There are still four guys in the ring with a legitimate shot at winning this Rumble, by my count. Orton, HHH, UT, and Jericho. Any one of them would make a logical WM challenger. One of the better-booked Rumbles in a while.

It's not the 25th anniversary of WrestleMania! It's the 25th WrestleMania. The 25th Mania would have to happen 25 years after the first WrestleMania. The day something happens isn't its first anniversary.
I think an anniversary is one year from the date of an original event - like the 25th anniversary of Star Wars, or whatever.
it's the 25th anniversary of the original: "WrestleMania." I don't see what the problem is here.

Right so the 1st anniversary of Wrestlemania would be Wrestlemania 2. So it's one year off and Wrestlemania 25 would be the 24th anniversary

One very subtle thing that I absolutely loved that I saw Cody Rhodes do and maybe a couple others was actually checking to see if the guy he threw over the top hung on or not. And then Cody was trying to pry the guy's fingers open. Very tiny detail but it's one that really adds to believability of the performance.

I can't. I'm a stickler for semantics, and when people are just blatantly misusing the english language on a live international broadcast, it drives me nuts. It's the reason I can't stand JR. He's an affront to my language, and the fact that no one corrected him for three hours makes me angry.

Jeritron

I enjoyed it because I ordered it to see a royal rumble, some wrestling matches. I got that.
That's what was advertised and expected. IWC expected Christian, and they suprised us the other way. I wanted him to show up as much as the next guy but oh well.
PPVs are for wrestling and the rumble itself was the draw.
I also got swerved. Christian coming out wouldn't have swerved me. I'd have marked out, but now I got suprised and I can get that markout at a later date.

I was interested if WWE would actually do something called shocking entertainment. You expected it Christian to return, him not returning shocked you.
PS-if you only watch wrestling to be shocked you've been watching for the wrong reasons. If you have a brain in your head it's next to inmpossible to be shocked by wrestling unless it's an angle that doesn't make sense. As long as it's smart booking (and you're a smart fan [I know I know, I ask too much]) they're gona be hard pressed to "shock" you. Luckly that's probably not on their agenda anyhow.

i think i should maybe start watching wrestling again. all i did was read this thread not watch the rumble because i didn't even have an interest in it until i was so bored on tpww that it became the only active thing to pay attention to and it was way late in the rumble. 1) i should it watch because things sound interesting lately 2) if i'm here at tpww.net/forums doing nothing while wrestling on at least i have a reason to post something relevant.

What, you're an idiot. This was top to bottom a very entertaining show. All of the matches were enjoyable, even Cena/JBL, which I was expecting nothing from, was good thanks to Michael's part. And the Rumble itself was one of the better ones in recent memory. Condemning the whole show just because you didn't get to mark out for Christian is dumb.
Loved Matt's turn. Really interested in that feud, particularly if Christian is involved, because I could see it leading to a Matt/Edge Vs. Jeff/Christian TLC match at Mania. RVD in the Rumble was an awesome legit surprise to me, something that is way too rare in wrestling today. Also, fuck, Orton is a superstar. I dunno if something has changed in the way he carries himself, or if I'm just perceiving it differently, but he looks top tier to me now.
Also, goddamn Splaya, did you turn off your caps lock once during the show? I can just picture you watching the show, bouncing around your living room, all jacked up on Mountain Dew.

rumbles are amazing.
At one of the bars near my college they had 80s night, and showed the 92 rumble on the big screen. I know it makes no sense, but I think they were jsut trying to capture the old school WWF thing and I'm sure I was one of the only people who knew the year.
Anyways, it was amazing in the background drinking but what was awesome was that 3 hours later towards the end of the rumble everyone was obviously drunk and there was a crowd around the big screen cheering the match on.

It was quite an experience live. I had a great view of the ring will try to post some pics later. Though due to my seats, I couldn't see too much of the entrance, especially with the sides of the ramp.
This will be one of my favorite Rumbles of all time as nearly everything I wanted to happen did. Orton winning, Edge winning the title back, and Swagger retaining. If HBK would have cost Cena the title, my night would have been near complete. I absolutely marked the f out when RVD returned. I had casually mentioned it to my buddies that it would be awesome, but I didnt completely expect it.
Now after a wild RR attending, I now get to go to ROH on Friday night, so I had best regain most of my voice I lost at the show tonight.

Nothing new to add really, I enjoyed the show top to bottom.
Swagger vs. Matt was nothing special but did what it was meant to I guess. I havent watched ECW since Show was champ really so yea...
Cena vs. JBL was pretty good, yea Cena won but heading into Mania I think JBL was a dead option to carry the belt anyway, even with the Elimination chamber coming up. You dont really want it chaging hands the month before Mania surely?
Jeff vs. Edge was great I felt, brutal, intense when it needed to be and even though everyone knew the turn was an option there was a lot of "They will never pull the trigger on it" talk going around. Credit where its due they do keep pulling the trigger over the last 12 months when we all expect them not to.
And might just be me but it felt very new generation to me to see Edge and Jeff Hardy "Headlining" a big four PPV. It felt almost like a natural progression that should have happened a year or so back (Jeffs drug issues aside)
As for the Rumble, I loved it, quick start off action, some quite highrisk moves for a Rumble I felt. I marked the fuck out for RVD, to much to hope he might win sadly. And tbh he looked a little off anyway. The only real disapointment to me was the way there was so many guys in the ring at once, I was sure Kane would break his 11 elimination record but no. In the end though so many guys in at once was quite refreshing, I enjoyed it.
For some reason when it came to number 30 I expected to hear Austins music, no idea why.
Does anyone think that Raw will be Legacys big night??? The Rumble was pretty big for them but I mean like out as a group, group intro and music, maybe even a stare down or battle with some Mc Mahon "Goons" looking for revenge. I almost see these guys becoming Anti Heroes at a stage, they almost seem to cool to be heels.
Oh and to whoever said they started seeing Randy as a big time player tonight I agree, I have had markout moments for him before but never looked on him as truly a big time player. Yet tonight from earlyish in the Rumble I was calling him as winner and hoping to see it.

Ti be honest no, I figured WWE wasnt stupid enough to have him lose his title shot from the rumble at NWO, then win at WM.

In my opinion, Legacy went over HUGE. The WWE (and Legacy themselves) really established themselves last night.
-I love how Legacy, while not "friends" (i.e. Dibiase dislikes Orton), are all decidedly on the same page and are operating as a major unit.
-I love how Dibiase and Rhodes "knew their roles" and helped Orton out at all times.
-I loved the in-ring psychology displayed by Rhodes. Dibiase was amazing as well.
-I loved how in the end, Orton brought in Rhodes and Dibiase to celebrate his victory.
I am so glad that Team Legacy has dropped Manu. The dude just didn't fit. Overall - team legacy looks great...and they really went over last night.

I have to agree with you on this. I thought they came off very good last night. I especially liked how Ted as booked. Almost every big guy that came in, Ted was usually the first one to go after him.
I liked how they booked Cody eliminating Goldust. It was almost as if Orton made him do it, but then was telling him trust me on this.
Ted had the crap beat out of him but he kept surviving. One of the better booking/build up jobs they've done in a while.

Wasn't able to watch it live last night, but I stayed away from any wrestling sites until I had the chance to watch a repeat stream earlier today. I came in right at the start of the WH title match, so the first time around I was able to see the two world title matches and the Rumble, which were the only things I was really interested in anyway.
I loved the "Let's Go Cena"..."CENA SUCKS" chants throughout most of the match, and for the first part of the match the chants were more interesting than the in-ring stuff itself. The ref bump was pretty inevitable, but the match at least got interesting after that point, if not only to see what would happen with the HBM storyline. Had a feeling Michaels would give the SCM to JBL (sort of called it in Tipsters), but the finish was pretty obvious once Michaels also hit Cena. Whatever...at least it progressed the storyline, even if it went on a bit long.
Edge/Hardy was good as it usually is, since they know each other so well. Everything's pretty much been said about this match already. Matt's turn was executed perfectly...I kind of had a feeling of it happening when he came in and Christian didn't make an appearance before that, but it was still great. The staredown after the chairshot was priceless, as was Edge's expression after it happened (never taking his eyes off Matt and keeping the look of disbelief on his face the whole time).
I liked the Rumble overall, since there were smaller confrontations throughout most of it. I liked Legacy working together as a team and making it to the end, and actually liked the fact that it was Trips that eliminated Rhodes and DiBiase instead of Orton making them jump over themselves or whatever...they were booked to look pretty strong for once. The only thing I didn't really like was the giant clusterfuck the match got to be for awhile...too many guys in the ring for anyone to do much else than finishers and punching up against the ropes, and too much to watch at once. Santino getting eliminated immediately and then crying "but I wasn't ready!!" was priceless.
Heyman
01-26-2009, 06:26 PM
The only low-point for me was the fact that it was too obvious that Orton was going to win (i.e. on the verge of being 'fired' by Vince the RAW before the rumble, Jericho's backstage stuff with Orton, etc.).
I also think it's obvious that Orton will go over Cena at Mania.
