It had to eventually get done, so here you go.
Guitar Hero 5 starts the party on September 1 (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/27/guitar-hero-5-starts-the-party-on-september-1/)

<CENTER>http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/05/guitarhero0527.jpg (http://gh5.guitarhero.com/)</CENTER>The website for Guitar Hero 5 (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/18/guitar-hero-5-getting-music-studio-tweaks-band-moments/) opened, revealing the release date for this year's biggest Guitar Hero sequel: September 1. Expect to somehow end up purchasing it whether you want to or not, just like every Guitar Hero game.
If you'd like more info on this inevitable purchase, Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/puzzle/guitarhero5/news.html?sid=6210252&tag=topslot;thumb;1) posted, in addition to some new screens and brief footage, some details on the game's new "Party Play" mode. This feature is designed to allow total flexibility in social situations. Party Play allows you to start the game with no players, using a playlist of Guitar Hero music as a sort of jukebox. When people decide they want to play a song, they can pick up an instrument, push a button, and begin playing immediately.
This is also where the game's instrument flexibility (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/15/guitar-hero-5-lets-you-cram-4-drumsets-into-your-living-room/) comes in. Party Play is designed to allow any combination of instruments, in case you want to play Barbershop Quartet Hero.
Seriously doubt I'll be using it as a jukebox. :wtf:

lol sry meant to paste font code. NEWayz.
I don't like reading stuff. While all my crap from GH4 be able to be in GH5? I am one of those people that hate swapping discs in my Wii and want to just keep one in there and be able to play my old stuff. If this is not possible I probably won't waste my money.

Do you mean your on-disc crap or DLC? Because most of the DLC will be forward compatible, as was confirmed in another thread. Don't know about the shit on-disc though. Probably not.
road doggy dogg
05-27-2009, 01:17 PM
A little bit of both. I'd prefer everything, but I could see how that'd be an issue (trying to get 90ish songs from the old game). I guess that's just the nature of having a Wii, and no external hard drive.

Since "good" and "bad" are subjectives in the same way "taste" is, there's no point in artificially distinguishing between what should be permissible.

Least RB2 will be getting updates. But there's not much of a need for a new RB any time soon, anyway. there is a need for a new GH, because of the model they use.
I'll probably get it. The only question is, new, used, or bargain bin? It's not that the GH franchise is a bad one, but I'm not spending a lot of money on it.

It is an odd setlist, but I imagined this event. If your reason for continuing the franchise (GH or RB) is to dive into unlicensed songs and basically update the setlist every once in a while - and not because you have anything to add to the genre technically speaking, this is what we'll run into.
Neversoft is on the 'new songs' train (I really don't have RB3 news to justify adding criticism to Harmonix - but I'm watching them). Now I will be honest, GH5's feature set is lacking. And it's lacking because they don't really have a drive to extend the music-game genre (as Harmonix did from GH to RB). They threw in completely out of monetary reasons. Not that it's such a bad thing, greed provided half the shit we love right now. But if they got no real bleeding edge idea for the genre, all they can do is license new songs.
You see, if they provided some great new gameplay concept I wouldn't give a shit about playing songs that were already charted (up to three times, some of these songs!), because I'm experiencing them in a fresh way. This is why it didn't bother playing something on Rock Band that was on GH before, or playing something on GH's user-friendly chart philosophy when it was on RB prior. But if you're not in the business of moving the genre forward, re-charting tracks will feel old and stale if we're playing it the same damn way.

They pretty much admitted it's the same thing except for the touch frets being digital rather than analog (one of those rare cases of downgrading to improve), and the strum bar having texture to it to reduce chances of slipping (good idea). Guess they were pleased with the WT guitar, though I'd say this proves they have little ideas to add to the genre.
Kane Knight
07-14-2009, 09:32 AM
When they announced that, they also announced they had a thirteen minute song in the pipes.
honestly, I think the WT Guitar had one of the best improvements ever: Placement of the back button so you can OD/SP with it without moving your hand. It seriously is just hat good an idea. I'm not sure you can fault them for nothing big, though, as RB2 and even TBRB don't have significant improvements on their guitars. And those are the guys who aren't just in it for the money. :p

I'm just gay for three-tier fret buttons. Probably won't see that this generation (aside from that $200 3rd party axe).
And then you wouldn't rest until we had 144 buttons and six strum bars to better replicate the guitar experience. And effects pedals, and so on.
I hope to God that shit doesn't happen. Mostly because it'll piss you off, but also because it's fucktarded and further clutters a simple game. If you get your way, there will come a point where the douchebags saying "get a real guitar" will be completely validated in doing so.

RedOctane unveils Guitar Hero 5 drums (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/16/red-octane-unveils-guitar-hero-5-drums/)

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/07/gam_gh5drums_580.jpg (http://redoctane.us/storeblog/?p=172)
We're guessing that of all the tiny plastic instruments you've collected in your den, drum sets are still the most uncommon. Therefore, you may be able to scrounge up a smidgen of enthusiasm for the image above, which depicts the drum peripheral (http://redoctane.us/storeblog/?p=172) that will come bundled with select versions of Guitar Hero 5 (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5) when the game launches this September.
This revelation brings up two interesting points -- first, RedOctane is viciously taking the wind out of the sails of Logitech, who revealed its own cymbal-equipped drum peripheral (http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/15/logitech-ups-its-skins-game-with-the-guitar-hero-wireless-drum-c/) yesterday at an unwelcoming price point of $229. Second, it looks like the leaked pictures and list of features we received earlier in the month (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/06/rumor-guitar-hero-5-drum-set-to-look-an-awful-lot-like-rock-ban/) were legit -- and as you surely know, every time a leak is proven legitimate, an angel gets its wings.

Activision confirms 22 more GH5 tracks, details pre-order bonuses (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/16/activision-confirms-22-more-gh5-tracks-details-pre-order-bonuse/)

At this point, we're pretty much 100% confident that the "unofficial" Guitar Hero 5 track list (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/08/unofficial-the-complete-guitar-hero-5-track-list/) we got last week was dead on. After confirming the entire list of bands (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/31/these-are-the-artists-rocking-out-in-guitar-hero-5/) back in May, Acitivision officially announced 22 more tracks today (in addition the already revealed 24, making a grand total of 46 out of 85 revealed so far. And wouldn't you know it, every one of those songs was already on that "unofficial" list we already had.
The peripheral-inclined publisher also revealed the variety of pre-order bonuses that eager GH5 (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5) consumers will pick up alongside the game at various retailers, ranging from GameStop (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/gamestop)'s two free playable songs (isn't that like, a demo?) to Amazon (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/amazon)'s promise of five free mp3s. Hit the break for all the officially confirmed tracks thus far.

We've been blown away by the effort Activision and Neversoft have put into making Guitar Hero 5 (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5) actually worth playing -- but their most recent move may be their wisest yet. A recent IGN preview of the title (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/101/1011988p1.html) revealed the game will allow players to import "some" of the tracks from World Tour (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour) and Smash Hits (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-smash-hits) into GH5 (and Band Hero (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/band-hero)) for a small fee. In addition, 125 of World Tour's 128 DLC tracks will automatically work in the two upcoming rhythm titles. Of all the features to borrow from Rock Band 2, the removal of bothersome disc-swapping is one of the best.
For those who aren't particularly thrilled by this piece of news, try this one on for size: Johnny Cash will be a playable character (http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14303807/guitar-hero-5/videos/guitar5_trl_johnnycash_8709.html) in Guitar Hero 5. There's a video of the black-suited man performing "Ring of Fire" after the jump. We suggest checking it out -- but only if you like things that are completely badass.

I couldn't imagine it being more than RB's $5.
I think he meant how much the "some" tracks will end up being. Not cost but number.
Remember, RB was all but three, for example. This was ambiguous for a long time, however. They fed us over time, including the majority of tracks, and then "almost all" before we finally got a real number.
with this, I wonder what we get. A handful of tracks? Most? If it's most, I'll love them forever (Especially if I can select what I import).
More on Guitar Hero 5 song import, DLC support (Band Hero will do it, too) (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/10/more-on-guitar-hero-5-song-import-dlc-support-band-hero-will-d/)

<center>http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/08/gh50805.jpg
Yes, Guitar Hero 5 (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5) is getting all modern-like and letting those who buy it -- and own other GH games -- access all those songs they already bought (on disc or in DLC form) without firing up another title. GH5 and the upcoming Band Hero (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/band-hero) will work with songs from the Guitar Hero World Tour (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour) and Guitar Hero Smash Hits (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-smash-hits) game discs, along with GHWT DLC -- even on Wii.
PS3 and Xbox 360 owners who own GHWT will be able to download a free update from within GH5 that enables DLC backwards-compatibility (for 152 of 158 available tracks) and adds new GH5-specific features to their existing DLC. In order to rip the tracks from GHWT and SH discs will need to purchase what Activision says will be a "nominal re-licensing fee" and have the unique 20-digit code on the back of the games' manuals. As with Rock Band 2 (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/rock-band-disc-content-can-be-ported-to-rb2-for-5/), all songs from the discs will be ripped to the systems' hard disks, but unwanted tracks can be individually deleted.
The process will be similar on Wii, with a couple noteworthy differences. First, DLC must be re-downloaded (to add new GH5 features, plus they'll sound better) either en mass or track-by-track to the Wii's internal memory or (thankfully) SD card. There'll also be an individual song copy option for importing disc-based songs from GHWT. Now to find out what those six DLC tracks that aren't supported are ...

So, If you can rip ALL the tracks from World Tour and Smash Hits, I just might buy this after all, then I could sell WT and SH.
I hope it really is all tracks from both. Of course, I'd delete some. Especially that shitty Metallica song.

Activision clarifies Guitar Hero 5 song importing process (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/11/activision-clarifies-guitar-hero-5-song-importing-process/)
by Randy Nelson (http://www.joystiq.com/bloggers/randy-nelson/) { 1 hour ago } http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/001xbox001.png (http://xbox.joystiq.com/) http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/001nintendo001.png (http://nintendo.joystiq.com/) http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/001playstation001.png (http://playstation.joystiq.com/)

Activision's announcement (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/10/more-on-guitar-hero-5-song-import-dlc-support-band-hero-will-d/) that songs from Guitar Hero World Tour (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-world-tour) and Smash Hits (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-smash-hits) can be "imported" into Guitar Hero 5 (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5) (and Band Hero (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/band-hero)) had everyone thinking back to Rock Band 2 (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band-2)'s ability to rip songs (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/04/video-rock-band-export-feature-in-action/) right off the original Rock Band disc. As it turns out, in this case you won't need a disc at all.
We followed up with the publisher to find out exactly how the process works, as it had been referred to as both "importing" and "downloading" on an initial info sheet. The short answer: you'll be downloading new versions of your old songs. "Within the Guitar Hero 5 song import menu, gamers will key in their unique ID from the manual of the previous game, pay a small re-licensing fee and then be given access to download the available songs (like DLC) in a big batch," we were told this morning. That's for PS3 and 360; with the Wii version, the songs can be downloaded on a track-by-track basis.
"This is done to bring these songs up to date with enhanced Guitar Hero 5 features like band moments, expert+ drumming (new for World Tour songs) and the new vocal star power. The game reacts to these songs as though they were DLC and are available in the same play modes," Activision explained.
So, you just need the manual (and a decent internet connection). Unfortunately, this means that some second-hand copies of GHWT and Smash Hits can't be used for the process, as they'll either be missing the original game manual, or their previous owner already redeemed the 20-digit code. "These codes can be used only once," a PR rep revealed. "However, once you have downloaded the content, you are free to re-download it at anytime at no extra cost, if you need to make more hard drive or SD [card] space."

Before it's even on store shelves.
The publisher has announced a ridiculous offer (http://hub.guitarhero.com/vanhalengameoffer/) -- buy specially-marked copies of Guitar Hero 5 in September, and it'll send you an advanced copy of Guitar Hero: Van Halen. The catch here is that this is a mail-in offer, and you'll have to wait up to six weeks to receive your copy of Guitar Hero: Van Halen. But considering that game isn't set to hit shelves until December 22, you should quiet your whining.
There's no doubt that this is a fantastic deal, but it does call into question the quality of Guitar Hero: Van Halen. Not only have Activision been quiet on the game for long after its official announcement prior to E3, but now they're giving it away for free. This should be interesting.
OK, that's a good deal
Such a good deal that it's been posted twice. :p

What countries is this available in?
USA only
What retailers is this available at?
Every retailer
What if I call Gamestop, and they don't know what i'm talking about?
More than half of the time Gamespot is wrong. Plus it just got announced a couple of hours ago.
How do I know if the Guitar Hero 5 I get has this offer?
It is specially marked with a sticker.
Does this offer apply to people that pre-ordered before today and after today?
Yes and anyone that buys it during September
Does this work for the Guitar Bundle to?
Yes.
How do I redeem this promotion?
You can redeem online or mail in your unique id on manual, sticker on package, and your receipt.
How long do I have to wait to get the game?
6-8 weeks
So I get Guitar Hero Van Halen for free if I live in the U.S. and buy Guitar Hero 5 on or shortly after release?
Yes. It is epic!
Plus I get it before it releases?
Yes. It comes out December 22 and you will get it a couple months earlier. Also epic
Diesel Mac, you can just omit the manual when trading in the game. When I traded in shit (I DON'T NOW), I would just give them the disc. You get the same trade in value, plus you get a spare case if and when you need one down the road.

Activision's making it awfully hard for folks across this big blue world of ours to not purchase their upcoming rhythm title, Guitar Hero 5 (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitar-hero-5) -- here in the States, folks who purchase the game are eligible to receive Guitar Hero: Van Halen (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/11/buy-guitar-hero-5-get-guitar-hero-van-halen-for-free/) for free. However, in the United Kingdom, the offer is incredibly sweeter -- those who pre-order Guitar Hero the Fifth through Amazon can also grab Guitar Hero: World Tour (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Guitar-Hero-Bundle-Xbox-360/dp/B002A9JGUO/ref=pe_14041_16525351_as_img_2/) for the low, low price of nothing.
OXM received instructions (http://www.oxm.co.uk/article.php?id=13184) from Amazon.UK on how to utilize the offer -- simply add Guitar Hero 5 (on any platform) to your basket, then add the special promotional version of World Tour for the appropriate console. Go to checkout, and the price of the latter will magically change to zilch. If only this kind economic wizardry applied to every purchase in our life.

While original Rock Band (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band) owners were given the luxury to continue to buy new tracks for the music title even after the release of its sequel, Guitar Hero fans won't be given the same option when Guitar Hero 5 lands on store shelves. An Activision representative told Destructoid (http://www.destructoid.com/guitar-hero-5-dlc-won-t-be-compatible-with-guitar-hero-world-145383.phtml) that DLC for the upcoming Guitar Hero 5 will not be compatible with Guitar Hero: World Tour (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/guitr-hero-world-tour).
According to the Activision rep, Guitar Hero 5 (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guitar-Hero-5/) DLC will be compatible with future titles in the franchise, but "advancements and innovations" made to the upcoming music title do not allow for tracks to be backwards compatible with World Tour. Don't light the torches and grab the pitchforks just yet though, the same reason has been given for The Beatles: Rock Band (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/The-Beatles-Rock-Band/)'s inability to work with previous versions of the game.
Thankfully, Activision has already confirmed tracks from Guitar Hero: World Tour (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Guitar-Hero-World-Tour/) will be compatible with Guitar Hero 5 via an in-game importing process (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/11/activision-clarifies-guitar-hero-5-song-importing-process/) -- which adds new features such as band moments, expert+ drumming and the new vocal star power to older tracks.

As far as I know you need the codes. If you use the code once, and they add more songs, will you have to re download the whole thing?

Um, you buy this and get Gutar Hero: Van Halen for free by mail. Or did you miss that.

Yeah, think I'll just buy this outright and hold on to World Tour and Smash Hits until I'm certain all my favorite songs will be transferable. I'd even hold on to them for 1 or 2 songs if I have to.
Fuck I dunno. I'm already buying the game at full price, but it's a much better deal to spend the extra $$ to get the guitar (which I need, because my RB2 guitar has problems). Comes with a $30 gift card if I do decide to get the bundle which is like spending an extra $10 for a new fucking guitar. BUT I have a used World Tour band kit in the mail, which will be here in a few days. So if that guitar works great then I don't really need the new guitar. FUCK but I really want to play this tomorrow.
I would just buy the game tomorrow and then the bundle, then return the bundle's game with the original's receipt, but it'll have that not for resell shit on the back. :foc:

Also I'm guessing you won't be able to play the GH Tunes you downloaded on this. For I have about 30 tunes that I really like to play once in a while.
For them I will pop in Metallica, since that game is greatness.

Hopefully we get more Rammstein DLC. Sonne and Links 123 are a must.
Would've loved Sonne or Feuer Frei. So many great Rammstein songs to choose from. GH: Rammstein in 2010. :(
In July 2009, "Liebe Ist Für Alle Da", a song reportedly from the new album, was leaked onto the Internet along with promotional materials. This has led Universal Music (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Music_Group) to take action against certain fan sites.[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rammstein#cite_note-9)[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rammstein#cite_note-10)
In August 2009 an interview with Kerrang (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerrang) Richard Z. Kruspe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Z._Kruspe) said 'One track which is set to court controversy is a song called Wiener Blut (Viennese Blood) that is examining the 2008 Fritzl case (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritzl_case). A big part of the interview was that Richard Z. Kruspe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Z._Kruspe) said 'this record was one of the biggest rollercoasters of our lives, Many times we did not believe we'd be able to finish this record. There's a lot of tension. Our Chemistry is really destructive: there are a lot of fights, a lot of aggression and frustrations to make a record' he goes on to say 'At the end of the day, we have to have that, otherwise it wouldn't be Rammstein, he added 'now at the moment, everyone is amazed that the direction is so great, I'm amazed that people are so impressed by the record, now people are calling it "the Black Album (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallica_%28album%29) of Rammstein".
gonna go track down that song

(Note: The six downloadable Jimi Hendrix songs from Guitar Hero World Tour are not included.)
Those are the only ones.
Alright, so I got the guitar bundle. The dude said I can come back on Sunday and they'll price match it with the $30 gift card. I only played Du Hast and Kryptonite so far, and the presentation seems 100x better than World Tour. The guitar looks and feels way better than my RB2 guitar, but I haven't played with it yet. When my World Tour kit comes in a few days, I'll check out the differences.

I'm waiting to get paid then in about 30 min then I'm off to Wal-Mart. Hope they aint sold out.
I need a points card. TRU has apparently never heard of them, because the cashier along with the people on the other end of the walkie talkie were clueless. I also didn't even see a fucking spot for them on the rack.

I'm still out to lunch o how much I like this song list. But there were a lot of tracks on GHWT where I was ambivalent towards or just plain hated.
By way of comparison, there's a lot less I out and out dislike on this set. It's hard to kind of rate the "mehs," but the ends of the spectrum favor GH5 so far.
Then again, I have a lot of shit left to unlock, so my opinion may swing once I've played some of the tracks I don't think I hate yet.
