It's being rumored Chief Jay Strongbow has passed
Jim Ross tweeted:
Sad to hear of the passing this morning of WWE HOF’er Chief Jay Strongbow, a beloved member of WWE family. RIP Chief.
He was originally known as the italian Joe Scarpa which is his real name but is perhaps best known as Chief Jay Strongbow

He was one of greatest wrestlers from the 1960s and 1970s. My father grew up watching him wrestle. At least he and Chief Wahoo McDaniel can pass the peace pipe in heaven.

Mentioned a lot in Brets book - he seemed like a genuinely good guy. Sad news, though he had a good innings.

that was a nice touch of WWE
although I had wished they would've acknowledged his work as Joltin Joe Scarpa
they have the Florida library
come on Seth, you're doing this on purpose now

LOL, you'd have thought Seth was son or best friend from high school between the pictures and the being pissed at not being acknowledged under every ring name he's ever used.
I mean WWE didn't even mention his WWWF feud with Spiros Arion in 1975....what the fucking fuck!

Fun fact - Guy on the right is General Adnan. He had one of my favorite kayfabe reasons for retiring from inring competition - Ken Patera broke his fucking neck with a Full Nelson
R.I.P. Chief Jay, some of my earliest wrestling memories are of reading about you in the Apter mags :(

Did he rassle in Japan?
In 1978, he did wrestle a tour for NJPW.

1978 was serious business in the sport of rasslin

Every year is serious business in the world of professional rasslin.

I don't know. I recall 1971 not being very serious business in the sport of professional rasslin

come on Seth, you're doing this on purpose now
He spent alot of years in the business before becoming an Indian
why sweep 20 years under the rug when they have the Florida tape library
you'd think WWE would acknowledge that fact
James Steele

Because in a 2-minute vignette, it is easiest to acknowledge what he is best known for THROUGHOUT THE WORLD and not just in a single territory 50 years ago.

Point being, if Stone Cold died they would do it about "Stone Cold" and not "Stunning" Steve. Both were successful and high profile gimmicks in different companies, but one was clearly more successful and well-known around the wrestling world.

Strongbow ripped into someone backstage for doing a convoluted move saying, "If it was a street fight you wouldn't do that."
Owen Hart was listening and said, "Yeah, if it was a street fight I'd hop around on one leg doing a war dance."
