But you have to... how can, say, Unforgiven 2004 be my best PPV of the 2000s if I've already said WrestleMania X-Seven is my fave PPV of all time, at it took place in the 2000s?! And then you're asking my fave WrestleMania too... how can I choose anything other than?

Other than the one you already picked, it may be second best at that point. But i think if you choose x7 as the best overall, people will understand that Unforgiven 2004 is the next best.

You should blatantly watch WrestleMania X-Seven. However, if you've seen it before, and you've never seen any of the following watch one of these instead:

IV, VI, VIII, X, XIV, X8, XIX, XX, 21

Man, there's a reason why WrestleMania is the "granddaddy" huh? There are so many WMs from over the years ranging from very good to amazing. A couple of duds, but who's counting?

NeanderCarl

Can I just point out that Unforgiven 2004 is not my second favourite PPV of all time  I don't even remember the card or what the fuck happened, it was just off the top of my head.

Indifferent Clox

Yeah it's the only consistently good ppv, even on the bad years there's always something to look forward to.
That's why there needs to be less ppvs. All PPVs could be big. Have 4 Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania King of The Ring Survivor Series

Well here's the review I wrote of WrestleMania X-Seven when we were rating all the WrestleManias a few years back.

9.5/10

The build up with the Limp Bizkit "My Way" video was incredible and really captured the mood of the main event.

Rock and Austin had what was probably their greatest ever match.

The Gimmick Battle Royal was great, especially for the return of the under-appreciated REPO MAN!

Vince McMahon's greatest in-ring hour against his son, Shane-O-Mac, who performed a shocking Van Trashcaninator on his father which we all just KNEW he wasn't going to be able to pull off when we realised what he was attempting, but he did it!

The Hardcore Triple Threat was more of a comedy match but it was still very good.

Undertaker vs HHH was surprisingly good, considering Taker was the pits around this time. (He really had a career turnaround when he turned heel at the end of this year.) Then again, Trips was in his prime here, and really WAS "That Damn Good", for about a year anyway.

The TLC match was incredible, and saw the debuts of Spike Dudley and Rhyno.

The only thing that stops me rating it a 10, however....

The six-man tag was nothing more than a filler to get Bradshaw on the show in his home state. Tazz was awful in this match, really bad, he even botched an Irish Whip.

The opener was a disappointment considering Jericho was one half of the match. Unfortunately, Regal was the other half. (Regal isn't a bad wrestler, as long as he is facing somebody who complements his style. As the WWE contains virtually NO-ONE who does this, maybe he should stick to being an inactive character. Just a thought.)

Angle vs Benoit was nowhere near as good as they are capable of, or indeed have given us since, and was marred by a confusing and sudden ending.

Guerrero vs Test was another filler, and was too short to be considered a good match.

Chyna vs Ivory was the pits, Right To Censor had already run it's course, and I don't believe we ever saw Chyna again after this match. Thankfully.

But the rest of the show was so great I still qualify it for the 9.5 rating. The Austin heel turn, while expected, was a breath of fresh air. Same goes for Paul Heyman on commentary. The wrestling business was buzzing with the WCW buy-out and the closure of ECW. Fan interest was at an all-time high. It had the big time show feel to it. And for sentimental reasons too, this really was a great time to be a wrestling fan (and a great period in my life, personally, too.) Many see this show as the beginning of the WWE's creative downfall, and I guess that argument holds a lot of weight. I mean, how could they ever creatively top WrestleMania x-Seven?

Best Wrestlemania: To me was WM 19, top to bottom I felt the show delivered big time.

Best ROH show: Of the 4 offered so far I feel that MAN UP is the best right now. Every match was great, and if you have not seen Ladder War yet you HAVE to get a look at it!

Best Indy: This is a tough one, reason being every show always seems to have its great memories, but I would have to say Glory By Honor 5 Night 2. The entire show shows you all the aspects that ROH can offer.

Indifferent Clox

Wrestlemania X7 is the best ppv/show/point is wrestling of all time. Like Neandercarl said, so great. Such a peak of all that was great about wrestling in the boom period. I just wish it went a stronger direction afterwards. The two man power trip and some of the early invasion stuff was great, but it all flew apart between May 01-2002.

What amazes me is that, as amazing as WM X7 was, it could have been better.

-I don't think it would have been that bad of an idea to debut Booker T or DDP or someone big from WCW during the Shane/Vince match. It's Wrestlemania and the WCW was just bought a week earlier. This match was part of that storyline with Shane/Vince and they both ended up debuting at KOTR with much less impact. This doesn't mean the Invasion would have had to start right away. It just seems like it would have made a bigger splash for the show, the wrestler and the angle down the road.

- Jericho opening and winning the IC was great, but this was at the peak of his WWF success and he was on the cusp of what should have been a huge push. It wasn't anything memorable. He had done it all a year prior, and they just were letting him tread water before they pushed him big in the summer. He could have been given a better gig than his angle/opener with Regal.

-Guys like Tazz and Raven were in WWF, but could have been used way better on the card.

-Angle/Benoit could have done way better

-There was talk of HBK coming out of retirement for the event. In fact, at one point I think he was slated to but had a falling out with HHH and all kinds of attitude/drug problems. I think it'd have been amazing to see him and HHH have a match here and do something else with Taker. Or even put him in a program with the surging Y2J. Either way, it would have changed the card immensely if you had him to use.

- I also still look at the TLC, and though it was absolutely amazing and a natural course of action to use it again, I think they could have thrown something else into the mix. Rhyno, Spike and Lita getting involved was great. But how about a 4th team in there? Were both members of the Outlaws under contract at the time?
Tables ladders chairs and dumpsters?

Yeah, the original plan was Triple H vs Shawn Michaels, and if they could have put together a match as great as their SummerSlam 2002 match, it would have been off the charts and this event would have been a 10/10, near perfect show.

Makes me wonder what they would have done with the Undertaker if the HBK match had gone ahead as planned. If memory serves me correctly, the Taker vs HHH match was only booked about a week before the show.

If Michaels had been free though, with the benefit of hindsight, I would have left Undertaker vs HHH unscathed because it really was a great match, and booked HBK vs Chris Jericho. That would have pissed all over Jericho/Regal from a match quality standpoint, even if it meant the IC title was off the card.

NeanderCarl
01-25-2008, 05:46 AM
Give HBK/Jericho a half hour slot, and drop the six-man tag filler match. Hey presto, a virtually perfect WrestleMania.
