Something about the idea of Ryback standing tall as WWE Champion and CM Punk slowly walking out from the back (mysteriously absent during the lumberjack portion of the show) and staring down Ryback to close Payback actually appeals to me.

If he won the first two why would they need a third ?

A loss to Cena would just leave me wondering where they put him next. Against Sheamus or Orton? He could win those respective matches, but it still wouldn't really put him towards any sort of goal. The more I think about it the more I think it would be beneficial to all (even Cena) to put Ryback over at Payback.
Mr. Nerfect
06-03-2013, 11:06 PM
If he won the first two why would they need a third ?
They don't, but John Cena implied last week that after he beats Ryback in the first two there is still going to be a use for that ambulance because he'll be throwing Ryback into the back of it. It wasn't an official confirmation, but the WWE could announce that regardless of the outcome, the Ambulance Match stage will happen, even if the WWE Champion has already been decided.
I have a feeling that having Three Stages of Hell is simply there so that Ryback can get a fall against Cena without winning the WWE Championship. Damage control?

They should give Curtis Axel a "The Countout Kid" gimmick. Where he insists that he can only win matches via countout.
Mr. Nerfect
06-04-2013, 02:05 AM
I still think that Axel, who grew up in the business with Stephanie McMahon, should come out and reveal that he had a thing going with her in their younger years, back before she married Triple H. Steph's only three years older than Axel.
It could be a nice little way for Axel to actually get some heat onto himself.
Mr. Nerfect
06-04-2013, 02:07 AM
Actually, could you imagine how hilarious it would be if Axel took old photos of himself and clearly Photoshopped them into situations from the past? He can be laughing as Stephanie is covered in cake, as I'm sure they've done to her, and they can have a still of Triple H with the drugged Stephanie, but put Axel's face over it and have him imply he did it all before Hunter.
Mr. Nerfect
06-04-2013, 02:08 AM
And then he challenges Triple H to A COUNTOUT MATCH!
A countout match sounds like it could actually be an interesting gimmick match. Sorta a variant of a last man standing match.

Was in here that we were discussing Sheamus? I was reading an article recently that suggested that the one thing he really lacks in his career are "moments." Those things that make you truly remember a talent. He's solid, he's over, he wins titles and does a good job -- but a lot of his "moments" came as he was a heel early on in his career.
Mr. Nerfect
06-04-2013, 11:11 AM
A random thought on Curtis Axel:
If he actually makes it as a credible heel in the main event scene, when Tyson Kidd returns, would Axel vs. Kidd be able to help elevate Kidd to a higher level than anyone thought he could reach?

Daniel Bryan was the star of the show. As much as Gertner is going to cry into his pillow, Bryan showed that he has the BIG personality and the intangibles that could concievabley make him a draw. Which actually 100% shocks the shit out of me. As wonderful as an in ring talent he had always been, I didn't think he had what it took to survive the shark tank. You watch that match with Ryback and with the Shield, the audience bough EVERYTHING, and if Ryback tapped, that building would have fucking exploded. It would have been a throwback moment. Problem is, I feel like they're going to do what they always do, and strike AFTER the iron is hot, and he won't get the one defining win, where the audience goes absolutely buckshit like it would have last night. Oh well, was a tremendous performance lastnight, in two matches.

Absurd. Everyone knows that Vince McMahon doesn't care about money and intentionally does stupid, bad-for-business things so that he can think of the misery it causes people and touch himself.
Except for when Vince McMahon only cares about money and will do anything he can think of to get more of it.
I imagine I will go to my grave being completely unable to understand how the smarkiest smarks who ever smarked simultaneously believe both of these things.
Mr. Nerfect
06-04-2013, 07:36 PM
Jim Ross and Chris Jericho have both taken to Twitter and called Daniel Bryan the best performer the WWE has right now. This might seem absurd, given he just won the title, but would Dean Ambrose vs. Daniel Bryan, with Bryan possibly winning the US Title, be a good move to go forward with since both Ambrose and Bryan are reaching "white-hot" areas? A match between the two at Payback would absolutely tear the place down. Imagine if they beat the crap out of each other for thirty minutes or something and then the ring bell went off because "Ladies and gentleman, our timekeeper has informed us that the time limit for this contest has expired...therefore, STILL the United States Champion...DEAN AMBROSE!" Ambrose looks angry at first, but then scurries off with his US Title as Bryan kicks things around the ring and isn't satisfied with having merely an amazing performance, because by not capturing the US Title he feels like a "weak link."

In defence of the WWE, they have seemingly noticed that since dropping the Tag Team Titles, Bryan's new-found intensity has truly made him white-hot. That's probably why he was given the chance to partake in not one, but two matches that reached the fifteen-minute mark. He also technically got to defeat the #1 Contender for the WWE Title. I'm not sure what the WWE has planned, exactly, but it seems like plans have changed to accommodate Bryan's tear.
James Steele

Say what you want about Vince, but he clearly has a soft spot for truly great technical wrestlers. They always get a push if they show some iota of charisma and stay on the roster for years. Hosses may get pushed faster (and harder), but he will fire them much more quickly than a solid worker.
Ol Dirty Dastard
06-05-2013, 07:54 PM
Well he knows how much more versatile a great worker is. But I mean I think Daniel Bryan is better than a Chris Benoit for instance. Bryan can do it all. Where he lacks obviously is size, but there is no way he can put on size with the WWE schedule the way it is. And I do think that plays a factor, as much as it pains me to say. BUT he did make that match with Ryback believable. But it IS hard.

06-06-2013, 08:13 AM
Anyway, Daniel Bryan is amazing. We've seen it since he debuted in WWE. He can get a crowd into a match and fired up just from wrestling. He did it before he even had name recognition as a legit "star". People still watch wrestling for the in-ring product. People pay $70 for WrestleMania for the matches. Promos and things are there to build to the match and get people excited to see the match. Some guys don't need to be able to cut insane promos on every show to accomplish that because people know they will deliver every time.
Punk/Jericho at Payback is a good example. It doesn't need a shitload of promos, segments, video packages, etc. People know it will be awesome and they just need to do enough promos to give the match a reason to happen. I promise you that if WWE produced a show that was nothing but promos and video packages - it would fail. Look at that show TNA had that was just backstage promos. It doesn't work. What do people complain about the most on WWE shows? Too many promos, recaps, segments, etc.
Mr. Nerfect

my opinion of Benoit hasn't really ever changed, killyowifekillyokid or not. Outstanding wrestler bell to bell if his style is your thing, black hole of personality otherwise. Bryan is better in every way except for his look, which is where Benoit "exceeded". For a small guy, he was fucking huge.

He's much more comparable to Angle than Benoit if you ask me.
And I haven't even seen the last few weeks where everyone's been raving about him even more than ever. Benoit was just so utterly dull.

I've made the Angle/Bryan comparison before. Since Bryan's super-sly heel turn as World Champion last year (which was brilliant, by the way), Bryan has shown a goofier side outside the ring, which I think works in the way that Kurt was goofy but still someone you just didn't fuck with.

I said exactly the same thing while he was alive. He had excellent technical skills for sure, but not as good as Bryan's, and Bryan is far more entertaining in all ways.
