WWE has hired four new writers. They are Andrew Goldstein, John Carle, Dave Kapoor and Pantelis Ypsilantis. Carle is said to have the least wrestling knowledge of the four - he is being described as having absolutely no knowledge of pro wrestling. credit: Wrestling Observer
MCMAHON: So John, what ideas are you going to bring to the WWE creative team?
JOHN CARLE: I'm a visionary, Vince, so let me envision onto you the vision from which I am currently envisioning: Vincent Kennedy McMahon versus Triple H, with the custody of Stephanie's new daughter on the line! Baby on a pole match!
MCMAHON: ....I love you.

I dunno maybe people with no knowledge of wrestling are whats needed, they might come up with stuff thats not been tried before instead of sticking to the mcmahon cookie cutter rulebook of storylines. :?:
I was going to make a jew joke here, but Pantelis Ypsilantis? Where the fuck is that person from?

Perhaps WWE could convince the Wayans brothers to write for them.

You know they don't like anyone upstaging them.

Yes, because guys who get credit for being funny when they rip off a Bugs Bunny cartoon would be a step-up, as if we don't complain about recycled stories as it is. Plus, I don't think SmackDown! would do much better with the new slogan, "I'm black, you're white, and that's hilarious!"

With Cena on the show, I thought they were writing for Raw anyway. I mean, come on, can you get much more "white stereotype?"

I'd mark out if Cena sang "1000 Miles."
OK, so not really, but it'd be hilariously painful.

I agree it's good to have a writer with no wrestling knowledge to represent the 'casual fan' to have that vision of what it should take to bring in new viewers who haven't watched wrestling before

But it's not a good idea to have any writers without any REAL knowledge.
If I ran the WWE, AT LEAST 1/2 of the staff would be required to know at least as much as Russo did when he started writing for them.

For the record I think it's good to have a guy that doesn't follow the product so you can get an outsiders point of view. As long as his opinion isn't held in high esteem.
Kane Knight
08-22-2006, 06:33 PM
The problem being that the mainstream view is one with no prior wrestling experience whatsoever.

I agree. But the MAJORITY of them don't know the product. The job description says that they DON'T want them to be familiar with the product.
If it were only one or two, I'd be fine with it. But you should be hiring people who know your business more than people who don't.

The problem being that the mainstream view is one with no prior wrestling experience whatsoever.I don't think that really a problem. If the mainstream audience isn't familiar with the product if you cant get them they will have low standards. If you can get them to begin with.

Except I was addressing the same thing Xero was.
The majority of (mainstream) writers are ones with no knowledge whatsoever.

I thought you meant the audience. Writers need the backing for sure, you need to please your core audience. So yeah, you be right and such.
Kane Knight

What in the message I replied to would have indicated the audience?
If anything, responding to your statement about writers would indicate I was refrring to the same.

One problem guys with "no wrestling knowledge" bring to the table is they shatter continuity. It's not that it's not shattered anyway, but when you're relying on guys that know nothing about anything involving pro wrestling...
