Interesting thing about that Gene Chizik buyout. he will receive about $209,000 per month for the next 36 months. Not bad for a guy who had a losing record at Iowa State, came to Auburn and won a title riding Cam Newton's back.

The rapist whos victim killed herself is still on the ND football team by the way
So I just did some quick Googling, and all I found was a story about an anonymous member of the team who fondled this girl who left immediately after. That girl killed her self. Not saying that fondling is okay, but fondling doesn't equal rape. Am I missing something here? I have not seen any allegations of rape.
After the way the Duke Lacross situation was handled, I can understand a painstaking investigation before anything comes out. 2010 is a pretty long time though.

Peter King of SI said that Chip Kelly is one of the "hot names" in college who a NFL team might take a shot at as HC. Makes no sense. While the spread has worked its way slowly into the NFL, I just don't see the Oregon style spread option working as a base offense. Too much speed and too much money invested in QBs to get hammered 10-20 times a week. Air Raid might work and the Run & Shoot could make a comeback.

Well...my experience with Penn state folk has generally been that they were totally cool with...ya know....the child rape stuff. Or so it seems.
Like that they say the football program and the institution in general shouldn't have to feel the repercussions for what happened.
Not saying that's you or trying to shit on you but that's what I've heard so far, and I'm curious to hear what you say to something like that.
What are your thoughts?
The Condor

Not cool with it at all, and it's not only a black eye but essentially a scar that will never go away. I was not involved so much in athletics, and I wish it were possible to say that the entire scandal were simply a part of the athletic department. However, I spent my scholastic career there, earned my B.A. and have good memories and recieved a good education, and for that I am very proud of the institution. Unfortunately, no one will spend much time looking at that, but rather would dwell on the scandal. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that the school should be punished severely for the depth and severity of the scandal, but at the same time it does not define me or my alma mater.
Frank Drebin

Whew
Faith in society temporarily restored.
Can't tell you how feverishly alums argue with me about it. I still think that them playing football in any form sends the message that its all good in the long run, and that if this happened at, say, Tulane that they would have just torn down the entire stadium. But I'm just glad to hear your stance.
The Condor
12-08-2012, 10:18 PM
It's tough for a lot of the alums, they take it almost personally, which is understandable to an extent. However, after a short argument and they blow their stack they seem to calm down and accept how bad it really is and how lucky they are to actually have the team playing. They are in the same position as me, an innocent beneficiary of the acedemic and social experience of the university and had nothing to do with the rape scandal but seeing their school ripped to shreds is not a good feeling. Mostly I feel it is mostly frustration from being mocked and condescended to from a majority of Americans, at least I hope thats what it is and that they're not actually that dense and vile.

Boise State backs out of their verbal deal to join the Big East next year and is just staying in the MWC instead. They do however have to pay a partial exit fee but the MWC is helping to pay it and it can be lowered.
San Diego State also considering backing out now that Boise State won't commit which means the MWC could add another $25-$50 million in a new tv deal and the Big East possibly being gone by 2014.

James Steele
01-01-2013, 02:34 AM
Why does that fucking matter? Conference Re-alignment has happened for decades and is the logical evolution of the sport. The late 80s/90s were crazy with the SWC dissolving, the Big 12 forming, SEC expansion, Penn State to Big 10, Miami swapping from Indy to Big East to ACC, the increased numbers of FBS teams, the rise (MWC, CUSA )and fall of small conferences (WAC). Teams are going to position themselves to get the biggest slice of the pie they can get. Despite the financial divide, I think CFB has never had more parity.

Big day for Northwestern I hope. Want this bowl win so bad. Should've beaten Auburn in the Outback a while back but a New Years day win today against an SEC team would do NU wonders. Shame that they nearly made the Cap One Bowl and got fucked by the Big Ten.

They locked him up with a long term deal and are building a giant new athletic facility on the lake front. He wanted to play at Notre Dame but they never offered a scholarship so that's the only school I would be worried about if they ever came after him but he isn't Gary Barnett looking at every offer that comes his way. To respond directly to you:
Wisconsin is in the Rose Bowl automatically because they won the B1G championship game. No argument. There was a report that came out that said the Capitol One Bowl wanted NU vs. Texas A&M but both the B1G and SEC commissioners told them they should take the losers of their championship games and didn't want those teams playing in lower bowl games so NU fell to the Gator Bowl. Don't be surprised if NU gets the benefit of the doubt if this situation happens next near.
Something similar happened a few years ago when NU could have gone to the Outback bowl but got bumped to the Alamo Bowl. The next time they were in this position, they jumped over Wisconsin (even though Wisconsin had a better record and clearly would sell more tickets) and they got to play in the Outback rather than the Alamo.
The Condor

I see what you're saying but they were behind Michigan and Nebraska in the standings, not Wisconsin. If Nebraska dosent wet the bed in the championship game, NU probably in the Cap One bowl according to reports. Either way, after losing nine straight bowls, they needed a bowl win more than anything and a win vs. an SEC team (cats 2-0 vs SEC this year,BTW) on a New Years day bowl, capping a 10 win season has me thinking happy thought going into next season.

Figured it would go one of two ways: FSU would prove that NIU's resume was bogus and would embarrass them or FSU would do what they've tended to do in recent history and play down to inferior opponents, thus giving them a legit chance. Can’t fault MSU for being so young this year, but you can definitely blame their lack of intensity in the final minutes of close games for most if not all of their losses. My dumb ass cousin would like to think all the blame lies with the refs for calling penalties against MSU that shouldn’t have been called in his opinion, while failing to realize that closing games they had won was what really cost them.
A great ‘D’ rating means nothing if you don’t play it all game long. Now though it's just going to be a long offseason in East Lansing of what could've been (a BCS bowl or maybe outside shot at the national title if they'd gone undefeated) and what's going to happen with the loss of at least one Sr. (Conroy) and maybe others...got a feeling State could be in a rut for a while as they rebuild.

So stupid to have a couple of low tier bowl games, that should be played before Christmas, in between the BCS games. You have to expect that in college football I guess.
Ill throw a guess of 24-13 for 'Bama.

ND probably had a decent chance until last week once it was reported Saban was pissed off at Bama's practices sucking and then making sure they were extra prepared. Think they were partying or half-assing too much and he didn't want to be the 1st SEC coach to lose in a title game.

Nick Saban is going to be considered the greatest college football coach of all time when he retires. He has at least 5 more years before he even contemplates retirement. He already has 4 national titles at 2 schools, and has won 3 of the last 4 (and would have won in 2010 too if Auburn and $cam Newton didn't pull off that heist). Alabama is on a completely different level than everybody else right now, and he doesn't make the stupid coaching decisions Les Miles does. LSU could easily do what Alabama does, but Les Miles gets in his own way.

It is 3 schools in the SEC that have dominated. 3 out of 12/14. Auburn was a flash in the pan that will probably end up giving their trophy back before it is all said and done. Mississippi State or Tennessee has fuck all to do with LSU, Alabama, and Florida being dominant. TAMU went from doormat in the Big 12 to the hottest team in college football/SEC.

He'll get embarrassed when Ohio State walks into the BCS Title Game next year going undefeated in the Big 10 and then getting his shit kicked in by Nick Saban again. He will then start caring about his family and health again and "retire" only to return in March and coach at OSU another year. He will then go back to ESPN for a year before going to USC to replace Lane Kiffin. Rinse, repeat, and replace "USC/Lane Kiffin" with some other prestigious program and their embattled coach.

Best advantage he has over the rest of the SEC is how easily he keeps developing NFL-quality defenses each year. LSU gets lucky maybe once every 3-4 years while Florida was really great for just 2 years.
Also helps that he's really close to Belichick to the point every offseason they hang out together a few times. Usually BB gives Saban defense advice and Saban gives him advice on what players to go after from the SEC for a draft.

Keep in mind that I dislike both these teams.
I just wish this game were played while Notre Dame were hot instead of a January afterthought. Now, it's a fargone conclusion that the "National Championship" will be yet another SEC cocksucking extravaganza. Would have been some sort of game, and should ad another log in the fire of legitimizing a viable (as in, beyond the "4 team" thing they're going to) playoff system that EVERY other division AND pretty much every other sport has.
Much like JS, I dislike the fact that, supposedly, "TEH SEC RUELZ ALL!!!" simply from hype and recognition. Somehow, a 2 loss SEC team is still considered a national title contender and can back into the National Championship. Meanwhile, a team like a Boise State has crawled their way up from 1-AA to BCS contenders, and they get no respect because any team that could legitimize their schedule doesn't want to play them over fear of getting exposed and getting that late season loss that dashes the entire school's hopes. I actually would have tolerated a year of out-of-the-woodwork Notre Dame fans (it's not like they're gonna repeat the success of this season) over the "say it enough times and it becomes fact" about the SEC. They keep winning, which attracts the best players, who let them keep winning. If some up-and-coming team (yes, even Northwestern) played like a monster long enough AND actually got a fair shake in the rankings, even they can knock off an Alabama.
As for Meyer getting embarassed and leaving Columbus... it's a little bit of a different bear at the Horseshoe. He can foster .500 teams for the rest of his career and no one will give a fuck as long as he kicks ass over Michigan. An occasional national title is fine, but as long as he doesn't drop to John Cooper levels of losing to "that team up north", he'll be fine.
Immortal Moose

Well, no shit... That's why recruiting is crucial to the fact the the SEC has won the past 7 Seasons, solid recruiting based off of results.
Frank Drebin
01-08-2013, 12:31 AM
Solid recruiting in the SEC = over recruiting. The SEC allows teams to do this, the B1G does not.
Tom Guycott
01-08-2013, 12:33 AM
That's what I mean. It's cyclical. Thing is, even if someone else started getting those wins, and getting them even over 'Bama/Florida/LSU and start to suck up all the talent into their vaccum people would STILL make the argument that somehow SEC football is just better because it is so STFU!!! And the polls would be inclined (possibly financially, but that's just *wild speculation*) to agree.
James Steele
01-08-2013, 03:13 AM
The reality of college football for almost a decade now is that the SEC's best is better than everybody else's best. Now, the SEC also has its own "values" on certain things like recruiting, academics, etc. compared to old-school conferences like the Big 10. My issue is that people automatically assume a Tennessee, Mississippi State, or lower level schools is better than the top schools from the Big 12 or Pac 12. Oregon or OU would beat the shit out of Ole Miss or Vanderbilt. FFS, an average Texas team annihilated Ole Miss. However, the perception of this will not change until on the biggest stage the best of one of the other conferences can beat the best in the SEC consistently. PERIOD.
OU lost to UF 14-24, LSU 14-21 but people "remember them" as ass-whooping. People think Auburn beat the shit out of Oregon even though it was on a last second field goal. The divide isn't as big as people think, but until they start beating the SEC in the title game, that perception won't change.
James Steele
01-08-2013, 03:25 AM
The only time I felt like calling "bullshit" was when a 2-loss LSU got into the title game in against OSU. That was a crazy season though and there were like 5 two-loss teams. In the end, LSU and OSU were the only outright conference champions with 2 losses besides BYU that year. Hawaii had no business being in the BCS Championship game and proved it when they played Georgia.
James Steele
01-08-2013, 03:34 AM
For example, if Boise State has another run like they had in the past next year - I think they get in. The 4-team playoff will take care of a lot of those problems. I also think they will eventually expand to an 8-team playoff and stop it there. In the end, 8 teams is really all you need. The FCS, D2, and D3 playoff systems are clusterfucks and NCAA D1 needs to keep it much much simpler.
James Steele
01-08-2013, 04:02 AM
I'd like to see them do an 8-team playoff like this:
The 8 playoff teams are matched up based on normal seeding (1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc.) In some sort of contract, each conference selects a "home site" for if their conference team is the higher seed and plays host to another team. (Examples: Big XII - Cowboys Stadium, SEC - SuperDome, ACC - Sun Life Stadium, Big 10 - Lucas Oil Stadium, Pac 12 - Rose Bowl). The higher seed will be the "home team/host site" until the National Championship game which is bid out like the SuperBowl.
**Using the last BCS rankings for seeding
Round 1 (3 weeks before New Year's Day)
[1] Notre Dame vs [8] LSU {Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN}
[4] Oregon vs [5] Kansas State {Rose Bowl - Pasadena, CA}
[3] Florida vs [6] Stanford {SunLife Stadium, Miami, FL}
[2] Alabama vs [7] Georgia {SuperDome, New Orleans, LA}
National Championship Semi-Finals (2 weeks before New Years Day)
[8] LSU vs [4] Oregon {Rose Bowl - Pasadena, CA}
[2] Alabama vs [6] Stanford {Sugar Bowl - New Orleans, LA}
BCS National Championship Game (New Year's Day)
[2] Alabama vs [4] Oregon {SunLife Stadium - Miami, FL}
It gives you basically a week between the conference title games and the 1st round, a week between the 1st rd and 2nd rd, and 2 weeks to prep for the title game while giving a few days for kids to enjoy Christmas. You have all your who gives a shit bowls during the weeks without playoff games.

In terms of halves, the first half of ND-Bama did better than Auburn-Oregon but only because the 1st Q was really huge (started to drop in the 2nd Q) and then dropped off badly in the 2nd half.

I've always liked this type of idea, although I'm sure each BCS confrence would want a rep on an auto bid. Only problem is how do you get your fans to potentially travel to three different states in a three or four week period?
If your team kicks ass, they don't travel as much. It is called incentive. Besides, does the NFL, the rest of NCAA football divisions, or friggin High Schools worry about that? No. It somewhat provides home field advantage without actually giving home field advantage.

NFL - unless you are the Jaguars, you sell out most every home game, and you sure as hell sell out for the playoffs. No travel involved except for the Super Bowl
The idea of "hosting" a game closer to your school and/or fanbase is good. The problem is that wont always work. How was the attendance for the B1G championship in Indy this year? Shit. And those are supposed to be not one, but two teams from the area.
In your example above, can you imagine LSU fans going to Indy, Pasadena, then Miami? Thats alot to ask from a fan base. I'm not talking about "well they had a chance to "host" like everyone else," I'm saying that fewer tix get sold which no one wants to happen, especially the schools who are usually tasked with selling 10,000 tix themselves.

Brian Kelly is not an NFL coach. He's a salesman who can talk kids into coming to his school and playing hard. That won't work in the NFL.

Haha wut?
So why is Te'o himself saying she wasn't?
This reminds me of the Fresh Prince episode where Will lied about having an apartment and told Carlton about his secret and made him promise he wouldn't say anything.
But when Will decided to come clean to Uncle Phil, Carlton didn't pick up on it and kept going on with the lie.

Reagan Mauia is diving very deep into this.
“This was before her and Manti,” Mauia said Wednesday evening. “I don’t think Manti was even in the picture, but she and I became good friends. We would talk off and on, just checking up on each other kind of thing. I am close to her family. When she was going through the loss of her father, I was — I offered a comforting shoulder and just someone to bounce her emotions off. That was just from meeting her in Samoa.”
Mauia said Tuiasosopo — whom Mauia believes is Kekua’s cousin — introduced the two. After the initial meeting, Mauia said he met her at an “after-party” for all of the athletes involved in the camp.
“She was tall,” he said. “Volleyball-type of physique. She was athletic, tall, beautiful. Long hair. Polynesian. She looked like a model … ”
He said it is his understanding that Kekua’s mother is operating her Twitter account. He said he’d never met her mother. When told by a reporter that she apparently might not have existed, Mauia said “No, she is real.”

"Nah, man. She's real, yo".

This is all some bullshit Manti T'eo came up with to help with his Heisman push. I wouldn't be all that surprised if Notre Dame knew long before they said they did and didn't do anything about it just to help them get publicity.

Believe more in the idea of he was actually hoaxed to a large degree and ND didn't want to release them being hoaxed because they didn't want the ridicule and distractions going into the title game.
Think Teo probably knew privately once ND told him or around the same time and either they told him to hush up till after the title game or he didn't want that ridicule either.
The hoax seems pretty complex for him to have done it by himself or last that long before it was exposed or fell apart.

Swarbrick said Te’o, believing the woman he loved was dead, received a phone call on Dec. 6 from the woman he knew as his girlfriend. She told him she had a story to explain the situation. Swarbrick said there were subsequent calls to restart the relationship. This, of course, was when Te’o knew something was amiss and went to his parents and coaches to explain the ordeal.

Against elite competition (Alabama), he might as well have not even been there. Hell, he only made a handful of plays against Oklahoma. The INT against OU was dumb luck and the sack was on 3rd & Pacific Ocean Depth.

Where. TheFuck. Do. You. Get. This. From?????
You have never EVER heard me allude to the Falcons winning a playoff game much less a SuperBowl! And to be compared to Droford(a Ravens fan therefore my football rooting mortal enemy) is almost the last straw here buddy.
There are very few things that I've said in the Sports Forum that have been far fetched. Sure, the MMA Forum is a different story. Nearly all of my arguments here have been factually based, even if they are not warmly received.
And the fact in this matter is that Teo wasn't the only Golden Domer who didn't show up. His Defensive line betrayed him in the biggest moment. As much as we would like to make the Championship game about the poor performance of ND, let's use it to (SWALLOWING A LOT OF PRIDE RIGHT NOW) truly admire the dynasty that Nick Saban has built. The offensive lineplay in that game was near perfect for 'Bama. The running backs had four lane highways to run in. There was no quarterback pressure all night and the skill position players were simply amazing. Teo Looked great against Stanford ( I dare you to not say that they're a solid program with a lot of pro prospects) and he was great against USC. Teo will be a good Middle Linebacker in the NFL you just wait and see.

Dude Involved in Hoax Developed Romantic Feelings for TE'O
In an interview with Dr. Phil McGraw that will air Thursday, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo says the voice of Manti Te'o girlfriend Lennay Kekua was his and that the star Notre Dame linebacker had no role in the hoax.
The first of a McGraw's two-part interview with Tuiasosopo will air Thursday on the "Dr Phil Show." McGraw appeared Wednesday morning on NBC's "Today" show, which aired two clips of the Tuiasosopo interview.
"There were many times when Manti and Lennay have broken up," Tuiasosopo said, "but something would bring them back together, whether it was something going on in his life or Lennay's life or in this case my life."
McGraw said Tuiasosopo told him he fell deeply in love with Te'o and that for Tuiasosopo it was a romantic relationship.
"Here we have a young man that fell deeply, romantically in love," McGraw told NBC. "I asked him straight up, 'Was this a romantic relationship with you?' And he says yes. I said, 'Are you then therefore gay?' And he said, 'When you put it that way, yes.' And then he caught himself and said, 'I am confused.' "
McGraw told NBC that Te'o "absolutely, unequivocally" wasn't involved in the hoax.
Tuiasosopo told McGraw that as Te'o became more famous he knew that the online hoax he started more than 2 years ago was going to blow up.
Tuiasosopo said: "I wanted to end it because after everything I had gone through I finally realized that I just had to move on with my life and had to get ... you know my real me Ronaiah ... I just had to start living and let this go."

I still think Te'o was in on it. They used all this to get him Heisman hype, and now they are covering it up to keep it from fucking up his draft status. These guys were friends. Did the guy have one of those voice changer things or something? It seems really weird that this guy could make himself sound like a dying girl in a hospital who was slightly horny for 12 hour phone calls every night.
