United States Champion Chris Benoit vs. MVP
I, for one, along with probably many others am glad to see this WM23 rematch happening at Backlash, and have somewhat high hopes that this match will be the same or even higher quality than that of WM23. MVP is supposedly also very well liked backstage by many, so I wouldn’t be too surprised to see him walking away with the gold this Sunday.

I agree, this will be good. Benoit won't have any gold and MVP will. I hate Benoit.

I want to see MVP win and hold a huge parade to celebrate his victory on the next show.

It would rule.

I like his ring attire.

MVP's attire is BALLIN!
You guys got no taste. It's unique and it brings out his character. I think it's awesome. Its better then generic tights or tough guy from da streetz in jean shortz.

I agree, it helps set him apart from every one else. His character wouldn't look right in a singlet, underwear tights are kinda gay, he could probably get away with pant tights, and possibly (very possibly) those boxer brief tights. But what he is wearing now is good.

MVP is good in the ring, but I can't stand his voice. He should have a Drew Rosenhaus-like manager speaking for him.

Xero

He looks like a Power Ranger.

Aside from that, the attire doesn't match the gimmick at all. He's supposed to be a big-time playa wrestler, and yet he looks like something Konnan threw up.

I don't watch Smackdown(often), but I catch MVP segments and matches on the Net and I am a fan of his. I thought he was going to be a joke when he first debuted but he's completely turned my opinion of him around.

For someone in his gimmick? I would expect some sort of street clothes gimmick or tights.

The Optimist
04-23-2007, 09:47 PM
I don't think street clothes would work, they're going for glamour and fame, with the cheerleaders and shit. And as stated, tights would be a little boring for him.

Eh, either way.

I dunno, maybe have him wrestle in a designer suit???

How about regular wrestling tights/shorts like Shelton Benjamin's. And tone down the T.O gimmick. If he want's to be taken seriously the gimmicky shit needs to be toned down.
He's nothing special to me. So he's having a good program with Benoit. What happens after that? Having good matches with Benoit isn't enough to gauge his ability since he sucked before, and Benoit can carry crash test dummies to decent matches.
We'll see what happens

Wouldn't that be more the MATCH, not the participant?

MVP should bust out the Live from the 305 during the match. That would make me squeal.

I love the way they people jump all over a guy as soon as people like them, these days. MVP held up his own end of the bargain at WrestleMania and on SmackDown!. The guy did some amazing work in DSW. The guy did some pretty good chain-wrestling in his debut. He's been proven to be great. Stop giving Benoit all the credit for their program.

I do think that MVP is working his ass off a bit harder than he might with others, as he seems to be a huge Benoit fan (he named one of his moves "Tribute To Benoit"). But hopefully he is just as motivated with other workers. If so, he has a really, really bright future.

As I said in another thread, I actually think Chris Benoit should retain the United States Championship here. I love MVP and all, but the way this feud has been going would logically lead to Benoit countering MVP's counter for the Air Benoit, one-upping him again. I don't think MVP needs the US Title, and unless they need it, I don't think a younger guy should get the belt.

THe bandwagon that loves MVP now will hate his guts the instant the WWE pushes him anywhere near the main event.

Someday "MVP is the next Rock" will turn into "MVP is a resthold machine, or a dirty backstage politicker, or is watered down from his old character... I don't really know but I hate him just like everybody else here does."

I liked MVP before the feud with Benoit so im certainly not on the bandwagon, im sure if he's booked right after this feud, he'll make a big impact in future aswell.

That's pretty much the sum of what I've been saying since the beginning of this whole thing at WM23. Yeah, the matches have been great but the real test is when MVP doesn't have this sort of luxury anymore and is going to have to make himself shine in the ring or make someone else look good. While decent prior to this, he didn't really have any matches that stood out excluding the Inferno match but that's more of a testament to the gimmick than anything else. If he can keep this level of workrate going and really sell the gimmick he just might MIGHT do well in an upper-midcard role. MAYBE.

WWE Writer : *picking nose* Okay boys who hasnt Cena squashed yet? We need someone new.

WWE Writer2 : This MVP guy is picking up some heat on Smackdown.

WWE Writer : Okay.

One Week Later :

WWE Writer : Okay MVP, you go out there and talk about how Cena sucks and is really bad and then you are gonna have a match.

MVP : Awesome! A 15 minute match?

WWE Writer : Nah, its gonna be a little shorter than that.

In The Ring :

MVP : Cena sucks! He's pathetic! Everyone knows that the biggest superstar in the WWE is Montel Vontavious Porter!

BRAPUUUPAH!

Cena : DA CHAMP IS HEAR! YO NAME MONTEL? YO A TALK SHOW HOST? YOU A FART HOST!

Cena runs to the ring. F-U, STFU. MVP taps.

Cena : DA CHAMP IS STILL HEAR!

Cole : OMG WHAT A TREAT THE CHAMP ON SMACKDOWN! HE TAUGHT THAT COCKY MVP A LESSON!

Yes, yes, that's exactly what they do when booking Cena matches.
