It's not the first time Zidane has assaulted someone on the pitch. It's just the most high profile. He was banned for two games in the 1998 World Cup for stamping on a Saudi and had a massive ban for Juventus the season before he left for headbutting someone during a Champions League game.
Materazzi has been involved in plenty of scraps on the pitch but so has Zidane.
It annoys the piss out of me that the Italians are so talented, but instead of playing like they should be they choose to tear around the pitch being complete and utter cunts.
The Australian team has more cunts in its squad than most others. Lucas Neill being a prime example.

They probably deserved it though. After all, it's not like this prick can do wrong.

I don't think anyone here has said what Zidane did wasn't wrong.

Lol at Peter Crouch. Just no relevance at all, but it's Crouch, so it's hilarious.
Yeah Crouchy is funny, he's Northern but has a southern accent:y:
I don't think anyone here has said what Zidane did wasn't wrong.
I'm saying it. You can't go around hitting everyone when you are pissed off. And if you are gonna, there are times and places to do it and this wasn't one of them.
It's doing down in history that he heabutted an opponent out of nowhere in the World Cup final and got sent off and cost his country a chance of winning the World Cup. Nobody in 5 years is gonna remember what was said or wasn't. Nobody knows now for fuck sake.

The best reply would have been skinning Materazzi and sticking the ball in the top corner. Or scoring that free header.

That's if they get their act together soon, otherwise we might be talking Australia 2010.

Exactly. Finally a man with a brain.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was England (and Scotland) 2010.

the aussies are the back-up plan
I don't believe that. All the rumours I have heard are USA are the back up. When they thought previous tournaments would fall through, England was always considered a back up ever since Euro 96.

The way I head it is that South Africa will host in '10 (with Australia as the back-up) then the Aussies will get it in '14 while the US has a solid shot at hosting in '18 followed by Mexico, England, and Brazil (any of which could pull the 2014 & 2018 spots really).

Come on now, you don't have to like Australia but that's just "bein' silly". Lucas Neill is no angel, nobody's arguing that he is. When it comes to being a cunt on a football pitch though, he isn't even in the same league as Messrs Totti and Materazzi, et al.

I shudder to think that we may be called upon to host this World Cup if South Africa falls through. Surely they're better equipped than us to host it.
In Australia, I can think of 2 dedicated rectangular stadiums which could possibly be World Cup standard; Suncorp up here and Aussie down in Sydney. Hindmarsh in Adelaide needs a roof at the ends and Olympic Park in Melbourne should be after its upgrade.
Of course, Telstra Dome, Telstra Stadium and the MCG would also be used, as would Subiaco and/or the new one over there which is apparently being built. The Gabba, ANZ Stadium, possibly Penrith Stadium and the SCG could also be used as backup.
That gives us 12, 7 of which aren't even the right shape for football. Add to that the fact that Olympic Park and the MCG, and Aussie Stadium and the SCG are both right next to each other and there'll constantly be enormous bottlenecks in both cities.
Speaking of which, don't even get me started on the traffic infrastructure. Having experienced Sydney traffic last year, I'm lost as to how they managed to survive hosting the Olympics down there. Absolute fucking disaster.
Lastly, the impact it would have on the other sports here would be enormous. Both rugby league and aussie rules seasons would have to be shut down, probably even missed entirely in getting venues ready and using them for the World Cup. That's not going to sit well, especially with Eddie shinyarse McGuire etc down in Melbourne.
So I sincerely hope we're not being considered as a backup to South Africa. Even Greece managed to be ready for their Olympics. Surely with the dedicated rugby stadiums over there, South Africa is a lot more suited to hosting it anyway.

South Melbourne Hellas' Bob Jane Stadium can be used for all teams as a training venue, since it is a proper football stadium.
Good to see all the premiers and Prime Minister back the Football F(uckwits)ederation Australia in a bid for World Cup 2018. Even though I think Johnny Howard believes it's for the rugby not the football.

No. I consider breaking other footballers legs worse than insulting them or spitting on them. Forget that bollocks people come out with, with the worst thing for a footballer is to get a serious injury and Lucas Neill is really good at handing out serious injuries.

I wasn't aware that South Africa was behind schedule? I'd love to see it come back to the United States sometime soon, so I could appreciate it this time. At the same time though, I think it would be better to go elsewhere first. From what I read there was some random controversy with going back to AFL in 2014 since Austrailia isn't in Oceania anymore, but I think it would be a good place to host the World Cup. After that, I would rather have a South American country take it, or else Canada or something, because the US shouldn't have it twice in 14 years. In a few more years the US will be a great place to have it again, but there are a lot of deserving countries that I would rather see have it first.

Did you expect him to do any different, Dornholio?
I would have expected Zidane to headbutt him in the head, Toxic Poofter.
They should go back to hosting it in Europe every 8 years. It was fucking stupid they Blatter stopped it. This is the kinda thing that happens when you push for South Africa to get a tournament they have no business hosting. They don't have a clue what they are doing and their bid wasn't close to the best one.

From ESPN.com (http://www.espn.com)
Bruce Arena raised expectations to a new level. They ultimately doomed him. Now that the winningest coach in U.S. Soccer history is out, the American dream rests on a German, Jürgen Klinsmann.

You just know they're gonna replace him with someone who can actually keep his mouth shut, and then it won't be so absolutely fucking hilarious when the yanks get stuffed every time :(

Fuck that, just play all the games at the MCG, Telstra Dome & Telstra Stadium because those are the only stadiums in Australia which can hold a decent crowd. (Just as long as they play it inbetween footy & cricket season & don't allow any immigrants or tourists into the country)

It seems like a pretty logical step. I know Klinsmann said he needs some time off, so I don't know if the US will need to hire a coach for some tournament before he is ready. If Klinsmann is going to coach again, why not start in two years for World Cup qualifying? It would be one thing if he was living in New England or something, but it is at least 15 hours of travel from Southern California to Europe.

They can't do that. The only time the World Cup can really be played is between May and August.
Otherwise it'd just completely piss off all the top European clubs who basically own the game.

Play it in February or October & make all the Euro clubs change their fixtures to fit in with us.
