Thanks to reader Sean Freeman for the following:
I just saw a pretty interesting commercial for Wrestlemania on the FX Network in Atlanta, GA. This new Wrestlemania commercial not only clearly stated what matches will take place but also who will make a "special" guest appearance.
The following matches, according to the commercial, are scheduled to take place:
1) Triple H vs. Batista for the World Heavyweight Title
2) JBL vs. Cena for the WWE Title
3) Shawn Michaels vs. Kurt Angle
4) Randy Orton vs. The Undertaker
Even though the first three matches seemed to be a lock for the card, we now can clearly add Randy Orton vs. The Undertaker to that list. I guess the rumors to the Randy Orton heel turn may actually have some truth to them.
Also, there will be a special guest appearance by none other than STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN! I guess that "movie" relationship had a little bit more to it.

It's going to be face vs face. No time to build it up as Heel/babyface. But, I think there going along these lines. Orton beats Taker, I hope cleanly and with the RKO. Orton celebrates like he just won the million dollar jack pot. He's jumping around the ring and going crazy while Taker is still down. Taker gets to his knees and puts his hand out for Orton to help him up. Orton helps him up....BAM ANOTHER RKO. Orton then spits on him and does that pose right over him and says "The Legend Killer is Back."

Totally agree with this, and I can definitely see something like that happening.
What I see happening with Orton/Taker, is that both men will enter the match as faces. The fans will then naturally start siding with Taker (if Orton's face reactions of late have been of any indication).
After Wrestlemania, I think a heel Orton will challenge Batista.
Orton will use his "concussion" suffered at the Royal Rumble as an excuse as to why he didn't beat Triple H. He'll say how if he hadn't had that concussion, then he would've won the title, etc.

As i see it, Orton would lay out a challenge to face Taker at WM, leading to a face vs. face encounter. Fans side with the Taker. Orton pretty much dominates Taker (nailing him with a few RKOS with Taker no-selling), but Taker barely eeks by with a win via tombstone. Poor Orton is left in the ring being booed, and shows his frustration in the backstage area.
Following night, Triple H and Flair somehow lay the beatdown to Batista, with Orton seemingly coming to make the save, only to RKO Batista out of nowhere, therefore making Orton rejoin Evolution and clearly having him be a full-fledged heel.

What about Orton losing to Taker, then RKO'ing his own dad later in the show when the Hall Of Fame thing is on?
Now I would f'ing markout to that.....

Cowboy Bob could cme out, accept his award, then comment on his son as the 'legend killer, apart from tonight'. Then out comes Randy, beating down on him.
Taker won't drop his record.

And even better, he can do promos hyping his oldschool return, with a dark "gothic" atmosphere, only to come back as a hick with a new hat!

Yeah I like your idea.
I would do basically the same thing.
The other thing I would do is on RAW after Mania, have Orton skip the show. He could cut a promo "via satellite" and say "The Legend Killer is back" (I like that), but he couldn't make it to RAW. Of course he's not there because he's scared of Taker (who would be there for the draft). Orton would figure by not showing up for RAW he wont have to face him. Orton would get whats coming to him though, because he would get drafted to SD. That would allow his program with Taker to continue on SD.
If they have him lose they are drunk.

The problem with Orton rejoining Evolution would be that he could never be the Heavyweight Champion again unless Triple H 'accepts' Orton. Otherwise, it would be pretty much the same as his first title reign.

The answer is obvious to us, but not to the WWE.
Look at Jericho/Michaels. Chris would have benefited from that victory GREATLY, but instead, he loses clean. Of course, he low blowed Shawn after the match, so in the end he got over more... right? :nono:
I can see something like that happened at Mania 21, just cause Vince and company don't know what the fuck they're doing.

I like LC's idea of the Orton turn...I would go crazy if that happened. I like orton better as a heel anyways.
A great idea of turning Orton heel before mania could of been...Last Raw HBK told Orton that he needed to make an impact...so the next Smackdown show he runs in during Takers match and gives him the RKO...thus laying down the challenge and the fans realize hes a bad guy now...but then on Raw you have to recap it and all the crap because more people watch Raw than Smackdown....
you know what forget my idea....go LC and his idea.

If they wanted to do this right, then this whole thing with HBK will help turn him. Everytime I see Orton and HBK after their match ends, I'm just waiting for Orton to hit an RKO on Shawn. Evem though Orton's face, he still has that real cocky heel like attitude, and I'm just waiting for him to turn on Stacy or HBK.
So basically what will happen will be Austin comes in. Stuns a few people has a few beers leaves and thats done. ( They could probably save some money and fit a impromptu Diva Contest instead)

I agree, let's say Orton beats Taker at Mania; but not cleanly. Maybe Orton puts his feet on the ropes or something, so his feud with Taker can continue if Orton goes to SD. On TV, Taker should get the upper hand for a while. Orton should only be able to pull off a beat down once and a while. Then let's say at the next SD PPV Orton beats Taker cleanly, then spits in the face of Taker.

Orton really should beat Taker cleanly. The cheating stuff has been so overdone and it's just blahhh now. He needs a strong win and by pinning a legend of the WWE, who's undefeated at Mania, smack in the center of the ring would shoot his career right up again. Do you guys remember a little match at Mania 10 called Bret vs Owen Hart? What happened there? Owen pinned Bret cleanly and his ego took off and Owen couldn't cut a promo without saying "I beat you Bret, I'm the #1 Hart, I deserve the Title."
I mean when you guys were kids and you beat someone older then you in some kind of game, didn't that get your ego going and thikning that you were the best ever? Same kind of thing here.

Steve Austin will be appearing on the cover of the next WWE Raw magazine with the caption: "Stunner! The Exclusive Story Behind Stone Cold's Return, Mick Foley is billed to appear on Dennis Millers show tonight on CNBC which airs at 9 p.m. est time and There are video vignettes already being produced for Randy Orton vs. Undertaker at WrestleMania 21.
The original plan was to turn Randy Orton heel again, but he practically begged to remain baby face. There's no word on whether his begging was effective or not, but it's not likely that WWE management will be doing him any favors. As previously reported, management isn't very happy with his backstage and road antics
and former TNA superstar Frankie Kazarian might very well be skipping OVW and go straight to the main roster though the show is unknown

Yeah you dont need to have Orton cheat to turn him.
An awesome thing would be for Taker to lose clean and then extend a hand, Orton could go to shake and then drop Taker with another RKO. That'll turn him right there.....or it might make him the biggest face in the company....no wait, shows not in Toronto.

Yeah I read that too, dont know if its true, but I read it.
He's just better as a heel, thats the bottom line.
Loose Cannon
02-25-2005, 10:23 PM
I can see why. He's seen the business and probably realizes that switching back and forth quickly like this isn't really a good thing. Angle did this all the time. Booker is another one and Eddie is about to switch again. But Orton sucks as a face and is really good as a heel, so it's really a no-brainer here.
Actually, I've read that Eddie Guerrero is going to remain a face and his match against Rey will be another face vs. face encounter. Kind of ridiculous to have all these face/face showdowns considering a good guy vs. bad guy storyline is so much easier (and often more interesting) way to build up a feud.
I think Randy needs to turn heel again to get back over to where he was before Summerslam. His face turn has been a complete and total flop - period. He has every reason to turn heel, from a storyline perspective and from a real life perspective as well. He's a white meat baby face, but he's not good enough on the mic to make it work. His heel persona is so much better, because he is a good looking guy, and he does have a lot going for him, and when he brags about it it generates instantaneous heat.
Not to mention the fact that if he does go into Mania against Taker as a face, he's going to get booed out of the arena during the match. This won't be a Rock vs. Hogan type match where the fans go back and forth throughout, and both men come out as huge faces when its over. If Orton tries to play the face role throughout and actually wins clean, and then decides not to use this to his advantage to boost his cocky heel image, the fans are going to shit all over it.
Besides, a heel Randy Orto with a big victory over an established legend like The Undertaker makes him the perfect person to step up against Batista after he wins the title at Mania. I really don't see any way that that plan could fail.
I guess we'll see how things develop in the next few weeks.
The CyNick
02-26-2005, 01:02 PM
Yeah there are a lot of potential face vs face matches on this show.
Face vs Face can be great (Austin v Rock) but it can also make for a dead crowd, as the fans dont want to take sides.
However, I do think this could be used for an angle at Mania.
The way it looks they'll have 3 face-face matches; Benoit-Jericho, Rey-Eddie and Orton-Taker. With the Benoit and Eddie matches I would have them set up similarly, they tag, they have some falling out, leads to a match at Mania.
At Mania after the Benoit-Jericho match we get a handshake to bury the hatchet, ditto for Rey-Eddie (crowd in LA should eat this one up), I would even have a handshake at the end of the Angle-HBK match. Even though were by no means friends, I would have them do a true respect handshake. Say when HBK extends his hand to Kurt, the commentators could say "well we've seen displays of respect in the previous two matches, but I dont expect that here". But Kurt does in fact shake his hand.
That leads to Taker-Orton. Few will expect Orton to win, but of course he will (should I mean). Fans should be a little shocked by this, and Taker could get up after the loss, look all mean like and spin Orton around...dramatic pause.....extends the hand. Commentators say "well this has been a night about respect, and now its Orton's turn to show respect". Orton grabs Takers hands, shakes it, pulls him back in and spits in his face!!! Orton then hits the RKO and does his "I'm a prick" pose over Taker.
I think that would be a cool way to turn him, and it makes the other matches (which should be just great matches on their own) part of a larger overall story for the night.
I read somewhere that it might be Jericho and Benoit vs. Hassan and Divari at Mania.
Great way to use their top two technical wrestlers.... a tag match against a cherry and a non-wrestler.
