From Lara's Vast Archives: Spot or Event of the Week, WEEK #2
Welcome once again ladies and gents. In this week's installment we go all the way back to NWA Clash of Champions IX: New York Knockout. The event took place on November 15th 1989 and was aired live on TBS. Now the show itself was not all that grand. A lot of matches were dq finishes and the like, it did however feature Terry Funk vs Flair in an I Quit match and Pillman vs luger. However neither matches of these are the subject of this week's installment. In fact this week isn't even about a wrestler, it's about a manager. One, Jim Cornette. The match: The Midnight Express vs The Dynamic Dudes (Shane Douglas and Johnny Ace).
The Back Story: Cornette over time had seemingly started to spend less time with the Midnight Express and more time with the Dynamic Dudes. The Express were not very pleased with this and as a result this match was made. The spot I wish to highlight is the end of the match, with a great swerve by Cornette. It is an example of how you don't have to have a complicated turn for it to be effective. http://www.members.lycos.co.uk/laris.../Cornette2.mpg (right click save as) ![]() |
