Anyone know what mode of a scale you play in order to get that "middle Eastern" sort of sound?

It almost sounds minor, but doesn't quite have the same qualities (or my ears are playing tricks) of natural, harmonic or melodic minor.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but do you mean like a sitar?

I dunno what kind of audio set up you have, but when I set it to like a light distortion/bluesy kind of thing, and play on the high frets, it sounds like middle eastern stuff.

For getting the sound, it also helps to play in a fairly tight chorus effect.

YEAH. I tried using chorus-light and it sounded like perfect.

I thought it was the descending melodic minor which gave that sound.

I took my music theory a while ago though :s.

Melodic minor is played ascending with a raised 6th and 7th. Descending, it's played as a natural minor.
