This movie is crazy. One of the most original movies I've ever seen. The entire thing is set on a sound stage with chalk outlines telling us where each building is. Instead of explaining it, here are screenshots:

PLOT: A woman (Nicole Kidman) comes to a small US town called Dogville, running from some gangsters that are after her. She is eventually befriended in the town and helps people out with things in exchange for allowing her to stay. However, police keep coming to search for her and so do the gangsters, and people begin to grow suspicious of her "secret". Soon, they all begin to turn on her, slowly but surely and her stay in Dogville goes from pleasant to hell.

The movie is basically saying that humans are all evil assholes by nature and are out for their own good, and will step over others to better themselves.

Some people have bashed it, saying that it's an anti-American movie and Dogville is supposed to represent the US. It could be, since the director/writer has been known to be pretty hateful towards America, apparently, but that's not really what I took from it.

It's a great movie, IMO. It is a little slow at times, and is three hours long, so you will need some patience to watch it, but it's worth it in the end, IMO. It's on Kazaa or IRC if you want to download it. Or it should be out on DVD some time in August.

Plus, it's ranked as the #99 greatest film of all time on IMDb.

I saw it at the cinema a few months back. It was good, the background f</>ucked with my head at first, i thought it was going to just be some clever thing for the opening scene. You get used to it though. Good movie. I took a piss break at the worst moment though. the narrator was like "and nothing happened for months and months, time passed by slowly and... etc etc" so i legged it out and came back and the mafia had burnt half the town down.

Yea I downloaded it from suprnova a couple weeks actually. It is slow at some parts and watching it on the computer doesn't help but the ending is so ****ing good.

It's the first movie of a trilogy right? The next movie being Mandalay I believe....

don't know if anyone made a topic aboot this yet, but anyway. I watched the first 10 minutes of the movie yesterday with my dad. But then I took it off cause he wanted to watch Along Came Polly instead. But as far as I saw, it was pretty sweet, it looked more like a documentary, but prity kool.

Anyone seen it? Whacha think aboot it?

I keep hearing about these Dogme 95 director films. Conflicting reports.
