The ending was the definition of asking a guy in TEW to do a crazy bump only for them to say no so you have to settle for a poorly thought out stunt bump instead.

Watching it back, seriously why go through all that effort to paint the cardboard on only one side? Just use a black ring canvas and it would have looked so much better.
So, was this as shit as I thought it would be?

Only the ending but the rest of it was a great brutal and bloody match.
Ricky Starks could shit blood in my mouth and i'll call him Jesus.

if they hid it with camera angles thats all anyone would be talking about. thats the same no nut finish. there's no winning. take a hard and risky bump or dont do the spot.

Yeah, not a fan of the modern trend of guys taking bumps into comfy pillows.
Still trending at #2 on Twitter in the states r/n

Jericho should've gone clear through the stage with the crash pad several feet below out of view to the audience and cameras. Just having him lay there looked terrible.

What a match. Shit finish, but hey, wrestling's not real right?
I'll take it over the 10th DQ finish of the week, anytime.

It's a real shame because the match was fantastic and brutal in a way matches like that should be, but yeah all anybody will talk about is the finishing spot looking bush league.
AEW really need to learn, preferably sooner than later, that the finish is always going to be what people walk away remembering.

On the plus side of it, MJF looks like a million bucks and if they do MJF vs. Sammy at DoN that should be really fucking good.

MJF was reeeeeeeeeeeeeally put at another level last night. Not sure if it was the event, the blood, or a combo, but he was fucking pumped and letting everyone see it. Dude is a start and MORE than showed that last night, by far.
Even knowing the end, I'd watch that match again because it was entertaining AF.

The match was really awesome. One of my favorite AEW matches ever. They really did a fantastic job building up to a climatic ending. It's just that the execution of that climax drizzled out and was kind of a flop. I wouldn't want Jericho to take a Foley fall, just would have like them to have worked it better.

Yeah. Awesome show. Almost was a home run but they chickened out halfway there and kept it at a triple.
Instead of the hostage end, they should have just left Jericho fall off and end it that way. But, even the fall hurt the end of the show.
Show was great. Especially the WarGames aspect of it. They really should put great matches like that on free TV more often. But obviously, don't over do it. I hope Tony Khan and the rest of AEW are combing through the tweets and message boards today and hope they won't make the same mistake the next time.

It's really wild how AEW has felt at times like a much better version of WCW and also, exactly like WCW with the poor production moments and climactic flops. Of course you can draw a parallel to the Exploding Death Match and the Chamber of Horror's botch with Abdullah and Cactus Jack, multiple spot exposing shots that could've been covered with a better camera angle, especially if you are showing a taped program or a show on a 7 second delay.
Last night reminded me in a way of when Kanyon was tossed off the Triple Cage at the revised Wargames, I think it was 1999 or 2000. That spot was obviously gimmicked and from a much higher platform. But still they gimmicked it in a way that looked bad ass, at least from my memory. It looked like the ramp collapsed, you didn't see a crash pad or anything like that. The spot that AEW set up was obvious from the beginning of the show, those with a keen eye knew we were going to get a stunt bump on that large raised area near the cage. You'd think they could've used some other material than what they ended up using. People are saying cardboard but it looks more like they used wooden wall paneling and painted over the top of it and didn't think to do the underside.
I think they could've focused more on the spot to make it look really dangerous without it actually being dangerous. They could have used some sort of plastic fabrication that wouldn't break upon impact but bend, or perhaps even a thin aluminum over the crash pad. There could have been a lot more ingenuity in that bump to make it the perfect culmination to an incredibly violent and awesome effort from everyone involved. It's really the production that let us down, the guys who worked the match went far and above to make sure it was a killer match.
I think the first time I saw an actual crash pad was at Wrestlemania 17 when Triple H bumped off a structure after Taker choke slammed him. That spot also damped the entire match for me. I'm not advocating people bump like Foley or Darby, that obviously isn't the long term best thing for anyone. But I am saying if you aren't 100% sure you can make a gimmicked violence work, or if you don't have 100% control over an effect (explosion death match) then don't go with the idea. WWE generally has this lesson down. They never did the exploding cage match with Kane/Xpac at WM 16 because it wouldn't have delivered. Vince canceled the idea once he saw it in person. Tony still has a lot of lessons to learn.

yeah that would have been the way to do it fade to black as he was thrown over.

Very good rebound from last week and also proved that last week's huge decline really was due to political and news stuff.
In terms of 2 weeks ago, they went down a little in overall viewership but had a big gain in overall key demo numbers and almost what they did for the first week without NXT.

So far the best ending bump in a big AEW match goes to Sammy G at Stadium Stampede.
Technically not an ending bump, but this...

According to PWI, AEW originally did not plan for the Blood & Guts match to be as bloody as it ended up being.
Most of the blood during that match and the Cody vs. QT match happened via the hard way and not something that had been planned beforehand for spots.
Cody Rhodes was busted open hardway during his match with QT Marshall last night, opening up the same place near his eye that has been busted open hardway before. It's a case of the same point being accidentally struck. That blood was not planned.
We are told that several talents in the Blood and Guts match were also busted open hardway. So, there was far more blood and guts in the bout than had been initially intended.
We are told there were no major injuries coming out of the match, but obviously lots of bumps and bruises

Eh, when they pull those numbers consistently, I'll agree...... but it was a largely-hyped "gimmick" this time around.
Highly enjoyable for me, save the end bump, but still more entertaining than anything else.
They should be proud, for sure, but let's see them maintain the momentum.

– TNT Championship: Darby Allin (c) vs. Miro
– AEW World Tag Team Championship: The Young Bucks (c) vs. SCU
– IWGP United States Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Yuji Nagata
– AEW World Championship Eliminator Match: Orange Cassidy vs. Pac – The winner will face Kenny Omega for the title at Double or Nothing
That'll work.
