View Full Version : Hard drive dieing?

It seems that sometimes when I start my system (using Ubuntu Linux, just an FYI) it will randomly hang at the start and when it does boot it takes a lot of time to process anything and the hard drive is constantly grinding during this time. However, if I restart the system a few times (almost never is fixed on the first restart) it will work normally.

Anyone know if this would be a sign on hard drive failure? I've never had a hard drive die on me and I don't want to replace my 200GB hard drive if I don't have to.

Grinding = bad

I would suggest you start backing up stuff just in case, but grinding is never a good sign.

Mine does the same thing at start-up sometimes, has been for months. After it is done booting the grinding stops, doesn't boot any slower though

Unless it's in the club and the girl is grinding her ass up against you.
