Just caught up on the most recent episode, and I am completely blown away. Rich Swann is awesome, that second match I could barely pay attention to...but Jack Gallagher is absolutely fantastic, and I was marking out pretty much the entire time during Gargano/Ciampa. Holy shit. I've been a Ciampa fan since I saw him in ROH, but he's next level type shit with me now. One of my favorites overall. I'm DEFINITELY a Gargano fan now since I've seen him be able to get some shit in. That should have been the final. I can't see anything topping it.

Liked Jack Gallagher a lot.

Disliked Zack Sabre Jr a lot.

Just started to watch this with the last matches of the first round. Gargano/Ciampa was insane, no idea how the match didn't end with that powerbomb/back stabber spot.

Gentleman Jack was great to watch, really different from everyone else on offer. It's what the Vaudevillian's gimmick should be more like.

Just caught up, had the last two episodes to watch. Zach Sabre Jr. Didn't impress me all that much but it could've just been the guy he was working with. The Bollywood Boys being in the tournament gives me hope that they'll do the Dusty Rhodes Classic just like this. Thought Noam Dar over sold a lot and was a little sloppy but the right choice to win. I liked Jason Lee a lot better than I did Ho Ho Lun so I wish they would have swapped places in the tournament. Jack Gallagher match was good but I wanted the other dude to win and thought he had it after that power bomb. Ciampa vs Gargano was stiff as hell and I loved it. Wasn't a fan of the finish though. Really wanted Ciampa to win and also thought he had it after the powerbomb/backbreaker move he pulled off. Second round looks great, I love this tournament.

It's still another 6 weeks to the final. It's not taped yet, so it could potentially be on Raw at least to introduce the cruiserweights.

Yeah, plus the set up they have looks better than Raw or Smackdown. I love everything about this tournament. The ring, the commentary, the talent, it's just got a special feel to it and I feel like the finals being on Raw or SS would take that away.

Instant reaction: Ibushi / Alexander is everything I've heard rumored and replaces Zayn / Nakamura as my match of the year.

Crowd chanting "please sign Cedric!" afterward and Triple H coming out to clap him on the back, give a "Yeah, sure, alright," .shrug, and retrieve him is also probably one of the coolest moments of the year.

Very impressive for a dude I've never really paid any attention to or had any investment in before this tournament

That Alexander vs. Ibushi match was fucking brilliant. Best match of the tournament so far.

Also, Daniel Bryan and Mauro Ranallo are probably the best announce team the WWE has had since J.R and King in the Attitude Era, maybe even better, given time. Both of these guys have an encyclopedic knowledge of wrestling and moves, and they both do a great job of sounding excited and invested in the product, without coming across as stoic and scripted like on Raw. Plus, it's refreshing their "real sport" style of announcing, where they can openly discuss CMLL, NJPW and generally acknowledge that there are other promotions outside of WWE.

Plus, Marallo calling a "Fujiwara Armbar"... can't remember the last time we heard a move called like that on Raw.

#BROKEN Hasney
08-11-2016, 07:56 AM
So I'm just doing some maths with this week having 2 matches and next week having 3, it'll be another 3 the week after, then 2 matches a week for the quarters. That takes it to 9 weeks and the 10th week is a 2 hour live special, meaning we'd have the semis and finals in the same night.

Plus maybe one or two other matches. Would be good if it's some guys that were knocked out and give them a chance to steal the show. Might book the day after that off work and watch it live.

Agreed. For me as well.

As for the commentating this week, while the content was still "good", it did get on my nerves a bit. Felt like Daniel Bryan said "OH MY GOSH" way too mny times, and that Mauro slipped back a bit into using his overly fake sounding radio announcer voice too much.

That's a good and valid opinion. I usually way over value story most of the time, but I feel like Ibushi and Alrxander were able to tell a pretty impressive story in the match itself, and I'm a sucker for moments like the thing with Hunter at the end (i.e. Ryder's mania win). Commentary definitely helped with this, positioning Alexander as a guy throwing everything he had against a guy he's idolized.

Both pretty amazing matches, I guess I'm just biased towards "guy living his dream" kind of moments.

Not sure how the brackets are laid out because I'm too lazy to look, but I would have loved Tajiri vs Kendrick semi-final or something. I think there's a great story there with two grizzled veterans doing everything they can for their last shot, against each other.

Forgot about even making any sort of predictions on this thing....

On one side I see a semi-finals of Akira Tozawa vs. Zack Sabre Jr. Neither of which I was huge on, but that is what I see happening. I'd put Zack Sabre into the finals I guess, even though I liked Tozawa better. (Which is to say I didn't really care for ZSJ at all in his match)

On the other side I see the semi-finals getting down to Johnny Gargano and Kota Ibushi. I know Kota is probably "their choice", but I'd put Johnny Gargano over and put him into the finals vs. ZSJ. Gargano would then win the tournament.

Ibushi prob gonna win the whole thing, though. Probably still against ZSJ in the finals.

Dark One
08-11-2016, 05:33 PM
Gargano probably has a big chance to win if Ibushi doesn't want to stick around. I think Tozawa will probably look better next week since he's not going against Jamoke #7 like the first round.

Lock Jaw Fact: I once edited together a TYSON DUX hype pack for a local fed.... got some dude to make music for it, and randomly mixed Dux's speech into the footage like he'd say "I'm Tyson Dux" and then I'd cut to some quick action/training shots of him and you would hear "T-T-T-TYSON DUX!!" with like an echo.

It was pretty terrible editing.

#BROKEN Hasney

So I'm predicting an all-English left side of the bracket. I don't think this has been fully booked in advance and guys that impress have had a chance to advance more than they were supposed to, so Jack Gallagher V ZSJ in that semi, which should be damn fun.

ZSJ will probably have to face HoHo Lun after the only match I'm not interested in, HoHo V Dar, has HoHo winning. I'd be happy with any of Metalik, Tozwa or Gallagher making it to the semis though.

On the other side, Johnny Wrestling V Ibushi. Hnnng. And that's after Johnny V Rich Swann quarter finals and either Nese or Kendrick V Ibushi.

This is assuming that they get who they want under contract though. I think the winner will be someone they sign, so Ibushi or ZSJ are probably the favourites if they do sign, but they might book an outsider yet.

For filler matches on the CWC final, I'm hoping they have a 3rd place playoff. Gargano Vs Gallagher/Metalik/Tozawa would be fun.

Believe so and was speculated him winning in Round 1 was only due to the WWE giving something back to China as part of the announcement of them entering the market.

Before the Dar-Sihra match, the Lun-Daivari match was seen as being the worst match for the first round.

Nese seems like WWE's ideal "cruiserweight." Can pass as a heavy hitter with most people, but keep up flying-wise with anybody. Although, I'm guessing he probably looks less physically imposing when he's across from someone half a foot taller.

ROH is a shell of its former self. I think delirious has generally been pretty terrible as a booker. Unless the new Japan guys are involved, it's pretty hard to make it through a whole show. Even though they have a lot of great talent, they all seem more exciting when wrestling elsewhere.

I'm gonna nitpick..I have no problem with TJP winning but I feel it's the most insulting thing they've done in the whole tourney to blame Gargano losing on the knee injury from the match at Takeover that was 6 weeks from happening when they taped the 2nd round back in July. Most everyone knows this was taped well in advance..They knew what they were doing and they could have just had the Gargano match in the first night of the 2nd rd 2 weeks ago to avoid the conflict.

Other than that tonight's ep was solid.

Predictions for 4th rd are Tozawa vs ZSJ and Ibushi vs Swann.

Ongoing quarter finals spoliers:

Dark Match:

*Hideo Itami defeated Ernest Alexander with the GTS.

Quarter Finals:

*The Quarter-Finals have 30 minute time limits, extended from the previous 20 minute.

*Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Noam Dar with an armbar submission.

*Gran Metallik defeated Akira Tozawa with The Metallik Driver.

Each match was very good.

Dark Match:

*Cedric Alexander defeated Oney Lorcan with the Lumbar Check. Good match.

*Tony Nese & Drew Gulak defeated Lince Dorado & Kenneth Johnson when Nese pinned Johnson with a 450 splash.

Quarter-Finals:

*TJ Perkins defeated Rich Swann by submission with a modified figure four leglock. Perkins worked on Swann's knee, which appeared to buckle during the bout.

Dark Match: The Bollywood Boyz defeated Sean Maluta & Ariya Daivari after Maluta was pinned following a top rope elbow.

Kendrick V Ibushi: Kendrick won via count out, bnut it seems more that Ibushi forgot it was a 10 count in USA. Regal restarted the match and it's ongoing (WONDER WHO WINS?!?!)

Ibushi wins OBVZ Crowd was chanting for Kendrick for like three minutes straight. Then DB came down into the ring and hugged him. People continued to chant for him for another three minutes or so. He seemed very emotional. Very much like the Cedric moment.

Love that final moment. Hope they keep it in ala Cedrick <3

Kendrick for IC Champion to defend Bryan's honor.

Mr. Nerfect
09-01-2016, 07:21 AM
Miz beats Ziggler at Backlash to keep the belt and continue Ziggler's mental break and self-defeat. Miz then gets in Bryan's face on SmackDown "Am I a coward now? Huh? Am I?" and suddenly through the crowd comes Kendrick, who beats on Miz and puts him in the Bully Choke. This deranged looking man looking man stares down at the IC Title. Security rushes out to get Kendrick, but Bryan tells them to back off. Kendrick just stares them all down. Bryan says they don't appreciate they're looking at THE Brian Kendrick and THE #1 Contender for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Kendrick then brushes past all the security guards on his way to the back.

Heading into No Mercy, they air videos showing Kendrick's transformation from cute young man that had his first match against Daniel Bryan:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/bit-photos/large/4592983.jpeg

To his original run in the WWE, where he'd have the balls to antagonize some of the WWE's top stars:

To his run as a Tag Team Champion, which stood as a record until just this year:

http://www.allwrestlingsuperstars.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Brian-Kendrick-tna-superstar-3.jpg

To his transformation into one of the more devious minds in sports entertainment:

Kendrick wins the WWE Intercontinental Championship at No Mercy for the first time in his career. There is much happiness. Many tears. Daniel Bryan comes out to hug his buddy. On SmackDown, we meet Brian Kendrick again...this time freshly shaven and looking younger. He's achieved his moment. He proved that he can be more than an interim heavyweight champion in the WWE. Kendrick beats The Miz to retain the belt and then moves onto his next challenge...Heel Ziggler.

Metalik-Tozawa and Kendrick-Ibushi matches were really great this week.

I'm changing my official pick for this tournament. Given the departure of Del Rio, Kalisto not really catching on like they would have hoped, Sin Cara having been pummeled into the ground and Andrade Almas being kind of flat -- I can honestly see Gran Metalik taking the whole thing.

Evil Vito
09-04-2016, 08:52 PM
Kalisto not catching on feels like WWE's fault. The guy has all the tools, I just don't think WWE know how to create a Hispanic star.

Mr. Nerfect

Oh yeah, I wouldn't blame it all on Kalisto. He had those heat vacuum feuds with Alberto Del Rio and Ryback as US Champion, but I don't think he really endeared himself as a guy to carry a belt. When he comes back from injury, I'd like to see him work with a guy like The Miz (as long as he isn't still IC Champion). He needs an opponent that can draw attention to their program and make it feel like something is on the line and that Kalisto winning means something for his overall direction in wrestling.

Not really feeling TJ Perkins as a Final Four type guy in this competition. Would have gone with either Gargano or Swann instead.

Then again liked Tozawa a lot more than Metalik but him losing made sense since WWE didn't want more than one nation in the Final Four and Ibushi is the bigger name. Also made the Final Four as a showcase for each different style in wrestling (Puro, US indie, British, and Lucha).

Ciampa and Gargano are tagging against someone. I don't think it's The Revival, but it might be. They mentioned it on NXT.

Neat

I'm thinking everyone who is watching Expects Ibushi to take this and the WWE are going to go in another direction because its too obvious.

I honestly don't think they knew about the Raw cruiserweight division before starting this tournament either, so they might have originally been going with Ibushi and now want to give the rub to a signed guy.

You can put ONE of the dudes in the finals. Just have your home guy win.

That's what I was saying, I might not have worded it well.

I mean they don't have to put over both gran metallic and tj as signees.

You could put over one signee and one of the others into the finals. Even though the guys are elaving they are still big names to put your eventual signed winner over. That way the inner eBay both sabre and Ibushi.

If WWE wants the winner to be the "face" of the division right away, Perkins probably is going to win it all considering the news and rumors regarding the other 3 guys.

Considering the guys Perkins already went through, beating Ibushi would instantly add more star power for him. Wouldn't even matter who he'd face for the finals.

Rumored to be a part timer for the division due to being in the process of moving himself and his family to the US. Could take anywhere between a few weeks to a couple of months.

They do have the extra hour to work with sort of like what WCW did when Nitro was 3 hours. One of the very small benefits of RAW being 3 hours.

To be fair, Ibushi couldn't make up his mind until very recently if the dirtsheets are correct. Sabre was more of certain guys backstage not liking him than him pulling an Ibushi with contract talks.

Think Ibushi is the same in Japan where he never stays in one place for long.
