Creative could have done a way better job but he really wasn't the best choice to actually revolve a division around at least for its debut. Winning the CWC tournament was great for him but maybe they should have held off crowning an actual champion for the division until later.

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with it, but it's not a good character to be introduced as. Had he been around for a year or so and swapped to it? Sure, no problem. But you're not getting a dude over with some kitschy shit entrance and painfully contrived video game references alone.

Put a guy in there with a fairly bad-ass if generic theme, have him fight hard, and pop in some references to him wanting to be a role model? He's at least got a fighting chance (and two hands).

No, it's not toning them down. It's the lack of any meaning behind anything they do. None of it matters. They even mentioned on commentary "a lot of these guys were in a similar match last night." If the casual fan cares enough to tell them apart, they have not been given enough to invest in.

I'll give you that them having the same fucking matches as everybody else is a problem, but everybody has the same fucking match, so it doesn't fucking matter to anyone's specific detriment -- they all lose. The CWC had drama, stories, wins and losses mattered (if you lost you went home), and it took time to explain who each participant was and why they were there. The matches were important, given that it is the method stories are told inw wrestling, but they are secondary to the idea that there is a story they were telling.

I didn't hear what Charlotte said first, but then Bayley came out. To her credit, she got a "Bayley" chant and played off it well. But then shit went to hell real fast.

"I love you, I respect you. Remember that brutal Hell in a Cell you just had last night? Let's forget that it is a grudge match for a second, I really respect what you girls achieved in that dead gimmick."

Charlotte used to be so good at projecting a real bad-ass vibe about herself. It came through when she said "You'll never be me," but given that she was fighting back tears it gets diluted a lot.

Bayley said something nice about how wonderful it was the women are achieving such great things, and instead of no-selling it like her dialogue was calling for, she was clearly moved and delivering verbiage like "You're nothing, Bayley" with a look of "Gosh girl, I love you" in her eyes. It was terrible.
