Could this be the beginning of a build to Lesnar-Ryback at WrestleMania?

I honestly was not expecting that at all. Maybe this is Ryback getting thrown into the main event scene.

WWE will probably hotshot the Ryback vs. CM Punk match for ratings when he wins the WWE Title, a la Goldberg vs. Hogan!

I mentioned how awesome it would have been if Ryback came out at the end of SummerSlam and spent months trying to convince Lesnar to come back and face him at WrestleMania. Obviously didn't get my hopes up because there was no chance of that happening.
All of a sudden it seems possible and now I DESPERATELY want Ryback vs Lesnar at Mania.
Cool King
09-24-2012, 11:15 PM
Maybe Ryback is a backup incase Cena isn't healed by Hell in a Cell, so they're getting him into the main event scene now?
It just seems weird to have him enter the IC Title scene and a possible fued with The Miz last week and then this week he beats him clean and is now randomly staring down CM Punk.
KyleEmmott
09-24-2012, 11:16 PM
I think it'll be Ryback vs Punk at HIAC, I always thought Cena wouldn't be healthy in time.
Tom Guycott
09-24-2012, 11:18 PM
I seriously hope not. He hasn't had ONE meaningful feud since recovering from injury and appearing as Ryback. People around here have bitched and moaned about Bryan getting into the main event scene so quickly, but because Skippy is a musclebound freak, it's A-Ok to do the same with him. Even worse, because all he's done is been fed jobbers... Jinder Mahal and Jack Swagger included. Now he gets "a" win over Miz and gets to stare down Punk?
C'mon, son. Too rapid of progression. People will grow bored of the one dimensional Goldbergian monster if he has nowhere else to climb.
Hope this is kind of a one-off, and that something else progresses from it.
Tom Guycott
09-24-2012, 11:21 PM
... and honestly, I thought it was Foley, up and pissed and armed. And that it was going to be Punk/Foley at Hell In A Cell, giving Punk that legendary Foley rub and taking place of the Punk/Lawler angle.

Punk looking at the fat ginger kid in disgust.
In truth, is there any other way?
Ugh.
This was the best RAW in weeks until the end.
Just ugh.
They have HIAC, SuSe, TLC, RR and EC before WM. They have to think long-term. You don't put the Goldberg rip-off in a feud with Punk unless he wins. If he doesn't it kills his push. If he does win it means he has to defeat Rock at the RR and go on to WM and face either Cena or Undertaker.
Ugh. I need Ibuprofen. So, so stupid.
What horrible booking.
Is it that hard to figure out how to book towards Punk/Rock, Cena/Taker and HHH/Lesnar?
Jesus.

FFS, it just started. They can easily have Ryback lose without killing his push. If anything, they need to have Ryback lose so they can get past the undefeated gimmick and actually start developing him into something more. You mean to tell me if Ryback looks like a fucking beast in Hell in a Cell in his first real marquee match against the WWE Champion and loses either by being heelishly outsmarted or some crazy finish that it would ruin him?

They aren't subtle with their booking.
I hope, personally, he loses and goes the way of Tensai's push.
Big wrestlers who have "OMG POWER MOVES AND CAN'T BE BEAT" are boring because they focus on that rather than developing a personality for the individuals. I didn't care for Goldberg for the same reason.
Maybe...just maybe...WWE is going to do something unpredictable and different?
Buyrates for the biggest show of the year? No. That will be planned out and while I prefer Rock/Punk, Cena/Taker and Lesnar/HHH I'm guessing we'll get saddled with Cena/Rock II and Taker/Lesnar.
So is AJ getting fired for the slap or are they ignoring that Vickie situation?
Heyman isn't a current WWE employee. He's just an associate of Punk.

It's never too soon for a diva to get a title shot. lol. The division is a joke.
Ryback is dominant. He doesn't have to win the world title yet. There's nothing wrong with him suddenly being in the picture. It's a breath of fresh air. A new face that actually has some credibility and isn't just in it to get jobbed out to the "real" main eventers.

They didn't force their own hand into a Punk vs Ryback match. It simply planted the seed for Ryback in the main event. It could just as easily be a way of getting to Ryback vs Lesnar via Punk's Heyman link which would be a MUCH better option than Lesnar-HHH 2 at WrestleMania.
I'm usually the first one to talk about how shitty the booking it but this was an incredible way to end Raw. It introduces a new face into what was becoming, despite the PPV matches, a pretty bland 2 man main event scene. Not just a random new face but a face that is the most promising new face to be introduced to the main event scene in a long time. There's a ton of questions to answer and a ton of intrigue and to just jump to "UGH, HERE COMES PUNK VS RYBACK NOW. SO STUPID." is ridiculous.

Ryback definitely should not be losing though. Maybe Lesnar interfering and destroying him... leading to a few false finishes as he just won't stay down.
Even then though, the best option is to keep him looking unbeatable. He's fragile right now. They need to book him to where any loss he suffers is absolutely earth shattering and there's a really good reason for it.
Moot point though because I highly doubt that's where they're headed with this.

Rhodes needs a character. The "disfigured" Cody Rhodes thing actually added some depth to him. Now he's kinda back to being CAWdy Rhodes and teaming him up with a guy who actually does have a great character isn't exactly gonna help.

The Bourne Supremacy
Altitude Era
The Legion of Boom

I remember being at a Raw in the mid 90s when they just had the big RAW letters and a tiny little screen in front of it and while the Undertaker was wrestling, Diesel was backstage destroying his casket. But we couldn't see that screen so we had no idea. Then when I was watching Superstars or Livewire or whatever it was they recapped Raw and I was like HOLY SHIT HOW DID I MISS THIS THIS IS HUGE

Apparently WWE doesn't even think the end segment was that big of a deal because there's barely a mention of it on the website. No headline, no photo. There's a just a little blurb at the end of the Raw results.

Ryback is a fucking machine! He's a huge fucking beast, and he's gone from squashing jobbers to basically standing up to the WWE CHAMPION CM PUNK in a staredown that oozed of "FUCKING BRING THIS SHIT ON NOW!"
