View Full Version : What would be the best PPV format?
We know that the WWE over-pushes their PPV events, so I was wondering what you think the best format would be now?
I think they should cut it down to about 9 PPVs per year. I would have it pan out like this (with the current brands in place)...
January: Royal Rumble (Multi-brand)
February/March: No Way Out (Multi-brand)
April: WrestleMania (Multi-brand)
May: Vengeance (RAW)
June: Great American Bash (SmackDown!)
August: SummerSlam (Multi-brand)
September: No Mercy [Or whatever] (ECW)
November: Survivor Series (Multi-brand)
December: Armageddon (Alternates)
This way, aside from No Way Out which I think is needed to build up to Mania (although it could easily be replaced with SNME) there are a few months before the multi-brand PPVs and it cuts down on the single-brand PPVs so they're more important.
At this point, in my opinion even a monthly PPV is a bit overkill because they don't have enough time to really develop a good card.
The other three months (four if you count No Way Out) can have SNME or a similar special to fill out the big event for that month.

January: Royal Rumble
-I don't want to sound like I'm descriminating against them, but I'd rather see ECW left out of this one. Have them deliver a show in December, and let this one continue being just RAW and SmackDown!. Maybe have ECW contribute to the undercard, but leave them out of the Rumble Match itself.
February: No Way Out
-I was so close to dropping this one out, but when you really look back on it, No Way Out has been a solid as fuck PPV. Counting St. Valentine's Day Massacre in 1999, you have have a decent event each year. Vince McMahon vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin in the Steel Cage Match in 1999; Triple H vs. Cactus Jack in a Hell in a Cell Match in 2000; Kurt Angle vs. The Rock in 2001; unless you count the nWo debuting in the WWE big, 2002 was a dud; 2003 was Heyman-produced, so you know it kicked ass; 2004 had Brock Lesnar vs. Eddie Guerrero; 2005 was kind of bleh, if I remember; 2006 had Kurt Angle vs. The Undertaker. Leave No Way Out in, but make it interpromotional.
March: WrestleMania
-Yeah, this shouldn't shock anyone. This could also happen in early April. I think March is a better time, though.
April: Backlash
-RAW only. This PPV seems to do well every year. This year was an exception, mainly because Vince McMahon made himself the star of RAW. If RAW gets off its ass and puts together a decent event, Backlash could be quite the awesome event each year.
May: None
-If the WWE wants to do something here, have a Saturday Night's Main Event. Judgment Day could return, but meh, I think they could just use May to build.
June: King of the Ring
-Bring it back, and have RAW, SmackDown! and ECW participate. Yes, I'd have ECW participate in the KOR. Shoot me. Have each brand hold its own tournament, and then have the winners face off in a special kind of Triple Threat Match. The winner is the first man to hold falls over both his opponents.
July: None
-I guess you could have The Great American Bash, but I think they could use a big build heading into Summerslam.
August: Summerslam
-The second biggest event of the year. RAW and SmackDown! participate, with ECW having a lesser role on the show, but still being featured.
September: None
-I'm keeping the big PPVs kind of isolated. Save for WrestleMania, but it really doesn't need to be protected. Unforgiven has its moments, but they are usually forced, as if to justify the event actually happening. Cut it, and let RAW build straight to Survivor Series, and deliver some big matches on TV. This is the part of the year where the WWE usually dies down. Having a few less PPVs here could spice things up.
October: No Mercy/Halloween Havoc
-I wouldn't mind a name change to make the event feel slightly newer, and less like your generic WWE event. SmackDown! hosts this one, but if there are imminent programs in ECW and RAW, you can feature them here.
November: Survivor Series
-RAW vs. SmackDown! vs. ECW. Could be fun if they have a big main event pitting three teams against each other. None of this shitty three-man teams, either. Four man teams at the very least.
December: Armageddon
-Now presented by ECW. December to Dismember is now a tarnished name, and Armageddon isn't a bad sounding PPV title. It also has quite the history. If the WWE was really game, they could have ECW bring back the Starrcade name. Not really to promote the event using the name, per se, but rather utilise it in a "look what we have after the war" way.

Aside for No Way Out perhaps being interpromotional, I don't see the PPV format fixing anything. I'd rather see the roster split end and it go back to 12 ppvs.

*maybe 13 or 14 for One Night stand and Cyber Sunday I suppose.
What would be the point in having One Night Stand if there aren't any brands?

I suppose they could have it channel the old ECW if they wanted to keep it. Don't label it a WWE PPV, but rather ECW.

why do they need to keep the names the same always too? I like most of them but they could change it up once in a while. Like for instance, maybe once make No Mercy-- Halloween Havoc. Or Vengeance-- Fully Loaded. Or what about cool names like Breakdown, Over the Edge and the beloved King of the Ring. There should be some variety instead of the same lineup every year like WCW used to do.
I'm betting that lastyear was the last year they're bringing in any former talent. Probably going to be an ECW PPV from now on.

And I think the only way it's going to work is if they make it a split brand PPV in the spirt of ECW. What I mean by that, is like last year.

I agree whole-heartedly. Some Pay-Per-Views could really use a name change. Just shake things up a little.
As you said, Vengeance to Fully Loaded is a good one. Maybe get rid of No Mercy for Halloween Havoc, as well. No Way Out could go back to St. Valentine's Day Massacre one year. Judgment Day could very easily be called "King of the Ring", and no one would notice. Probably bump up the buyrate a little, as well.

Armageddon could easily be a War Games.

One of my main arguments is that there is no PPV in July. That is a summer month, where usually wrestling ppvs can be attended and are usually more interesting.

9-10 PPVs, all with good wrestling. Too much to ask, I know.

Also, I didn't read the thread.

oh okay haha. Yea, there has to be at least 12 ppvs a year. I think there are too many now, and that the brand split hurts them as it is. But you gotta have 1 a month, and keep the big 4.

The thing is they are trying to make money and they know they'll make money off PPVs

What I would like to see at some PPV. Is a Clash fo Champions
World vs World
IC vs US
Tag Vs Tag
Also yes, keep the big four they are essential. And have more interpremotional matchs at PPV's as they are usually the only time they are possible. Maybe have a WWE Cup, where over the night there is a series of 7 matches, all different, all 3-way and which ever brand wins the most (Raw, SM! or ECW) Gets the cup.
