Anyone able to help me?
Anyone know what mode of a scale you play in order to get that "middle Eastern" sort of sound?
It almost sounds minor, but doesn't quite have the same qualities (or my ears are playing tricks) of natural, harmonic or melodic minor. “There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”--John Rogers |

I have no idea what you're talking about, but do you mean like a sitar?

I dunno what kind of audio set up you have, but when I set it to like a light distortion/bluesy kind of thing, and play on the high frets, it sounds like middle eastern stuff.

I thought it was the descending melodic minor which gave that sound.
I took my music theory a while ago though :s. Last edited by packt up; 01-18-2004 at 10:55 PM. Reason: mixed melodic with harmonic |

Melodic minor is played ascending with a raised 6th and 7th. Descending, it's played as a natural minor.
