Yea, I'll do that in time. I'm having lots of fun with just the roster as is. Tell you the truth, I love the Octogon shit. I've been playing as Vader (is that Saber?) and just demolishing people left and right. The S-1 shit is fun too, but I hate how you get into a grapple so much and they do nothing. Awesome game though.

lol, is this Sam Pop guy Bob Sapp? I used him in an octogon match against Kein Harrock. I kept throwing him vicius punches until he finally dropped. Then I did Ground and Pound and he tapped. lol

Once I get my computer up and running again (power source went out), I imagine I will download one of the big roster sets, as I really don't have any interest in all the Japanese guys. I have a hard time picking out who the American guys are anyway.
I'm still getting used to the controls. I won a match against a rank 1 opponent. It's hard for me to tell with all the reversals and such if I was responsible for what happens during a grapple. It's a lot of fun though.

This may go down as the greatest video game ever. :D
I had forgotten about my lovefest for luchadores, and apparently Dr. Wagner Jr. has some form of bloodfued against me because no matter what mode I go in, he seems to be one of the first random guys that pop up to figth me, and he wins his share a lot of times. :D

I saw in a video that it has the actual WWE and such logos in the game... is that a mod?
People did them pixel by pixel. Not a mod as the logo designer is in-game.

You have to be pretty much perfectly in line to do a whip to the corner (triangle+direction to the corner). To smash their head into the corner get close to the corner (you can do it pretty far off the corner, but get pretty close), grapple and do triangle+direction to the corner. The second one is easier because you don't have to be perfectly in line.

I must say I find the menus to crazy and poorly designed. It's not noob-friendly at all (my first time with a Fire Pro game), with all the sub-menus and lack of shit being labeled (especially in the create mode). Fucking INFURIATING, really. The very least they could have done is put a little toolbar at the bottom with a list of things you can do and/or access in a given spot (a lot of games do this in some way or another). None of the color palettes are labeled and I figured out completely on accident how to make layers show up more easily against the background (wtf black objects with a black background?).
Took me forever to put together a relatively simple CAW because of this. Didn't even have time to play a match.

Just got my copy yesterday but I've been playing at my friend's house since last week. Love the game. I love how strategic it can be once you get into the upper levels of the game.
Created a couple championships to let the CPU battle over mainly. Only thing I don't like about titles is you can't do tournaments for titles (at least I haven't figured out how, if you can).
Haven't messed around with edit mode too much. Gonna go in a rename most everyone and their promotions/groups as I recognize most of the puro wrestlers in the game. Probably just do one organization at a time and then play a bit, so it doesn't get too monotonous.
Also, I love the little things in the game. For instance, if you have a guy that claps as one of his taunts and you do it in the match, sometimes the audience will clap along too. Being able to work over body parts to set up for submissions and whatnot adds a bunch of strategy to the matches.
One thing that I wish was added was an easy way to see each wrestler's stats. As far as I know the only way to view stats would be through the edit mode, but I wish you could view them on the wrestler select screen so you could get an idea of how to go into certain matches.

They all have different attributes, such as count speed, the speed at which they get down to the mat to strt counting, how long they stay down when knocked out, and more.
You can also make your own ref, if you don't like the ones given.

YET MORE SHITS GO UNEXPLAINED!
Ok, so when you are assigning moves there are 2 spaces next to the little indicator that shows you which button does the move. It's like this (talkin' about the blue shits):
O-> - - Go 2 Sleep
Yeah, so if you move the cursor over the first one and press X it cycles through V1, V2 and the - again. The second one cycles through S, C and the -.
WTF do they mean?

Had a nice little match earlier between Jericho (updated appearance), and a created character of my own. I was simming it, and it was damn close. Near the end, Jericho hit a triple powerbomb and went right into the liontamer. It was too close to the ropes however. A few seconds later, Jericho goes for a jumping sole butt ( spin kick), but he mis-aims, whiffs, gets caught with a complete shot that criticals him. Pretty slick sequence.

Why? Because they weren't coding the game. Translations are one thing, changing menus are another. They weren't hired to change things, they were hired to translate. Shit, if they were changing things, then they should have made edits usable in booking mode.
And honestly, no offense Funky, it's not that bad. Just learn where stuff is, and it's not hard. I've been navigating it in Japanese for 2 years, and I've never had major problems. Is it the actual appearance you're having issues with, the skills, or what?

I have 1 issue with the menu:
1. It's like a bowl of spaghetti, everything goes off into different directions. It's just not efficiently streamlined. Like for real, I can't believe the guy who programmed the menu wasn't fired on the spot for turning in something like that. Of course you get used to it after a while, but the point of a menu is not to get used to it. You're supposed to be able to pick it up and be like "this tells me exactly where everything is and how to use it" right off the bat. I shouldn't struggle for a couple of hours getting used to it. Defeats the whole purpose.
Maybe I am just flipping out, looking at it from a programming perspective, but seriously, wow. Like if I showed this to any of my professors, they'd flunk the guy for sure. The way I look at it, the first thing we're taught about GUIs is to make them easy to read and easy to navigate not for you (the programmer) but ultimately for the end user. It just fails at those that.
And a personal gripe (yeah, that was all just from my future profession's perspective), I hate the right stick shortcut system, but thankfully, that can be turned off in the options.

Basically if you set the first color of the set, and the last color, it'll blend the two in between to be a smooth transistion between them. Basically if you start dark, and end light, it'll blend the color better so it doesn't look solid and bad.
It's sort of hard to explain, but it just makes colors look better.

Made a "War Games" title, to be contested in a 4v4 Cage match that can only be won by submission. I've tried it out (instead of just simming it). Put the CPU on 7 and it was tough as shit. Luckily, one of my team mates managed to get the win, cause I was fucked.
I swear there will never be a reason to get another wrestling game unless they release another Fire Pro.

Holy shit, just had an amazing finish to a match, I was Naruki Doi and my CPU partner was CIMA (Blood Generation) vs Genki Horiguchi and Dragon Kid (Do Fixer). Tough back and forth match, at the end I bodyslammed Dragon Kid outside the ring and CIMA jumped off the apron to attack him while Genki got in the ring to attack me. While on the outside, CIMA hit Dragon Kid with a Scheiwn and got a Critical, giving us the countout win. As the referee was counting 18, I hit Doi's Sliding Kenka Kick and got a Critical as well, making them virtually simultaneous.

I just simmed a six-man battle royal with the six TNA wrestlers in the game. Kevin Nash wound up winning. Petey Williams was the MVP of the match, though. He hit a ton of high spots and about a half-dozen Canadian Destroyers. Jarrett was the first one out, then AJ (who got busted open), then Sting. It came down to Nash, Petey, and Christopher Daniels (in his Curry Man gimmick). The X-Division stars double-teamed Nash for a couple of minutes before Petey turned on Daniels and hit the Destroyer for the pin. Immediately after, Nash hit the Jacknife for the win. Went 21 and a half minutes. Such a great game...

Oh yeah, forgot to ask about that ish. What's up with the logic?
redoneja
12-22-2007, 08:49 PM
from gamefaqs
Fire Pro wrestler logic can basically be divided into two distinct
categories (please note that specific logic parameters are outlined in
the General FAQ):
MOVESET LOGIC - Determines which moves a wrestler will attempt at
certain points in the match. For example, how often a wrestler decides
to attempt his "big" moves depending on his opponent's health status.
Tweaking these parameters can ultimately make your edit more reckless
or conservative in the ring, depending on the settings.
BEHAVIORIAL LOGIC - Determines the wrestler's general characteristics
and tendencies inside the ring. For example, does he try to entertain
the audience, or does he only care about winning? If he has a tag
partner, is he cooperative? Tweaking these parameters will greatly
affect your edit's overall in-ring psychology.</pre>

12-22-2007, 08:58 PM
That description is vague as all fuck compared to what you can actually do.
It doesn't just include big moves. Its EVERY move. Thats why logic was such a bitch in the jap version. Because unlike the move selection part, there is no preview for the move you are on. It just lists the name of the move(in Japanese). So you have to write down the guys entire movelist, then use a translation guide to actually program it.
You can literally program a guy to wrestle just like he does in real life. You an make it so 90% of the time warrior does clotheslines, or you can make angle systematically break down the leg.
You can also program a succesion of 3 moves. In other words you can make it so Angle hits the angle slam, taunts, and then slaps on the ankle lock.
Logic, more than the grappling system, more than the deep roster, is the greatest feature of Firepro. No question.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSexy.
I have to look at the Joe I have, speaking of which. Did an eight man tag elimination and it was rare for him to do a pin (only a powerbomb pin) OR tag out. Since I set it for falls only, it went over the 99.59 time limit. Never got to the end because they kept interrupting the falls and Joe almost never pinned...

Apparently this is doing crazy numbers(relatively). Something like 11,000 sold already. And it hasn't even hit europe yet. They only sold 15,000 in Japan before it bacame a greatest hit over there. That is WAY more than they expected.
I will bite the bullet and say I was dead wrong on this one. I didn't think this game would sell, let alone grab the numbers it has already. Obviously a very lackluster performance by THQ was a major factor I think.
But holy crap, this is the best news ever, as with numbers like this, I can see future titles being released here.

You can't change it mid-tourney though.

I'm having way more fun simming matches than playing them myself. Turning CPU skill up to 10 and just letting them go at it is amazing. Watched a fantastic Carlito vs. Super Crazy match earlier that was paced just like that kind of match would be if Vince didn't water down his cruisers. Crazy won it with a flying headscissor about sixteen minutes in.
I've been using CAWS.ws for formulas (I don't feel like spending $40 for an ARMax), and have been having a blast making Triple H, Kamala, turning Jamal into Umaga... I have to hope that WWE is paying attention to the rave reviews FPR is getting and takes some cues from its success. This is the best wrestling game... probably ever.

Wow, so since messing with the logic in my edits, I've been able to have even better matches than I have before. Which is saying a lot. Just had a 30+ minute epic between HBK and Jeff Hardy. Phenomenal ending as at te 30 minute mark hbk hit the superkick for a 2.9 count. Follows it with a russian leg sweep. 2.9 count. Piledriver 2.9 count. I try and fight back inthe corner, but he reverses and does a groin punch(indicating his frustration, as I have it set that he rarely does that move.) And follows it up with his specialty elbow drop for a.............2.9 count. He gets behind me, but I reverse the grapple into a chin crusher, and hit the swanton bomb, followed by a twist of fate in the center of the ring for the 3 count.
Oh, and I also figured out how to navigate edit logo mode, and made a pretty damn good tna logo. Not only did it not take as long as I thought, but it came out better than I thought it would.

With PS3, the save needs to be a .psv format.
Some saves are .psv at fireproclub.. Although most people are relying on someone with the ps2 to ps3 save transfer device to import it.
If you check Fireproclub, or gamefaqs, you can find easy steps on how to put the .psv save into your ps3. I have to run for now, but if you can't find it, let me know I'l tell you later.

however I was in this match, eliminated one guy with a critical roll up (steve Corino) and then the dude put him in a critical submission tap out and then spinning suplexed my other dude (leonardo spanky) for the 3 all 3 falls happened with like 30 seconds left. It was pretty amazing.

I got the game back when it came out and created a ton of people. I had some awesome, back and forth matches until I got good at the game. After you figure out the engine and get your timing down, it's pretty easy. I was dominating matches on level 10 and the game lost it's flavor. I'm looking for TNA Impact next.

I could never spend the time necessary to learn how to play this fucker. It sounded like an awesome game, but I ended up frustrated with it quickly. Sitting in its box somewhere in my office.

So I've just read the Wikipedia page of Fire Pro Wrestling Returns and I can see that the article doesn't get read that often.
Character customization
Unlike a number of previous Fire Pro titles, Returns does not imitate rosters of American wrestling companies like World Wrestling Entertainment, although the AWG Organization in the game does have many characters that look just like various known legends from WWE, WCW, ECW, and TNA. Also, the game's hefty stockpile of template heads, bodies, clothes and accessories has allowed American wrestling fans to recreate many of their favorite wrestling superstars accurately with da greatest of ease, and make them available for download online. As reported by IGN, Returns supplies new customizing tools, such as a "Face Layer" feature that allows players to create a wrestler's face using multiple objects.[3] Hundreds of wrestler faces are available, including those of many historical wrestlers. Players can add up to two layers of facial accessories, including hair styles, visors, beards, helmets and tattoos. "One example starts with a base face, adds a mohawk... and finishes off with a colorful mask," IGN.com's review stated. Returns provides 1,649 wrestling moves to choose from when customizing a character and the game's engine allows you to give the character complicated logic instructions dictating how an AI version of the character behaves in a variety of situations.

Or maybe it does get read often but nobody has decided to fix it and Booker T is just being a dick and going around vandalising several articles.
Fire Pro Wrestling is the best. Especially the TAG TEAM MATCHES!

I tracked down a reasonably-priced copy on ebay from Spain a few years ago, asked the guy how much it'd cost to send it to the UK, he said he'd check the next day, then he sold it. :( I was gutted.

If you have a decent computer you can emulate it. That's what I've been doing. Makes downloading and transferring edits much more convenient.

Yeah, I think I still have the ROM, but I still wouldn't mind playing it on my actual PS2, for the decent D-Pad if anything.

Fuck 2k and the wwe games. I need a new Firepro, god damn it.
10 years later and I still play this a ton and have amazing matches. But over the years more and more wrestlers have debuted new moves that aren't in the game, that after a decade, it's finally starting to feel outdated.
Who the fuck owns the firepro franchise, and where can I find their family to threaten?
