So....do all Brits actually think it's hillarious when a man runs around in women's underwear? A more generalized question is whether or not all Brits think that the so called "British humor" is all that funny. Here in america most of that style of stuff is :| , with the exception of stuff like Red Dwarf and Mr. Bean.
Mr Bean is hardly highbrow stuff so if you like a middle aged man obsessed with his teddy then you can't criticise men running around in womens underwear ( which I don't recall seeing very ofter ).

I watch practically every British sitcom there is, and I am yet to see...
a man runs around in women's underwear
Except Herr Flick in Allo Allo once, which was funny due to the context.

British Humor is great. Granted, I haven't seen a lot of the t.v. shows and whatnot. But I love Monty Python, Eddie Izzard, The Office, and Shaun of the Dead was brilliant.

Pretty much the main stuff that has carried over to here, but I'd love to seek out some other stuff. I hear "Spaced" is pretty good?
Definatly. A fairly cheap (Cheap by British DVD price standards) 3 disc set of the 2 Spaced series and an extra disc full of stuff has just been released. Fantastic for me, who bought the 2 disc set 2 months ago.
Its not hilariously laugh out loud funny, but there are tons of hilarious parodies in there. Lots of making fun of the new Star Wars movies. Plus, theres a character in the series who got kicked out of the terretorial army for trying to invade Paris with a tank.
A lot of the people involved with Shaun Of The Dead were involved with Spaced, hence the reason why Simon Pegg and a few others have starred in both. Simon Pegg was on Xfm a few weeks back and said that a new series of Spaced will come out eventually, but they are planning on working on a new movie, which features a British policeman as an action hero.

I like how a simple question turns into an assault on your way of life, yet the original wording still exists plain as day for everyone to see. No statement was ever made that American humor is superior. I just asked for an understanding of what british humor was, and whether or not it was a realistic sample of the british population. I for one do not care for much of the "american" style of placing half a dozen hot people in a coffee house to chat about sex all afternoon, but those of you overseas probably feel that this is true. Likewise, I only wanted a correction on the reality of your situation.

I was refering to an episode of family guy where two british guys said something wasn't funny...not like a man running around in women's underwear. Not being british, my understanding of what this humor is is limited. So I based it on what I know.
Relax. Take a deep breath. Count to ten. It's not like I'm making fun of you.
And yes, I'm well aware of the TVR tuscan speed 6 as well as the speed 12. (actually my name is a variation of this and Tucson Arizona, where I grew up. I was hoping somebody would eventually notice this so I could rep them. So rep to you.)

Dunno, Benny Hill and the Carry On films, that sort of thing...it represents a *part* of British humour, but nowadays it tends to be seen as sort of the older generation's humour...modern-day stuff is the equal of anything anywhere in the world.

I think Australian Humour is the best, Basicly because we are laid back with our jokes, unlike the British who seem to speed things up, then the Americans who say things that are not funny at all and usually about something in the news to keep subject to the mass population.
actually forget that, this is what matters.
America = different pitch of voice/current events/sexist-homophobic-racist comments/jokes/motion
British = music/speed/shock humour/awe stuck stupid questions/faces
Australian = Experiences/ voice attention levels/loops (one joke leads into another later on i.e. "and I fell over the stool", "Yeah, then I fell down the stairs, stupid Stool") / motion
by the way, most American comedy acts I find boring. I find some British acts funny, but some are boring as well. I find most Australian Comedy acts to be good, but some are crap.
I guess it all depends on which culture we grow up with.

have you seen the office? that is a good comedy yet america tryed to copy it and basically killed it. now that is down to the producers trying to make it more americanized and it just didnt work. i saw the american pilot episode of this and it was rubbish, yet the british one has me laughin my bollocks off.
different cultures have different humour, take chris rock, eddie murphy when they did stand up. to me they werent anything special but others may think different, but if i was to compare them to billy connelly and peter kay the british pair should come top in anyday IMO.
if you want to watch a good british comedy from the bennyhill era (70's/80's) please dont judge us on that. in its day it was funny but not now, however if you watch monty pythan (the life of brian & the holy grail), only fools and horses, fawlty towers and you will see british humour at its best from that time (which is still funny now).
others id name for you to watch: little britian, bottom, the fast show, the young ones, pheonix nights, the royal family, black adder, shooting stars, vic reeves big night out.

it was on E4 months ago, they only showed it once then followed it with the pilot british episode which was a lot funnier. David Brent is the man just for comments like:
'i have some good news & some bad news for you, the company is moving to reading so most of you will lose your jobs, on a more positive note ive been promoted so every cloud has a silver.... your still thinking about the bad news arnt you?'
&
'once i thought i saw the light at the end of the tunnel, then i realised it was just some bastard with a tourch bringing me more work'
also i love it when garth asks if anyone has seen his stapler and the other guy goes o yeah sorry i borrowed it, then gives him it back but its in the middle of some jelly!

I think the reason I hate British "comedy"(including Monty Python) is because it's so arrogant. It's just so pretentious and "we're so funny". Off the top of my head? I pretty much hate all these shows that are supposed to be "funny", which star untalented, flash in the pan dopes like Friends, Fraiser and Arrested Development(not funny). I hate probably 95% of all sitcoms. If I can name one off the top of my head, it would be the one that pretty much everyone else on here has said.
Seinfeld is, and will always be, the funniest sitcom ever. I even put it so high as on the best SHOWS ever. I can't really name more than Seinfeld, but what I was trying to do with my post was point out how arrogant some British comedy is.

I'm not a big sitcom guy myself. Maybe it's the cheesey jokes, maybe it's the "witty repartee" or maybe it's the canned laughter.
