God I can't stand Cena's on-screen WWE character. He's probably a great guy behind the scenes, but I can't stand watching him wrestle.

I mean, it'd be great if it was Cage who attacked Christian but it'd be awesome if it was HHH too. It'd be so obvious that it'd be shocking. It'd also mark a textbook HHH heel turn/act. Perfect timing for a Hardy/HHH WWE title main event at Mania too.

Jeritron
12-14-2008, 10:54 PM
Not everything has to happen at Mania. It's the storybook version everyone wants for their favorite wrestlers but theres 12 other months a year. It'd be nice to see him get the Austin and Michaels treatments but its not always important and not everyone can be that lucky.

Mick Foley won his title on a random Raw and it's far more memorable and epic than half of the Wrestlemania title wins.
I'm a firm believer that the moment defines the event, and the event doesn't define the moment.
Wrestlemania is full of great moments, making it the greatest event. It doesn't take from this moment that it wasn't there though.
Great stuff.

Plus, maybe WWE wants to see if Jeff can handle this kind of spotlight without imploding before giving him a WrestleMania Moment. Maybe this is a trial run to see if he can go three months on top without getting suspended again.

That's with full acknowlegement to the fact that there was plenty of shit booking and head-scratchers to speak of.
I just felt the amount of mark out moments, and the overall freshness and change that occured this year was greater than the very trite string of years before it.
It's a good thing when the promotion and respective brands feel different than they were at years beginning.

2008>>>>>2005-07

Still, it has a long way to go before being > the years before those.

Jeritron
12-14-2008, 11:59 PM
Lets be fair here. Just because some of us think Cena sucks doesn't mean him winning the rumble was shitting on the rumble. In fact, it was far more shocking and fresh (exciting) than previous years where the winner was labeled from a mile away and followed a clear path to the win. At best, it was between two guys (one from each brand).
Even though Cena sucks, at least it was a swerve. Taker winning again would have been pointless.

Even though Cena sucks, at least it was a swerve. Taker winning again would have been pointless.

Somebody just turning up out of the blue and winning it though, dispassionate of it being Cena, doesn't do it justice for me. There have been a few in recent years that weren't terribly obvious. Taker's definitely wasn't, He Who Must Not Be Named was one of several possibilities but definitely not a foregone conclusion, and Batista wasn't really the only choice that year either. It would have been less obnoxious to me if he had come out in the 10-15 range instead of dead last. When he showed up last his win was a foregone conclusion. Showing up earlier wouldn't have been much less of a giveaway, mind, but it would have helped.

Incidentally, it isnt just Cena's win that constitutes defication here, it's also pissing away the title shot a month later at a lower-tier PPV that was the BIG insult.

Your saying a stoner would get rid of something that trippy?

You're right, they'll probably just put the Hardy Boy symbol in there.

You call yourself a wrestling fan, remembering things that happened more then 6 months ago.

...I'm sorry. :shifty:

Gotta agree with you there, that was crap. Cena showing up out of nowhere to win it, then using his WM title shot at No Way Out??? Even though the triple threat at Mania was good, logically Cena shouldn't have even been in it. He used is shot at NWO and didn't win the title. His own stupidity should have kept him out of the WM title match.

Wow.

I completely forgot the PPV was today... and now I'm pretty angry about it. So I checked the 'highlights' package of the main event on WWE.com and JR's commentary was outstanding.

I don't know which was worse. Hardy winning, or Orton losing.

Gonna be interesting to see what goes down on RAW tonight.

Yeah I hate that Orton and Jericho both jobbed cleanly.

I don't mind Hardy. I just don't get throwing the belt on Edge and having him drop it to Jeff a few weeks after. :?:

Probably has to do with HHH. Either they didn't want to job him, HHH didn't want to job (which I actually see as the least likely believe it or not), or they're saving the Hardy over HHH job for a later date i.e Mania. I see the latter as the most likely, but who knows.

It's called a transitional champion.

One of my biggest pet peeves of brand extension is when a new champion or big event occurs in the world of Smackdown, and it isn't the lead off of Raw.
I know this is because of the seperate brands, but Raw traditionally captializes off of buzz like this before brand extension and was always great because it adressed the topic while it was hot.
In a better time, todays buzz would be culminated with Jeff Hardy kicking off Raw, and maybe even a big answer to the hotel attack.
Thing would go places while they were still fresh in peoples minds.

Instead, we watch a show by the same promotion that has nothing to do with the PPV's defining moment, and the buzz is lost.
It's practically an afterthought by the time friday rolls around.
