Triple H will make decisions based on his vanity too. He also had no clue Guardians of the Galaxy was going to be huge. I would love to be optimistic, but it depends where he puts his ego. If he wants to make the WWE “better” and “more popular,” then he and Stephanie could make some very pleasing moves. If he wants to make it in his true vision? It remains to be seen what that actually is.

I’m not sure TV-14 is the way forward. And I’m not sure I trust Triple H to be cutting edge like that. I didn’t think he was that good at it way back when he was in his 30’s.

But they are possibly more open to some creative business strategies. Could they swoop in and make a deal with New Japan? Could they even reach out to AEW about doing cross-promotion? Who knows? This could all be reversed in a week and be a ploy by Vince to get the board to beg him to stay on, lol. As you said, we’ll know better what this looks like in 6 months.

Something to keep in mind about Triple H/NXT: It was designed to target a specific audience. It was a vanity project for the WWE Network. Just because Triple H went with Kevin Owens, Finn Balor and Adam Cole in NXT doesn’t mean he’s going to have the same gameplay for 3 hours of Raw on USA, 2 hours of SmackDown on FOX.

He might treat them better. If that’s even a good thing. Look at what Adam Cole has turned into. But I wouldn’t expect NXT to turn back into NXT let alone Raw or SmackDown to do that. But hey, if he wants to get himself over, maybe a bit of “fan service” is the way they’ll go?

It would be interesting if they at least tried to give Raw and SmackDown different vibes. Hell, we might even see WWE’s extensive trademark library mined if Vince isn’t going to be opposing overall direction.

I dunno, there is wriggle room there for people to play with. Of course they’re going to want to make as much money as possible, but there can be competing ideas on how that is best achieved.

Change isn’t guaranteed at all. But it isn’t impossible either. New merchandising deals can be struck up, trademarks brought back to monetize. In the context of content, they might decide to try and put on more urgent shows instead of sitting in a low gear to be evergreen. They might value using their history more to promote their present (for example, something as simple as showing Edge & Rey winning the Tag Titles to promote them facing Judgment Day, if that’s the plan).

The new regime might have the energy and desire to put some effort into putting their own stamp on things — at least for a while — even if they are largely likely to keep a steady hand with most things.

Lately I’ve been thinking of the contemporary nature of content. In some ways, the past is as accessible to the youth of today as live entertainment. When it comes to moving away from PPV to streaming, I think a mistake some people make is thinking that the lower price point for the Network takes pressure off the shows. Whereas it could be the case that in years time, people will look back on what’s happening now and hold that sleepwalking against the company. Even if the WWE is alive and thriving, podcasts will be made about how barren this period is, with people daring themselves to watch it. WWE is so far ahead when it comes to modern delivery of their product. Vince was, frankly, brilliant to move over to the WWE Network and then lease it out. But I’m not sure anyone has really got a handle on how well content is or isn’t going to age, and how that is going to affect perception of the live product in a few years time.

I am not saying it's going to happen over night but this is certainly going to affect AEW, negatively. I was on the F4Wonline forum and there are so many "ALL OR NOTHING" AEW fans that refuse to see the threat to the growth that AEW has made, which really isn't growth but the steady audience of 750-900k viewers.

We know that it's smart for the structure of WWE to remain similar, you don't want to "change the whole show" but there are a thousand micro changes that can amount to great revival for WWE. Because of the level of potential viewership, if WWE does "get better" over time, you'd think that on all levels their views would increase. USA, Fox, Peacock and internationally. They are already doing very good business with live gates, though that number is so insignificant to the rights deals they have.

Triple H is also keen on "debuts", from watching his NXT creative. Not on the level of Tony Khan but, I'm saying there are a ton of talents that WWE could either "bring up" from NXT or UK, as well as the vast amount of talents that were released. Though, remember that Nick Kahn was credited for a lot of those releases, perhaps he wants to keep the talent budget at a certain level. We shall see. Even without a lot of returns, there is a lot of potential.

The biggest turn here would be if for the sake of God, Raw is reduced to a two hour show. Unlikely, I know but you never know.

All of the talent that WWE is pushing right now is totally ready to let the shakles off. These guys like Roman, Brock, Lashley, Drew, Becky, Charlotte, Auska, Profits, Riddle, MVP,
Styles, Uso's, New Day, KO, Zayn... like they can all do their own thing. They don't need to be shackled to scripts and bad creative. I think Triple H is old school, and he is a wrestling fan. Yes there is a wider audience and we shouldn't expect something like NXT, but NXT should show that he really cares about wrestling and know what a great product can look like, and he can produce that.

Who cares that Vince didn't agree? NXT could have "beaten" AEW with the right game plan and circumstances. But unfortunately NXT had been raided of all it's hot stars and all that was left on the scene was signed to AEW. I don't view the state of NXT as Triple H's fault. I don't view AEW beating NXT as Triple H's fault. There was a hot new promotion with big stars that a bunch of people wanted to watch. And NXT was in a small venue every week with great wrestling but no real care behind it, from Vince.

The issue with NXT happened way before AEW, and it was how badly Vince handles the callups. Vince killed any incentive for fans to be invested in NXT or the roster. It got to the point where even the wrestlers themselves did not want to get called up because they knew it would be doom. Even guys who by all accounts fit Vince's vision of what a wrestler should look like such as EC3 or Karrion Kross, were intentionally devalued immediately. They were literally called up not to improve Raw or Smackdown, they were called up to devalue NXT.

Triple H's creative upstaged Vince's by a mile, and instead of Vince trying to make improvements to the main roster's creative, he pulled Triple H's best pieces and buried them, then tried to put the blame on Triple H for NXT's failures.

I don't know for certain Triple H will be able to have large scale success, but at the very least if he and Steph can do simple things like not doing mass firings or having people walk out, not renaming everybody and not intentionally killing anybody getting over, well that itself would be far better.

Jordan with some EXCELLENT posts in here. It’s important to keep in mind what NXT was and the audience Triple H was going for versus the prerogatives of the main WWE roster. There are people thinking the Austin Theory push might disappear, or that Roman won’t be the featured star. Come on now.

But Triple H has got the energy and maybe the desire to let wrestlers talk more organically. Commentators might be allowed to commentate more freely. Certain words may not be banned anymore. Talent might find places that are specifically carved for them if he really likes, as opposed to them not fitting into the gentrified WWE at all. He might choose to put energy into making the shows feel lively for a little while, at least to get himself over in the position before everything feels like it’s painted with the same brush.

It won’t be big, jarring changes. It’ll be little things that were surprisingly big entry blockers. And that will neutralize the perceived uniqueness of AEW for a lot of people. In my opinion, AEW is already not good enough to be acting like they’re heads and tails better than WWE. If WWE gets better? Yikes.

There’s so much to consider. Triple H might even be driven to work with New Japan and/or even AEW. We’ll just have to wait and see.
