Also fight details
1st phase took an hour and a half. My strat was to rest everything on cyrus and light damage and use clerics double cast...i forgot to give prim the fucking skill. So i had padded team two with my dps since everything in team 1 was defensive based save cyrus. With cryus only doing3x instead of 6x it really slowed me down.
2nd phase took about 10 min or less. Warmaster with sidestep and reflect and all the BP she could stand. It was chump fight at that point. I knew if i could get my A team to round 2 there wouldnt be a struggle.

Chewing over what a great experience this was. Ive had this feeling after beating games over the years but its so very rare. That sense of completion and total satisfaction.
Truly was one the best games i have ever played. Wild to think i felt this way twice on the past year with p4 and p5. Been a good time for rpg nerds.

I figured Red Eye had something to do with The Gate and LOVED it when it showed up and H'aanit freaked out. I didn't work out it was Crossford until the diary though, that detail made it even better. When I fought it, I got the vibe that it looked like a shadow human version of Ghisarma. Maybe he just took the form of whatever beast he fought last since he had been partially absorbed into Galdera and was tripping balls.
Was Darius acting independently of Obsidian? The seal was broken a long time before Heathcoat managed to retrieve the first stone. Therion bringing them all back (and I guess ultimately becoming their new guardian) was necessary to prevent the Gate being unsealed again in the future, but didn't Obsidian know it was already open?
Mathias didn't seem to be clued in about Kit still being an option since he was dead set on snuffing out the sacred flame, but Esmerelda was looking for info in Crossford's diary that seemingly led them to Kit. Can't remember if it said who was funding Mathias, but I think he only ever had contact with Lyblac and she was playing the long game with him, maybe Crossford was an attempted shortcut to her end goal. Using Lianna as a vessel for Galdera outside of the gate, with no Sacred Flame in place, could potentially pose a much bigger threat to the world than sacrificing Kit?

1st phase for me was my A team haha, Warmaster made it trivial really.
2nd phase was my Prim led squad and this was a much more level playing field, I almost got wiped by his multi hits twice but I fortunately had Alfyn and Olberic left standing respectively to do full team revives. Legitimately thought I was wiped both times. Leghold Trap seriously saved my life here. Had to get rid of Lyblac first to stop the heals, then focused on the Maw. Here I got the first of my near death experiences but I got everyone back online to 3000hp and that idiot Dark God just looked at me ominously instead of finishing me off. Once the maw fell I had to deal with a hyper powered sword arm which scared the shit out of me whenever it got it's one chance to double turn recover. Once Galdera was alone it was smooth sailing, finished him off the only way I know how - AMPUTATION!
This was Bizarro Sephiroth but actually well done instead of being totally confusing. A very worthy final boss that was so satisfying to fight.

Finished on 108hrs and I'm with you Destor, this and Persona 4/5 all vastly exceeded my high expectations and are right up there amongst the best games I've ever played. What a ride.

Im left to assume that while the stones were out of their hands it was enough to open the gate but I think the issue here is that they dont have a very good internal communication network in their organization. Mathias is a great example where you see that Lyblac has gone around manipulating all these people but once they serve her purpose she moves on. Had she tried to coordinate these efforts and not compartmentalized them she might have succeeded.
There's a lot of examples of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. And this is mirrored by the audiences lack of knowledge as well. We were all in the dark.
I think Mithias's plan would be less of a threat because you would have a man infused with Galdara opposed to Galdara reborn.
Would like to put over just how unique this method of story telling was. I have never played a game that felt like a mystery so much as this. 80 hours and I didnt realize there was mystery at all and then suddenly there is this "ah ha" moment that I have never got from any game off the top of my head. At first i considered it a criticism that the story was section off the way it was but in hindsight that allowed for something truly unique.

The episodic nature of the story worked really well for me, it felt a bit like LOST in presentation but I think the devs were actually heavily influenced by Game of Thrones with their world building and putting pieces in place. It's a really refreshing way to approach an RPG rather than the standard meet character > resolve characters problem > character has nothing going on now so joins the team.
There's a lot of little details you either don't notice or could easily overlook, lots of shadowy figures in cloaks share the same sprite and without knowing the whole picture you could easily shrug it off as limitations of the graphical style, when actually every single character who uses that sprite is an Obsidian.

I legit thought the black cloaks were just a style choice the designers thought were rad so they reused them. When I realized it was deliberate and had a deeper meaning it was a revelation.

I thought they were all connected to Prim's villains, then Cyrus Ch3 reveal happened (my last Ch3 for the record) and I thought oh maybe not, then when I did Cyrus Ch4 (with only Ophilia Ch4 in between) I realised I was right the first time haha

I legit didnt TRULY figure it out until I read my 4th book. at the end game. I did bottom row no.3 then no.4 then no.1 then no.2
While reading 2 i was like...wait a damn second.
And reread the other 3 and was like OH SNAP.

Kinda bugs me how I completed every sidequest I could find but the flags on the sidequests screen are all so uneven.
Destor

I think the flags are based off volume of quest. So like everything is counted as 1 as opposed to being % based

I was running around for a good 30 mins with the no encounters ring equipped making sure I didn't miss anything, maybe I was really in denial it was over haha.
Nice, I think Cliftlands is my favourite track. Like Prim's and H'aanit's themes a lot too.
