Kinda weird. Red Octane put something up on their website that said "Guitar Hero 3 for the Playstation 2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii are currently scheduled for release in the United States in Fall of 2007". But now it's gone. Odd.

So who knows.

Guitar Hero 3 this Fall
RedOctane FAQ may have spilled the beans.
by Hilary Goldstein

April 9, 2007 - Guitar Hero 3 is coming to PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii this fall. That according to Guitar Hero co-publisher RedOctane's site. In its FAQ section, RedOctane answers a common question: "When is Guitar Hero 2 (II) Coming? Will there be GH 2 for Wii, PS3, XBox, Xbox 360, etc?" The answer goes above and beyond the call of duty, announcing that Guitar Hero 3 is coming later this year for all major consoles.

The official answer reads:

"Guitar Hero 2 for Playstation 2 launched 11/7/2006, Xbox 360 launched 4/3/2007 and both items are shipping now. Please check www.guitarherogame.com and www.redoctane.com for the most rrent information.

Guitar Hero 3 for the Playstation 2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii are currently scheduled for release in the United States in Fall of 2007."

It should be noted that the FAQ answer, which numerous message board readers began linking to this evening, is not an official statement or announcement by co-publisher Activision or developer Neversoft. Activision and RedOctane could not be reached for comment at time of publish.

um. a friend of mine told me that his uncle, which works for the company that makes guitar hero, said that in GH3 you will be able to incorporate any song you have on your system into the game, and you'll be able to play it. ANY SONG YOU HAVE ON YOUR SYSTEM. If this is true, how fucking sick is that.

Blitz

That would mean that they'd never have to put out another version again. So I heavily doubt that.

If true, sucks for PS2 owners.

While that sounds like a good concept, it would essentially be pressing buttons at random. They have to map out the button layouts for each song to make it feel like you are actually playing a guitar. To generate that for any song would be complicated. First do detect when a guitar is being played within the song, then to make the map out for the level feel natural while playing it. Instead there will probably just be new songs you can download for each system which is much more likely.

Guitar Hero III will add online multiplayer, wireless
Next incarnation of the popular music game franchise will feature both co-operative and competitive online modes, and wireless guitar controllers.
By Emma Boyes, GameSpot UK
Posted Apr 16, 2007 8:35 am PT

On board a specially designed Guitar Hero rock bus in London today, RedOctane president and founder Kai Huang, confirmed details about the third instalment of the Guitar Hero game to GameSpot.

Firstly, Huang announced the game's platforms--as rumoured, it will indeed be coming to the Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 2, arriving in stores just before the end of year holidays. There will also be a DS version of the series, which will arrive "early next year."

The latest game will also boast new wireless controllers "so that fans can finally rock out in their living room and jump off their couches and do all that crazy rock star stuff." There will also be a variety of colours and a new design for the guitar controllers, along with some higher end options made to look and feel more like real guitars.

Like developer Harmonix's recently announced Rock Band, Guitar Hero III will also feature strong online elements. There will be both co-operative and competitive online modes, along with extra downloadable content.

Huang commented, "We've got a lot of songs and artists still that we would love to have, in particular, we've been trying to get Metallica, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin, so hopefully sometime in the near future, my wish, and everybody's wish will come true and we can get some of their music in the game."

For more about Guitar Hero III, check out GameSpot's full interview with RedOctane founder and president Kai Huang here.

Sorry, can't stop looking at shit like this from a programmer's perspective. So save up and get a next gen system.

The new news is sexy, though. They should give up on Metallica, though. Those money grubbers are gonna end up demanding more money for the licensing of one song than the game will generate in profits as a whole.

Create a Track
That would be amazing, import your song into the game name it, then sort out all of the stuff yourself, as i've never played GH before I wouldn't know how hard it would be to do it...
Planned on getting GH2 but i'd rather just wait till GH3 now...

PapaGeorgio
04-16-2007, 04:43 PM
You should get Guitar Hero one, has the best songs in my opinion. Plus it's much more diverse, has something for everyone. Seemed like GH2 they got some guy who lives in a basement and plays guitar all day to pick the track list. While there are some good songs, just wasn't my type of music for the most part.

Kapoutman
04-16-2007, 10:40 PM
If you've played "Frets on Fire" for PC, you'll notice the option to create your own songs. It's possible, but you do have to sort everything yourself. So I can't be bothered with it.

That alone they could probably do.

That combined with the fact that you need to be able to add or subtract the guitars as you play right or wrong (And bass/riddem in multiplayer)...Yeah, never happen. Unless they add in a potentially complicated interface (Even things like Freetar HEro are dodgy)

KingofOldSchool
06-02-2007, 12:18 AM
It surprises me that after two Guitar Heros, that The Who have yet to be put on the game. I mean The Who is one of the biggest ad whores of all time so their lack of inclusion in the game as of yet is baffling.

Kane Knight
06-02-2007, 12:31 AM
More importantly, Pete Townshend is, and he's the author behind most of the big songs.

Plus, I mean, Townshend's responsible for an iconic guitar style, even if most of his songs aren't shred-style or whatever.

Kane Knight
06-02-2007, 12:36 AM
It's worth noting that a lot of the bands on these games have Boston ties, even if theyr'e not from Boston. I mean, people like Bowie might as well be Bostonian. Even Queen was hugely influential in Boston, and still are (Though their popularity has waned).

The Who is more a West Coast deal, and so they may be a lower priority. I mean, they're certainly not as essential to draw in the pop crowd as Nirvana or Incubus, and they're not as essential to the guitar heads as Skynnyrd....So it's easy to see them slipping through the cracks.

Speaking of that, its been said that older Guitar Hero controllers may work on Rock Band as well as GH3 even though they're being cooked in two different houses. In a classy gesture Harmonix stated that they'd make Rock Band guitars work with GH3 if Neversoft simply asked. That would be cool cross-compatibility.

Disturbed316
06-13-2007, 10:00 AM
I heard that they said the GH guitars would be like a 3rd party controller, it will still work with Rock Band, but obviously to really you the best out of the game you need to get the stuff that comes with it.

Cooperative play seems to be a major focus for Guitar Hero III, because not only will you be able to play co-op online, but the game will also feature a cooperative career mode, where you and a buddy follow the path that documents the rise and fall of a rock band. To encourage playing cooperatively, some songs--such as the Beastie's "Sabotage"--can only be unlocked by first playing them in co-op mode.

Though the note placement is off and the new Battle Mode is stupid (cute but stupid), Slash endorses the game and he has a track in there. Can't be that bad. I'd like it on its own merit.

I was talking to my friend yesterday about how Neversoft could stay afloat with Rock Band destined to kick it's ass. They should run with the idea of specialized soundtracks; a 70's game, a Nintendo themes game for Wii, a TV themes, a movie themes, exclusive remix soundtrack to old songs...

This way the Guitar Hero series could offer something different from what Rock Band. "Playing music" is no longer a holy shit experience and now they need to step up to survive.

Yea...Im actually a huge Dragonforce fan and love the song. Their is actually two different version of the song. One version is about 8 minutes long while another one is about 2 minutes shorter with a huge ass guitar solo taken out.

I read they will use a customized version for the game so Im guessing it will be the shorter one perhaps. Or maybe they will add stuff...they did add in that solo part at the very end of Holy Diver for GH 80s.

That demo that is released with Tony Hawk includes...

Lay Down (by Priestess)
Even Flow (by Pearl Jam)
The Metal (by Tenacious D)
Hit Me with your Best Shot (as made famous by Pat Benatar)
Rock You like a Hurricane (as made famous by Scorpions)

For those who dont want to purchase Tony Hawk for the demo can just wait. The Guitar Hero crew announced today that the demo will be released on Xbox Live two weeks after the release of Tony Hawk.

Which basically means you have like a week to play the demo then before Guitar Hero 3 hits store shelves.

2 New Songs will be revealed...

1 song by Greenday

and the 2nd song is said to be top secret and they wont even reveal a clue about it untill they can announce specifically on that day.
------------------------------------------------------------------

Word has popped up online that the two songs are gonna be

Longview by Greenday

and

Speak by Godsmack

But people are hoping for the Godsmack song to not be true.

I thinki it would be kick ass for them to announce the Halo theme on that day since its just a few days after the release of Halo 3.

But yea I understand why you are skeptical about it. I just relazed the other day that the Atreyu song that was announced isnt on that list. The list has not been denied yet so I take it that that list might have some sort of reality to it.

Hopefully with in the week it will be known for sure.

The reason Scorehero might now have anything about it yet is because the songs havnt been officially announced to the people. Im willing to bet that those songs were just confirmed by searching. Untill the official Guitar Hero people actually confirm a song, Scorehero cant say anything about it. Scorehero got to already play the full scale version of the game and knows the setlist. But due to something they signed they arent allowed to mention any of the songs unless they are announced.

Downloadable content Confirmed by

http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003644379

"Fans already salivating for next month's release of the videogame "Guitar Hero III" will be treated to an Interscope CD featuring music from the game and a special code unlocking new or remixed songs from Marilyn M, AFI and Flyleaf.

Due Oct. 30, two days after "Guitar Hero III" hits stores, the CD includes in-game songs such as Sonic Youth's "Kool Thing," AFI's "Miss Murder" and Queens Of The Stone Age's "3's & 7's."

Via a code that will come with the disc, Xbox Live users can unlock the bonus playable songs "Carcinogen Crush" from AFI, "Tina" from Flyleaf and a remix of M's "Putting Holes in Happiness" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner. The AFI song is expected to appear on an EP of new material in December."

The code is to put in XBL to get it as downloadable content. Its not already in the game yet. I was thinking the same thing at first.

Im wondering how many songs they are gonna have as downloadble content. And if they are gonna update it more often than Guitar Hero 2. I am pretty pissed with how the content was for that.

P.S.--It also works when using a normal 360 controller.

360 controller/guitar equivalent:
Strum/Use Whammy Bar for extended notes = Left thumbstick or + pad up/down
Green = LT (Left Trigger)
Red = LB (Left Bumper)
Yellow = RB (Right Bumper)
Blue = RT (Right Trigger)
Orange = (A) (The “A” Button...:roll:)

Of course, though I'm not serious about any of those either. So don't believe me, just try it without the guitar peripheral, you'll see that I am indeed correct.

Not sure if i'm gonna play it online though incase microsoft do something because its a fake copy of it...

And you don't need a modchip?

<font color=goldenrod>I want to kill that guy...

Random question: on release date do they just have the full package (game and guitar) available? or will they release the game-only in addition?

</font>

Unlike Rock Band both versions are going to be available on launch. The makes of Rock Band stated in a interview that you can only purchase the bundle version of the game on launch day and then a disc only version will be released at the end of January.

Its kinda weird though because gamestop has all the instruments on their own the game alone set for the same launch day as the game.

I've just tried out the demo of GH3, don't know what I was expecting really, it's just a polished version of GH2 with more songs.

Extreme Angle
10-19-2007, 01:10 PM
yup, and the star power seems to kick in easier and it doesn't put you off when you kick it in.
also hammer ons and pull offs are easier

I was kinda hoping they were going to step it up a gear, as Rock Band is clearly going to rip it apart.

Why does it seem like everyone is choosing between GH3 and Rock Band? I'm psyched for both.

Kane Knight
10-19-2007, 06:24 PM
Do HOs and POs actually need to get easier?

I didn't have a problem with them in one. I didn't have a problem with them in two. Three? Is the controller gonna hold my hand when I do it?

Probably because between the two, you're looking at a minimum investment of 300 bucks?

Extreme Angle
10-19-2007, 06:31 PM
Na by easier I mean they stand out more... On GH" it took awhile for me to actually tell the difference. In this one it sticks out like a sore thumb

Kane Knight
10-20-2007, 12:43 AM
You mean easier to see the HO notes then?

Yeah but few people are going "Hmmmmm, both games look good, but I prefer this one". A lot of people are like "OMG ROK BAND IS TEH SEX GUITAR HERO IS PURE SUCK" or vice versa. People taking it personally or something.

Probably the same reason people are dumb enough to argue Coke vs Pepsi.

We don't get it a month early, the release is set up on a US basis.

There's no luck, we almost universally get games before Europe.

Extreme Angle

Yeah, some of those power chords don't make much sense. I could manage it though (without those pesky Battle Mode attacks). That Dragonforce track is going to be the one to beat.

Extreme Angle
10-22-2007, 10:43 AM
dragon force doesn't look that hard. Jordan looked harder and i managed that

Not really, I prefer the shape of the xplorer, feels more rocktastic. Besides, I dont need a new one, so why bother?

Extreme Angle
10-22-2007, 04:23 PM
I don't need a new one but I want to get the game pre ordered online so I get it a day early to piss my mates off... Don't think site is doing game alone though...
I have the money so i might...

Kane Knight
10-22-2007, 05:07 PM
The LEs Paul shape isn't my favorite, but with integrated wireless and not being the XPlorer, I'll be getting the geetar.

I'd rather have an SG to be honest, but since the difference is pretty minor....

If you keep on calling microsoft over and over again and complain they will send you one quicker...

I shit you not...I got mine back within two weeks while my friends broke around the same time and took him over a month....

GH3 demo should be up on marketplace within the next couple hours. Im hoping for around two because I would like to play a few rounds of it before I head off to class in the morning.
