View Full Version : Who are the stiffest American Wrestlers?

Rather...not American, but made their names in America.
Off the top of my head the following names spring to mind:
Lord Steven William Regal
JBL
Fit Finlay (I don't like just calling him Finlay)
Scott Stiener
Vader
Saturn
I would say those guys are probably some of the stiffest around...Regal strangely enough is probably one of the safest as well, but he is stiff. I remeber in the original Tough Enough, he went around to the trainies and told them how he is going to hit them very hard but very safely.

You mean Senshi? I forgot about him. Oh, and Taz. It is amazing Taz didn't hurt more people. Then again he mostly was against Sabu, and Sabu never let you know if he was hurt.

I had a buddy who used to wrestle. He told me that Brother DeVon worked pretty fucking stiff.
DeVon: Hit me
(soft hit)
DeVon: C'mon, HIT ME!
(knock the hell out of him)
DeVon: awww shit!

Warrior wasn't so much stiff as much as sloppy and dangerous, there is a big difference.

in the ultimate destruction dvd, they say he was pretty stiff in the ring, particularly they mention with andre and rude.

I still count that as more of sloppy.

RVD springs to mind. Angle mentioned in an interview with The Sun how he works stiffly as well and referred to HBK and HHH as long-haired sissies for not being able to take it.
Loose Cannon

god, who isn't.
Andre
Brody
Abdullah
Funks
Meng
Barbarian
everyone in th 70's/early 80's
Iron Shiek
the list just goes on and on.
Chuck Jones
03-19-2008, 02:54 PM
Homicide (he deafened Steve Corino with a slap)
The Steiners, especially Rick
Dynamite Kid
Ken shamrock in his early WWF run-I remember the match he had with Vader and he is kneeing him in the corner, you could hear the referee telling shamrock to "ease up"
Vader
Most Japanese wrestlers
Stan Hansen
Regal-He does not seem like a guy who will take liberties on his opponent, but is a safer form of stiff working. Other guys, such as bob holly or dynamite come off as bullies.

Bret Hart
Steve Austin

Oh but to add to the conversation. I would say Jeff Hardy right now. His matches since his return have been great, but this year he started working really stiff it seems, especially with Triple H, HBK, and Jericho. It may not always be his punches that hit hard but shit I would have to take whisper in the wind!

Some of these names really don't belong on here. Difference between looking like they work 'stiff' and actually doing so.
Having said that, Samoa Joe.

Joe isn’t stiff, Joe is just a great worker, who can make it look stiff.
I’ve not heard anyone say that he’s stiff, he’s snug, but to excessive.
Low Ki gets my vote, the liberties I’ve seen him take with some UK guys is shocking, absolutely shocking. It’s not even working when you just kick a guy as hard as possible.

Not saying he does it all the time, but he did give KENTA a concussion with a slap... That's pretty damn stiff.

Would Stan Hansen count here? I mean, the guy is great and all, but he cut his teeth in Japan, didn't he?

Nah broke in through the NWA territories. worked for them for almost 10 years. During that time he had a match for WWWF title against Bob backlund. Did a few tour s in Japan after that. won the AWA title in the mid 80's. Actually never lost it. got stripped for definding it in Japan with out permission. So yeah, he counts.

I guess so. I'm just thinking that he was sort of a given because of his time in Japan.

He gained his legacy there, no doubt. Be he's one of ours. Got his start here and had GREAT success here. Big he's a LEGEND there, so he's obviously over shadowed by his work there.

Having just watched his match vs Shane Storm, no idea how I forgot Eddie Kingston.
Anyone with a passing interest in Chikara should try and track down the match, it's from January this year on the 2 Eyebrows Are Better Than 1 show. Absolutely brutal, I feel exhausted having just watched it.
