Division Champs:
Northeast: Ottawa

Atlantic Division: Philadelphia
Central Division: Detroit
Pacific Division: San Jose
Northwest: Edmonton
I personally think this is going to be the year for the Ottawa Senators to win the Cup. I have a great feeling with these new rules. My only concern is if Hasek gets injured. (ps I'm not saying this because I'm a homer either)
For the scoring title I'm going with Iginla.

Chicago is my surprise team. Thye have last 2003 calgary Flmaes written all over them.
Scoring title is gonna go to Joe Thornton this year in my opinion. IF by some strange reason the Leafs don't win it this year, it'll probably be Ottawa.

And Montreal will last up to the Conference Finals.

The divisions are so drastic. Like the Northwest, preseason any of those five teams could be in the playoffs, its just up to which one(s) choke. Same goes for the Northeast (minus Buffalo maybe). Then the Pacific is pretty horrible. MAKE SOME CHANGES, GIVE THE WILD A CHANCE.

09-27-2005, 12:06 AM
The Wild had an eternity to make changes, but they remained totally stagnent during this "off-season". It's their own stupid fault for not improving their team while the other 25-odd teams in the league did.
BCWWF

Actually the Wild had a great offseason by not wasting money on any overpriced aging veterans. The teams with a bunch of stars, ie the Flyers, Avs, Wings etc., spent all their money on the first line.

I dunno if there is a point picking right now, the way the league is its all going to come down to which rookies/younger players step up
That being said I think Calgary and Vancouver are the two best teams in the league. and if Hasek is good then Ottawa is there too. Nashville will also win their division
And St Louis will challenge for the worst team in the league

Iginla on a top line with Amonte and Lankow will make that probably the 2nd best line in the league. Not to mention the rule changed basically all go in Favour of Calgary in their young ways. A force to be reckoned with.

Nah, Calgary is a hook and hold'em type team. Watching them last season when they were in the playoffs, that was clearly the case.

Lemieux takes the Art Ross, becoming the oldest player to do so.
.... I wish, but hey, 2.75 points per game in preseason, if he can play like that all season and not get hurt, it just might happen.
I think that Heatley, and Spezza should be in the running for the Art Ross. Perhaps Naslund as well.
I don't think that the preseason stats give any certain idea, outside of Heatley, Spezza, and Lemieux. Iggy should end up challenging for the Rocket Richard trophy, but I don't think he'll be in the top 3 for points.

I think Lemieux's goign to have a great season, for the games he plays. I expect him to play ~50-60 games, but I don't see 80-90 points being out of the picture for him. I don't think he'll be Art Ross material, but he'll be within the top 10.
And yeah, I think Spezza's gonna be huge this year

Well they still have Sakic, Hejduk, Tanguay, Selane (I think), Blake, Aebesheir, and a shit load of other players, so I hope they go far. Forsberg isn't even a major loss, he barely played because he was always injured.
Selanne is in Anaheim, but they have everyone else you mentioned and they added a few role players like Andrew Brunette. They're certainly not going to finish 18th in the NHL like SI predicted.

Furthermore I might end up getting tickets right up near the glass (row B) for the Sens/Pens game Feb 6th and the Sens/Florida game Nov 17th and seats just a little higher up for the Sens/Leafs game Dec 17th (Row H). That's not the point though. I just mean 3 shots is too quick. 5 shots gives a team a better chance to get back into the shootout. Afterall this is to determine the winner after 65 minutes of hockey.
KleptoKlown
10-09-2005, 01:53 PM
yeah, but not all teams will have 5 players that can do good on a shootout. The main reason they're doing this is for the "wow" factor. The loosing team still gets 1 point.
I dunno, I think 3 is fine.

I can see teams adding players to their roster for the shoot out. I'm sure you'd want someone that can play the entire game, but where else can one player be so decisive. Shootout specialists.
KleptoKlown
10-09-2005, 02:53 PM
well if they got speed and stickhandling capabilities, chances are you're going to play these shootout specialists during regulation as well ;)
if by 3 shots, they go into a sudden death mode, and thats more exciting than 5 turn for turn IMO

Not going to lie, I haven't seen much hockey at all yet, I feel like I am already behind after like one week. I don't get OLN and I don't think any Blue's games have been on yet, but my take so far is that there is a lot of parity. Not in a bad way, but it just seems like any team can beat any team on a given night now.

I know who marc savard is, I know that he's started this season hot.
You have a habit of offering 2 players for 1, then dipping into the free agent pool. Not everyone needs depth, and are better off sticking with their 1 player, then 2 players. That's why you're so predictible. What would shock me is to see you take 2 players for 1 of yours in trade. Im even surprised to see a 1 for 1 from you. The only thing that really get me is why people accept your shitty deals.
You already ripped Hurricane off. You saw he needed a goalie...so you offered him a name goalie, on a shit team. He's gonna have a shit GAA and save% no matter what with that team. Even a goalie like Broduer would be useless on that team. Then you took Fernandez...who would have been better to have than Kolzig in the first place. Bergeron is good, but Havalt is better, and can play both wings.
Must be nice living in lala yashland.
Hey, Luongo has had 2 shutouts in 3 games, maybe I should offer him and Bonk for Hasek, Richards and Jagr.

By the way, to all those who said my Theodore-bashing was not justified, there's an entire page in the journal plus a report on RDS about goalie coach Roland Melanson saying "Theodore's butterfly style has serious flaws in it. He isn't supposed to give out goals like he does when the shot is between his blocker and body." He also says they will work on it and that they will try to rectify the situation quickly. If Theo does indeed change/improve his style, I'll reevaluate my thoughts on him.

also, he's playing on a line with Forsberg and Kovalev
and Foppa's broke Gretzky's goal, points AND assists records. (I've played every game)
Dunno that kind of defeats any sense of accomplishment though lol... not very hard to score manually >.>

Not sure if I ever mentioned here on TPWW, but I said to buddies at work that if Brian Burke got the GM job in Anaheim, he would get rid of Fedorov.

Time to stir the pot a little. Hopefully this will add some posts to the thread. Ovechkin or Crosby? Who would you rather have on your team.
Personally I would rather have Ovechkin, as he is playing amazing and has nothing in the way of supporting cast. Let this guy play with Mario and Co. and I believe he puts up insane numbers for a rookie.
Let the debate begin.

Ovechkin.
I think at the end of both of their careers, Crosby will have better numbers and be a better player, but right now Ovechkin all the way.

"we already have 1 Federov, and thats 1 too many"
Brian Burke quoted something like that when he was still the Canucks GM and was asked about signing Sergi.
Im willing to bet Burke drove Federov to the airport, packed his bags, and carried his luggage..

I'd take Ovechkin too. Maybe in a few years I'll feel differently. Russians can be spectacular when they first break in but often become moody and a headache in the locker room. I can't say that about him right now, and hopefully he doesn't become like that.

Crosby because I feel he is a better all around player than Ovechkin.

Crosby has the scoring touch too but when you play with Lemieux and Palfy and Gonchar and LeClair, you don't have to always try and score like Ovechkin.

I'd take Crosby. He has the scoring abilities but he's also an awesome play maker.

my Favorite was when he told Fedor to buy a house in Winnipeg cause he wouldn't need one in Vancouver.

The Bruins home fans boo'd them off the Ice.
O'Connel is bitching in the press, said they either have to find better players or the current players have to play better.
this is really funny.
Anyway, hockey sucks now...
I liked Cam Neely's line "It went from soccer on skated to figure skating with sticks, I couldn't play today, I'd be in the box all game".
or Raycroft.
"yeah, the new rules suck, I asked one of our D-men why he didn't move a guy and he said 'the two times this game I've touched someone I've been called for cross checking, I'm afraid to touch anyone'"
Yeah, college hockey is where it's at. the NHL sucks, can't wait til they fold...

yeah because College hockey would survive without a professional league for players to get drafted to.
It's been a pretty damn good year of hockey thus far. There's still plenty of physical play, but the players, the stars are also being given to truly shine with the reduction of the clutch and grab.

Geeze I wonder why the Bruins would be complaining? Maybe because they aren't built for the new NHL.

lol weren't they the ones supposed to be awesome in the NHL since they started with no payroll
btw pretty much all the teams that were good before and had high payrolls are still the best teams.
Good to see the cap is working
