Similar to the first beta, the second beta test going on right now was plagued with issues. At first, Capcom announced it was unlikely they'd be able to fix the problem but ended up sending out a quick patch that fixed some of the matchmaking problems.
Some people have managed to be able to play without problems since then while others are still having connection issues with the beta.
Capcom detailed the situation in an employee blog. According to the developer, several new problems came about recently which affected the rate at which matches are made. It's said that matchmaking is very slow right now. As Capcom put it, the beta "[isn't] operat[ing] exactly as we intended."
Things probably won't get better either. Capcom says that "[it's] not confident that the matchmaking rate will improve significantly throughout the course of the beta period. That said, user experience will vary." Regardless, the servers will be kept on for the previously-announced time frame.

PC Beta is getting datamined to hell and back. In the characters data, we have some 3 figures representing names, so the following should be in:
URN: Urien
ALX: Alex
GUL: Guile
IBK: Ibuki (!!!)
JRI: Juri
BSN: Bison AKA Balrog in the west
There's also NDK and FAN. FAN seems to be a huge character, so might be a story mode boss. The files have much more bones for FAN than any other character.
Because of the 16 characters at launch and one of the unannounced one being another new character, some of these will likely by the first batch of DLC they're working on. However, they could just be in story or cameo appearances. For instance, Karins butler is in them.

Someone did some more digging and found something that refers to story splash screens. That would probably be the initial roster. There's 17 here, which could really mean that FAN is a boss. Here they are based on Japanese names, so although Balrog is there, that's Vega to us:
RYU - RYU
CNL - CHUN-LI
NSH - NASH
VEG - VEGA
BLR - BALROG
BRD - BIRDIE
FAN - NEW CHARACTER
CMY - CAMMY
DSM - DHALSIM
LAR - LAURA
KEN - KEN
KRN - KARIN
NCL - NECALLI
RMK - R.MIKA
RSD - RASHID
TUT - NEW CHARACTER
ZGF - ZANGIEF
Dhalsim, TUT and FAN to be the last announcements.

Hackers managed to discover all the color variations for each fighter revealed during the recent beta session. Most are just simple color swaps but a few do change a fighter's appearance a bit.
http://www.destructoid.com//ul/318835-NNN1.jpg
This is to be expected for a fighting game, but Street Fighter V will feature 10 color variations for each character. Dedicated fans have of course uncovered them by making use of leftover files, using data from the recent PC and PS4 beta session.
Some of them are just small outfit color swaps, but in the case of Necalli above, they can sometimes be more dramatic. Whether these will be locked behind the new "merit-based" DLC system is unknown.
http://www.destructoid.com/someone-uncovered-10-color-variations-for-each-character-in-street-fighter-v-318835.phtml
Also discovered announcer files that might be revealing who will be in the first wave of DLC fighters for the game. As well as special files related to possible upcoming pro tournament events.

Capcom currently dealing with Buttgate after some recent changes and tweaks made to the game. Mostly fixed or removed some possible creeper-like stuff from certain animations and intros with Cammy and R Mika affected the most.
wasn't long ago that Capcom claimed Chun-Li's absurd level of boob movement in Street Fighter V was a "glitch" and it was working on a fix before the game was released. I wonder if it will also claim that R. Mika's original super-ending ass slap was also a glitch?
Either way, it looks like that particular butt shot is gone for now, though I wouldn't be surprised to see it return as optional DLC at some point. Capcom has also made changes to a few of the game's other crotch close ups. Check out the full thread on NeoGAF for more details.
Also turns out the boob glitch sort of wasn't just an accidental glitch according to a recent ESRB review for the game. Won't be as ridiculous as some gifs and videos previously showed off but the general idea is around the same.

We've always known that Capcom has a clear, unified approach to Street Fighter V. The game, according to the publisher so far, will not be constantly updated with "Super" and "Ultra" editions -- instead, there will be one base version that's added onto over time. Now we have a basic timeline.
According to Ono, the game is running on a five year plan, which will include constant balancing updates. Ono states, "simple maths [sic] suggest it'll take five years to get to the roster of Street Fighter IV [44], and we want to keep the game going for that amount of time." He hints that while this is the initial plan, it may change after the game releases, depending on its reception.

Capcom recently gave an official statement regarding Buttgate for the game.
For a month now, fans have been speculating in regards to why Capcom would remove R. Mika's Critical Art butt slap animation from Street Fighter V, after already debuting footage for it.
Now, by way of UOL Jogos, we know Capcom's side. Evidently producer Yoshinori Ono noted that they didn't make the change due to "external influences" or pressure. Instead, it was an internal decision because they wanted "the biggest possible number of people to play," and that they don't want something in the game that would be "uncomfortable."

Ranked matches, casual matches, training, the Capcom Fighters Network, battle settings, and options will all be accessible. There will be two ten-hour maintenance periods where the beta will be temporarily shut down.
There's a fair amount of variation in the roster this time, too. The event will start with Ryu, Birdie, Cammy, Necalli, Nash, and Laura. Over the course of the weekend, Dhalsim and Zangief will be added into the mix. Capcom also teases that "there might be some surprise characters along the way."

I didn't play much of the beta. They've slowed things down a bit, and really shaken up Chun Li's move set. Simplified it down tbh, she has a lot of accumulated cruft in 4.

It's been a long road.
TBH I thought Street Fighter II was cool and I got it on the SNES but I was dense and had no-one to fight against. I would play a lot of Alpha 2 and 3 but same story. Then I really enjoyed SF4 but just felt intimidated playing online. I've been playing a bunch of IV online to warm up for V, and I was generally getting thrashed, but I was coming through the first stages of improving: not getting frustrated, and taking in what people are doing to me. If someone comes up with a simple but confident offence I would just crumple up and dash myself against it. I fought one guy twice in a row who utterly squashed me first time, and then on the second time I noticed he was just totally relying on me charging in.
It's one of those shameful things that I've been a big fan since 2 but never measurably improved. I just haven't put the time in.
V, to my amateur eyes, seems heavier, slower and more generous. They seem to have simplified the execution as well. I'm much more likely to commit to things nowadays when I start them, and so this is what I want to improve at.

Breakdown on how coins are earned in the game from Destructoid. It's actually possible to earn enough coins to get two characters for free but involves ignoring everything else costing coins.
Also the amount of free coins possible seems to have a soft cap set until Capcom releases more ways to earn coins.
Fight Coins are basically an earned, free currency, that you get from completing various events. Playing a "story" (read: less than 10 minute prologues) will net you 10,000 each clear, and a win online nets you 50. With one survival clear per character (there's 16 characters and four difficulty tiers for each one) you can net 6,000 coins each. You can also opt to buy into a premium currency called "Zenny," which will run you $1 per 100. Characters (here's the current schedule) cost 100,000 Fight Coins or 600 Zenny, story mode costumes cost 40,000 Fight Coins, and premium costumes are 400 Zenny.
On paper, you're getting one and a half characters outright (160,000 coins from just the prologues) for a few hours of work. That's...not bad, since said characters would be sold as paid DLC anyway. But Capcom is counting on you spending your currency on outfits, leaving you with less and less cash to buy characters with. It's a common strategy that's used in a lot of games -- hell, the free market in general. If you can resist the temptation, you'll likely come out on top.
Assuming the well of solo coins dries up, beyond that, you'll need to win roughly 2000 games a month to get a free character. But there are concessions. Leveling up a character by playing them will net you an extra 1000 coins per level, for example. When the shop opens in March, more prices emerge, and other modes arrive, we'll update accordingly. For now, the high rewards for single-player content are great, but we'll see how easy it is to earn Coins once players cap their levels out. "More ways to earn coins will be added throughout the year" Capcom says, but for now, this is just a promise.

Destructoid article is bullshit. When you actually play the game, you see how fast the levels go up so ignoring that bonus is silly. Mix up your character selection and you'll have the years worth of character DLC in fight money plus change for costumes.

Someone did the mathsmaths and there is ~640,000FM available in the base game by just completing story mode, easy survival and normal survival with every character, starting at level 1 each. Rough figures because the 3 fight stories come out at level 5 and the 4 fight ones hit 8, but it should be around that.

I've been online for a couple of hours while I did all of story mode/survival. I only got one online match in the entire time (Stomped by R Mika) in that time. The levelling up of characters seemed a little spotty, maybe I wasn't getting notifications.
A word of warning, I was playing survival mode and suspended the PS4, when I started up again it kicks you straight out because it lost the connection. Something to bear in mind if you're going for hell mode? Hopefully they patch it.
I'm fairly relaxed about it as I look at it as an ongoing service, but the AI in this game is fucking pointless. Even in Hell Survival it seems the same brain dead nothing, unless it increases as you go up levels? I suppose this is the bare minimum they had to do to get the game out. Hopefully the servers are going well soon.

The good being that Capcom is currently working on patching several things with most related to server/connection issues.

Matchmaking seems to be working okay, however I was just setting the fight request for casual matches and getting one within a minute. When I was playing USFIV at the weekend you'd sometimes get something 1 second into a match repeatedly. I think the longer loading times could be partly to blame.

So first impressions are I really really like it. A little more rushdown centric than I would have preferred, but I like it more than sf4. The v trigger mechanic in particular is much better than the focus/ultra stuff.
Said this before, but all the characters feel really fun to use and mess around with in the lab. To the point where I actually have no idea who I'm going to main. I mean, even Geif is in the running, which is first for me.
All that said, I think releasing the game with such barebones content was a mistake. Yeah there are plenty of people like myself and kalyx who aren't personally bothered by it, because we play primarily against other people, but we aren't the majority. And this isn't a niche game. Street Fighter is a major release, marketed to a mass market. So it's confounding why they would release a game that caters to a small percentage of potential buyers.
It doesn't matter that more content is being released free down the road. The majority of buyers are only interested in what they are getting now for their money. It doesn't matter whether they're right or wrong, all that matters is that there IS backlash. It's bad for business, which is in turn bad for the genre, and Capcom really should have seen it coming. Although this is Capcom we're talking about so I shouldn't really be surprised by the lack of foresight in competant decision making at this point.
If they were really so concerned about their capcom cup participants getting enough time with the game before the tournament, they could of just had some more open betas, or (gasp!) wait until next year to have it, when people will be REALLY good.
I also have to correct myself. I can't say that I'm completely indifferent to the content, because while I might not be bothered by the lack of single player content, 2 player lobbies is garbage and has no place in a 2016 fighting game.
So yeah, the game fucking rocks, but ONCE AGAIN I'm afraid capcom's business decisions may turn off potential new players, which whether you want to admit itmor not, the genre needs to grow.

I'm fully expecting a "Super" edition around this time next year. Allows them to re-release the disc as a GOTY type thing with the DLC already in, while we get a patch and have already bought the characters with FM/real month.

Until then I'll try to get my matches on youtube cause I been blowing dudes the fuck up. I love this game. Needs major expansion of online function. It should not have shipped doing less than USF4. With the Steam sales of the game, 100k sales i probably worth their time with the ease of porting, especially considering how barebones the PC version is. Some people were mocking it, but it's only 10k lifetime sales off of USFIV and 8k off SFxT. Hilariously, the peak number of players online is much higher than USFIV as well and that includes a free weekend for USFIV where anyone could play.

I heard it was impossible to be attracted to unreal women.
Week One Field Report:
This is the most I've ever grown in Street Fighter. I've now Dunning Krugered my way to know I've only started.
COMBOS
"What's a combo?" Me before last week. I knew what combos where, but never really thought to apply them. Time in training mode with Dummy set to 'Block after first attack' is all I needed to get started. Went on with Chun Li
I originally started with stuff like cr.lk,st.lp just to get the rhythm of combos.
Early on I discovered cr.mk, legs
and then realised I could cancel the legs into the CA, so that was the first time I had a viable option for my special beyond prayer and wild hope.
Since then I had a brief experiment/look around and have been drilling:
cr.lp, st.mp, cr.mk, HK legs
b.hp, HK legs
I found the 4 part one above pretty hard to get the timing on, I found I could do it very reliably if I paid attention to the hits happening on the screen. That sounds obvious, but when you're first practicing these things it's very easy to zone out. I'm just on the earliest stages of being able to hit confirm with these things.
ONLINE
I break up my training sessions with online matches because you just need the experience. I've largely taken my ego out of it, to not be defined by wins and losses - I caught it creeping back in at times, when I have 2 wins in ranked I start thinking about the 3 consecutive wins trophy and it goes. I tried to have one more win before I finished and it gets you stressed going into a match. My win rate is somewhere just below 50% at the moment, but that should be irrelevant.
WHEN I WIN
I wouldn't say I have too clear of a strategy at the moment. My blocking and punishing is getting there (from non-existent to existent), but my punish will just reflex to a sweep. I know I have to get there with my combos. I can get my CA combo out sometimes but at the moment I've a little too much on my plate to hitconfirm that. I can usually see that the other player doesn't have an effective punish and is generally a bit panicky. Some people just don't know how to follow up at all. Very frequently I'll see Ryu's give up the fireball game when I counter the first with my own. Then they stand and shit themselves while I walk in behind a lp fireball. It's alright, I won't know what to do with you when I get there.
I would say I lose to:
- Good players
- Good old solid Ryu players
- Sometimes very bad players who jump in a lot because they'll just get enough heavies in that I'm not punishing frequently enough and my block/response is off. I see my old self in them.
- Jumping in. Not all the time! I can block it, I think Chun Li's back HK seems very situational and will be tricky to learn to AA with. I wonder if her standard HK is any good for this with it's massive reach. I'm making fast progress with this though.
- Sweeps. I am blocking, but I will reflexively come out with a sweep that gets countered by their sweep (esp. Nash and Cammy). I know I have to work out the timings on these, and the sweep is a reflexive bad habit.
- Zangief: Players frequently have a good arsenal of combos that seem to have massive range and I haven't worked out his hurtboxes yet, so I'm in trouble.
Not that you see that many. Mostly Ryu, a lot of Cammys as of yesterday, some Nashes.
I can see the appeal of Cammy but she's a little too fancy. I know Chun Li is possibly the best, but I like that she's built around just core SF competency and that's what I need.

I don't have an easy answer for a string of fireballs with Chun Li so I have to deal with them the hard way. She seems like a hell of a lot of fun to play with though.

Her v skill is built to wreck projectile zoners from across the screen. Granted, it's too slow to use on reaction to a fireball, but if they're throwing them willy nilly it should be easy to predict, and you can hit them with a big combo.

Think I'm going to try the hori fight commander. Hate the ps4 controller. Share button too close to the d-pad. Occasionaly slip and go to the ps4 menu whilst my opponent lays into me. Also find the d-pad itself awkward, with it being four buttons instead of one solid piece.
Still considering a stick down the line, but this will do for now.

I've never hit the share button, are you using the ball of your thumb on the dpad?
My dark secret is that I've been using the analogue stick. It's been alright actually, and the d pad seems okay but my old urges were to press too hard. I usually practice between both and might go back to pad depending on how I feel.
The best advice is to find a way to relax what you're doing with your thumb. I won't talk anyone out of buying a pad, but sometimes it can be like wanting to spend your way out of a problem.
Also I cope with fireballs alright. Nobody goes hard on them anyway

Story isn't out yet. The prologue stuff with just voice over art is on youtube tho.
You do raise a point about how pointless it is going all out for a story mode in a fighting game when people can just youtube it. Big cinematic story modes just don't work for a fighting game unless you go the arksys model. DoA5 story mode even had a decent presentation but we're talking about a mode with little to no replay value. That to me makes it a waste of funds.
The Rogerer

All visual entertainment is then pointless. Actually, this would come the closest tbf.

The Rogerer

Heisenberg doesn't want to play the game but he wants to watch the story mode, so there's an intrinsic value to it. Your point seemed to be that if it was watchable on youtube it was a waste of money. Hence all visual art, which can be youtubed. Even if it doesn't have replay value, a cool story mode works for the brand.
Halo's story is fantastically unremarkable but yet people buy wholesale into the sacred lore of The Master Chief and read 50 books for some reason.

The story of halo manifest almost directly thru gameplay. Fighting games by design can't do this because fighting games by design were not meant for that. It would be adding cgi cutscenes to tetris. Pointless.
Sakurai addressed exactly this when he seen all his brilliant Smash 3 cutscenes get youtube'd. He very specifically said he wouldn't waste time on such a thing again. And he didn't. And Smash 4 still has tons of shit for single player.

Capcom announced they have finished work on a penalty system for those who constantly rage quit or try to cheat the rankings system in the game.
So far at least 30 players have been semi-punished from the video system and were offered one more chance as a warning before the real punishments happen.
Also working on a more severe punishment for those beyond any hope of ever following good sportsmanship rules.
"We will be punishing players on a weekly basis who have extremely high disconnect rates coupled with unrealistic win rates," Capcom said.
The developer also assured players that it will only punish the "worst offenders." If your Internet connection dropped because the power went out or something, you won't face any penalty. Capcom considers someone a "rage-quitter" if they have an 80-90 percent disconnect rate.
So what's the penalty for quitters? Pretty severe, it turns out. Capcom said it will reset a player's League Points for rage-quitting behavior.
"Moving forward, we will be making a sweep each week based on accounts in our system that have abnormally high disconnect rates (particularly at the end of the match) and will reset their League Points," it explained.

i know I was crazy for using the stick anyway, but I moved onto the d-pad when I took Cammy for a spin through survival mode. I was able to quickly get the knack of the difference between her cr.mk to cannon spike or spiral arrow on the pad. I could manage it on the analogue but there is just too much thumb movement required on DP movement, which I wasn't using with Chun Li.
Kalyx triaD
03-05-2016, 06:41 PM
I used to play SF4 entirely on thumbstick. Still play KI on it. But SFV and other 2D fighters is straight pad play. It really depends on input assistance and the overall speed of the game.
The Rogerer
03-05-2016, 06:49 PM
It was a bit of a necessity with that flipping 360 d-pad. I think the PS4 one is better than the previous Sony ones anyway.
Playing while I was starting out with the thumbstick was better, as I'd actually panic and press too hard on the d-pad so I'd tire my thumb out quickly. Now I've been practicing a few weeks I appreciate the shorter travel and can restrain myself
The stick is still viable I think, the trouble is that the shortcuts can make it more likely to accidently fire out your critical art with the DP. Like I could do what I said above with Cammy, just more shakey.
Please sort out survival mode. The hardest part is waking your brain up at round 27.

According to the NDP, the game managed to be the 7th best selling game last month in the US although doesn't count digital sales. Maybe Top 5 if included but probably not Top 3 considering the games in the list.

Capcom revealed the list of tweaks and stuff arriving with the next patch of the game. Challange Mode with better tutorials and a new Online Rematch Mode were some of the stuff revealed in the list.
Coming this month is the Challenge Mode, which will include something many new or more casual fans have been asked for: better tutorials.
According to the Capcom Unity blog, here’s what the game will be getting in that regard:
Beginner Tutorials: 12 lessons covering, movement, normal attacks, special attacks, V-System, throws, counter hits, chip/recoverable damage, etc.
Intermediate Tutorials: 11 lessons covering projectiles, invincibility frames, armor and armor break, recovery, cross-up attacks, anti-air options, etc.
Advanced Tutorials: 4 lessons covering back dashing, frame advantage/disadvantage, combo potential, button priority, etc.
Character Tutorials: 16 lessons covering each individual character.
Challenge Mode will also offer up Trials, which will task you with performing a serious of combos that range from “basic to pro” that’ll earn you Fight Money if completed.
When it comes to hopping online against opponents, the long-awaited upgrade to Battle Lounges will be coming as well, allowing for up to eight participants per lobby (with those players not active in a fight able to watch it as a spectator). The other neat addition—and something I wasn’t expecting—is a new Online Rematch Option. Now, after a Ranked Match is over, you’ll be able to challenge your opponent to a rematch—and if they accept, you’ll be switched to a best 2 out of 3 set instead.

The first round of content arrives next week, split between March 28th and March 30th. First, SFV grows beyond the prologue story and online matchmaking with the introduction of Challenge mode: a series of general and character-specific tutorials. Combo trials return in much the same form as in SFV‘s predecessor, adding yet another way to earn Fight Money.
Outside of the previously known Challenge mode, general improvements gleaned from both fans and internal testing constitute a new rematch option in matchmaking, where both players can agree to settle their feud in a best of three. Battle lounge improvements and a few bug fixes will come packaged with the first March update.
On March 30th, Alex arrives and you’ll get to buy him, as well as other character’s outfits, through the activated In-Game Shop. As a precaution, however, Capcom has decided to delay the launch of Zenny, the game’s exchange currency for real money, until they feel confident enough in their sometimes buggy servers to keep data secure. As a token for waiting, Alex will be available for free to all players as a trial period before the Zenny system is activated, meaning those short on in-game Fight Money can still play as the DLC character. Once Zenny is activated, Alex will no longer be free to those without a Season Pass and will have to be earned or purchased through the original means.
Speaking of Season Pass holders, they’ll be the only ones able to access the premium DLC costumes during the free trial period, and as an apology, a new free stage at a later date.
The first round of the Street Fighter V March update, which includes Challenge mode, launches March 28th. Alex and the in-game store unlocks on March 30th. The free DLC trial period is indefinite until further notice.

For a guy in his mid-50s, Guile is looking ripped! He's next in line to join the Street Fighter V roster and will arrive later this month as part of an update that also introduces the Air Force Base stage, addresses rage quitters, and touches up some of the game's matchmaking issues.
In terms of prices, Guile will be free to play till the in-game Zenny shop opens, the stage itself costs 70,000 Fight Money, and Season Pass owners are already covered for both.
As for quitters, Capcom is planning to roll out a system to "identify players who have high disconnect rates during matches," notify them via in-game message, and "lock them out of matchmaking for a period of time." Previously, the company penalized bad apples who had an "80-90% disconnect rate."

Apparently the lag problem on the PS4 has started to make competitive players begin to complain en masse to Capcom especially with EVO coming up soon.
Been a known or big issue since March but the community only started to get really upset or aware of how bad it is very recently especially with EVO 2016 being close.
Destructoid thinks the issue itself is a double edge sword for Capcom since leaving it unfixed is going to impact competitive play but if they fix it, might cause a situation where some players end up at a competitive disadvantage.

Company waited until the last day of the month to announce this month's character wouldn't arrive. New plan is to arrive around the same day as the game's Story mode.

Fucking awful.
How do you announce a delay the day something is expected? I repeat. Shittiest marketing team in gaming history.
How hard is it to show a screen shot or concept art the first week, game updates tje second, and a trailer the third, and a heads up ahead of time on delays?

Current plans is for both Ibuki and Story Mode to arrive by the end of June.
We can now expect Ibuki to arrive toward the end of June alongside the game's Story Mode update. "We'll have a blog with more info surrounding the June content and other topics the community has brought up in the next day or so," Capcom tweeted
