As it turns out, Black actually posted a vignette yesterday afternoon on his Instagram confirming his new ring name. Most fans wouldn’t have seen it and assumed he’s Tommy End though so it kinda makes sense to me to be like “you know him as Tommy End but it’s Malakai Black” or whatever.

Either way it was a fire debut.

Also it’s come out that Black wasn’t let out of his deal early, rather WWE forgot to bump his non-compete from 30 days to 90 when he went to the main roster

Eh, he never really called an Aleister Black match did he? Don't see that happening "outta habit" like his WWE gaffes.

SoDuTw (Rovert) was the only 'insider' who mentioned Black that I saw, so I think they did a pretty good job of keeping him as a surprise

That's likely incorrect and just some bullshit Meltzer or a Meltzerlike shill made up. There is no way WWE forgot to update his contract to a main roster contract because NXT contracts include travel, room, and board. There is ZERO chance WWE was paying all his expenses this whole time without noticing.

My money is on WWE waved the 90 days as part of Zelina agreeing to comeback.

So back on the road, normal timeslot, unopposed by NXT, another WWE debut, Pat McAfee's dad cutting a promo, Andrade's hyped first match, Cody in another gimmick match, and the MEGADRAWS Young Bucks in a hyped up main event LOST viewers??? SHOCKING!!!

Quick, somebody check if Joe Biden was on TV to explain the drop :rofl:I

Edit:I checked, no Biden stealing ratings :'(

I don’t know why anyone is bothering with predicting the future based upon anything pandemic related. It zapped all the energy out of every wrestling company in the world. It forced every company to put on a worse product.

Let’s just wait and see folks.

And that’s my two cents.

Yeah, crowd chanting "Tommy" kind of ruined the moment too a bit....

He was also saying stuff about wrestling Tommy End before going back on track to say it wasn't Tommy End.

WWE has been in buisness for decades and decades while AEW has been in buisness for only two and has a tv rights deal that took WWE decades to achieve! AEW is by far more successful in it's second year than any company of all time!

AEW has considerable issues. they don't have the brand or the decades or long standing relationships with networks and sponsors. AEWs numbers are easily replicated by shows with much smaller budgets and that should the real concern. not WWE. 3 cam sitcoms. syndicated reruns. i hope AEW grows untils its a true success but its clock is ticking and its ticking much faster than the wwfs.

:y:

The big issue is going to be when Warner learns it can get more advertising from Big Bang reruns than spending money on AEW. 871k this week. It’s going down, and that would be a pretty average number even when they were going against NXT.

I agree with this 100%.

Take WWE out of the equation and just look at AEW as a TV show. This is a TV show that debuted less than 2 years ago with a 1.4 rating. They have not come within 300,000 Viewers since, minus the first night NXT was no longer on, when they got a 1.2.

Both those ratings would suggest that people gave them a look, and did not come back. It is all the proof needed to show that this company is not growing a fanbase.

AEW operates in this weird bubble where they intended to do self promotion to draw fans, but instead truly believe their own hype, so much so that they are confrontational with anybody who tries to suggest improvement. They believe in their own hype so much so that they ignore the fact that they are not growing, that what they are doing is perfect across the board, and that they have no reason to try and get better.

They have their cheerleaders like Meltzer and Bleacher Report reporters that validate their opinions, and when they get on a show with a unbiased person who asks them legit questions, they spaz out like Tony Khan did with Bully Ray.

The Young Bucks have quit Twitter how many times because they cant handle criticism, them come back and mock Big E for a WWE list that says New Day is the best tag team.

You got Kenny Omega on Twitter bashing fans that arent blind supporters every other day.

Jericho is still crying over Shotzi Blackheart posting a gif 2 months ago, and saying he would prevent her from getting a job because of it.

These are not likeable people.

Someone, at some point, is going to ask Tony Khan if he does in fact lease rings from Chasyn Rance, as has been claimed by Rance. And that is going to open a rather large can of worms.

wrestling is saturated, repetitive and very predictable right now. It's not a real shock on the ratings by all the companies. There's no must see TV from any company. Kids/teens have a million other avenues to entertain themselves vs back 10-20 years ago, so obtaining growth from that market is very difficult. Not a lot of people in their 20's and 30's are all of a sudden going to start liking wrestling, so it's hard to get that market to buy in. So they are left with the wrestling junkies, who will go out of their way to watch any wrestling they can.

But even wrestling fans today don't even have to watch an entire show to stay updated on what happened. you can just go to you tube the next day and watch video clips of what happened. Back then if you missed it, you missed it unless one of the Sat/Sun shows replayed some segments. That's honestly what i do today. If i read something interesting happened, i'll find it on the internet and check it out

i don't see any end in sight to the downward TV ratings. I don't think the live ticket market is in trouble because that's a fun time for families and it's a once or twice a year thing to catch in your area. So people get excited for that. But TV...yeah it'll continue to dwindle.

I'd rather an hr show per company and they don't put the same guys on every week. Go back to basics. But it won't happen because there's way too much ad money to be lost

slik

I agree with you so much on oversaturation.

Growing up you really only had to watch WWF Superstars and WCW Saturday Night to follow everything. You *could* watch Wrestling Challenge (and who wouldn't want to with Monsoon/Heenan) and WCW Saturday Morning/Main Event...but you didn't have to.

There's too much product, in WWE's case it's almost all the same. I love horror movies and I could probably watch a new horror film every day if I had the chance...but if every horror movie had the same production style, camera angles and horrible storylines I'd get bored fast. In AEW's case I already don't watch the YT shows and am on the fence about Rampage.

Live events I think will do fine for now as well. I think around 3-5k will be the average attendance for shows, with big shows getting bigger crowds. In WWE's case I am wondering if they have any long-term plans (note: I know they don't) since Cena at SummerSlam and Rock at Survivor Series leaves something you can't possibly top for WrestleMania. I think Cena will give SD a lil bump in ratings and I think Rock will most definitely give SD a significant bump in ratings, but what's the plan after that (note: I know they don't have one)...
