I want Vince McMahon back as a commentator, god dammit. Nobody could pretend he thought that was a 3-count like Vince. At least he needs to commentate the Rumble.

I see no faults with Mr. Cole. Or, at any rate, no moreso than with King or JR.
Replace him with Joey Styles.
Was actually going to say "Find me a man as god as JR and you can fire Michael Cole", but you found someone who at least in between. Joey isn't bad at all, but for some reason he just doesn't fit with the WWE style. Whether he isn't good while being produced or just too set in his ways to change (idk), he just doesn't seem to be what WWE...and therefore we don't get him.

"WAIT A MINUTE!"
i've been calling for Cole's firing ever since WrestleMania XV when he messed up about Austin winning the title.
And I miss Vince on commentary. "One...two...WE GOT A NEW CHAM...oh no..."
Or what he would say to Lawler after an insult: "How dare you!"

I don't hate Cole, I just think he doesn't fit in as well on RAW. He was fine on SmackDown and should just return there. Not sure what it is, but he just seems kind of annoying on RAW. And I swear he says the name of the show at least 50 times each broadcast. They should just move JR back to RAW, or even Joey Styles.

Yes.
It is pretty convenient, I guess. I know they haven't mentioned on tv that Sim Snuka is Superfly's adopted son, but King saying he can see the resemblence "in the face, but not in the actions" is just retarded. Not being King or JR doesn't make you immune to imperfection.

They will switch back someday. Little doubt should be carried on that.
I hate Lawler tbh. It's hypocritical of him to sit there and correct Cole (thus making him look bad) when he's been sat next to JR fucking up for years.
Striker is really impressive - his knowledge of the business is outstanding.
Personally I'd love Heyman back. He some how made JR tolerable.

Its pretty obvious why. A group of 2nd generation superstars wouldn't be as cool if it was a group of step children or adopted children. The idea is that they are continuing the greatness of their parents. He was simply covering it and selling the character.

No, I usually laugh when King does it because he tries to cover it up in hillarious ways most the time. He basically knows when he botched something. Cole on the other hand appears completely oblivious to his mistakes.
I do think Cole is awful, but not bad enough to get rid of him. He just doesnt fit on RAW IMO. He was much better on SD. It is really just a combination of things.

Well, you are talking about wrestling fans, here. The flaws of the established are okay because it's traditional. As a whole, the wrestling community will even make up excuses to justify the old over the new.
Plus, it doesn't hurt that King makes the other guys look bad. Gaffs are easier to see when someone's pointing them out, so when JR or King says "you're wrong," It is more visible than the new guy.
I know Cole's not really "new" per se, but there's a problem with announcers just as much as with performers, in that they've generated a tiered system that prevents anyone from really stepping up. I doubt King or Ross want to let anyone get good or become established, because that means their replacement is on the way. As long as they're the de facto best in the business, they have job security. Just like as long as Trips and Taker are the considered the de facto top names, they have a spot. Of course, Trips is bad example, because he can justify himself for other reasons, but....

Michael Cole works really well when he's with a good partner, but when he's with a shitty one, it makes you want to see death to the existence of sound.
When he was with Tazz, JBL and Mick Foley, Cole was more than tolerable. At times he has been the best play-by-play commentator on one of the big shows. Or at least part of the best broadcast team. With Jerry Lawler, though, who is just redundant with his current "I'm as much a face as anyone" character, there's just no dynamic.
I'd actually replace Jerry Lawler before I replaced Michael Cole. Have John Bradshaw Layfield go back to the commentary desk, if you need to. Paul Heyman would probably agree to another paycheck, and even if the WWE didn't like using him in creative, I think they really valued him as an on-screen performer. Tazz could also use another promotion for the years he's put into commentary. He and Cole were great together.

Can I just say: I hope Todd Grisham and Matt Striker get to call the entirety of the Royal Rumble Match. As "2008 Announcers of the Year" I think they earn the right to call a match like that. Those two are going to be great for the WWE one day (hell, they are already), so giving them that sort of exposure would be fantastic.

Well said KK.
Hell when it comes down to it, there aren't that many people out there who could be good to great annoucers. I mean if by some way Mr. Kennedy ended up behind the desk, I would more than likely work out. A lot of people toss out Josh Mathews as a "hopefully one day" type of guy. Other than those two I can't see anyone else "knowen" filling in the annoucing seat. As for Cole he atless has made that crappy announcing style his knowen for style.
And let's face it, Bradshaw isn't going back unless he has no other choice. As we all knew never say never, but I really do not see Heyman EVER annoucing again. Joey seems happy with the job he has, and also never set well with the WWE fans. Oh and Coach is having a ball on ESPNews.

Cole on his own free will announcing is fine.
That is true, to a degree. Some blame needs to be put onto the talent to do their job well, regardless, but commentating is something that has been exposed as having far less freedom than one would think.
See, I'm sure Todd Grisham and Matt Striker get fed lines, and such, as would Tazz, but those three all manage to do so well at what they do. And although Mick Foley could not handle it, he was amazing for the duration he was working SmackDown!.
Michael Cole is obviously going to be handicapped with Vince McMahon in his ear, but other guys have been able to thrive under that pressure. So should he. That being said, I do like Cole, and I wish he would be allowed to portray a smarmy and witty character, like he appears to be able to do in real life. His biased face character gets really annoying.

I know many people are not a big fan of angles involving announcers and shit like that, but one thing that I think is holding Cole back, is that he has no real relationship with the fans. Hell, the only reason to ignore Jim Ross' slip-ups today is because of what he means to fans. It's not like the guy is still a good commentator.
It's a delicate situation, but if Cole could get chewed out by a heel authority figure on RAW, and then tell them to go screw themselves, he could get the fans on side. I still sort of see the guy in the same sort of pool as generic broadcasting team members, with the only thing setting Cole apart being the length of time Cole has been on one of the big shows.

Although this thread is about the sucktitude (or lack thereof) of Michael Cole, I'm going to try and bring a general question into the mix:
With the new WWE Superstars show coming in April being revealed to be something closer to Heat or Velocity than an Afterburn or Confidential type show, who do you think the commentators for it should be?
Now is the time to use Josh Mathews, I think. Just have to think of a partner for him. He works with Dusty Rhodes in FCW, and I have been told they are entertaining, but would that take too much away from Rhodes' duties in FCW? Maybe Joey Styles and Josh Mathews as guys who have done both play-by-play and color forming one two-headed beast of announcing greatness?

I think Cole gets some of the most unnecessary heat in the company, and I feel like most of it is because he's not JR. When they were first trying to push him down our throats and squeezing JR out, there was a lot of backlash and rightfully so. He wasn't very good and didn't know a lot about the product. But he's been with the company for 16 years now and is the best play-by-play man they have. Most everything that could be considered annoying about him can be credited to having Vince screaming in his ear.
Also, this is still probably one of the funniest things I've seen from the WWE in years:
