Yeah the release date is just "2007" right now. But here's the latest news.
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/tnaimpact/news.html?sid=6152439
Last November, Midway announced that it was stepping into the ring with the up-and-coming federation TNA Wrestling and going after THQ's undisputed US wrestling game championship. But instead of the wild, chair-throwing, body-slamming, pull-apart brawl that usually follows such a revelation in the world of pro wrestling, there's been very little movement on TNA iMPACT! (working title) since.
However, grappling gamers looking forward to the title will be pleased to learn that development on the game "geared up in a major way" last week, according to a news post on the official site of TNA Wrestling. According to the federation, Midway is set to brainstorm ideas for the game with Samoa Joe and AJ Styles, a pair of stars from the company's high-flying, hard-hitting "X-Division." According to TNA, both are hardcore gamers.
The visual side of the game is also set to be defined soon, as Styles and Jeff Jarrett will be undergoing motion-capture sessions for the game at Midway's Los Angeles studio. Styles and Jarrett will be the first characters designed in the game, with "many more" to come.
The news post also mentions that the game "will be available for all new generation systems including Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3." Midway's original announcement of the game also mentioned that it had the exclusive rights to publish PC and handheld games based on the federation as well.
The game is currently being developed at Midway's LA studio, which worked on Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. Before it was acquired by the publisher, it was known as Paradox Development, creators of the Backyard Wrestling series of games.

If Midway has a quarter of a brain they'd rip off all the good ideas of the SvR series and improve on the 'so-simple-how'd-they-miss-it' features. Saint's Row banked off that concept. Not the most noble practice in game development but in the end we don't complain.

December 13, 2006 - With Samoa Joe and AJ Styles working with Midway as consultants on the new TNA videogame, it's only fitting that the first two characters to debut in a teaser trailer are The Phenomenal One and The Samoan Submission Machine.
"I haven't liked a wrestling game since the N64," Styles told me during a recent interview, "so I'm going to make sure they get this right."
Samoa Joe feels the same: ""When they told us we were getting a videogame, we knew it was up to us to make sure it was good. The first day they came to talk to me and A.J., they knew we were adamant about the game being, not just good, but special, and we came in with three-to-four pages of suggestions. Stuff that worked in past games, stuff that hasn't worked, and they were pretty damn amazed by the level of detail and some of the stuff we came up with. We're definitely pushing the next-gen envelope. We're a game that's going to run at 60 frames-per-second, we're going to pump up the action, and pump up the violence level like only Midway does. Midway has a history of stylized violent games, and the TNA game should have that same type of flair."
So here it is, the debut trailer for TNA iMPACT. The game won't be out until early 2008, but at least this gives you a sense of what the Impact Zone and character models will look like when the game finally ships.

TNA Impact! Impressions
Midway's reentry into the wrestling game business isn't going to happen until next year, but the company does have a few things to say about it.
By Jeff Gerstmann, GameSpot
Posted Jan 26, 2007 4:08 pm PT
Midway recently held a press event to discuss some of its upcoming lineup. While the main focus was on games coming out later in 2007, attendees also got another quick glimpse at the trailer for TNA Impact!, the wrestling game currently under development in Midway's Los Angeles studio.
The trailer was originally released back in December, and it shows AJ Styles and Samoa Joe entering the "Impact Zone" and briefly punching at each other in the ring. The two are also working directly with Midway as consultants on the game and are said to be heavily involved. The version of the trailer shown at the event goes on for a second or two longer and ends with a few quick flashes of other TNA wrestlers, including Jeff Jarrett, who appears to be holding up his trademark guitar. The only other official asset for the game thus far is a promotional shot featuring the TNA logo and three polygonally rendered wrestlers, AJ Styles, Monty Brown, and Jeff Hardy. The image is most definitely out of date, because Brown and Hardy no longer compete in TNA.
As for the game itself, details are few and far between. The game will duplicate the six-sided ring found in TNA and will feature many different match types. The ability to create your own wrestler is another feature that the team is currently considering. The team contains some heavy-duty Midway veterans, including people who have worked on such games as NFL Blitz, NBA Jam, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing, and more.
TNA Impact! is currently scheduled for release in the first half of 2008 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. We'll have more on this one later in the year.

At TNA's Bound For Glory pay-per-view this weekend, Midway Games will be holding a major media launch for "TNA Impact: The Video Game." This is the first pro wrestling video game associated with a major promotion other than WWE since WCW shutdown in 2001. The game is scheduled to be released in May for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and Playstation 2.
Both Samoa Joe and AJ Styles have spent a lot of time with Midway producers fine-tuning all the details of the game. So far the following as been confirmed:
- The Impact video game will feature 20 TNA performers that are all customizable within the game. Top names on the game include Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, Sting, Christian Cage, Jeff Jarrett, Rhino, Abyss, and AJ Styles.
- Kurt Angle, Christian Cage, Sting, and Jeff Jarrett will be featured on the cover of the game.
- The Six-Sided ring will be included in the game and will feature the TNA specialty matches The Ultimate X, The King of The Mountain, and tag team matches and Fatal Four Ways. Midway is teasing that the game will feature "Online Tournaments".
- A story mode will be included into the game that is said to be similar to WWE video games. Story mode will allow players to create and choose a career path based on decisions that they take during the storyline. Gamers will be able to choose the look of their character as well as their managers who will specialize in different fighting styles.
- Mini games will be included in the game as they will be played to help enhance a character's appearance and abilities as well as unlock hidden features in the game.
- There will also be a Create A Wrestler mode where you will be able to create your very own performer.

10-09-2007, 02:18 AM
Ok, so TNA has 49 wrestlers, yet they're only putting in 20...Now if we leave out the woman/managers there's 40 wrestlers left. So I'm going to guess the roster is Kurt Angle, Christian Cage, AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Kevin Nash, Samoa Joe, Abyss, Rhino, Jeff Jarret, Jay Lethal, Bubba Deadly, Devon Deadly, James Storm, Chris Harris, Ron Killings, Robert Roode, Scott Steiner, Tyson Tomko, Sting, Eric Young.
Although I do hope MCMG make it in, along with L.A.X and Senshi...

Wow. Only 20? So, what, no tag division? 'Cause if you put LAX, VKM, and Team 3D that's half of the remaining unconfirmed slots right there. Plus you still need (I assume) to squeeze in guys like Ron Killings, Scott Steiner, Chris Harris, and James Storm. Then, what, two X guys to use in Ultimate X? Or do we get Sabin, Shelley, Lethal, Eric Young, and Petey Williams but no Kip or BG?
I really hope that was a typo and they meant 30. Even that's too small, but it's better than 20. Hopefully there's a massive CAW feature that can let you easily make the guys they leave out.

Really looking forward to seeing Ultimate X and KOTM</font>
20 wrestlers doesn't really disappoint me. I hardly play more than 5 in WWE games. That's not saying I don't like to face more than 5 but 20 is plenty. It will most likely be everyone I cared to see anyways, minus a few lower-mid carders I like.
I can't wait to play Ultimate X and KOTM. I'd like to see "different" matches like those put in the WWE games too rather than just different variations of passed matches.

http://img28.picoodle.com/img/img28/9/10/13/f_screenshot1m_b0fd7dd.png
Here's everyone I saw from the video:
Sting
LAX
Kurt Angle
AJ Styles
Chris Sabin
Jeff Jarret
Eric Young
Suicide
Christian Cage
Samoa Joe
Rhino
Abyss
Scott Steiner
So if there's only 20 wrestlers that means we are missing 4. Possibly 5 if that Suicide guy is just a CAW.

In another EXCLUSIVE, our very own Matt Parker has just talked to the PS2 and Wii producers for the game TNA Impact, and they have confirmed that the game will definitely be based on the "unreal engine". We would like to note that although the game will be made based on this engine, it will be slightly modified.
They are also working on defining the Wii remote for excellent gameplay.
For those of that are unaware of what the "unreal engine" is, I suggest you check out the Wikipedia entry on it(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unreal_engine), which includes its history and all of the games that have been based off of it.
-----
We have some more hands on information from our very own Matt Parker and Ransting, who are LIVE! at the TNA event as we speak. They are both seeing some more exclusive feeds of the game and have interviewed more of the game's creators. Here are some notes:
* Introductions: It is confirmed that introductions will NOT BE FULL. The wrestlers do not walk all the way to the ring.
* No Crowd Fighting: There will not be any crowd fighting.
* No Backstage Areas: More than likely, there will NOT be any backstage areas. Season mode will have backstage areas but not trainable.
* Face Models: At the moment, the face models do not change.
* Game Visuals: The visuals of the game are 95% complete.
* Breaking Pins: There is a bottom smash/joystick motion to break up pinfalls.
* Action Pace: The game action is more of a Smackdown pace.
* Blood Questionable: Right now, blood is NOT in. It is questionable as to whether or not blood will make it into the final build of the game.
* Online Play: There will be online play for PS3 and XBox 360, but probably not PS2. Cross console online is a no-go. As for Wii, we don't know yet.
* Weapons: There are some weapons, but we're not sure how many.

Get ready to not like this game even more.
Matt Parker here coming at you LIVE from the TNA EVENT IN ATLANTA! I had a chance to sit down with the developer, rather one of the developers of TNA Impact The Video Game to get YOUR questions answered. Below are the answers and some extra info!
As of now there are 25 wrestlers in the game
Each system WILL have exclusives but they have not been determined as of yet
Season mode will be based fully on the created wrestlers, there will be no season for the standard roster. It starts with the player waking up after plastic surgery in Mexico and then deciding to enter wrestling….
You can defend titles in exhibition mode.
A demo will be available in spring.
You WILL be able to put your music into entrances
There will not be create a entrance. There will be the regular roster’s intros and 10 or so generic to choose from.
Downloadable content is in the planning stages. Something Midway would like to do but are not sure if it will make it.
The “cut off” for the roster and attire is January. They shouldn’t have problem adding people until then.
You cannot fight on the stage or leave the ring area.
Tables are in. Ladders are questionable. I wouldn’t count on flaming tables either.
Commentary is in. It is still very early with only a few phrases hard to tell the final outcome.
Each profile will have 16 CAW spots.
Six sides of steel match is in.
Unlockable content is a yes. Money will be used to unlock things. Not sure what will be unlockable move sets are almost certain.
The game WILL NOT feature any type of ref.
The game will have around 2500 moves.
The game will only feature four wrestlers on the screen period. Four wrestlers online period.
Weight detection will be in. Midway promises game play like no other. I can’t comment on this with the build I played. I will explain this in greater detail later this evening.
Wrestlers will carry belts to the ring around their waists; this is planned as of now.
Area specific damage is in and should play a major role in game play.
The facial expressions WILL CHANGE based on what is happening to the wrestler.
Wrestlers should have two attires in multi colors.
There will be around eight arenas which will be unlocked as you play through story mode.
UPDATE: YOU CANNOT MODIFY WRESTLERS. HOWEVER, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO COPY THEM IN CAW THEN MOD THEM.
The only online mod planned is exhibition.
According to Midway CAWS should look just as real as the preloaded wrestlers.
King of the Mountain is in. How it will work exactly is on the table.
Run-Ins will enter the ring for thity seconds or so then exit or remain ringside they will only help for thirty seconds.
The DPad on the Xbox (this will vary based on each system) controls run-ins. It will also allow you to have a “second wind” and further more perform “dirty moves.” However these will only be able to be done once a match each.
AJ and Samoa have been to at least five game design meetings. As well as Christopher Daniels.
Tag Team Moves are in, 3D is in.
You should be able to do wrestler vs. wrestler. IE Kurt Angle vs. Kurt Angle.
Wii will be online, PS2 will be online.

Homicide
Jay Lethal
Jeff Jarrett
Junior Fatu
Kevin Nash
Kurt Angle
Raven
Rhino
Rick Steiner
Ron Killings
Samoa Joe

Scott Steiner
Sonjay Dutt
Sting
Tomko

That last singles spot that went to Fatu was a bitch to decide. I really wanted to put Petey Williams in for the Canadian Destroyer.

I really doubt they'd leave out Chris Harris and James Storm since they've pretty much been mainstays since TNA started.
I don't think they'll include Rikishi in the game either regardless of cutoff date. And I also doubt the inclusions of Ron Killings and Elix Skipper. If anything I see the roster being something like...
Abyss
AJ Styles
Alex Shelley
Brother Ray
Brother DeVon
Chris Harris

Christian Cage
Christopher Daniels
Eric Young

James Storm
Jay Lethal
Jeff Jarrett
Kevin Nash

Just because they are involved in Mo-Capping, doesn't mean he is confirmed to be in the game.
And Elix has been in TNA off and on during its run, not to mention he really hadn't had the airtime other guys have gotten except when a part of XXX and even then he's taken a backseat to Senshi and Daniels.

I just checked out the new trailer and the Sting vs Angle gameplay video. In all honesty I was pretty impressed, but only because this was an obvious early version of the game. I say that because both Angle and Sting were doing X-Division moves, some of which are exclusive to specific wrestlers. One example was Sting doing the springboard moonsault into a reverse DDT combination made popular by AJ Styles. I'm highly assuming that this is only because the game is still in developement and they just wanted to show off some overall moves.
I really don't care about going back stage or refs. Although I do feel that the developers are not taking advantage of today's technology by leaving these things out. I'm focused on the game play. If I buy this game it will be because I can have fun, realistic matches. If I'm playing as AJ Styles against Christopher Daniels, and I have a fun match full of high spots and good wrestling... I could care less about anything else. I want a game that feels legit, and I'm willing to sacrifice backstage areas and refs to do that. Only time can tell if Midway has truly dropped the ball. If I had to guess I would say they have, but I'm hoping they're not.

See now THAT'S what a next gen wrestling game should look like.
This game looks great. I'm not sure how it's going to turn out but it looks great. I don't really trust all that information that was given earlier in this thread.

Midway modeled King Booker in like 4 seconds?!? THQ lost alot of credibility with that one.
See now THAT'S what a next gen wrestling game should look like.
Too bad it WON'T look like that.
At least in-game.

Yeah I'm skeptical about this. Those are probably just from a FMV.

I dunno, it uses the unreal engine as its graphics engine, so knowing that, I could see these being in-game.

Well to be fair Booker debuted in like November I think? So they had two months not to mention the game doesn't come out yet for another few months.
It's not hard to add one new guy to the roster almost 6-7 months in advance, especially when it's one of their bigger names.
Hardly being fair, honestly. THQ comes up with a set roster and doesn't modify it (unless they have to take someone out). So at least they are making an effort to keep their roster up to date.

The other year Khali and Umaga debuted AFTER Wrestlemania which is generally past the cut off date and they got them in the game.
And you can't expect them to change the game up just to add some jobber like Colin Delaney.

I just checked out TNAWrestling.com and they've just released a new game website at TNAGame.com. It's mainly just the trailer and some pictures.
Check this out from TNAWrestling.com
"2. It was announced that the season mode in "TNA Impact" will be based on a created wrestler, how will the season mode work? in terms of storylines, how much "freedom" will the player get?
Mark: Yes, the Create a Wrestler mode is at the heart of our story mode. Instead of doing a standard Season Mode, we chose to tell a story about the inner workings and power struggle within TNA. The Story Mode begins with a man who's been beaten to the edge of death, had his body dumped in Tijuana Mexico, and awakes in a Plastic Surgeons office not knowing who he is or how he got there. From there the player must re-establish his identity, recover his memories, and fight back to gain was rightfully his in TNA. The player has many choices as he creates his wrestler, expands his move set, and attempts to become a TNA Champion."
LoL... I thought this was a joke the first time I read it but I guess this is legit.

I still think this game is going to come down to the game play, which I have little faith in currently. It looks like you even sweep kicks are oversold, and apparently the moves are not character-specific. I saw Chris Sabin pull off AJ's moonsault DDT.
There is still time though and if I can have exciting, back and forth King of the Mountain and Ultimate X matches that will probably make it up for me. The "mexican plastic surgeon" storyline doesn't phase me much simply because I don't care about the story. I want a good wrestling game, with good wrestling.

. There was an interesting feature during several spots in which the person on offense and the person on defense are made to press a combinations of buttons in a certain order. The person on offense has to press three in a row while the person on defense has to press four. If the person on defense does it correctly first, he levels out the playing field, whereas if the person on offense does it correctly first he gets even more of an advantage.
This came from someone who played the game with Samoa Joe last weekend.

I SERIOUSLY HOPE the ring doesn't rotate like WCW Nitro did. Doesn't seem like it, but some shots looked like it.
If the CAW feature (if it exists) is any good, I might get it and create my usual WWE CAW, pretending he defected to TNA for a bit or some shit.
Kenny

There's definitely some kind of CAW mode because you have to use a CAW to go through season mode.
According to WrestleView.com there's supposed to be a ton of new information coming out on the game soon so hopefully most of our questions will be answered.
I'd like to see footage of the "King of the Mountain" match and a couple of full length matches.
The game play doesn't look HORRIBLE, but I don't like how the characters oversell the moves. The worst oversell I saw so far was Jarrett doing a basic leg kick and the opponent completely flipping over as a result.
