I don't think there is enough people in the tourny and that they are rushing it for Grand Slam. Miro should be in. Hell throw Andrade in too. Don't give Jericho and Mox a bye for round 1.
He dropped the ball.
Last night could have been the start of a 16 man tournament.
Next week we drop down to 8
Following week, the semi finals open the show and the finals close the show.
Would have been captivating TV

This is the perfect time for Tony to turn heel and basically tell the fans to fuck off, I don't care what you think, etc. He could even become an on air personality as the boss who goes too far.
But it won't happen.
He could absolutely not pull of any kind of character on TV, especially heel. I've said it before but AEW could really use an on-screen authority who is just about anyone except Tony Khan.

Please no authority figures. WWE has ruined it.

What about a mystery authority figure, pulling the strings like oz behind the scenes. Surely that hasn’t been done before.

I think an Anonymous authority figure could be good.

Can't they at least have someone who doesn't look like they've never seen a camera before make these big announcements, though

I think the authority trope is very played out. More over if its a heel then the company is heel. Psychologically that impacts the viewer subconsciously. And a baby authority is basically useless.
Heyman making the network the heel authority in 99 was a stroke of genius though. You had your heel antag but the audience could rally behind the company against them. If youre going to have a figure like that it needs to be a scenario that doesnt pit the audience against AEW.

AEW needs an actual authority figure more than an on-screen one.

I would like to reiterate that last nights main event was fucking Wheeler Yuta vs Daniel Garcia. They celebrated a 3rd tier ROH title win like it was Bryan at WrestleMania.
I think Tony honestly believes that no matter what, as long as they have a solid in-ring match on tv then that will fix everything. You simply cannot "just have a good match" out of it here.

This is fucking AEW 2.0 as far as I'm concerned.

Yuta/Garcia was the main event on their A show right after their biggest show of the year and after all the insanity thats been going on between MJF and Punk/Elite. That's how they strike while the iron is hot.
Trying to imagine the Raw after WrestleMania rolling with something like Funaki and Chavo Guerrero for a main event.

I think it was a good show, but wasn’t hot. I’m not looking forward to anything next week, and I probably won’t watch.
So the main event… I took it as a message to everyone involved. It was basically saying to them “this is who we are, and we respect the code that everyone went through in ROH.” Getting back to basics… basically
Pretty lame.

I think they were so transfixed on giving Garcia his big hometown moment, which I understand, he’s been a lynchpin in the Jericho/Danielson feud and the crowd was red hot for him. But it didn’t need to main.
When they announced the tourney brackets and Page/Danielson was announced as being on the show, that felt like an easy main event choice. Having it as a semi-main just felt really awkward.

I don't think Garcia's hometown moment would have been lessened at all by being in the middle of the card. And I say that as someone from Buffalo who is rooting for the guy.
Main event should have been Page vs Danielson.

His team of orderlies have to both set him down, and spin him in circles. for the ole spinarooni. Booker loves it, but doesn't understand why they do it when he doesn't want. This is the only way Old Booker T can poo
He also starts to count FIVE TIME FIVE TIME and promptly forgets, causing him to get tired and then nap.

Feel like Mox is the obvious choice to win the tourny after his speech the other night and him having the confrontation with MJF. Normally I would think it would be time to put the strap on D Bry maybe, but I don't think now is the best situation for that. You go with Mox or Jericho so you can quickly get rid of the fact that CM Punk is the only actual 2 time AEW champ. Jericho is always a great choice to put someone over, and while normally I would say putting MJF over Mox would be a bad idea, it would really elevate MJF and Mox was gonna take time off anyways until all this happened so maybe that's the way to go. I dunno, just musing.
Other than that situation and MJF in general though I find myself disinterested still. Probably just watch clips of that stuff on YT or something for awhile.

AEW’s main events always suck. Haven’t they been ending on the six-man tags? Also, I’m sure I’ve heard about Daniel Garcia main eventing before.

Havent watched the show yet, probably will today. I saw Tonys segment though, looked like he did well for an ADD riddled weirdo. Pretapes are his window to looking less like the strange man he is.
World title tournament looks fire, happy with anyone in that bunch winning not named Sammy. I would kind of like to see Darby win but the timings wrong when he would need to lose to MJF soon. Unless they think they can keep MJF hot long enough to give Darby a decent run.
