1) In my head, the Super Mario Bros. death music played.

I find it cool every time they do it. It's such an amazing visual.

To me it's no different than using similar stunts in movies. I'm sure people have seen some variation of a guy jumping from one moving car to another in multiple movies. I don't think it's a big deal to see things like that done again, provided they are done well.

The other thing is you can't assume the vast majority of the people who watched in 2003 or 2011 are the same people that are watching today. Fans turnover, so for a lot of people, I'm sure it was a new thing.
