Well, historically I haven't been a massive college football fan but I'm going for it this year. I know I'm going to at least one Cal game this year with my brothers boss, as he's alumni and a big Cal fan. Let the fun begin.

Several predictions from ESPN favoring no SEC teams in the title game although Oklahoma seems to be the only one that was agreed by the experts to be in it assuming no shock upsets.

Megadouche Herbstreit says the National Title game will be USC vs Florida State. As a Sooner fan, I would love for OU to make it to the title game (and win this time).

Anyone have a stream?

I know this is usually reserved for PPV's and such, but I need my Buckeye fix, and don't have Big Ten Network. Also, pretty much the places I have appear to be British in nature, so there's the whole thing about "football" actually being soccer, and them not giving a flying fornication about U.S. collegic gridiron competition. :'(

Must suck for Boise State fans to realize that their season is already over one game into the season.

And yeah, that's terrible. All those years of getting no respect for running the table when a team in the SEC is automatically considered "better" with two late season losses. Boise loses close and in heartbreaking fashion in the season opener and they'll be tossed into the sub-basement of the top 25 just from name alone and unable to climb out unless EVERYONE else above them loses big.

One more stone to build the wall of an actual top 25 playoff system. 4 teams is a great start, but still isn't a big enough bracket to take the argument away for someone who gets shafted with "strength of schedule" leapfrogs.

Besides the ranked vs ranked matchups, never bother to watch that much college football during the 1st week or so since majority of the time its just blowouts for ranked teams.

Michigan vs Bama should be a great one unless Bama's D just flat out dominates the 1st Q. Denard Robinson easily becomes the front runner for the Hesiman if he plays well and Michiagn wins or keeps it very close.

Yeah, I ended up watching more of that game than Bama/Shoelace..

The announcers pissed me off though acting like it's the fall of the mighty SEC because a ranked team who won the ACC last year beat an unranked team who haven't won shit (8-5) since Cam Newton left.. Andf it was a close game that came down to the final possession..

p.s. Floyd Mayweather wipes his ass with $3 mill..

I'm sick and tired of the SEC circle jerk. It isn't the conference that wins all those titles, it is those top tier teams that dominate that won those titles. It is a deep conference, but so is the Big XII. I hate the SEC chants and shit because it enables every fan of one of the shitty/subpar/underachieving SEC schools to act like they are hot shit.

Franklin is going to make Vandy more relevant than they perhaps have ever been if he stays long enough, but I don't think Franklin will be in Nashville very long. The top of the SEC is no doubt the best football teams in the country, but the quality of depth in the SEC isn't want people say it is. Just like every other major conference, the SEC has 2-3 elite teams always in the mix for the National Championship, 3-4 good teams that can upset a big dog at any time and then 3-4 shit teams.

I've notice ESPN and others are bashing Oklahoma State for their 84-0 beat down against Savannah State calling it an ultimate cupcake and money-grab game but they barely say the same when other big name schools or conferences do the same.

ESPN even had an article that basically teased nothing should count towards the Heisman race from that game even though a few of the other supposed Heisman candidates had great Week 1 stats from "cupcake"-level opponents.

James Steele
09-05-2012, 03:16 PM
The difference is Savannah State sucks at the FCS level. At least when you play an App State, Georgia Southern, etc - they are good football teams at the FCS level. Savannah State is fucking stupid for doing this. Their AD should be fired because getting beat 84-0 will do more harm that that money will do good. It will be a few years before recruits forget this game.

USC got upset last night so according to the new poll, its back to Bama and LSU as the #1 and #2 seeds with Georgia (#5) as the backup SEC team in case the BCS and polls set up another SEC vs SEC title game.

Oregon (#3) and Florida State (#4) are the closest non-SEC teams ranked.

Oklahoma dropped 1 spot to #6 on their bye this week. OU will work their way back up there as they play Kansas State this week. They play Texas in 3 weeks, and they should be highly ranked. 2 weeks after that they get Notre Dame. 2 weeks after that they have WVU, Oklahoma St, and TCU to close out the season. If OU goes undefeated with that schedule, I can't see them getting left out of the BCS title game unless Oregon goes undefeated.

Emperor Smeat
09-16-2012, 06:16 PM
I could see Stanford getting ahead of OU should they beat Oregon near the end of the season and stay undefeated considering Stanford's resume would have wins over a #2 seed at the time and whatever seed Oregon is when they play.

redoneja
09-16-2012, 08:57 PM
If Florida State can keep winning by large margins they probably have a better shot leapfrogging a #2 ranked SEC team. Provided they get by Clemson and don't get rattled by playing in one of the most underrated tough places to play (Blacksburg) against one of the most consistently overrated teams (VA Tech), they should end undefeated with the ACC Title.

But JS is right. If OU goes undefeated, they should be a shoe in for the BCS title game. And I would much rather see Oregon somehow play West Virginia in a BCS bowl than see them play another SEC team in the Championship game.

redoneja
09-16-2012, 09:02 PM
I like Stanford as PAC-12 champion, especially if their defense is as disruptive against Oregon as it was USC. But I don't know if they'll be good enough to make it to number 2. Probably a Rose Bowl berth.

James Steele
09-17-2012, 11:04 AM
Even as an OU fan, I will be the first to admit that the BCS has given OU plenty of love but this is the potential year where I worry that not having a Big XII Championship game might hurt us. The Pac 12 and Big 10 will both get a boost from the game as they will play a ranked team in the title game. I'm wondering if Nick Saban can keep Alabama focused with all the knob-slobbering that will be going on until/if they lose. They were pretty damn hot in 2010 and beat Penn State in Week 3 and then hammered Florida (who was #7 at the time) before falling to South Carolina. They then lost to LSU and Auburn (who came back from a crazy deficit at half). If OU does go to the BCS Title Game, I want them to beat an SEC team so they can get every monkey off their back (can't win the big game, SEC dominance, etc.)

Supreme Olajuwon
09-17-2012, 11:31 AM
I don't think you have to worry about a Big 10 team stealing OU's spot this year.

James Steele
09-17-2012, 02:18 PM
I don't think you have to worry about a Big 10 team stealing OU's spot this year.

I dunno. If Michigan can beat Notre Dame this week, then I think they will roll through the Big 10 with the only real challenged being Ohio State and maybe Northwestern. What better storyline could there be than "The Resurrection of Michigan Football" especially coming back from the thrashing Alabama gave them in Week 1?

I still think Florida State and Notre Dame are overhyped and will drop a couple games each. The SEC East will probably end up being a clusterfuck. The SEC West (and more than likely the SEC Championship) looks like it will be decided in Baton Rouge on November 3rd. I don't think a repeat of last year's LSU/Bama II match-up is even a possibility this year because of the ensuing shitstorm. LSU hasn't played anybody yet and won't play anybody until they start their muderer's row in October thru November when they have @Florida, vs S Car, @ Texas A&M, vs Alabama, and vs Mississippi State. They end with Arkansas, who looks like dogshit, but that game is always a toss up.

Stanford/Oregon will be the marquee game in the Pac 12, but there are always a couple of random upsets in the Pac 12 every year that fuck the whole thing up BCS wise. Oregon hasn't played anybody and it's hard to tell if they are just better than everybody or just really damn good.

Big 12 wise, it looks like it will come down to Kansas State, West Virginia, Texas, and OU. I think KSU is too one-dimensional and Texas hasn't looked like they are still a year away from being back to being "TEXAS". OU likes to look like shit against average teams and Texas isn't going to get beat like a rented mule this year again. West Virginia looks legit and they can fucking score some points. OU goes to WVU so WVU will have a slight edge going into that game. TCU could sneak into the mix of things, but their last 4 games of the season are @WVU, vs KSU, @ Texas, and vs OU. Hell of a stretch for a team to go through unscathed. OU also plays Notre Dame in Norman on Oct. 27 (tickets are projected to be insanely expensive once it gets closer) and that will be an electric game that both teams will be up for and Notre Dame will be looking to get its biggest win in ages that night. If the Sooners can't establish a running game and play better run defense, the National Title hopes might die against Kansas State on Saturday.

Kind of boring this year because there no non-BCS schools that have a shot this year. A lot of big time football games though with all sorts of names teasing potential runs at Conference Championships and BCS Bowls.

Agree with both. I'm hoping my Gators smash FSU but I don't know if our offense is enough to keep up with them. FSU also has to play at VTech, which is a tough place to play, regardless of Tech's ranking .

I can't believe they played like utter dogshit. They need to go ahead and make Blake Bell the full-time starter and move on. Landry has proven time and time again that he is the Tony Romo of college football.

As weird as it is for me to type, I believe WVU is now favorite to win the Big 12. I don't it's K State's time yet, and OU has issues, which you just detailed. Haven't seen Texas at all this year though, so I don't have anything to form a credible opinion on them.

James Steele
09-24-2012, 10:55 AM
West Virginia is absolutely the favorite. K-State is too one dimensional to win the Big XII because not every opponent will turn the ball over and refuse to run the football like OU. Texas' defense is good, but I think it is overrated and UT hasn't been tested yet.

Wow what a horrible final play call by Stanford. The fade to the sidelines barely worked all game to that side and they still went with it on 4th down.

Washington just took out #8 seed Stanford.

Also occurred on the same field which had the "Inaccurate Reception" from Monday Night Football.

Kinda don’t know whether or not to be worried about OSU or not. They had no team whatsoever last year and we only ended up beating them (in Columbus, no less) by a score of 10-7.

This year, they seem at first glance to have a slightly stronger team, and they’re in our house where they’ve beaten us more times in recent years than I’d care to admit. I really hope they pull this off though, because if they don’t the Big 10 Championship may already become out of reach after just one week of in-conference play.

Ugh Michigan State is bad

Not really, just very young and green as a team. Can’t grow great teams overnight, ya know.

Also, Michigan HS football update: Lansing Everett moved to 7-0 after a nail-biter at home last Friday in which they went to OT tied 14-14. The comets got a TD to make it 21-14...BUT...the Vikings answered right back with a TD on their own to make it 21-20. Coach Marcelle Carruthers calls a T.O. before the P.A.T., and the guys tell him they want to go for 2 and run the ball. He agrees, the play is off, and Everett runs it in for 2 to win 22-21 in thrilling fashion!

So, they’re pretty much set to sweep the season and go undefeated (9-0) into the MHSAA state playoffs in November as they only have Lansing Sexton (3-4) [who, ironically play within about ¼ mile from me on the West side of Lansing, I used to live on the South side and attended Everett for 2 years, before somehow ending up attending Waverly H.S. for 2 years, even though that’s like 3 miles down the road...anywho...] and Jackson (0-7).

Yeah this year they;ve been really lucky with the comebacks even though the defense might be their best of the last several years.

BCS already teased Notre Dame can get to the title game with a loss or even two but it had to be either as just Pitt, just USC, or possibly Pitt and USC depending on how other games played out. Anything else would wreck their computer scores which have had them in the top 2 for the whole season (tied for #1 now with K State).

James Steele

LSU has only managed to get a FG despite having a shitload more plays. Les Miles and Co. play "pucker-butt" football and don't have the balls to play big time offensive football in games against Alabama. Les Miles is afraid of Nick Saban and the Alabama defense to the point that they refuse to take calculated risks and trust their players to make plays on offense. Meanwhile, Alabama trusts AJ McCarron and their WRs to make big plays between smashmouth runs. LSU's defense is big and athletic but undisciplined and either over pursue or go for ESPN hits instead of just wrapping the son of a bitch up and tackling him. Alabama is the perfect storm of stifling defense and a balanced offense that let's their nuts drop when they need to. Alabama's offense is too good to play "pucker butt" football and hope you can win with field goals. Les Miles is the biggest fluke since Larry Coker.

I think Alabama will come back and win, but I dunno about the spread. If LSU wins, I wonder if they'd jump Oregon or KSU. I can see the powers that be creaming themselves at LSU/Notre Dame. A rematch from ND's last BCS bowl where they got embarrassed.

If Alabama loses, I think k state moves to #1 and they slide to #2 and lsu closes the gap bewtween them and nd/Oregon. Puts too much stock in at least one of k-state, nd and Oregon going unbeaten and I think 1 loss lsu could possibly leapfrog unbeaten nd since they don't have a conf champ game.

May all be moot here since alabama has the ball though.

He is also a better coach than 90% of active coaches..

No. He is a better recruiter. Not a better coach. Also, it isn't like it is hard to recruit at LSU since Nick Saban rebuilt the program. Remember, his National Title team was a 2-loss team in a clusterfuck year. You can't tell me he didn't have comparable talent to Florida and Alabama during their runs, but he struggled to beat them because they out-coached his ass. He got upset by Arkansas many times because he got out-coached. LSU is like Texas. Who gives a fuck how many championships we win, let's just win all the ones we should, win a "big game" or two, and we'll be fine.

James Steele

Les Miles as won the division 3 times, won the SEC twice, and has one National Championship. Sounds a lot like Mack Brown. He has struggled when coaching "rebuilding year" teams who aren't just flat-out better than everybody they play. That is the mark of a great coach.

Maryland were going to struggle anyways considering all the new schools the ACC was bringing to both sports.

Only reason they'd be leaving is because the upcoming Big Ten tv contract would provide them more money than the ACC one. They've been dropping sports because of budget reasons but probably don't even have enough to keep the basketball and football programs healthy.

I can't think of a single situation in which I would root for the Texas Longhorns to win shit. There are Big 12 teams that I don't hate and wouldn't mind them being successful, but SEC fellatio that has gone on for the past 5-6 years is getting ridiculous. Yes, the SEC is the best conference but it isn't like every other conference is dog shit. I wish I had a favorite college football team and conference :'(
Same here. I just go with VT since I went there. Really could care less if they win or not most of the time though.

I never have gotten into college football the way I have the pros. As much as I love the Broncos I am just indifferent to most college teams. I mean I keep up with who wins and whos on top, but I never really have cared for any one specific team.

Same here, although I haven't gone to a school with a football team so I don't have anything there.

I frequent a local sports board, and many alleged alums of these D1 institutions have real disdain for "t-shirt fans" (aka fans who didn't go to that college but are fans because they buy a t-shirt and ticket). I don't understand this mentality at all. Of course, I'm an OU fan and went to a small regional university so I am biased. College football would barely be bigger than MLS if the only fans were ones who went to those colleges.

It depends. I'll root for most Big Ten schools to do well because it helps the conference's national profile. Michigan can fuck off though.

Hope you root extra hard for MSU today. They need it (unless you’re a dirty Golden Gophers lover, in which case may God have mercy on your soul). Can’t stand the prospect of Mark Dantonio suffering his first MSU losing season, or MSU it’s first since ’06. :(

Florida wins. So the National Title Game hunt is officially down to 4 teams: Alabama/Georgia vs. Notre Dame/Florida

As much as I don't want to see an all-SEC Title game again, I'm pretty certain Notre Dame will get crushed by Bama or Georgia. Florida would make for a better game.

Could even be Georgia vs Bama II depending on if the SEC title game ends up being really good since the BCS showed last year winning a conference title no longer a requirement for the BCS title game.

Even ESPN favors another all-SEC game with all the talk of how nice it would be if ND becomes the next victim for an upset without saying the same for the SEC teams in the Top 5.

Oklahoma went to the BCS Title game after losing to K-State in the Big 12 Championship game.

Was it in 2000 since Wikipedia says OU won that game 27-24?

Bama last year was the first time the BCS title game didn't have both teams as a champion of their conference (regular season or title game). Also a big reason why people were upset was due to the same reasoning used against Michigan in 2006 was ignored to ensure Bama was picked.

T Shirt fans and the hatred towards them is fucking stupid. College sports is huge because towns, regions, and states get behind the teams of the schools.

Well, Florida has the bandwagoners from the Meyer/Tebow era...

Georgia is an enigma. But i think that the nation will be able to gain interest in the Dawgs if they learn a little more about Gurley and Marshall/The Georgia Defense.

Most NFL cities will appreciate Georgia since most rosters have a UGA alum on it.

Honestly the only reason I hate the SEC is because of the fans. They take such excessive pride in their own conference, to the point where they'd happily root for their bitter rival in the national title game just to prove the overall dominance of the conference.

It'd be like me rooting for the Eagles, Cowboys, or Redskins if the Giants got knocked out. Makes zero sense.

Out of respect for you Vito, I won't lie. I am guilty of this.

I hate Notre Dame, but I hate Rick Reilly more and after he dumped on them, I was hoping they had a run like this just so he'd look like a jackass.

I think they'd match up well with Georgia and make the game interesting, but Alabama might run them out of the building in a national championship game.

Man do you like it when half of your team is suspended for August/September because of various criminal activity? IF you do, then then Richt is for you. I love UGA, and I'm constantly amazed at how he manages to avoid the hot seat by winning the SEC East.

Wow, a bunch of HC jobs already open in CFB: Auburn, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Purdue, Colorado, UTEP, Purdue, Boston College, NC State, Cal, Idaho, Western Michigan, and no doubt more will come next few weeks. Auburn gonna spend over $11 million to buy out the contracts of all the coaches. Cutthroat business.
