FORMER WWE WORLD CHAMPION EDDIE GUERRERO PASSES AWAY
by Mike Johnson @ 11:01:00 AM on 11/13/2005

I am very saddened to report that former WWE World champion Eddie Guerrero has passed away. WWE's website is reporting Guerrero was found this morning in his Minneapolis hotel room. PWInsider.com will have more on this story shortly, as well as a look back on his career.

I'm convinced they were going to put the title on him on Tuesday. He struggled immensely before when having the title, not believing in himself etc.

Yes, Jericho appearing would be nice. I see Malenko works backstage so hopefully he can have a part in it too as he came over with Eddie to the WWE. This really, really, really, really sucks, Eddie was one of my favorites from ECW, to WCW, to WWE. When him and Benoit hugged after Benoit won the title at WM20, that was one of my favorite WWE moments of all time.

this is very very sad as most are in wrestling deaths. I knew he had demons he was battling, and at Summer Slam 2005 i met him down at the Hyatt hotel after the show and he was ordering a drink while i was getting a water. He was very nice and looked DRAINED, i just thought it was because of his great ladder match with rey rey.

I sincerely hope the darker side of life (drugs) didnt get the best of him. I was also happy when he won the WWE title. That moment was great and so was Wrestlemania 20 with he and Benoit hugging in the middle of the ring like "we busted our ass for years and it finally paid off..." this is just very sad...

I very rarely watched WCW and remember seeing Eddie for the first time when the Radicalz came to Raw. The frogsplash he did on the Road-Dog still imprints on my mind as a mark-out moment.

But thats what Eddie had, that very few can say they have, he had IT. The ability to play a face, a cocky hell, a cowardly heel, a 'tweener'. He was the main man on SD for as long as I can remember, holding both the Tag Titles and US Title at the same time. The night he went home to El Paso, and the crowd going more wild then I've ever seen any crowd while I've been watching. Winning the title from Brock in shocking style, and of course the show stealing promo with Benoit at WM20, culminating in the greatest Wrestlemania moment.

I'm hoping Eddie is sitting upstairs, watching these moments and says to himself, 'yeah, I was damn good'.

Speculation.

Remember, he was a drug addict in the past, and that can take a heavy toll on your body even decades after you quit. A lot of people think he may have turned back to them, but it's quite possible he had already suffered severe damage in the past.

I think if they WERE going to, then in my honest opinion, history of the belt or not, they should retire the it, and bring back the old WWF/E title belt.

Why the fuck are you guys talking about who should win the fucking belt now?

Eddie means more than some bloody belt.

My point was not over who wins it, but about a tribute to him at the end of the show.

If they have any title matches this week, then the WWE should burn in hell.

This is true, but you can bet that they're having this same conversation in Stamford. Tragic as Eddie's death is, the show must go on. He would have wanted it that way.

Yes, but this thread shouldn't be about the title situation now.

This should be strictly about Eddie's death.

So I'm sitting at my computer mauling over the news and my dad came and sat down. I pointed to the screen and his jaw dropped. He said that Eddie was in a good storyline with Batista and was wondering what he died of. He immediately thought it was the steriods. I told him it could have been all the hard drugs he used to do. He pointed out that he is just a character and people die everyday but it is very unfortunate when anybody passes. Especially somebody who's on TV every week. I thought I'd share that.

But when its somebody that you follow every week for years, someone you get behind and support. Someone's who's 'characters' life you believe in, and can emphisise with. I come from the fucking UK for godssake, and still remember beaming for several days when he won the title.

Eddie Guerrero was more than a character, he was someone in which MILLIONS of people found inspiration in, for lots of reasons. For his comeback from drug related problems to reach the TOP of his profession. For the fact, he lost his family, won them back through hard work, pain and suffering.

Much of his character I believed in, as it was close to his real life difficulties. The fact that he had self-confidence issues when champion is somethign I very much related to.

Yeah, it's sad when anyone dies, but hell, when its someone you respect and care for, it's a lot harder.

Eddie was a big part of the title situation, that's why it's being brought up. YEs it's awful but seriously, the world doesn't stop when one person dies. A lot of the time of death people bring up really stupid things. The only personal thing 99% of people on these boards know about Eddie is that he's a Championship WWE Wrestler, so that's what will be discussed. That is one way some people will cope. This thread should not involve bashing anybody else's opinion and how they want to deal with this loss

I was honestly speechless. See, I've fallen out of watching wrestling (I haven't watched in over a month), so I haven't been hitting the wrestling message boards, news sites, or WWE.com like I use to. Wrestling just is not exciting to me anymore. But there was one guy out of WWE's entire line up that I could count on for a good match and that was Eddie Guerrero. No B.S. That's the way I've thought of him for many years now. I was so freaking estatic when he won the title and like many others have already said Benoit and Eddie standing in middle of the ring at WM20 is my favorite memory of the last few years of wrestling.

Thank you for the memories, Eddie. You will be missed.

Calm down. Maybe a bad choice of wording, but forgive me for not being eloquant at this time. My point was, Chris is Eddie's best friend, so they may do it as a gesture to Eddie, as the whole show(s) are about him. Wasn't meant negatively as all, as I miss Eddie big time. I was just trying to put across that they may do something along those lines seeing as how it's seemingly wrestling protocol to do something like that as a tribute to him.

Still trying to get over how much this sucks, and, although it won't bring him back, I only hope that it wasn't his demons that beat him, so that Eddie's story can at least end with that victory.

Poor Chavo. :(

'Eddie Guerrero was found in his hotel room in Minneapolis with his toothbrush in his mouth. He apparently died while brushing his teeth. At this point, the belief among WWE personnel is that Guerrero died of heart failure.

Shortly after Guerrero's body was found and removed from the room, Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, Dean Malenko and Chavo Guerrero visited the hotel room to say their goodbyes. WWE wrestlers and staffers were visibly shaken and emotional while leaving the hotel to go the Target Center, the site of tonight's Raw/Smackdown taping. Word from WWE sources is that the tenor of tonight's taping will be dramatically different and that the Smackdown show will need to be revised.

Guerrero's death is now the lead story on WWE.com, under the headline "Tragic Loss". The article says that WWE is "deeply saddened" by Guerrero's death, and provides no further details on his passing.

Eddie Guerrero had breakfast this morning with Chavo Guerrero and at least one other wrestler, then returned to his hotel room. When he didn't come out of his room in the expected amount of time, friends went looking for him and found him dead.

Guerrero has a long history of battling pain pill addiction, a struggle that was chronicled in a UPN special last year which is now on DVD. There is no firm confirmation, though, at this time, that his death was related to his lifelong battle.

I can not believe what i am hearing. I think I feel sick now. I've heard of all the stories of how many death-defying experiences he had. But now, to lose his life over something he had no control over is even worse. RIP Eddie, you will be missed. :'( :wavesad:

Very sad to hear this news.

I tried going to PWInsider.com and the website won't even work. Anyways, I'm glad TNAWrestling.com acknowledged the death. Just very sad that this had to happen, regardless the reason.

This has shook me up so much, that I'm literally in tears here.

Eddie Guerrero... fuck, I can't put into words what I want to, and even if I said, someone else in this thread has probably said what I want to say a million times better.

Rest in peace, Eddie, and God bless your family.

This is unbeleivable, I am not usualy one to over react at a situation like this with someone I dont know but I have followed Eddie since his ECW days. And even when I was at my markiest and hated heels as i was supposed to something about Eddie always shone through and made me want to see him wrestle, and win.

This is the biggest blow suffered by not only the WWE but wrestling as a profession for many, many years. Eddie was the success story for wrestlers to model themselves on, he was the wrong height, the wrong ethnicity and he did a lot of bad things with drugs and alcohol and yet he overcame all that to break through and be one of the biggest draws wrestling has seen in recent years.

I know gates didnt always show it but there is no doubt in my mind that Eddie kept wrestling strong during his tenure as champion.

I know it will probably never be read but my deepest condolences go out to all the WWE wrestlers and staff who knew him but most of all too his family.

RIP Eddie Guerrero One of the true greats of all time.
