Loved the fact the U.S. NHL home team lost that game. Tough shit for NBC having to air a Canadian NHL team win on their air.
And Gleason going to Toronto? Just a quick fix for the Leafs. Won't do much long term for a team who only made the playoffs last year, because it was a half-season...the Leafs don't have what is needed to make the playoffs in an 82-game campaign anymore, and won't until they fix other, larger shit that's wrong with their club.
That's such a crock. The Leafs made the playoffs because they had amazing special teams and fantastic goaltending.

Yeah, and guess what, Gertner? They were physically drained and mentally exhausted...they only got one fucking round out of it, instead of the full 4 rounds, as I would have wanted. The fuckface Booins had that series won before it even started, and called their shot.
The Booins played possum all series, deliberately held back for most of Game 7, then raped the Leafs up the ass late, shooting them in the head in OT. The Booins had the Leafs puzzle solved already, and MLSE got fucked out of millions of dollars, with CBC losing a HUGE amount of money on ad revenue, that they couldn't get back.
The Leafs are a short-sighted club, that played their hand far too open. And paid the ultimate price for it.

Lol that might be the most ridiculous thing I've read. So the Bruins purposely in the NHL playoffs let the series go to 7 games? Actually, the Leafs solved the Bruins quite well and made them change their passing lanes, as well as not get into a pissing match with a much bigger team.

Seems like we have a capable team every season. Of course winning the President's Trophy in 09 then getting knocked out by the 8th seeded Ducks in the first round was heartbreaking. Now the Ducks have a chance at the President's Trophy this season.
I however thought that our best chance was in 2011. We were knocked out by Vancouver on a fluke goal that hit the corner of the glass and everyone thought it went out of play.
Looking good this season, we're second in the Pacific Division and we don't have many of our players that can make a huge impact. Pavelski is also the league's second leading scorer right now. Just wait until the other players return:
Hertl
Couture
Burish

I was sad to see Clowe go. He was that type of player. I guess he just wasn't producing at the time he was traded. He is now though. And I don't know, some of the guys I didn't think were like that are stepping up. They're defensemen, so I guess "especially up front" still applies.

Girgensons is a stud. I'm not ready to give up on grigorenko but with the way he's been fucked around and his challenge to get out of juniors I don't know what we have in him. Zadorov and ristolainen are going to be Norris contenders.

I'm hoping we send matt moulson to la for a first. Then flip ehrhoff to a team like the oilers for a prospect and a 2nd. That still leaves them with halak and Stewart they can flip. I'm all about acquiring picks and prospects.
Then we can go into the draft and get the 1st pick and have enough assets to make a run at a few quality players via trade. A la bobby Ryan.

Well, I was right...the Leafs are out of the playoffs...couldn't make it in on an 82-game schedule...sad for the NHL that only 1 CDN franchise made the playoffs...all 7 should be in, in 7 different series, not 1.

*slaps you for being dumb*
Here's an example of what I meant. The type of NHL playoff scenario I'd like.
Round of 16
Eastern Conference
CBJ V. NJ
TOR V. FLA
MTL V. PHI
OTT V. BUF
Western Conference
WPG V.MIN
CGY V. DAL
EDM V. STL
VAN V. COL
Conf. Semi-Finals
East
TOR V. CBJ
OTT V. MTL
West
WPG V. VAN
CGY V. EDM
Conf. Finals
East
TOR V. MTL
West
WPG V. EDM
Stanley Cup Final
TOR V. WPG
Stanley Cup Champion
Toronto Maple Leafs
That's the gist of what I meant. All 7 CDN teams make the playoffs. All 7 play in 7 of the 8 available 1st Round series. All 7 win their Round 1 series. And the last U.S. NHL team is eliminated in the Conf. Semi Final round, leaving the rest of the playoffs to air only in Canada, with no more playoff hockey, for the last 5 weeks of the season, on U.S. TV, ad money from U.S. advertisers be damned.

I'm afraid of got some BAD NEWS for the Detroit RedWings.
The puck went off your shin DeKeyser and into the goal causing your team to lose in Overtime. Your team now faces an elimination game in Boston and come on son you guys are done.
But I've got some GOOD news. If this was soccer you'd already have been brutally beaten by your fans and/or soccer hooligans and organized crime families!

So...Canada now has to put up with a 20th straight season with no Cup parade down a Canadian city streets.
Well, to all you fans of the 23 U.S. NHL clubs, fans of Gary Fagman, and the NHL on NBC can all go fuck yourselves.
I'm fed up with U.S. NHL control fucking over Canada's NHL clubs all the time.
All of you who cheer the 23 U.S. NHL clubs, regardless of where you live, can kiss my fucking ass. I won't be happy until I get what I want to see..Bettman resignation, NBC no longer getting any say in NHL Creative, and someone BORN AND MADE IN CANADA being the NHL Commissioner/President.
As far as I care, the Cup Championship is vacant, until the U.S. 2-decade unbeaten run stops.
I don't care who wins what now, and the U.S. can take whatever it thinks is right for Canadian professional sports, and shove it straight up their candy-asses. FUCK. YOU!
I'm also not interested in all of the horseshit lies that will be told by anyone who happens to support the status quo in the NHL. We in Canada shouldn't have to pander to the U.S. to have something cool.
To me, Canada's NHL clubs are treated as slaves to the ones in the U.S. HOW DARE THAT TYPE OF TREATMENT CONTINUE?!
In closing, suck my dick, you U.S. NHL fuckwads.

Spilchuk, when I talk NHL, it's not ever...NOT EVER...with a sense of humour nor good will to the U.S. NHL clubs.
I mean everything I say about them, for it is their punishment from me for behaving like dictators to VAN, CGY, EDM, WPG, TOR, OTT, and MTL. Telling those clubs what to do, how to do it, and how to vote in Board of Governor's meetings.
If I were the 7 above-named clubs, I'd just walk away from all participation in BOG talks and meetings until a Commissioner came along that made a level playing field for Canada's pro hockey clubs. One where, for example, a Crosby-esque player could play for a Canadian pro team, and carry them to a title, instead of VAN, CGY, EDM, WPG, TOR, OTT, and MTL being treated as fucking junior clubs, like the teams in the real junior hockey league, the Canadian Hockey League.
Gary Fagman is under the impression that once he takes something out of Canada, the Canadian NHL clubs would be contracted out of the league for trying to get it back. It shows that the NHL is far more broken and corrupt than the NBA, except Gary, being a risk-averse(what I call cheap) fuck, knows how to spin a phrase around.
I will not be happy until he is out of the league, and the Commish after him is NOT a clone of him, carrying on Gary's business plan long after Fagman's dead.
Gary's ideas do NOT work for Canada, only work for the U.S. Dollar, the most hypocritical and sanctimonious currency on this planet, and are anti-trust in design. How those here can be fans of U.S. NHL clubs, under HIS administration, and knowing full well that Canada's NHL clubs aren't permitted any voice of protest, is beyond me.
And no, what I say about the NHL isn't empty rhetoric. It's the truth...it's a truth I've studied for years, while watching Fagman's body language, and seeing him be discomforted when he's not in control.
It pisses me off to no fucking end to see it either, and makes me beg for someone to take a swing at his jaw, smash it, and break his composure. That way, you can see Gary finally reveal himself for what he is...a contempt-driven shit, only out for his own personal bank account, lined with the money Canada's NHL clubs pay into the league, which is more than what the U.S. clubs pay.
In short, I'm telling those here...DON'T agree with Fagman, DON'T listen to him, and DON'T take shots at Canadian pro hockey anymore. I'm fed up with anti-Canada sentiment here, and want it to die within the whole world of hockey.
Fuck Fagman, Fuck the U.S. NHL clubs, and Fuck the NHL on NBC.

It was all over CBC the other day, but then the NHL came out with immediate statements of, "no plans for expansion at this time." etc.
Even though the GTA could easily support a second team, I'd rather see Hamilton finally get a team. It's an easier drive for those of us from the neighbouring cities in South-Western Ontario.
Would love to see Quebec get the Nordiques back. Was a Nordiques fan (for some reason?) when I was a kid.

Yeah it would be nice to see Hamilton get one over a 2nd Toronto team. No doubt there would be a shitton of animosity towards a 2nd Toronto team. Say what you will about the Leafs and their fan base, but damn are they passionate.
I might buy season tickets for a Hamilton team if they get one. Don't know if I'd be a "fan" per se, but I'd definitely go to the games and let them grow on me. It'd only be about a 40m drive from work, could easily hit up games any day of the week

With armageddon happening in the NFL, David Stern's laundry list of terrible decisions, and Bud Selig's ever-present steroids demon (kane) lurking.......... is Bettman the least-terrible commissioner in pro sports?
Probably not fair to include Stern in that since Silver is now NBA commissioner, but for the sake of argument let's consider Stern's legacy since Silver's hasn't really started yet.

Nope. Might be the worst overall. Goodell is very close although his tenure hasn't come close to killing the league like with Bettman.
Least terrible is probably the MLS commish mostly because he's been smart enough to grow the league slowly and limited his bad stuff to a minimum.
Three Lockouts, no.
Can easily see a 4th be possible if he's around by then since the recent one was all the owners fault and felt more like a delay than getting anything huge done long term wise.

I've been crazy about hockey stats since I was a kid, but I hate Corsi & Fenwick. It makes me sound stupid, but disregarding the actual stats, I hate how they are called "Corsi & Fenwick". I just hate the sound of it.

They also grabbed Nick Leddy from Chicago.</font>

via TSN:
TORONTO - It was a little like rubbing salt in the wound for the Maple Leafs. Down 5-2 with a little less than eight minutes remaining Saturday night, they had to watch as a Toronto jersey came flying onto the ice at Air Canada Centre.
One fan, unable to throw in the towel, opted to give up his jersey instead.
"When a fan does that, they're frustrated — as are we," said Toronto captain Dion Phaneuf. "We do not like to put forth the effort we did (tonight) on any night, especially in front of our fans. We take responsibility for not giving them what they want. They wants to see wins, as do we.
"We want to win hockey games but tonight we didn't display enough and do enough little things to win a game. We got beat all over the ice."
Toronto also lost its home opener, 4-3 to Montreal on Wednesday.
The Penguins did not miss the fan's statement Saturday.
"That's always really bad when you see that," said winger Pascal Dupuis. "You don't want any jerseys on the ice, any team. That's no class, no respect, obviously."
Sidney Crosby, remembering the days when the Penguins were at the other end of the standings, said he felt for the Leafs after the show of fan disaffection.
"It doesn't help, but obviously the fans are going to make their opinions known or show what they think, but it definitely doesn't help things and I'm sure with it being so early, it's not fun to see that in your home rink." he said. "I think you kind of feel for guys.
"As a player playing in your home rink, I don't think you ever want to see that, but again fans are here and they have high expectations."
I caught pieces of this game at work last night, and every time I stopped to watch I just saw a continuan of the end of last season Its sad that two games in this is happening, but I don't really blame the fans. .
Bickel needs to pay some of this contract back seriously.

Not much hockey talk going on here lately.
Any thoughts on the McDavid hand injury.
Basically, people are complaining that he fought - because he hurt his hand. But if he had not have punched the glass and hurt his hand, all the articles the next morning would have been praising him for his toughness and sticking up for himself.
TPWW hockey is going well, but I'm having second thoughts after I dropped Kyle Turris from my team. Too late though, one of the non-TPWW guys scooped him up. My potential loss. :p

A no-win situation for sure, but there was still no way his teammates should have let him fight.... someone should have jumped in and taken over the fight, no matter "how much of a pussy" it makes McDavid look like....

Don Cherry would be proud, and I totally agree....every team needs a Lucic-like type who can score, and still bash skulls when the star gets railed from behind or whatever....

Pat Quinn dead at 71 (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/pat-quinn-dead-at-71-1.2846984)
Pat Quinn, who spent more than four decades in the NHL as a player, head coach and general manager, has died at the age of 71.
The Hockey Hall of Fame and the Western Hockey League's Vancouver Giants on Monday confirmed that Quinn passed away on Sunday night at Vancouver General Hospital after a long illness.
Quinn was a co-owner of the Giants. He was the Hall of Fame's chairman of the board as well as a longtime member of its selection committee.
"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Pat Quinn”, said Jim Gregory, vice-chairman of the Hockey Hall of Fame, in a statement. "Pat is one of hockey's most respected individuals whose lifetime involvement as a player, coach and executive has made an indelible mark on the game, and our thoughts and prayers are with [Quinn's wife] Sandra and all of Pat's family and friends at this extremely difficult time."
Quinn, who was born in Hamilton, Ont., played parts of nine seasons as a defenceman in the NHL. "The Big Irishman" scored only 18 goals but was recognized for his imposing size and toughness.
After his playing career, Quinn was an NHL head coach for 20 seasons with five different teams, most recently the Edmonton Oilers in the 2009-10 season. He also served stints behind the bench with Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Vancouver and Toronto.
Quinn was the head coach of the Canadian men's team that won the Olympic title in 2002 in Salt Lake City, ending a 50-year gold-medal drought. He also guided Team Canada to the world junior championship in 2009.

Pat Quinn was responsible for the looney being placed under the ice in Salt Lake and that cost Team USA #1 the gold in 2002. He shoulda won a cup in Toronto though. He had Mats Sundin!

Blues signed Martin Brodeur to a 1 year deal.
NHL fined the Kings $100,000 for violating the suspension given to Slava Voynov. Voynow got in trouble because of a domestic violence case and one of the terms didn't allow him on-ice practice time.
