For some reason I am paranoid that if I copy all my SD card data onto my computer and then back onto my SD card (since you need to wipe it for Bannerbomb) that all of my saved games in the actual roms will be gone. like not the save states i made, the times i actually went to a save point in final fantasy or something. not sure why, but i think this happened to me one time. please somebody prove me wrong.

You might want to check your local Craigslist. A guy I met at school sells copies via craigslist. There is a couple of other guys that do so also.

You mentioned you are having trouble getting your games to work. So yeah, I noticed in my area there is a few guys that sell copies of the game. Usually, for decent prices..around 3-4 bucks.

correct me if i'm wrong here. i follow this guide after i run the wii system update and have homebrew channel deleted. then i install homebrew channel through this bannerbomb thing, and everything he mentions such as "WAD Installer 1.5" will already be on there and ready to run?

you have to understand, it's not just the game itself. it could be which loader you use, to missing a certain cios to everything in between. hell, i could burn you the same copies i play and they might not work in your wii.

Fucking can't believe this. I was so fed up with the loud vibrating noise it was making. Gonna have to send it in to Nintendo. Really wanted to play Silent Hill, too. Burned a copy and everything yesterday. :(

Savio
12-31-2009, 03:06 PM
How did you break it?

G

Bent a metal piece to stop the vibrating, but now it won't read the disc unless I press a different metal piece down while the disc spins.

not sure if it's been mentioned, but if you buy rock band 2 for the wii, you can mod your wii into thinking you've purchased every song on the music store, and even install songs from other rock band/guitar hero games onto RB2. it's quite awesome.

the only downside is, you have to have a legit copy of rock band 2, and buy all the instruments :)

RoXer

G

Wow, holy shit. World Tour DLC has been hacked (http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=162268)not too long ago. If I didn't have the stuff for the 360 I'd def go out and buy a guitar.

Here is all the RB2 DLC hacked. (http://www.wehackwii.com/2009/07/rockband-2-dlc-install-and-all.html#comments) FUCK I'm gonna have to find a cheap guitar. :)

This one (RB2) seems to be easier, because it makes the DLC store show all the songs as purchased, so then you just download what songs you want.

Fuck, man. I think I'm gonna look for a WT guitar and then make a copy of Smash Hits and Metallica, and sell my 360 copy of Metallica, since the career is horrible because you can't do co-op.

WOOOOOOOO

Got the World Tour DLC working. There is one problem, however. You need the retail disc in order to delete the songs off the Wii. Not the SD card, but the Wii memory. Something about the loaders not knowing how to do it. BUT, since there is only ONE song that I wanted (which is the one I paid for on the 360), I will not be needing to delete it and it can stay on my Wii FOREVER. I have burned World Tour, Metallica and Smash Hits. I just need to buy a World Tour guitar now, which is only $34 shipped (new) on eBay. After looking at compatibility charts, I find that the World Tour guitar is the best option.

NOW, I look into RB's DLC.

Question about the DVD app. Is there region coding on it, or would I be able to play region 2 dvd's on my Wii? I figure this would beat buying a region free DVD player.

I wouldn't advise it. I've heard that the Wii disc drive isn't really designed for the wear of playing DVD movies (which admittedly, could be BS), and is it really all that better than downloading DVD Region-Free on your PC, or buying a cheap DVD player ($30?) that will probably have a region hack ( www.videohelp.com )

it plays them just fine. nintendo didn't include it to play dvds because they would have to pay licensing

I believe one of the main causes for ps2 problems was how the disc runs almost 2-3 times faster for a dvd film than a ps2 game and over time of playing dvd films and games, the lens or drive itself would crap out and need to be fixed or replaced.

I assume since the Wii now uses a DVD-like format, they didn't want this issue to be possible and didn't want to pay royalties to the DVD Forum when they made their exclusive deal with Panasonic (who is part of the the DVD Forum).

Yeah you do. But there is a new hack called Indiana Pwns that you can do to get the homebrew channel back if the update deletes it. Dunno how it affects your bootlegged games at all though. All you need is a copy of Lego Indiana Jones.

Question: How well do the emulators for the 8 and 16 bit games run? How is the compatibility? Don't really give a shit about Wii Online play and can get around not fucking with Wii Ware as long as I can play regular (official) games.

Basically would do this specifically for emulation, if I do it. As it is my Wii sits and collects dust except for Gamecube games, which I could use my Gamecube for...

One thing from that list that sticks out to me, is the IOS249 rev 10. I am on rev 19. Not sure if that will help, but try it. I'd get you a link, but everything I installed came in a package.

I'm not too sure since you're already on 4.2. I did everything when I was at 4.1, so I installed everything in the guide. You could try starting at Modify 4.2. Make sure you back up your NAND first.

Good evening gentlemen. My name is Tom- long time reader, first time poster.

So, I've used the Smash Stack exploit to add the Homebrew Channel and added the Homebrew browser. Not entirely which route to use next as there seem to be many viable options. What do you fellows recommend?

Savio

Download Homebrew Browser, lot of useful tools you can get off there.
Register at Demoniod.
Buy Backup Hard-drive.
Take 2 pills and call me in the morning.

1. Already did.
2. Have been for years.
3. Not in the budget.
4. Any two?

Are you trying to just play emulators and stuff, or do you want to do serious hacking, like making bootleg games and whatnot. If you just want emulators then download them from Homebrew Browser and then put your SD card in your computer and put all the roms in the folders that they will give you. If you want to do more serious stuff, ask G

Savio
11-08-2010, 06:02 PM
Yeah I agree with Assman what are you looking to do?

Cooler Tom Schuler
11-08-2010, 07:00 PM
I'll probably do a little emulation, but mostly I'm looking to do burned games.

G
11-08-2010, 07:19 PM
Before we get you started with burning games, let's make sure you can play them first. When did you buy your Wii?

Cooler Tom Schuler
11-08-2010, 07:32 PM
2007

G
11-08-2010, 07:36 PM
Ok. You are good. Recently, Nintendo has used a special disc drive in some Wiis that will not play burnt discs.

What firmware are you on?

Cooler Tom Schuler
11-08-2010, 07:53 PM
4.2

G
11-08-2010, 08:07 PM
Alright

Familiarize yourself with this (http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=171901). Go ahead and get the files by emailing that address and set up your sd card.

Cooler Tom Schuler

Or 4.3. Seems I can't remember things I looked at yesterday.

Cooler Tom Schuler
11-08-2010, 10:06 PM
Alright, so, I've completed everything down to the "congrats". Of the many options presented after this point, what would you recommend?

G
11-09-2010, 05:28 PM
It's been awhile since I've used a disc loader, but I believe I had the most success with NeoGamma. I think it's the one that starts with black (rap) music.

yah

So, I've got Goldeneye running. I can't image there would be any problem with the "have to connect to save" thing, would there?

G
11-10-2010, 08:42 PM
What do you mean "have to connect to save"

Cooler Tom Schuler
11-10-2010, 08:56 PM
Nevermind, I misread it. Silly me. It was saying save data is required to connect to Nintendo Wifi. Oops, opposite.

G
11-10-2010, 09:01 PM
Oh, yeah. And don't be afraid to take any game online, you're not gonna get banned or anything.

G

if anyone is interested, i got black ops working by installing cios 249 rev 20 with base 57.

Savio
11-15-2010, 11:02 PM
how does it play?

G
11-16-2010, 07:08 PM
runs fine for the most part. it'll lag and skip every now and then. it also freezes when you try to change weapons while setting a custom class, so i have to use default classes so far. gonna look into it.

Emperor Smeat
11-16-2010, 08:08 PM
Is it the game itself that is causing the lag and freezing or do you think its more because of the Homebrew program itself since I've heard a few games have some problems when it runs on the program?

G
11-16-2010, 08:58 PM
the lag i'm sure was because i was downloading something. not sure about the freezing though, because every other game i play runs fine.

Has this changed at all? I updated my D2Pro chip, then put in my epic mickey copy, updated wii, now the back up launcher doesn't work and homebrew is gone.. Mickey works though...
What should I do?

G
12-21-2010, 08:02 AM
What kind of update did you do? If you did it through Nintendo, it erases Homebrew.

OssMan
12-21-2010, 10:19 AM
Last time my homebrew got erased I used Indiana Pwns to get it back.

Extreme Angle
12-21-2010, 12:21 PM
Yeah through nintendo... Is there anyway to bypass the update?

G

I don't know about hard modding like you did, but us soft modders use loaders which bypass it. I *think* there are programs that take off the update before you burn the disc.

Can this shit ruin your Wii if you get caught or anything?

G

no. it's nothing like the xbox

Ok, shit.

My kid got a proper game for his bday and it's been run with an update. So I'm now on 4.3e (or 3.4e, well it's updated anyway) and thus, my gamma channel is up the fritz, won't work just closes down.

Only workarounds I've found require me to get a proper copy of Lego Indiana Jones ala Twlight hack, are there any other ways I can make my channels work without getting Indy?

G

One of the following games is required if on 4.3 firmware.
- Super Smash Brothers Brawl, All Wii's.
- Yu-Gi-OH 5D's Wheelie Breakers, All Wii's.
- Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, All Wii's.
- LEGO Batman, All Wii's.
- LEGO Star Wars, US/Europe Wii's ONLY.
- Lego Indiana Jones, US/Europe Wii's ONLY.

sorry dude :wavesad:

I did try the Smash Bros in a cheeky test, didn't work. Nevermind, thanks guys

Skyward Sword and Blazing Angels dont work on "Wii Flow" for me (havent tested any other loaders but WiiFlow is the most promising). I am not surprised about SS but Blazing angels is pretty old. what IOS do I need for that?
