Would have been amazing if Ambrose pulled it off but at least the Rumble itself was better overall than the past couple ones.
Probably going to be Ambrose vs Reigns at Fastlane to determine who faces Triple H at Mania. Reigns wins since he's the one in a feud with the Authority and maybe Ambrose gives him another respect hug/handshake like at Summerslam.

Was actually a hot finish though. Clever booking in that they had to have known Orlando would be anti Roman as a smarky crowd, so have HHH throw out Ambrose would give him the desired heel reaction, and not people worshipping him for finishing Reigns at the end. Because he got a HUGE fucking pop for throwing out Reigns, if that closed the rumble it would just look really bad.

Thought that was a pretty sweet Rumble, actually. Aside from why the League of Nations wouldn't just roll Reigns back in to be eliminated.
Mr. Nerfect
01-24-2016, 11:05 PM
What people perceive as charisma these days is different. Triple H and Roman Reigns don't have that flavor. The crowd got majorly bummed when it was teased, and they weren't even a particularly smarkish crowd -- they wanted everything to be over.
Triple H and Reigns couldn't even get people into their shit in Reigns' homestate and where Triple H is recognised as the Father of NXT. This is not going to work. There was something eerily creepy about the way Michael Cole was announcing Triple H the winner too. Like he's some young cat. He also pretty cleanly eliminated Reigns and only really abused his power to the point where he was #30. He sort of earned the right to call himself champion. A bit weird.

Nah. They already have the easy booking.
Reigns wants his rematch and will be forced by the authority to beat the League of Nations in some matches to maintain his number one contender status and then will face hhh at wm32
Lesnar vs Wyatt is coming together.
Ambrose will be in a match with Ambrose, styles, Sami or some mixture of that.
Cena might make a come back or Orton and have matches as well.
And probably taker in a retirement match.
Not a great wrestlemania for the biggest crowd ever

Triple H vs. Roman Reigns
Bray Wyatt (and friends) vs. Brock Lesnar

Lesnar vs Reigns was the biggest realistic main event they could have done for WrestleMania given the unfinished business from last year.

I think wrestlemania is almost its own brand. More the whole show than the main event. The spectacle if you will.
HHH is not that much of a marquee name. Like people don't really give THAT much of a fuck about him. He could probably draw a bit more but not a huge amount. The Wrestlemania brand would be what draws.
Ambrose while maybe not being super mainstream has the potential to be part of the future of your company and you have to take chances on guys, even if they aren't the chosen one.
In saying that, nothing wrong with the finish tonight. Good royal rumble, I enjoyed it.

I am firmly not an every-week watcher, and pretty much only am excited about Rumble and WM at this point in my life
someone like Ambrose in the WM main event entices me to actually watch
HHH in 2016 as champion is probably the least-entertaining thing I can even think of right now
But you spend how much time around d wrestling on a daily basis? I highly doubt you will not be getting Mania now. The super casual fans is what Mania is about.

What do you propose for an Ambrose vs. Ambrose match? Mirror match, MK style?

Owen was never going to be the champ buddy.
Due to WWE only keeping Owen around to punish the Hart Family, Bret most particularly, for Bret saying 'no' to Shawn's gross creative naivete and incompetence then.
No WWF Championship shots for Owen was his individual punishment for Bret's 'no' as well.

Honestly, Ambrose wouldn't have been a good option either but at that point, I at least wanted the "HOLY FUCKING SHIT!" shocking moment. Even if he lost in at Fastlane or something.
Same feeling I had when Santino almost won the rumble and when he almost won the title in the Elimination Chamber. It wouldn't have made sense long term but that moment would have been surreal.

Neither Ambrose (at this point) or HHH are really marquee, but Ambrose has only upside, whereas HHH can probably offer a few more good matches but really nothing else. Beating him means nothing anymore cuz he's an old fuck and losing to him is a big MEH too.
Ambrose winning wouldn't really "fit" with what's been going on. He was an afterthought in the rumble until there was suddenly 2 people left. It would be cool, and fresh if it was as though they called some audible in creative meetings and had Ambrose COMPLETELY OUTTA NO WHERE win the title, even when while he was in the match he was kind of just "hanging in there" and seemed like he was just a background player. You can't act like a second like that wouldn't be super fun and show the companies ready to take a chance and build new stars. People love that shit and they love big reactions like Ambrose would have gotten for winning.

The ending was predictable. Glad that Dean got to be in the last two. Would have liked some consistency with Brock re-entering the ring and eliminating Bray; Brocks character would never take what they did to him lying down, he'd destroy everything.

Fantastic show. Undercard had 4 really fun matches. Owens/Ambrose was great. New Day always fun. Cool Big Ending. Even Kalisto/del rio delivered the goods. Huge pop for Sasha was great. The one great moment from the women's division since the 3 nxt women showed up.
Rumble match itself was the best since 2011. Owens eliminating Styles was a brilliant move. Couldnt have picked a better person to eliminate him.
People are going to complain about HHH winning, but it was the right choice. They aren't going to gamble on an unproven commodity. Not for WM. Not after Daniel Bryan ' s multiple injuries. Great show. Well done. Excited for tomorrow's Raw.

<font color=goldenrod>I just don't understand how anybody can think Triple H main eventing a WrestleMania in 2016 is a good thing. All it does is highlight how piss poor they've been at creating credible, believable main eventers. I know they've had a ton of injuries right now but holy balls, Triple H vs. Roman Reigns is about the most uninspiring main event I can imagine.
Add to that Lesnar/Wyatt in a match that should be hypothetically interesting but will invariably end with Wyatt losing the big match like he always does and Undertaker wrestling somebody like Kane or Braun Strowman in his final match and yeah...the prospects this Mania aren't looking good.
The undercard can still be really good, but that's not going to be enough to get me to sit through 3 hours of Raw every week.</font>

I enjoyed the Rumble match. The ending was predictable but the injuries have kind of tied their hands. A lot of excellent booking decisions like having AJ come out early, having Owens be the one to eliminate him, have Ambrose against HHH at the end instead of Reigns .
Sasha vs Charlotte at Mania will be pretty good.
Only match I just couldnt get into was Del Rio match but that is mostly because I find him extremely boring .
Owens/Ambrose stole the show with opening match and performances in the Rumble. That is what should have happened a few years ago when Bryan and Wyatt tore down the house in the opener.
Overall after last few Rumbles, this one was really good.

I liked this show a lot. Overall, one of the better rumbles of recent years.
Preshow tag match was pointless, since Swagger and Henry were both immediately eliminated from the rumble. If rumors are true about the Bubba singles push, then the dudleys should have won, with bubba eliminating d-von to start the split.
Last man standing match was fantastic. Early MOTY candidate. Great job by both guys. I think they went with the right choice here. Ambrose should have a good long reign, past Mania, so that he can do for the IC belt what Cena did for the US belt.
New Day as awesome as ever, and as uninterested as I am about the Uso's at this point, this was still a great tag match. Brilliant ending too. Kind of want Xavier to take over as tag champ, and give Big E a nice singles push.
I don't care for Del Rio. I don't dislike him, but no matter how hard I try, I just can't give a shit about him. He was ok in this match tho. Kalisto is amazing on the other hand, and is like 96' Mysterio. Just an absolute joy to watch. He made this match a lot of fun. Like the IC belt, I think this needs good long reign. The US has switched hands a few times now, and it's already losing all the luster that Cena built it up with. Kalisto going into every match as the underdog but continuously scraping by with his speed and agility would be a really good story, albeit an oft used one for smaller guys. But with the quality of matches he can deliver, I think it would work.
Great Divas title match. Very poor finish. Getting duped by Flair interference yet again makes Becky look weak. Not even having to use Natural Selection or the Figure 8 makes Becky look weak. Completely ignoring Becky and her emotional selling post match makes her look completely irrelevant. I wanted Becky to win, but I was okay with Charlotte winning as long as it was a very hard earned clean victory. At least that would keep Becky looking strong for a possible 3-way at Mania. Falling for more Ric Shennanigans just made her look dumb. Also, the whole kiss thing just seemed awkward. I don't know how to feel about all this until it plays out more. If they keep becky looking strong for a mania 3-way I'll be okay with all this, but if they just go with Sasha vs Charlotte, then they'll just be doing the same "Champion vs Challenger and everyone else is a jobber" format that has made the division shallow for decades.
The Royal Rumble.
I ain't even mad you guys. I thought it was a great rumble. AJ obviously was awesome. Wish he would have actually hit the Styles Clash on someone after teasing it so much. Saving it for his actual match debut I guess. Some great, fun moments. A few spots that could have been taken by someone more interesting, or another surprise entrant, but for the most part was satisfied with the entrants chosen.
As for HHH winning, I think it was the right move. Yeah, it was a little predictable but honestly, even when Ambrose, the IC title holder mind you, was in there, they did a fantastic job of making it seem like there was a slim chance they were going with him. Can honestly say I was never 100% certain who was winning. Brilliant idea eliminating Reigns before Ambrose.
As far as Mania is concerned, I'm not worried. It's true that HHH isn't a huge marquee name compared to his peers, but I also think people here are underestimating him as well. He's still a big deal to the average wrestling fan, and he has a certain presence, and aura that come from being a long time main eventer. A HHH wrestlemania match always has an epic feel that Bray or Ambrose wouldn't be able to replicate this early in their WWE career. The only other option given all the participants would have been Brock Lesnar. Like #1 Fan said, they have unfinished business, but I don't think most wrestling fans want to see the same main event back to back. At least not Reigns back to back. If it was someone everyone liked you might be able to get away with it, but Reigns is still getting too devisive reactions for it to be a reliable gameplan.
HHH vs Reigns isn't my first pick for the mania main event but given all the injuries, and who they had available they made the right choices. And again, the way they went about it was fantastic and had me on the edge of my seat. As for HHH vs Reigns itself, I'm looking forward to it. Say what you will as far as HHH being a draw, but I'm confident that the match itself will be good. HHH consistently delivers in big match enviornments and it doesn't get any bigger than this year's mania.
There is one more possibility, and that's a Cena vs Reigns main event. I actually would like to see that more than Reigns vs HHH/Lesnar. I'm not sure how they would go about it with Cena being injured, and HHH the current champ (Noid will respond to this with a huge explanation), but if Cena will be ready by Mania, then they should definitely do it.
So yeah. While not perfect enjoyed this show a lot. 4/5 Gobbldy Gookers.

He was suckering people in. Making them think he was hurt.

This Royal Rumble was a great damn show.
The opening match with Ambrose and Owens was brutal, fitting their styles so well. Even better was how Owens sold it in the actual Rumble match.
Tag team match was ehh.
Del Rio vs. Kalisto was really fun. Great to see them giving the ball to Kalisto to run with.
Divas match was really good. I need a Flair kissing Becky gif. Awesome match between the two. Sasha coming out and show no allegiance was fucking awesome.
It was a solid fucking Rumble match. We kind of all knew what was going to happen, but the AJ debut was fucking gold. Owens eliminating him was the best thing. Wish Ambrose would have won to set something unexpected up though.
It was damn good.

AJ obviously was awesome. Wish he would have actually hit the Styles Clash on someone after teasing it so much. Saving it for his actual match debut I guess.
I'm wondering if they'll let him use it at all because if they were going to, there was no reason for him not to hit it. It's a dangerous move and WWE are definitely going to be aware of it going wrong in the past. I thought at first it was maybe some people's "unfamiliarity" with the move in terms of taking it (Jericho etc) but when he got Neville up for it (who he's wrestled more than once) and still didn't hit it, it felt like it was just a tease because he has no other "recognized finish" and that once he actually wrestles, he'll use something new or different. Seeing him do that springboard forearm in a WWE ring was something tho.

I dunno They teased it too much not to use it at all. Cole even mentioned it by name. Like I said, I think they didn't want to give everything away on Styles, and are saving it for his raw debut or something. It's not a bad idea.
and total fantasy booking but if Daniel Bryan was cleared this past week in Pittsburgh and they held him out of the Rumble for whatever reason, wouldn't it be just delightful if he showed up on RAW and they go with him as AJ's first PPV opponent

yeah maybe. It just doesn't seem convenient enough for WWE. He's never ever been in a company like WWE where he's one of the smallest guys, he instantly looked "normal" next to Reigns and even Tyler Breeze. Simple fact is is that you can't sell his finish to an audience when he can't do it to like 50% of the roster. I mean, look how awkward it looked when they teased it with Roman. If he uses it, I think it's more of a "special attraction" thing where you see it every now and again.

I havent watched a PPV in about 3 years But I would pay for that in a heartbeat.
At this stage I cant see myself buying WM this year again. Makes me a bit sad tbh :wavesad:

I really enjoyed the show.
Great undercard and the people on the undercard all looked good.
Would I have preferred someone else to win? personally yes, but as with all Rumbles (and most PPV's) there are always very few people you expect to win so I'm neither surprised or disappointed.
With some of the feuds that look like they're coming out of the Rumble (and some fantasy booking on my part), I feel this is the year the "special attractions" and veterans should be used to put over the new talent.
Bray over Brock
Reigns (with Rock) over HHH (with Vince)
Ambrose over John Cena
Owens over Taker
Kalisto over heel Y2J (it's clear they want to push Kalisto)
Throw in a MitB ladder match with AJ Styles winning after interference from a debuting Bullet Club and you've got some new, unseen storylines.

I imagine they'll probably just have Styles do the Bloody Sunday with the Styles Clash being used for special occasions.

I've got no clue how they fit Kalisto and The Undertaker into WrestleMania. There's a sentence I never thought I'd say.
Do they pair up Taker & Kane to take on The Wyatt Family? Does Taker go off with Sheamus -- a reasonably big guy that can work and they want to plug into the main event scene? Do they just do Taker vs. Kane for the feels?
Kalisto could lose the US Title to someone on the Road to WrestleMania, but provided he doesn't, who is their best bet to put him against? Do they send in someone like Neville or AJ Styles to get the best match possible out of him? Does Stardust plug in here as a great character performer to bounce Kalisto off? Do they do some sort of Mask vs. Hair Match against Del Rio? Pay Rey Mysterio a lot of money to come back? Toss a bunch of guys into a Ladder Match?

I'm not convinced that John Cena is going to miss WrestleMania to be honest.

* Triple H (c) vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
* Brock Lesnar vs. Bray Wyatt
* The Undertaker vs. John Cena
* Charlotte (c) vs. Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch for the Divas Championship
* Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Chris Jericho for the Intercontinental Championship
* The New Day (c) vs. The Usos vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. Mark Henry & Jack Swagger
* Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn
* The League of Nations vs. AJ Styles, Dolph Ziggler, Kalisto & Neville
* Kickoff: Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
Or something like that.

Can anyone else see them adding a Hell in a Cell stipulation to Triple H vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania? You know -- just to give it that extra oomph?

If Roman Reigns wins, he's the WWE World Heavyweight Champion and The Authority disappear.

<font color=goldenrod>What made the ending of the match fall flat in my opinion is that they completely forgot the context of what was supposed to be happening. Triple H comes out, and do they sell it as the COO abusing his power to his own nefarious ends? Do they speculate about the fact that the most powerful man in the company drew the best number? Do they talk about how it's obviously a set-up? No, Michael Cole continues his bizarre gimmick for this show of being utterly obsessed with how many Royal Rumbles someone's been in. Rather than all of the storyline-centric comments that I just listed, Michael Cole's reaction to Triple H entering the Rumble is "HE'S BEEN IN NINE ROYAL RUMBLES!".
I expected they'd play up some dissension between Reigns and Ambrose on the "every man for himself!" front, and was genuinely surprised that they didn't, and by the manner of Reigns getting eliminated. That was fun. Ambrose wrestling Triple H was sloppy as hell, though, really ugly stuff.
But now, let's go back to context. Why was Triple H in the match? His end-goal wasn't to become WWE Champion, it was to stop Roman Reigns from becoming champion. Anyone else, practically, would have been preferable. Given the match's earlier history of outside interference, it's clear that Triple H could have screwed over Reigns without entering the match himself. Even if you accept that Triple H had to enter the match to attain his goal, when his target, and only real concern, is Roman Reigns, then why bother dicking around with Dolph Ziggler? And - context again - when we've just seen The Miz sit outside the ring and pick his spots, why wouldn't Triple H do the same? And then, once Reigns is out, why wouldn't he just get back in and help his best friend? You could argue fair play, but surely it's acceptable revenge for the guy who almost certainly orchestrated an assault on Reigns specifically designed to take him out of the match?
So what we end up with is, because of the announcers' inability to sell the story of the feud, and the context-blind booking, Triple H winning clean. We're supposed to think that Triple H screwed Reigns out of the match and be chomping at the bit for Reigns to get revenge, but Triple H didn't do anything wrong. He entered the match as a legal entrant, and eliminated Reigns well within the rules of the match. Not only that, but Triple H was returning from injury and eliminating the guy who put him on the shelf - that's a babyface performance. On top of that, Reigns sat out half the match only to come in later to try and win - admittedly through no fault of his own (arguably - he was capable of walking out) - and that was something we had, only minutes earlier, been encouraged to resent The Miz doing. Context.</font>

Great post. :y:
Triple H wasn't playing slimy boss here. And you're right -- he didn't need to win the Royal Rumble to achieve his goal. Arguably, given what they obviously plan to do for WrestleMania, Bray Wyatt should have won this thing.
Mr. Nerfect

And I'm not saying that as a huge Bray Wyatt mark either. It just would have made sense given the context of everything.

* Bray Wyatt (c) vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
* Triple H vs. Roman Reigns in a Street Fight
That works better than what they're going with, in my opinion.

The last paragraph really hits it on the head.
When Reigns was escorted out for "injury" that did it for me, I walked away and didn't care that HHH was going to win. The highlight of the rumble for me was Styles.

The Rumble was OK but the main plot points they wanted to book were stupid as fuck. Vince doesn't learn 17 years later that you eliminate someone before they're taken to the hospital. They don't want Brock to be an aggressive monster anymore even if he faces injustice and the one time they turned a crowd that was booing Reigns to one that cheers him was when he was pissed off and destroying the Authority. So when he's thrown out he just sits there and looks sad rather than beat up HHH and help his buddy or even beat up HHH after he wins.

Yea, I would NOT want to be on the receiving end of anything Lesnar, let alone a big flying knee at full speed.
He hits with such an unmatched intensity, it was very noticeable last night when he was shoulder to shoulder with the other jabronis.

I liked the show, but my only problem was why would Vince have The League Of Nations destroy Reigns at ringside (illegally) and then just leave him there instead of destroying him, rolling him back in and having someone easily throw his lifeless body over the ropes to officially eliminate him..... I'm certain no one in the crowd or watching bought that Reigns wouldn't be coming back, just lazy booking in my eyes.... LON & Vince had enough heat.....

she was never in a position where she had to do it to somebody bigger than her, she'd never "famously" hurt people with it, she had way more "political stroke" and WWE, even 5/6 years ago, was a completely different company to what it is now. We should find out tonight if it's going to be his finish or not I'd think
