Damn... Ollie really has the deck stacked against him in this feud...

Super strong psycho enemy... mother dead... Sara seemingly skipped town... Roy out of play... Busted knee... Financially Broke...

HOW WILL OLIVER QUEEN OVERCOME THE ODDS?!

We actually got some Felicity and Oliver alone time this episode. Then you had Sara clearly referring to Oliver that he should be with Felicity.

It was fantastic.

She'll make him a better man.

Oliver will go it alone for a little awhile, and Felicity will get with Barry Allen. It's going to happen.

Man I just saw this weeks episode. HOLY SHIT! What a game changer. Moira went out like a goddam boss. Hate that she didn't get to warn Ollie about Malcolm being alive. So we have one major character down...really strong feeling that Speedy's (pending) death will make roy 'honor' her by going by Speedy. So glad that Sarah's butt chin is gone. Won't miss her gross face. And we get more Felicity. I actually want to see more Waller next year. And can we appreciate that H.I.V.E has been established already, with one sentence in one scene....and nobody has even worried about mentioning that yet?

These next three weeks will be amazing, but I can't wait to see where we go from here.

DaveBrawl
04-25-2014, 11:14 AM
Which scene/sentence was that?

DaveBrawl

Would love more Waller/Suicide Squad btw. Would make a great summer filler when Arrow is on break.

Which scene/sentence was that?

In Russia, after Diggle broke his girl out of Prison. He is in the Hummer with Deadshot. He orders him out of the car, and holds him point blank, ready to shoot him for killing his brother....

Then Dead shot trolls him, saying that Honor is why he can't pull the trigger, and it can't be turned on or off. Diggle and him banter about why Diggle hates him, when Diggle says 'My brother was protecting your target and YOU MISSED!'
To which Deadshot admits 'I didn't miss. I never miss, YOUR BROTHER WAS THE TARGET!" A stunned Diggle asks, why. Deadshot, realizing that he owes a little more to him says ' I don't have a name. But I can tell you the group....H.I.V.E' Deadshot exits....stage right.

This was an awesome scene. Even more awesome is that after that encounter, we see diggle, post wiggle, offering to make breakfast for his ex wife. As she leaves to shower off...he pulls out his phone and searches for HIVE...end episode. I don't know if I have that word for word...but it went down something like that. It was amazing and I hope that they pull on that string soon. I thought that Deathstroke and Moira had something to do with HIVE, but now I don't know. Can't wait to see.

Would love more Waller/Suicide Squad btw. Would make a great summer filler when Arrow is on break.

This would be just amazing. Kinda pumped for Flash first though.

DaveBrawl

Gonna have to go back and rewatch the last half of this, Cox cable seems to either hate the CW or this show as it freezes up at some point every week when I try to watch it. Normally not for that long, but this time it just kept glitching out it went out when Oliver was fighting the first soldier and they cut to a commercial and it came back and Laurel was standing there with him.

Don't even remember Summer having a mask & costume, just seeing her at the reception. Very disappointing.

Corporate CockSnogger
05-02-2014, 06:14 AM
Gonna agree with the comments about Summer Glau's mask, looked completely cheesy and out of place. Kinda hate Summer Glau in general anyway. Never seen the appeal in her, although I love Firefly. She's not attractive, not a particularly good actress and always just seems awkwardly out of place in every show.

I thought it was "alright". The mask did look a lot "faker" and "rubberier" than all the other masks. Would have been better just modifying the mask everyone else was wearing. Use it as a base, rather than this new one.

Kind of reminded me of the terrible looking plastic mask thing that they had Stargirl in on Smallville:

Also, RIP Sebastian Blood.... was kinda weird him just dying after setting up/teasing an "evil mayor who knows Ollie's secret" dynamic for the next season. Thought he was gonna somehow pull through, and somehow also keep his job as mayor for at least part of the third season.

Awesome episode last night. The Merlyn/Thea angle fell short of expectations for me. About a combined 5 minutes of them with it ending on a cliffhanger.

I hope they give them a lot more time in the finale to get everything out there for those two, if that happens.

What a great hour of action. We could've done without the Canary redemption crap, but the showrunners loves the Lances. Oh well, they've been intergral to the show so far. The clip for next weeks show has Roy, Merlin and Ollie all suited up together.

And Blood isnt dead. His character is all about reincarnation and magic and blood resurrections and shit. READ A WIKI PEOPLE! I'm not even sure who I'm yelling at. Sorry guys.

This fits for just about everyone "dead" in the show... there will be some loophole almost everyone can find. Even with Mr. Queen eating a gun in a flashback, he still could somehow still get the Moriarty treatment. Besides, you can't tell me Blood was screwing around with Mirikuru and used NONE of it on himself. And let's not forget Grundy is a thing.

That was great. Dude, I loved every minute of it... I marked when Oliver said that to Felcity. I thought it was con when Slade had her, but at that moment I totally bought it. I mean obviously he does love her, but they have to stay apart for as long as possible.

Was a pretty good finale. Not as "hard hitting" and "cliffhanger/omg I need the next season now" as the first season finale left things.

Still a lot to be interested in.

I find it weird how Sara seemed so happy to go back with The League of Assassins.... she just spent like all of the season trying to get away from them, to "redeem herself", and trying to be a "hero" but struggling with the darkness within....

Then she had the spotlight moment last week where it seemed like she had finally started to feel good and "hero"ish.

Doesn't make sense for her to go back to being a killer for a crazy assassin cult after all that, even if she gets lesbian sex. Totally negates all her character growth.

While she indeed did have a butt-chin, I hope she isn't gone.

I also really hope that Detective Lance is ok.

Well the reason she came back was because of her family. Maybe she thinks she can go back and make things different instead of the straight up killer assassin thing.

Solid episode last night. Everything flowed together nice.

Only thing that caught me of guard was Summer Glau getting killed off. I figured they would keep her alive so that Oliver Queen would somehow get control of the company back from her, then stick her in a cell and move on. But I guess they got a different avenue planned next season. Maybe buy a boatload of shares Bruce Wayne style?

Thea spurning Roy and going with Merlyn, expected. Along with Sarah going back to the League. Price of calling them in for backup I suppose.

Knew then swerve was coming at the mansion scene. Pretty much screamed "Ooooooooooooooh, he knows it's bugged!".

All in all, I enjoyed the finale. Hoping Paul Blackthrone makes it through. Enjoyed the Quentin character. A.R.G.U.S./Amanda Waller having major roles next season via flashbacks is exciting. We're finally off the island..........for now.

Casting calls for new characters in season 3 are out:

20something gent — a major recurring character for Season 3 — is a handsome, enigmatic and highly intelligent entrepreneur developing groundbreaking technology. (Picture a business magnate in Ryan Gosling’s body.) Though exuding charm and confidence in public, he privately harbors a tragic past that will drive him to become a tech-powered superhero. Watch for this formidable fella to be a love interest for Felicity and a rival of Oliver’s – both personally and professionally.

This is almost certainly Ted Kord, the Blue Beetle. Kord was name dropped early in season 2.

A well-educated criminal with grand ambitions and a knack for chemistry, this potentially recurring character gains power over his enemies by exposing them to a drug that drains their willpower. Oh, and he is very much a physical match for The Arrow.

Speculation was for Scarecrow, but I think this is a highly stylized adaptation of Parasite. Any other ideas?

Lock Jaw
06-16-2014, 03:26 PM

Kalyx triaD

Like I said anyways, I think it is just that actor working the internet.

I think they are going to have to tone down any Bat-References with Gotham coming out. Probably won't see/hear from the League of Assassins too much anymore, or ever see Ra's Al Ghul.

Kalyx triaD
06-16-2014, 03:50 PM
But Ras didn't factor into Bruce's past normally, that was a Nolan thing. I think Gotham will steer of anything that fantastical and Arrow/Flash can use those elements and characters.

But DC has been hardcore about this sort of thing before.

McLegend
06-16-2014, 07:25 PM
You guys are talking about Steven R McQueen posting a picture of himself with Stephen Amell at an LA Kings games recently. There were rumors of him playing Nightwing back around November. So yes I think it's just a dude working the internet.

I think Nyssa is too important of a character now that she is going to have to have some air time in season 3 along with the league. Ras on the other hand you're probably not seeing.

It would make sense for him to appear in season 3 since Malcolm Merlin is going to be the main bad guy. He comes out to put down his adopted son or something like that.

Katana is someone from the comics. Most associated with (Batman and) The Outsiders.

Though I believe in recent New 52 comics there is some sort of connection with Green Arrow. Been meaning to check out some Green Arrow comics..... was pretty terrible, but I hear it got "good" after Jeff Lemire took over the book. I hear he brought Diggle over into the comics.

McLegend
07-01-2014, 09:27 PM
I think Green Arrow's lack of popularity is a big reason why the show is so good.

They kept the origin of being stranded on an island for x amount of years, but they have changed a lot of his story haven't they? There isn't really any hardcore fan base that is going to get pissed off by what happens to certain characters. I think that's a definite plus for the show.

Also Arrow is probably slowly turning Green Arrow into a Main Eventer for DC. I would think they the popularity of the character had grown over the past 2 years.

Lock Jaw
07-03-2014, 09:05 PM
Just as I express interest in Jeff Lemire's Green Arrow run... it appears to be ending! However! The new writers will be Arrow's executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, and Ben Sokolowski, one of the writers from the show.

Ray Palmer doesn't need to have anything to do with Jean Loring in the show if they don't want.

Like what they are doing with Olicity is exactly what they should do. Felicity has to get with a few dudes now, and Oliver has to be alone this season.

I really enjoyed the conversation on the date, and the way they interacted throughout the whole episode. The Hospital was bitter sweet.

Brandon Routh also displayed more charisma and personality in 5 mins he was on Arrow then he did throughout the 2.5 hours he was in Superman Returns. Good job Brandon Routh.

Great season premier last night.

Bringing Canary back and then killing her was surprising but I figured it would happen eventually to make "Dinah" Laural Lance the Black Canary we all know. The real question now is was it Ra's league that did it, was it Ra's himself or was it Merlin?

What did everyone think about the New Count Vertigo?

He's getting pretty negative reviews mostly because if the similarities to the Scarecrowe, which I understand. I liked him though, because he does seem like he could be a legit threat to Arrow.

One of my on,y complaints about the show so far is they haven't done a great job of building up the villians of the week. They are mostly jobbers. Example being how they didn't do The Clock King any favors last year. Seems like the only one they wanted to be was Seth's Gabriel's Vertigo, but that probably didn't work out the way they wanted it to.

So I hope we see more of the new Count Vertigo in the future.

DaveBrawl
10-13-2014, 08:26 AM
I agree with you. We're on our second Vertigo now and the first was one of like 2 that weren't the season ending baddies that had any sort of build to them, the other being Deadshot. Bronze Tiger has been used a handful of times and we know nothing about him (which I kind of like in his case, but the point remains).

Word. Powerful emotions.... I like how there is a constant sense of character growth and change in this series...

Season 1 was Oliver just straight up being a vigilante...
Season 2 he was trying to become a hero, and succeeded...

Now Season 3 it looks like he may start to doubt his career choices....

So who do we think killed Sara?

My money is on Katana. I bet Sara killed her husband or something.

I really liked how Oliver was throughout the whole show. Stephen Amell did a good acting job. His exchange with Felcity and his last scene with Diggle were excellent.

I don't know who killed her. I feel that it has to somehow tie back to Oliver, and he has to be a reason or the reason she was killed. Also hope it's someone we have already seen just to give us a chance to figure it out. I like a good mystery.

This actually bothers me greatly about the show... only slightly more than the forced "requisite CW melodrama moments" that seem to be written in after the script is already done. Kind of like G.I. Joe PSAs, but cheesier.

But yeah, Dig needs a mask. That occasional bank robber ski mask isn't doing it- especially when he's only worn it like twice ever. Also, they play fast and loose with using their real names for eachother in public as it is, and all the masks and hoods in the world isn't going to stop someone from noticing an obviously undisguised Diggle calling his companion Oliver if they didn't already catch on from... well, and undisguised Diggle.

Also if I'm a writer on Arrow I'm making Laurel Black Canary in the next epiosde. Laurel is at her best when she is happy, and her being Canary would be as close as you can get.

Also 2 things that I'm not really sure work anymore.

1) Laurel still not telling her Father about Sara. I'm not sure if that's still an intriguing plot line. I think Detective Lance has to find out.
2) Why can't Thea know that Oliver is the Arrow? Thea not knowing he is The Arrow is defintely not an intriguing plot line. Last night is even more interesting if she knows about Oliver's secert.

Lock Jaw
01-29-2015, 08:47 PM

McLegend
01-29-2015, 08:52 PM
Yeah he should play a bigger role. It would be hard to find time for him though.

Also how terrible is Laurel's Black Canary costume? We have covered Laurel physical appearance earlier in this thread(mid season 2), but that costume is not doing her any favors. I kind of feel like she is going to have a short shelf life has Black Canary. I don't see her going through season 4... Also when her Dad does eventually find out about Sara he better have a heart attack to justify for Laurel not telling him. It's totally ridiculous.

Lock Jaw
01-29-2015, 08:58 PM
I know the heroes are "busy".... but I keep wondering why they just do nothing about Malcolm Merlyn....

Dude pulled the strings to have Sara killed (via Thea) and then sending Ollie out to likely die...

But all they really do is talk to him and warn him not to do anything ELSE.

McLegend
01-29-2015, 09:04 PM
I agree, but they can't do anything to him. He would kill all of them.

Now if they turn him over to League they will end up killing Thea. Then question would become would they really kill Thea since she was under mind control basically? Wouldn't Ra's Ah Ghul understand?

Lock Jaw
01-29-2015, 09:24 PM
Surely they can at least try to concoct some plan to "outsmart" him, knowing they can't beat him in a fight.

I'm waiting till it makes it apparence on TV before I see it.

Might be the conclusion of the Arrow Rising Triology tonight.

I loved it.

Poor Oliver

Ehhhh... I'm just not feeling Merlyn... it just pushes it a bit for me how they are fitting him in now that he is a main cast member....

Rolled my eyes when Roy was trying to defend him, and throw "the undertaking" in a rosy positive light of Merlyn just trying to do good.

Felicity is pretty much the only one reacting like how they should all react.

Also...

Ollie was stabbed in what looked like his heart (but yet only had bandages on his stomach) and tossed off a cliff.... must be some damn good medicine to bring a guy back from that... I hope this is expanded on further, because right now it is also pushing incredulity.

Yeah you aren't wrong. I do think he needs Merlyn to train him in order to beat Rhu's, but obviously Merlyn is going to screw him in the end.

I feel like Oliver should have been away for longer to recuperate as well. Maybe there is some sort of mystical healing he had after all?

Also looks like next week is going to be a Laurel centric episode... Not loving that.

I love Laurel..,

That's good she needs people to love her. There isn't many out there.

She's just kind of a buzz kill.

Lock Jaw

She is alright. Just looked weird in season 2. Think she has improved in the current season.

I knew he came back at one point.

Totally dislike Laurel has Black Canary. Not feeling it at all. Other then that good stuff. Thea, did have a good quick turn on Malcolm Merlyn there.

Yeah it was pretty quick but for 90% of the series she was Oliver's number one fan.

I liked the episode overall tonight with Oliver finding his purpose. I also enjoyed some origins for the characters and places. Also a funny line or two about the near future.

What importance does this General have, Lock Jaw?

Is it me or did Felicity look really hot tonight?

Felicity was INCREDIBLY hot in this episode as always.

What I'm wondering is when Slade's Mirakuru will no longer be dormant. I say that because I think unlike everyone else he'll get it back in his own not because it was in him for years, but because the cure was made from Roy's blood so it makes sense that everyone whose Mirakuru came from his blood to be cured but Slade's obviously wasn't.

Good episode, yeah....

Not sure about the General... his name is familiar....

Oh, ok.

General Matthew Shrieve was the leader of the "Creature Commandos" in the comics... a "commando unit" made of "monsters" like a frankenstein creature, werewolf, mummy, vampire, etc.... and a robot.

I'm not sure if there's a worse character on a good show than Laurel. Every scene she's in makes me consider if I want to carry on watching this.

I'm really tired of these flashback-heavy episodes. I know they're an important part of the back story, but I feel like the last couple episodes haven't been balanced very well. Every time the "real-time" story starts to build up some momentum, a flashback happens and the narrative slams on the brakes for four minutes while Waller yells at Young Ollie for a segment.

VSG

I don't mind them in general but this last episode was pretty meh for me, especially with the excellent Flash episode the day before. I realize this isn't a fair comparison but it does come up all the time.

Yeah the flashbacks have been the weaker parts of every episode since they left the island, and its generally bringing down the quality of season 3 for me, along with Slade not being around bar this last episode.

Lock Jaw
02-20-2015, 01:31 PM
Yeah, the flashbacks have gone downhill since leaving the island and also not having Slade Wilson in them anymore.

McLegend
02-20-2015, 07:25 PM
I'm willing to give the season 3 flashback a pass, because I know it's building to something really important. I'm willing to wait till I give a final say.

I always defended until recently. I've found that that main character" long time love interest is always kind of hated on most shows so I gave th benfit of the doubt with that in mind. However the whole Laurel being Black Canary doesn't so anything for me. I don't have a short term interest let alone long term interest in seeing her being Canary. I don't see her lasting very long.

I do feel that killing off Sara Lance was a mistake in the long run. Sara Lance far more interesting a character and looked better in the suit than Laurel.

Lock Jaw
02-20-2015, 10:38 PM
Also felt that Sara's story didn't end so great in season 2 and I wanted more from it. Struggling to get out and not be a killer the whole season and then she pretty much just happily rejoins at the end....

Hype going around the interwebs is saying tonight is supposed to be a big time episode.

Although I really do hate the fade to black gunshot cliché ending cliffhanger episodes, so I'm tempted to just pass tonight and watch it in the morning.

McLegend

That was good.

Ray Palmer has to die though.

Lock Jaw
02-26-2015, 05:34 PM
Uhhh... what?

Merlyn captured, everyone pointing out that he still has that video of Thea killing Sara.... and Ollie is just all "He's bluffing, he would never show them"

.....

Was that not the whole point of his first confrontation with Ra's? Merlyn saying he would show the video unless Oliver went and challenged Ra's?

McLegend
02-26-2015, 08:30 PM
I agree... Counter point

Oliver didn't yet know that Merlyn really did care about Thea at the point.

Breaking news:

Deadline reporting that another possible Arrow/Flash spin-off is in the works. Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer), Victor Garber (Martin Stein), Wentworth Miller (Captain Cold), and Caity Lotz (Sara Lance/Canary) are listed as the expected stars. Plus "three major DC Comics characters who have never appeared in a TV series".

According to Deadline, the project may go straight to series, possibly with a midseason debut.
