Welcome once again ladies and gents. In this week's installment we go all the way back to NWA Clash of Champions IX: New York Knockout. The event took place on November 15th 1989 and was aired live on TBS. Now the show itself was not all that grand. A lot of matches were dq finishes and the like, it did however feature Terry Funk vs Flair in an I Quit match and Pillman vs luger. However neither matches of these are the subject of this week's installment. In fact this week isn't even about a wrestler, it's about a manager. One, Jim Cornette. The match: The Midnight Express vs The Dynamic Dudes (Shane Douglas and Johnny Ace).
The Back Story: Cornette over time had seemingly started to spend less time with the Midnight Express and more time with the Dynamic Dudes. The Express were not very pleased with this and as a result this match was made. The spot I wish to highlight is the end of the match, with a great swerve by Cornette. It is an example of how you don't have to have a complicated turn for it to be effective.

Yesss, Lara you rule. I have never seen this and have only read about. I heard the swerve was great, but the thing is, the fans popped like crazy when Cornette turned. And that killed any push for the Dudes. I'll DL it later :y:

Yeah the crowd did, which is rather hillarious. Says a lot about the Dynamic Dudes Gimmick heh. Either that or maybe they just popped for the same reason I did when I watched this. The sheer brilliance of the spot.

Wow, now that is how you do a quick heel turn. It happened so fast and you couldn't see it coming. Xtian's chairshot on Edge a few years back was like that, except it was post match. But it was Quick and to the Point. Great Stuff, keep em coming Lara :y:

Not only that but the way Cornette does it lal he really comes acorss as the wormy bastards his character really is. The way he jumps otu of the ring for instance. This turn was simple and effective. I especially love the moments just before the racket shot where you really thing he's the good guy who is only interested in a fair match.

Cornette
Awesome turn then.
Yeah, the part about the crowd marking out was funny too. When I saw the sloppy pin and the small crowd, I couldn't help but think about how wrestling has progressed since... :)
