Rocisky,Nedved,Koller, all great players. Also Cech in goal is amazing. It is gonna be a really tough game to win. USA seems to be pretty prepared though. I honestly think they can get a draw out of this, and why not a win. Getting at least 1 point outta this would be huge.

Koller is shit.

However Czechs should still destroy you.

Pretty good games yesterday but don't really have anything to say about them. LOL at Rooney maybe playing on Thursday. Sven really sticking it to Fergie or the biggest knee jerk reaction or both.

He deserved what he got. Lunatics come that far out for crosses that aren't 100% catching.

I thought Japan were the better team and had the better play but even though they definately should have had a penalty before Cahill's second goal, they have nobody to blame but themseleves. In the final 3rd, their passing was the shits. They should have won 3-0 at least.

Good luck to the filthy Aussies though.

Nah lads I was at South Melbourne Hellas social club with a few other lads enjoying the game. We all lost it in the final 10 minutes - WHAT A FUCKING FINISH! Cahill has the honour of being the first Australian to score in a World Cup. I'm still not sure if it was a foul on Schwartzer for the 0-1, either way it was a very arsey goal to concede. But the lads pressed and pressed and were denied by some solid keeping. Then finally the floodgates opened, I'm just wrapped all of my expectations have already been exceded (score 1 goal and get more than 1 point).

Goal difference of +2 will come in handy cos against Brazil we're gonna cop it.

You guys should have seen some of the text messages Downunder and I were exchanging amongst each other during the first 80 minutes, if you think we're pretty racist on here you would be :| at some of the shit we were saying about the fucken Gooks. Absolutely ejaculated with joy 4 times in 10 minutes there. Once for each goal, and once for the final whistle. Japan probably had more quality players on the pitch, but it was all Australia tonight.

Though scrappy and the fault of the keeper, Cahill's first was worth the 32 years we've waited for it. His second was pure class, not to mention collective ejaculation of Aussies everywhere. The third was poor defending; the defender knew Aloisi was left footed, so he tried to show him onto the right but ended up showing him the goal, Aloisi skins him and the rest is history.

Australia fully deserved that. Much better possession, more shots, more shots on target, and should have had a clean sheet. Even if the little Jap cunt was completely innocent (he wasn't) 9 times out of 10 that's a foul just for being there.

I don't like Wilkshire at all. More than once tonight he got caught out in defence, on one run he let Alex just completely embarrass him on his way to the edge of the box. The other thing is, Australia really have to watch themselves around the box. They give away far too many dangerous fouls in and around the box (and should have had a penalty against them tonight). Absolutely CANNOT afford that against Brazil.

I would have liked to see big Dooks hold up the ball a bit more early on, instead of trying to go forward all the time. It wasn't as noticeable later in the game when Kennedy came on and we were throwing men forward.

Now we have a huge game against Brazil to look forward to in a week's time. Absolutely anything from this game would be a dream for us. We're in the enviable position now of not needing to get points from it, too. I believe now we will go through if Croatia and Japan draw.

Viduka had a blinder I thought. ahahahha @ Hiddink going absolutely awol on the sidelines and shoving some Jap cunts. AHAHAHAHHA @ the Jap cunts getting cleaned up by our boys. Now that we're in Asia I can see Japan being a massive rival

Kid Robb will back me up on this, for years I've been saying that Australia's biggest problem has been qualifying for the World Cup. Once we're there we can cause a few headaches and compete. In the past we have had some killer results against quality opposition but never managed to make the World Cup. Now we have, the lads have had a good 3 weeks of training together and some good hitouts against Greece, Holland and Liechenstein, plus we have a fucking master of a coach. Hiddink you fucking legend. Make the cunt the PM after the WC, for me he's already achieved enough in Germany!

BCWWF
06-12-2006, 08:34 PM
I knew that was going to happen. Americans, especially in the ignorant media, were so smug coming into the tournament. It was like a quarter-finals appearance four years ago and a bullshit No. 5 ranking made the US a contender. I remember watching the draw a few months back and they were doing "contender or pretender" and the US was a contender according to somebody.

The Czech's are one of the top teams in Europe and they were my pick to make a run. They have the keys to doing well, a top midfielder, great forwards and a world class goalie. I could see them pulling a Croatia/Turkey.

Speaking of goalies, Kasey Keller is a pretty good goalie, but he does not give the US any real advantage because two of the worlds top goalies are in our group! If Keller was on the same page as Buffon or Cech, he wouldn't be playing for Borussia Mamgladbach or whatever it's called. I like Keller, but he isn't the cream of the crop like he is being made out to be.

Next, the US doesn't have a striker and Landon Donovan is not a forward. McBride is one of my favorite players, and I like him up there, but we don't have the true "striker" forward. Of course they aren't a dime a dozen, which is why guys like Drogba are the top notch in England, but the US needs a guy who knows when to make the run and shoot on the fly. What ever happened to Clint Mathis? He was that guy in 2002 when he played.

Finally, the US defense is just awful. There has been so much hype behind that Gooch guy, but he got carded right off the bat and was timid the rest of the game. He was responsible for at least one of the goals, as was Eddie Pope. The US is going to need to come out with a completely different lineup Saturday.

I just hate how smug the US has gotten because of a fluke World Cup in 2002. We get lucky, beat Portugal but then tie Korea and lose to Poland. Get a lucky draw against Mexico and then have a solid match against Germany. What about France, Italy, England, Argentina and all of the other traditional powers not showing up? Did they just go away? The top US player is solid for Man City, the top Czech player is a superstar for Juventus. The US is still the underdog until Donovan and some others can prove they can play for big clubs. Then there is the presumption that Ghana is an automatic win. What about Morocco?

BCWWF
06-12-2006, 08:35 PM
WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T JOHNSON AND O'BRIEN START THE GAME????

O'Brien was injured recently and his fitness was in question, but I agree, if he is capable of playing he must play. He is one of out best players. Also, the loss of Frankie Hejduk and Tony Sanneh hurts really bad right now.

Although they didn't score, I liked what I saw from Switzerland. They should be moving on now, but I don't see them going on much further than that. Seemed like they had good fans too.

What I couldn't figure out about France is where was Trezeguet? I thought him and Henry were going to be the future after '98, and it seemed like they could have really used him today. I don't even know the guys they started ahead of him, and then they made two subs and still didn't bring him in. I still see France coming out of the group, but not too much further.

A random note, it seems DeMarcus Beasley probably won't start against Italy. For some reason I can see something big happening there, but I will probably just be disappointed again.

That Gatorade commerical would be sick if they didn't play "Take me out to the ball game" in the backround.

The actual concept of the commerical is actaully pretty good for getting people in the US interested in the World Cup tho, since it shows fans in the crowd with signs saying "Go Home Yankee" and shows them in a tiny shoebox of a locker room before a game with the walls shaking.

As much as I love the guy I totally agree he didn't turn up again. I don't like this "he doesn't turn up for the big games crap" because he sure as hell has turned up for Arsenal in big games (Real Madrid away anyone?) but I seriously can't remember the last time I saw him play well for France. In fact I'm not sure if I've ever seen him play well for France. It's really bizzare.

US fans don't beat yourselves up too much. Sounds like your media have been hyping you up waaay too much (not dislike the Englands to be honest!) and well you were never going to do anything anyway. Losing to the Czechs is no bad thing really. They would tonk England right now comfortably.

Missed the Brazil match but lol at all this Ronaldo bashing. Talk about jumping on the bandwagon. If anyone disses Adriano they don't know what they are talking about as well. Ronaldo will score at least 4 goals this WC no problem.

LOL at that Martin O'Neill quote Giuly is tits how he isn't in the squad is amazing. Wiltord just looked fucking lazy/bored. France is full of old timers and certainly don't look winning it right now.

Finally - is it just me or is every African side this time really quite good. Even Togo looked pretty fucking solid and fast and that guys goal was class. Really promising for the future though not many will get through their groups unfortunately.

Arsenal are basically built around Henry though and everything they do is tailored to suit him. With France he has to play alongside Trezeguet or have guys like Zidane sitting behind him and not making runs...dunno, it's a theory anyway.

I dunno what the BBC TV commentators were watching because funnily enough all the 5 Live commentators were saying about Adriano was how well he was tracking back, he kept looking over to the coach to check whether he had to. Ronaldo just stayed up front and wandered around about a 20 meter area the whole time he was on.

Yeah the US announcers kept talking about how Ronaldo wasn't doing much. I don't know, in the years that I have watched Ronaldo, I know he scores a lot of goals but he has never been a player that I think is particularly fun to watch. Have I just not seem him enough or what?

Adriano and Ronaldo are big fat Brazilian tanks. Ronaldo's at his best when he just runs at people. He doesn't do that so much anymore cos he's getting old and injuries are taking their toll but he needs to be given the ball to his feet around the box so he can run at the defence.

Croatia were playing with 5 men at the back and everyone behind the ball, the only service coming in really was Cafu's crosses and a few long range shots. Ronaldo and Adriano aren't gonna be able to just magically do something if they have no space, thats more what Ronaldinho and Kaka and people do.

I think it was more of a case of the Croats playing well and restricting the strikers, rather than Adriano and Big Ron being lazy/shit/disinterested.

That was a sweet commercial, but they only played it in the weeks leading up to the cup. There were some really good ones before (The Ivory Coast one for example) but not since the cup has been taking place.

Anyway, I only saw the second half of the Germany game today, but that's too bad for Poland. Exciting injury time though, a ball hit the cross bar and then a minute later was the game winner.

That being said, England did look a bit better today, and to me they look like a team that could succeed in the knockout stage. I don't think they have the forwards to win it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they made it as far as the quarterfinals or even a round further.

On another note, just looking at these uniforms of the various teams I realized how quickly you can identify certain teams just by the uniforms.

Examples of unique uniforms:
Red and white checkers: Croatia
Orange: Holland
All yellow: Sweden
Light blue and white stripe: Argentina
Red and white stripes, blue shorts: Paraguay

And then there are the normal ones that are so easily identifyable, examples:
White shorts blue shirt: Italy
Yellow shirt blue shorts: Brazil

But then you have USA. Since about half the countries in western Europe have red-white-blue color schemes, we basically just look like the poor mans England. We've had the same basic scheme as England forever, and that in itself is unamerican.

That's where I ask my question: What happened to these?

http://www.planetworldcup.com/CUPS/1994/wc94_025.jpg

In 1994, the US had these jerseys with the stars on them. Sure, they might not be the most stylish jerseys in this era, but really, neither is Croatia and they have the most identifyable uniforms in international soccer. These old jerseys were a better representation of the United States. About half the teams in the World Cup can have navy, white and red uniforms, but if the US still had stars it would be instantly identifyable.

I personally think those old school uniforms would look way cooler than what we have now and I don't know why they would change to something so bland and boring.

There was nothing wrong with the goal that they got disallowed. Should be daylight between the attacker and the last defender and no way was there.

Just turned it on, halftime now but Ghana is still winning..this is huge for the US, although it means Ghana is going to be even that much harder to beat next week. Anyway, the US had an awful first game in the tune-up matches and then came through in the second two, so I'm hoping that can happen today.

That sucks, because if he wasn't tackled he definately would have scored but then the PK went off the bar. I don't remember any sporting event besides this World Cup where I would yell when watching alone.

CR is lucky that the ball hit the wood... he beat Cech hard on that PK.

GOOOOOOOOAAAAAL GHANA

2-0 in the 82nd minute!

It was inevitable, they were walking through the Czech defense through the whole second half. Not as good news for the US anymore. Isn't this the first African team to win?

What's been great about this game is that Ghana has remained on the attack after taking the lead, instead of changing their whole team into defenders.

Btw has anyone noticed how patronising the ITV coverage has been towards the African/Black teams? The other day they talked about the 'brave' Trinidad and Tobago, the 'spirited' Angola and something equally as stomach churning for Togo:n:

Looks like the Czechs underestimated Ghana, they looked like shit. Ghana shoulda won like 4-0, if it weren't for the missed penalty and other opportunities. Let's see if the U.S can at least get a tie.

I think Croatia have a better defence than us, and that if we only lose 1-0 Monday will be declared a national public holiday.

My arse it will be, who will make that call, little Johnny? The cunt probably heard World Cup and sent a fax to the Wallabies wishing them well. Cunt is just like so many millions of people here who have no idea about football culture. Should have been a national holiday the day after we beat U-r-gay but no instead they're threatening to turn the large off the large screen at Federation Square if the crowd gets too "rowdy" tomorrow night. :| :| :| Really just amazes me. :|

Tornado

The first red on the Italian player was justified, no excuse for that embow to the face of McBride.
The second on the American player was a judgment call really, it was a nasty looking two footed challange.
As for the third, it was another recklass challange by a player already on a yellow, so also justified I think.

Rob Ban Fan
06-17-2006, 04:22 PM
I didn't think the second one was a red, it wouldn't have been a red in the premiership. It was just a bit of a late challenge really.

I will go as far to say that is the biggest US result ever, moreso than any of the games in 2002. Portugal was a big win, but a fluke, and Mexico in South Korea isn't a giant upset. Tying this Italian team with only nine players in the second half on European soil to stay alive, this game was played much better. At least, it is better than 1998, at best a trip to the next round isn't out of reach at all. They've just got to start finishing.

One question, why didn't the US use its last sub for the last 10 minutes or so?

The Miz
06-17-2006, 05:30 PM
That was retarded by Arena. He had to use those subs with only 9 guys. Beasley was the only player playing with any energy and its because he was a sub.

RoXer
06-17-2006, 05:34 PM
WORD. Where was EJ?

BCWWF
06-17-2006, 05:41 PM
I thought for sure they were going to put him in with 10 minutes left, and the US was still making runs down to the Italian goal at the point. Then they didn't put him in and the US had no possession for the rest of the game. It seems like a replacement for Reyna to play in the defense wouldn't have been a bad move, but it's all good now I guess.

SammyG
06-17-2006, 06:11 PM
So now Italy has to beat the Czechs and the USA has to beat Ghana right? In order to get squashed by Brazil?

BCWWF
06-17-2006, 06:26 PM
Yep. If that scenario happens:

Italy: 7
USA: 4
Ghaha: 3
Czech: 3

I'm not sure, but I think that is the only way it can work. Of course Czech Republic is in if it wins, but if it ties Italy the best the US can do is tie them in points. If the US and Ghana tie, then Ghana would go on with 4 points.

You kidding me? He has the worst cardio I've ever seen in football. He was gasping for air after maybe 5 minutes and barely (I didn't see one myself) made proper sprints to chase down balls. Landon Donovan totally showed him.

How his goal never stood however is a fucking mystery.

BCWWF
06-18-2006, 01:00 AM
That first red card on Mastroeni was rediculous. It was a foul, yes, a yellow card, likely, but a red card was awful. Then taking Pope out afterwards too. I seriously think the US would have scored another goal if Mastroeni was still in, it seemed inevitable that they would finish one. That is just in response to Tornado.

But now it is going to make it much harder to win in the next game. Pablo is key to our team and was playing really well in that game. Eddie Pope can pretty easily be replaced by John O'Brien, but the center midfield is going to be a questionmark.

My observations from that match:

1. Landon Donovan is the man (this is from an America-hating Canadian, so shut up)

2. Italy were playing like bastards. Fucking lazy wops.

3. Worst ref ever. Even with the gayed up new FIFA rules, the guy had no clue what good officiating was.

4. That Johnson guy is retarded. Pretty much ruined a good chance for the US to look good internationally. Glad he didn't play today.

5. Did I mention how shitty the ref was?
