Could it be?
Eagle eyed members of the Gamingring.com message forums spotted a mysterious countdown timer on Fire Pro Wrestling Returns developer Spike’s official Japanese website. You can view the timer here. (http://www.spike.co.jp/countdown/) The timer ends on Friday October 3rd at 3:00 PM EST. This could mean a new Fire Pro Game for next gen systems? Or could it mean that Spike is currently making a sequel to their excellent but unfortunately overlooked King of Colosseum series. Or maybe its something completely different all together. We will have more on this story as it becomes available.

I have no idea what this timer means, but I for one am going to keep an eye on it.

Might be a new Dragon Ball game :(

Also could just be the count-down to the Tokyo Game Show...
Why do they assume it's another wrestling game? Spike makes other games...
Not saying I wouldn't welcome one (especially if it got a US port), but it could be anything...

I want those AKI games brought Stateside first and foremost. A new Firepro would be cool too, as long as it actually gets some expansion.

King of Colosseum.
Also, spike only does the teaser stuff for wrestling games. Although I'm still preparing myself for dissapointment.

I got the last Fire Pro. Loved all those options, but the SNES quality took me out of the game too often. I'm not a graphics whore, but I draw a line somewhere. If Fire Pro was a handheld exclusive I could vibe with that, but I felt silly playing a fairly recent PS2 game in 2008 sporting sprites. And not even sharp high res sprites in the vein of Guilty Gear or even Street Fighter Alpha.
Love the options and gameplay, but its time for a presentation overhaul.

I'll take gameplay over graphic, thank you;

With the graphical power of the PS3 and the 360 (hell, even the PS2 really), there is no reason the sprites can't been as sharp as Street Fighter 3 or Guilty Gear XX at the very least.

Nah, for a 2D game, going proper HD makes it damn expensive, at least according to the guys that did Castlevania. SSF2 can do it because there's only a few characters. Try doing it for 100's of wrestlers + CAW parts.
It would be easier to use polygons and just keep the perspective as-is to keep the feel (or my preferable option, keep it the same as it is now).

Okay, still something of an overhaul. Improved sprites, 3D models, something!
I'd like to see them keep the exact engine but put the wrestlers as 3D models as Hasney said. That would expand the animations possible and make edits and the wrestlers more detailed.
That said, I love the current style. It works and looks great.

Got all excited, got back on at 3 to see what it was, then realized I was a day early. Then I got really depressed realizing it wasn't Friday at 3 pm after all.

I dunno, if I want photorealistic 3D wrestlers, I'll play Smackdown vs RAW and create my own guys. FPW offers something different and unique. It's too bad the last FPW game for the PC was in 1995, IIRC.

I would love Firepro with the No Mercy/Revenge/World Tour/WM2000 look.

Actually, something like that wouldn't be half bad. It would still allow us to customize the wrestlers, and any pre-existing wrestlers would use the CAW system as well (just like No Mercy/et al).

I'd be very surprised if it was for the PS3 or the 360. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a PS2 game. The problem with getting better sprites is a memory issue. I'd rather have those sprites with 8 people on the screen, then say, Street Fighter Alpha 2 sprites, with 4 or 6. Plus, the odd thing about Firepro, is the sprite quality helps in creating people. You probably won't get as accurate as looking CAWs with their edit system if the graphics were at SFA2 level. Who knows though?

Sprites dont bother me. PS2 Fire Pro was way too fucking hard and complicated.
I want no Mercy with updated graphics, thats all I want
Playing on 10 on FPR doesn't give me a challenge if I've been playing for a few days. I need to take a few days/weeks off for my timing to wear off. It gets TOO easy.
Still the best wrestling game ever.

Yeah, FP isn't that hard.

I'd prefer a new KOC really... The counters in that game are fucking amazing.

Not surprised really.
Also the edits you get off the guys on the Fire Pro forums are SOOOOOO easy cause they're made to sim so they hardly ever try to beat you. It sucks. RANDOM THOUGHT.

Considering how the CAWs are made up of different bits and pieces, I bet it would be possible to do very well, although it would take a very long ass time to redraw all the sprites in sharp graphic quality.
Not surprised really.

I tend to mix it with defaults just as much as the edits I have.
Anyone vs. Jumbo Tsuruta is a challenge on 10. Only beat him maybe twice so far, both with KENTA.
Vader can be a pain in the ass too.

The edits I make are designed to play against so they provide some challenge if I get the right match up. Taking Paul London against Triple H for example is a tough order.
