Proper 2D of course and PC means rosters are going to be easier than ever to download. Fuck. Yes.
No official release date for the full version, but Steam Earl.Access begins in Q2 this very year. That's only months away!
They gotta test that netcode. That's right motherfucker, online play for the first time.

New details in Famitsu
- Fire Pro Wrestling World will support Steam Workshop (!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
- At launch there will be over 80 new moves at launch above Returns; more moves will be released post-launch as DLC, presumably like Fire Pro Wrestling D did. I assume this means free moves, again, like FPD.
- There can be online simming with AI-only matches. Each AI player can be spectated by an actual player, as well as there being a dedicated spectator system planned for the title.

'Gameplay would be retained' is easier typed than done though. They go lower in graphic quality so they can use the memory or whatnot on gameplay.

I promise you that is not the case. Gameplay/combat engine is almost never an issue enough to encroach graphics engine and vice versa. Yes everything comes down to memory, but actual gameplay code takes a shockingly minimal amount of memory. This is how those Halo demakes retain Halo gameplay within authenic 16bit memory limits; consoles back then could easily do overshield, bullet count gameplay - nobody thought to do it.
No way would a 3D visual engine affect gameplay. Not even a little.

The gameplay doesn't translate well to 3D. They experimented with it before and also put out that turd on 360.
You have to remember that these games generally don't sell well which would be the case in any unlicensed wrestling game. I think since Fire Pro D, they've pretty much all used the same engine and built on it. With it releasing on Steam and day and date with the Japanese version, this one has a shot and maybe they'll look at making a King of Colosseum sequel which is their 3D series on the PS2 with mechanics that worked for that environment.
In an ideal world, you want both because they play so differently, but I totally understand why they would bring back Fire Pro, at least first.

Wrestlers will inch their way towards the ropes for a rope break while in a submission. EDIT: Using R1 button to move towards the ropes
All of the special skills from Returns are back.
Matsumoto says that this is a complete rehaul of the game's code
they'll be adding a sliding ring-in animation when you run down the entrance ram
They remark on the ringside table, and that steel chairs can still be used (and they will eventually break, so keep an eye on its condition).
There's a Mission Mode that is apparently going to be a sort of mode that requires you to finish matches under certain conditions, and that of course there will be trophies related to it.
The last part... I think might be talking about a versus mode where players match up their own creations and see who has the best CPU Logic?
According to the bottom of the article, they say current developmental status is 50%.

Missed all the announcement hype on here. Been following news on it though. Haven't been this hyped for a game in a really long time. Since, well Fire Pro Returns.
Some stuff I don't see in here:
-Codebreaker and Alabama Slam confirmed
-check movelist during a match
-match ratings coming back (fuck yeah)
-director apologized for lack of updates and said he'd make it up to us mid may. So possibly a major update next month.
So psyched for this. Gonna have to geg a new laptop probably, but thats fine. Bought and modded a ps2 in 2005 just for fpr, and played it for over a decade. Will definitely get my moneys worth over this.

Short arm clothesline is already in as well though. They might just be redoing some moves for the extra theatrics. I'd guess most top WWE guys finishers will be in anyway.

Short arm clothesline isn't the rain maker. "turn-around" is what differentiates it. From what we know, they're just importing all the moves from fpr.
There are a few moves that could definitely dtand to be reanimated though. Lookin at you, samoan drop.

Since I've never played the fire pro series, can someone explain the actual gameplay and why it's so good? I get the customization and all which seems to be what everyone loves but I'm wondering how it all fits in a match. Like, I'm assuming it's not a button masher but can you pull moves off like you did in the n64 games (or I guess some of the svr games) where you weak or strong grapple then "up and B" to do a move or whatever. Also assume it isn't a mortal kombat / street fighter fighting game where you have to memorize a dizzying number of combos to pull off a move.

So the grapple is done by people just walking into each other and then it's timing based on when they touch in the grapple. First to get the timing gets the move. However, to hit big moves, you have to wear them down. So you have a light attack, medium, heavy and special and if you go for a heavier attack, it'll be reversed but occassionally, a heavier attack can just sneak through. Each of the light, medium and heavies can be mixed with a direction for different moves too. That's the basic part of grappling, but it can work with strikes too. The way that works out is the match actually plays out like a real wrestling match compared to the crap you see on 2k.
Combine that with an insane amount of customisation and AI sliders so you can make the creations act exactly how you want them too makes it a great tool for CPU V CPU match simulations as well.

Yeah the biggest diff from most games is like in real life grapple is nuetral. So when you approach another player grapple is innitiated. the moment conact is made you must press you command. Who ever is most precise wins, tie results in test of strength.
Strikes require skill and are a big turn off for many. they require you to know the point on contact and you need to judge your location to theirs or you will miss. There is a learning curve and it exists for each strike. Its not bad once you've made some effort.

The grappling is timing based. Move into your opponent and they'll go into a lock up animation and you hit the button at the right moment to win tne grapple. The gameplay is praised for a number of reasons.
Despite being a 2d sprite game, the match pacing is more realistic than most 3d games. You have to work from weak to medium to strong grapples, with the wrestlers getting morw fatigued as the match goes on. Reversals are automatic, based on wrestlers stats and how much damage they've taken. You could go for your biggest move right at the start of the match, but it will probably be reversed. But it might not. So you have a risk/reward system right there.
The CPU logic is superior to any other wrestling game. You can determine how often a wrestler uses each individual move, as well as other details like how often they use weapons and how well they work in a tag team. You can essentially program them to wrestle exactly like you want. That's why simming cpu vs cpu is so popular with this series.

Only a few details from the conference
– The developers were talking about how they pitched a new Fire Pro game 7 times and were turned down each time.
– The team makes very clear they had nothing to do with the awful XBox 360 game.
– None of the defaults are based on real wrestlers.
– All moves can be renamed.
– Not sure on the final amount of new moves, but close to 100.
– MP3s for entrance music.
– Blood stays on the mat.
– At least 8 people in the ring at once.
– There’s going to be another conference June 21st.

Some info today, in a 4gamer article about the May 31st event...
- A picture shows the game with a dark blue interface. Does that mean we can change the interface? I mean I'd be happy, I wasn't looking forward to staring at red for hours and hours...
- They had to increase the number of seats at the event. Sold-out+!
- Workshop-like structure confirmed for PS4.
- Two lobbies for online play: A "Pro Wrestling" lobby for those who want to work their matches, and a "Cement" lobby for competitive matches. FYI, "Going Cement" means a match that devolves into a shoot.
- Fire Pro was okay'd because Steam has become a good outlet for Spike Chunsoft, sales wise. He tried to get it going 7-8 times in the last 9 years.
- Matsumoto said there was more flexibility with the new layers system than there was in Fire Pro R.
Obviously the big new is PS4 getting an in game sharing system. That was a bit up in the air given how small the studio is.
Also, GREAT decision having two seperate types of lobbies. I wasn't planning on playing online since I like working matches, but now that there is a lobby specifically for it, I'm all in.

Its been suspected, but its good to have confirmation.
I should note that edits take up a miniscual amount of space. You could fit around 100,000 edits in 1gb. Saving entrance themes for the wrestlers will take up much more space than the edits themselves.

One big down grade is that color gradients are preset and can no longer be customized. This is actually kind of a big hit, because you could do lots of cool things by messing with color gradients.
For example, on top is preset gradients, but the bottom mask has a customized gradient.

Director Tomozou tweeted that you can drag-and-drop layers to easily re-order them. In FPR, you would have needed to manually change each layer (and the palettes that go with them) to something new to get the same effect.

Layers are good. While on the surface it sounds like a downgrade, layers often allow for a good deal of customization. Most times, unfortunately, it takes a lot more work.

Devs said they were considering adding gradient editing. Was never really worried, as they've seemed very open and receptive to feedback, and I figured that would be one of the first issues addressed. Additional layers + gradient editing is going to be amazing.
Also said they want to add more priority slots which is another big request.
Finally, they also sais theyre throwing around the idea of having weak submissions that only do damage and wont get a tap out. Would change for mma matches, where anythingncan get a win.

They seemed very receptive to the ideas of the chat, like more match modes, a apid DLC story mode, logo editor and possibly more than 8 guys. They'll need to find ways to monetise it going forward if they do it, but I do get the feeling they view this as a platform rather than just leave it up to community after Early Access.

Returns had a bug where in tag matches, if a guy gets tired and beat up enough, he won't tag out.

Thats what I'm doing. Gonna get an 800-1,000 dollar laptop and throw firepro on there along with all the emulators and roms out there, and use it as a firepro/old scool games machine.

There is a tutorial mission mode for new people too, so really, get on it.
Just had a landmine deathmatch between Nakamura and AJ and it was so fucking good. The fighting spirit got triggered and they beat the shit out of each other until AJ hit a superkick which I thought was the end of it, then Nak got up and hit his own superkick and both men collapsed. Nak shrugged when I missed the phenomenal forearm, which was fantastic, but I broke his neck and killed him with a critical on the first Styles Clash. Sorry, bub.

I've noticed that the unlockable moves are a lot of the batshit insane moves that were unlocked in X Premium and DLC for Dreamcast. Like the version of the muscle buster where he jumps off the screen to hit it.

Fix for lag during character select.
First Go to your Library > FPW World. Right click on the the game and go to Properties, there is a checkbox that will disable Steam overlay, uncheck this box. Yes, it sucks if you want to use the Workshop in-game, but I'd rather be able to play the game without any lag.
Second requires you to play the game. Once open, pull up your Task Manager, Goto the Details Tab (on windows, find it if you're on a Mac, as I am unsure what that is on Mac PCs), right click on the FPW World game, you should see an option to "Set Priority" with an arrow, hover over it and set the Priority of the game to "High."

Notes from the live twitter chat with director matsumoto
Notes from the stream:
(I was writing this as it was going on so please take it with a grain of salt. Maybe not be 100% accurate or exactly what they said)
- Patch tomorrow
- They're talking about redoing the UI since they rushed it with their small team to get it ready in time.
- Resolution options are coming soon.
- They really have no budget and a tiny team. Like one thing they're frustrated with is slow loading on wrestling select screen. That's due to it reading all the data and constructing the wrestler right there.
- 10 people on the team. Everybody's focused on bug fixes at the moment.
To the list:
- Adding ladders and tables. Free standing table = incredibly difficult to do. Move animation much more likely. Ladders not actually addressed by director or Kyle.
- More post match options. Super interesting but they want to do a mode that takes better use of that stage direction. That's what they're looking into.
- Asymmetrical edits. Director wants to do it but the character doesn't have a left or right side so it'd be extremely difficult to implement. No due to the budget. Not a top priority unless they sell a million copies overnight. lol
- Stance on mods. They haven't thought about it. But if you want to get under the hood, go for it. They can't be hands on at the moment with modders.
- Skirts as attire Very difficult to do. 2D doesn't work. Polygons are possible but it still doesn't look right. But people really want it so they're still trying.
- Glasses They're working on it.
- More fantasy parts like anime heads Very possible.
- Joshi They want to add more female parts and female stances. Long hair, past shoulders, has the same issue as skirts. You'd need two parts and they don't connect well.
- More Parts Filters It's coming.
- More selling on moves They like the idea of people selling moves more and the director is thinking how to implement it.
- Story Mode Director talked forever. Story mode is a biggest request. Two ways they can proceed. One would be a straight scenario mode but, if they go that route, they could only use the default fake wrestlers. The second way to be to give you a toolbox to make your own story mode. If they go the second way, it'd be much further down the line. If they go the first route, Sudo51 could come back to write a new scenario but again that'd be way down the road.
- GM/Promoter Mode They are adding a promotion mode. Inspired by the GBA version. That would be the base. They want to build off that. They haven't actually started work on it yet so it's coming to be much further down the line.
- Custom MP3s Both entrances and in game. Early/Mid August. They can maybe add custom mp3 support in menus down the line.
- Working with real life promotions No unless promotions come to them.
- The problem with weak submissions ending a match They don't want to mess with the core gameplay of Fire Pro. So set your CPU logic to not use weak submissions, that way a match won't end on them.
- Entrance gown and belts Gowns, tricky like skirts and long hair. They could create an asset to drape them only when entering. In match, not really possible. Entrance belts. Wearing the belts or draped over the shoulder, very difficult. They could let you carry it in your hand or use it as a weapon in match.
- Pre-match attacks Very difficult. They're thinking about it but it probably isn't happening.
- Merchandise They licensed it out to a different company/store. So they're working with that company on possibly offering international shipping but no promises.
- Gradients If they wanted to create that in World, they'd have to make it it's own part. It'd be more difficult than making Story Mode or GM Mode so it's not happening. Sorry.
- Transparency on layers Much more possible. They'll look into it.
Without director:
- Kickstarter and Patreon Doesn't work. Kickstarter is more trouble than it's worth. Same with Patreon.
- Paid DLC Possible if they sell enough base copies of the game.
- Mac/Linux port No. Japanese developers aren't use to working with them. They're just focused on PC.
- New moves It's really hard to track new move requests since they're sprinkled everywhere. Thread at FPWArena is the best since they have youtube links and a master list. That way Kyle can just show Director what they want.
- CPU Logic New players don't really get it. Great guides on the internet on how to use it. Adding anything is a massive amount of work. Kyle's pressing him for new entries but...
- Heads Kyle would like it where you select a head and than select a color instead of having 4 separate heads listed but...
- Kyle and requests He's working on other projects so it's difficult to keep up on all the requests.
- Tweaks are easier for him to pitch than new modes.
- Default wrestlers Developers just came up with them. They asked Kyle to check the names to see if they were appropriate but he left them as is since they were so Fire Pro. lol
- Roadmap The developers have a basic idea on what they plan to do. He will see what he can find out. Once he has a better idea on what direction they're moving, he'll share it with us.
- Early Access length It depends. This is the soft launch to get it ready for PS4 launch. PC gaming is not big in Japan. They want to move onto the console release. So it will be a reasonable timeline.
- Classic Fire Pro things like the Critical logo and sounds He's pushing for it. Write in the forums and say you want it too.
Biggest take away from that is custom entrance music coming next month, and a gm mode definitely in the works. One based on final fire pro, instead of the shitty fpr version.
Biggest downer is that asymetrical designs and gradients aren't happening.

Already a few mods up at the arena. Blood mod that stops the blood on the mat from disappearing. Mod that allows for custom colors in ring editor instead of the 10 presets. Texture mod that allows you to change the logo on entrance nameplates.

There is a move editor already in the game. It it buggy as shit and entirely in Japanese, and I'm not sure if the moves that you could create with it (if you could figure out how to use it) are loaded by the game...but it exists, so I'd say it's entirely within the realm of reality.
Not going to get my hopes up too much, but at least there's potential for it.
Is it really too much to ask for breakable tables and a ladder or two?
I am super pumped for post match possibilities.

It is, actually. I'm sure they thought about it, given that they're appealing to western audiences this time around, but it's not like a 3d game where its just another interactive object. There are a ton of factors that would have to be completely reprogramed, as well as new animations etc.
Keep in mind there are only 10 people working on this game.

Yeah, one thing you will note is that you can never truly control who wins and loses, even if you adjust stats and logic. Its especially difficult when you get into different creators who have different ideas for where a certain wrestler should be at.

Yeah, right now I only download wrestlers that have it indicated that there is logic (the few WWE jobbers I haven't collected yet) but it's definitely up to interpretation. So far though I've only really seen people bitch about an Okada edit saying he's rated at Inoki levels.

Ukemi, discretion, flexibility, fight style, return style, and special skills all play a role in how well an edit does, but at the end of the day, they don't have any effect on how many grapples a wrestler can win. RNG is RNG.

Again, that's why I am going through and tweaking all my downloaded edits. You can't really make a complete jobber squash, but you can make it harder for an indy guy to beat a megastar. Though it can still happen.

Honestly, I could see Okada having close to Inoki levels. Many consider him the best wrestler in the world right now, and he has cemented one of the greatest iwgp title runs of all time. He just lacks Inoki's legendary charisma.

To me, the RNG factor of it makes me absolutely love this game for simming. Yeah maybe I'll need to fix some stats later but for now I love that my game has decided to make Big Cass a complete badass while Lesnar is now working the opening G1 match of the evening.
Countless SmackDown/WWE2k games I've run sim feds in and there were so few upsets at all especially with the heavy reliance on stats in those games.
I remember my nips basically being blown off when my first day with WWE '12 saw Alex Riley (back when he looked like he could become something important, lol) win a 6 man battle royal to earn #1 contendership and then actually beat Punk at the PPV for the belt. I was like holy shit - they finally made a game where the results aren't predictable and any CPU character has a fighting chance.
Nah, he ended up dropping the belt in a squash at Mania and almost every match went how the ratings said they should go.
I see no point in doing a sim fed if the results are gonna be predictable 95% of the time. WWE is bad enough with that as is.

Yeah, one thing a lot of people don't realize is that parameters play a very small role in the game. A 100 pointer can beat the crap out of a 200+ pointer, depending on the logic. That's what matters.

Yeah, one thing you will note is that you can never truly control who wins and loses, even if you adjust stats and logic. Its especially difficult when you get into different creators who have different ideas for where a certain wrestler should be at.

When selecting a wrestler with multiple costumes, you can now cancel and return to the Wrestler Select screen.
Added keyboard functionality for the following gamepad buttons:
X(Square) is now mapped to the Z key.
Y (Triangle) is now mapped to the X key.
LEAGUE MODE SPECIFIC CHANGES
Fixed issue where you could start a match by selecting a blanked-out square. (I.e. the space representing Wrestler A vs Wrestler A)
In a league with multiple blocks, you can now move freely between blocks instead of being forced to hold matches in order.
To switch between blocks in a league, you now use left/right on the analog stick/keyboard instead of LB(L1)/RB(R1)
Fixed issue causing match rules (time, etc) to reset during the finals.
Fixed issue where the proper wrestler would not be selected in the finals.

Right now it's just basic modes like exhibition, league, tourney, etc. Promoter mode is coming down the line.

So there has been an issue with save files getting corrupted. It turns the language to Japanese, and won't allow you to select any wrestlers, making it unplayable. So I highly recommend backing up your save, as replacing the corrupted save with a working one is the only way to resolve the issue. Uninstalling, or deleting the corrupted save outright and starting over, doesn't work.
I've also taken the liberty of uploading my own save for people to use, in case this happens. It has around 1,200 edits and just about anyone you could want, but I do my own thing with the rosters, so You'll have to do a lot of rearranging of current feds if you want it to be accurate.

No update this week, but spike chunsoft posted that they'll make it up to us with next weeks update with new features. So that all but confirms custom entrance themes next week. REALLY hoping for a new interface for deleting and copying workshop wrestlers.

- In game resolution options. (No word on 21:9 being supported from the get go, you can have 21:9 through reg edit)
- Mouse support in all menus
- Various quality of life changes to edit mode (not really specified cause of big list). One example is using L and R buttons on controller to go through list. Big list in patch notes tomorrow.
- Four new moves: Counter flap jack (Okada), Diving Cutter, Final Bomb (Possibly Ibushi, Last Ride into a Sitout pin), "Double Arm Dangerous Knee" (Ibushi. Grab both arms and knee opponent in face)

They responded to my suggestion to add the ability to edit the late match spirit boost!....and said it's not really possible because spirit boost is attached to too many factors. Fuck. Gonna have to keep tweaking ukemi and traits to get more consistant lower card vs higher card results.
On a lighter note they wanted suggestions on how they would like to manage their edits, because right now, it's just one big list. Hopefully this means a new edit mode UI in the next update, because I've got 1300 edits.
