A potentially sensitive subject.

Just got the channel for the Wii and also a back up channel for....well back ups.

Anyone else got the Homebrew channel? What do you use it for?

I have every NES game, a lot of Super Nintendo games, every Atari 2600 game, a few Genesis games and N64/PSX/Colecovision/a bunch of other emulators on it that either don't work yet or I have no roms for. It is amazing. Pretty much the primary reason I even use my Wii. Played through all of Earthbound using just the Wii Remote and now I'm doing A Link to the Past on it. There is supposed to be a way to play DVDs but I haven't figured out how to work that yet. And a lot of cool things to download from Homebrew Browser.

Yeah, I read that there's a way to make it a dvd player

There's apps where you can use your wii mote as spirit level, why you would ever want that is beyond me. But still pretty cool

Wii Strobe is the best possible use of the wii

Never even heard of this. Should probably use my Wii for more than just Guitar Hero and Smash Bros every 4 months prolly.

I only use the Homebrew to play backups.

You can play PSX games on Wii? Pray tell.

All I have is a port of VisualBoyAdvance that I play Fire Pro Wrestling 2 on and Gecko OS to play my NTSC copy of Brawl.

It's some emulator called WiiSX that probably shouldn't have even been released yet cause it doesn't work. They just updated it like two weeks ago but I don't think it even has an interface yet and my Wii froze when I tried to use it. But you can download ISOs to a folder and it's should be able to play them.

Also how do you do backups

Vietnamese Crippler
07-11-2009, 02:52 PM
I use a soft-mod called Softmii.

Download the install programs, put them on an SD card, put it in your Wii, and follow the instructions.

Dave Youell

I got some shit that actually gives me a channel for back ups so I don't have to run stuff through an sd card.

Vietnamese Crippler
07-11-2009, 09:26 PM
The SD card is just for installing the necessary hacks.

Once it's installed, you don't need the SD card anymore. I can put in any backup and select it from the disc channel.

That simple? I don't need to order anything else? Fuck, I should do this. How are Wii updates with this?

Vietnamese Crippler
07-11-2009, 09:45 PM
It is that simple, but you can't update the Wii immediately until there's an OK from the soft mod developers because update might mess up the hack. But I haven't found a need to update my 3.2 firmware because I don't use WiiWare/VC/Wii Store anyway.

You can find the instructions and judge for yourself whether it's easy or not. Just search for "softmii" on Demonoid or wherever.

Dave Youell
07-13-2009, 02:13 PM
Ok I know how to, on any version, as this thing I got downgrades it

It took me ages, but I've got by far the simplest solution on how to make it work, but there's no way I'm putting it on here on the forum direct. As it's potentially bad for me legally

PM me if you want details, if your a new poster that has less than 1000 posts, forget about it, your not getting it.

My Wii is "modded" now, thanks to Dave Youell. Now I play the waiting game for the shits to download. :(

G

I don't know what to do. I burned Resort and tried to load it. It came up with the 002 error, which I researched and they said use the GeckoOS with 002 fix. I don't know how that works. I cleaned my sd card, and put the Gecko wad in a folder named wad, and just have the wad manager 1.4 .dol by itself in the root of the sd card. What am I doing wrong?

G
07-13-2009, 07:04 PM
Okay Punch Out works fine. YouTubed like 423152 videos about 002 and finally found one with files and shit I could download. Used that, and have been fine. Resort is probably a bad iso or something. Gonna download a different copy.

G
07-13-2009, 09:47 PM
Hey, I have a question. Can I go online with this stuff installed? I unplugged the ethernet cable to be safe. Can I still go online with my real games like Mario Kart? If not, I'm probably gonna sell all my games if I can get the burnt ones to work and replace them.

G

And if people who I don't really know are too lazy to google something, do they really deserve help? I mean at least show that you put some effort in, the PMs I got were people saying "i have no idea about anything, can you do it all for me?"

In fairness, it took me 5 evening of searching to find a softmod that worked with 4.0E I tried at least 5 different ways of modding things, messing about with IOS versions and fuck knows what else.

I've got a step by step plan that cane be done in 10 minutes now, and that was built by scratch

Because you have to take a different approach with each version of the firmware, it's a bit harsh going nuts at everyone.

I do agree that people coming back at you for bricking it isn't cool though, I knew the risk when I was doing this.

I am finding some games don't work though, which is annoying

Dave Youell

I'm hoping it's just a burning issue, but the following flat out won't play and come up with a 0002 failure:

Punch Out
The Conduit
Madworld
Boom Blox Bash Party

--

I have been overworking my PC trying to produce all of these, so I'm hoping that it's just because there was something up with the burning

--

Oh also I know there is a known issue on Sam And Max Season 1. It won't play any of the episode's at all and just resets the machine, appears to happen with all versions.

G
07-20-2009, 10:41 AM
The way I used to avoid the 002 error, was by launching the game from a channel with the 002 fix built in. But now, I just fix the error on the ISO itself, before burning. I can run the games just fine now on the Back Up channel.

This video shows how to fix the 002 and has links to the software you need.

Right. One program (Wii Scrubber) will let you dissect the ISO to extract the main.dol (where the 002 is), and the second program (Generic Wii Patcher) will open that main.dol and look for and fix the 002 error. You then go back into Wii Scrubber (which you should still have open) and replace that infected main.dol with the new and improved 002 free main.dol. May sound complicated, but it's cake work really.

I make sure to check every ISO I download now, so I don't have to worry about which channel to play it from.

You explained that quite well mate.

Seems simple enough

One app is designed to breakdown the file where I find the dol

The other app fixes the dol

I just replace the Dol using the first app

Does that app then remake the ISO or do I have to burn it in a different way?

Not really, you just save it and go. Takes like less than a second to save. You then burn it using that original ISO (it doesn't make a new one).

Doing so will brick your Wii. If you play different region games, I'd recommend using brickblocker on the ISO before burning, which will remove those updates and eliminate the chance of it happening. I only download and play NTSC games, so I don't have to worry with it.

By brick, I assume you mean totally fuck it?

Mines not currently connected to the web and I have no aspirations to, does that mean I'm amune to this happening then? Unless a disc has a software update on it (like Mario kart Wii and Zelda?) Then I need to avoid like the plague.

Do any of these new games with the motion plus need updates? I'm just safer sticking to Pal versions aint I?

So if a Wii were to brick, how would one fix that? Is it possible to?

Yep, by brick I mean it turns into a bright white expensive paperweight. I think there might be a way to unbrick it, but that's something I know zero about. (and don't really wanna go down that road)

The only thing I know of involving new games and updates, is that Resort has a problem that if you play a VC/WiiWare game off a SD card, then go to play Resort, it'll make you watch the 3 minute Motion+ video again. 4.1 fixes that problem. I don't play anything off a SD card, so I'm not worrying with the update. I just hope the update isn't on the disc and requires it to play. (I'm actually buying it).

As far as sticking with PAL, I would do it, but only because I/we are pretty novice with this kind of stuff and don't wanna fuck anything up.

Agreed

I think I might actually have already used some NTSC games un-wittingly, I'll just stick with the Pal ones. I'll stick with what I know and avoid what I don't know.

I'm sure Nintendo are thinking about ways to stop this happening. I would imagine alot of new games will require new firmware for things to work. I don't really have an interest in Sports Resort, but I'll be interested to see how it works out. I don't use my SD card for anything about saving stuff, as I don't need it for the back up loader and that's mainly what I use it for,

Thanks for the help today, been enlightening, hopefully this will help anyone else who want to do it and has quesitons

Success!! (kinda)

Successfully installed the CoverFloader stuff and got my HDD set up. Had to do some things that took awhile for me to figure out how to do, which wasn't on the how to. I think I need a new HDD, because it took 2 hours to copy over 1 game. SO, here is where the kinda part comes in. CoverFloader will boot up just fine, it'll even show me the game I have installed. However, maybe it's the game itself (Cruis'n), I will get into the main menu and hit circuit, and it'll freeze.

I'm trying to test out installing a game to the HDD (it only works with real games), but so far since typing this post, it hasn't moved from 0%. Maybe it froze again. I'm gonna reboot and start over.

G
07-20-2009, 02:28 PM
Reset it and tried again. So far so good. Wii Sports seems to be installing fine right now. Will post the results.

-fuck it i don't know what to do

It supposedly installed correctly, yet it doesn't show in the game list and the light in my HDD goes out. I have to restart the Wii, and the game is gone. I even tried again using Wii Play and the same shit happened. Only the one game I transferred from the computer (Cruis'n) is there. I don't know what to do. I'm currently burning a copy of Cruis'n to see if it replicates the freezing. I think I'm done messing with this. I'm lucky enough as it is being able to download and play games for free. No need to fuck anything up by adding extras I don't really need. Besides, I like having physical copies of the shit because then I can look on the shelf and know what I have and want to play.

If anyone wants to know how to set up everything, send me a PM or something and give me time to write it out. Maybe you'll have better luck. Afterall, it could just be my shitty ass Black Friday budget USB drive from 4 years ago.

G

I dunno.

I messed with it again, using a different game. This time, I used Super Paper Mario. Seems to work perfectly. Weird thing is that it took like 1/4 the time to transfer to the USB drive than that other game did. It's like it chooses when it wants to use USB 2.0 or 1.1.Played the disc of Cruis'n, although it doesn't freeze, it's a horrible horrible game. Very choppy and shit. Could be a bad rip. Who knows.

I guess I cannot transfer any retail games over, since it still fucks up, but I'm going to transfer the ISO's that I haven't deleted yet onto it. Probably take overnight to do.

Yeah, I'm just going to give up though. It took overnight just to transfer 2 games over. I need a new hard drive.

G

Oh yeah, another thing I forgot to mention. I've ran across another problem with 2 games so far (MK Armageddon & Red Steel). You need to patch the ISO to IOS249 before burning, using this. (http://wiinewz.com/forums/nintendo-news/67304-ios-version-patcher-1-0-a.html)

AWESOME thread and I  Dave Youell.

A couple minor questions!

Okay so I got my Wii all Homebrew'd up, thanks to the file Dave sent me. First things, can I not delete the files off my SD card? I backed up all my GH songs and ish, so wondering if I need to put them on a separate SD or if I can just plop them back on that one.

Secondly, in the readme file it said "Now you're ready to get the latest CIOS (v10) " or something, do I need to do that or is what I have fine?

And, most stupidly, I guess now that it's done, is there any other steps I need to take before I can start just playing burned ish on it?

Also, probably more of a personal preference: Do you find it's better to grab an external HD to run stuff on, or do you find that simply using DVDs is sufficient? As of right right now I have no idea how many games I intend on illegally playing at my leisure, so I don't know.
crossrine

G
07-24-2009, 01:23 PM
cIOS rev10 is only needed if you intend to play off a usb drive. If you're sticking to discs, it shouldn't be a problem staying with what Dave gave you (rev 7).

G
07-24-2009, 01:26 PM
And just research the game before burning it, to avoid making errors and building a pile of coasters.

G
07-24-2009, 01:26 PM
No, you're ready to burn and start playing.

Sweet, thanks. Also, doing a bit of reading, I guess using PAL versions of games is bad news bigtime? So I should just stick to NTSC or whatever? And even still, if I use NTSC is there a chance of bricking my console?

I think I'm gonna lean towards getting an external hard drive, in which case I should probably update to rev10 then I guess. I don't know. So much to take in all at once!

If you do use PAL, you just gotta take precautions. There are tons and tons of NTSC ISO's laying around, so you shouldn't have any problems finding a game within our region. NTSC is the safest route to take.

I'll link you to where I got the rev10 from. BRB

OKAY

After confusing myself, I figured out what I actually did.

1. I didn't use the wad from that link I sent. I either couldn't get it to work, or I found it after I already upgraded.

2. I downloaded a .dol file from here. (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zdztqgmtnyn)

3. I renamed that rev10 installer to boot.dol, and put it into a folder named cIOS rev10 installer, which was put into the apps folder. SD > apps > cIOS rev10 installer > boot.dol file.

4. Went into the Homebrew, select the cIOS rev10 installer folder, then the boot.dol file.

5. Select Network Installation

Never heard of premium utorrent either. Torrents depend on 3 things, really:

1. Your connection speed. The faster your internet the better. Obvious, really.

2. The number of seeders versus leechers and their upload speeds. The more seeders with faster upload speeds the better. Again, obvious agian.

3. Your upload speed versus your download speed. If your upload settings are completely open, it can actually slow down your download speed. You should cap your upload speed to 3/4 of your actual upload speed.

WOOOOOOOO

Got the World Tour DLC working. There is one problem, however. You need the retail disc in order to delete the songs off the Wii. Not the SD card, but the Wii memory. Something about the loaders not knowing how to do it. BUT, since there is only ONE song that I wanted (which is the one I paid for on the 360), I will not be needing to delete it and it can stay on my Wii FOREVER. I have burned World Tour, Metallica and Smash Hits. I just need to buy a World Tour guitar now, which is only $34 shipped (new) on eBay. After looking at compatibility charts, I find that the World Tour guitar is the best option.

NOW, I look into RB's DLC.

I don't know if any of you guys can answer but I saw the thread and it reminded me..
I am currently in Central America doing a summer study course. There is burned games everywhere here. Does anyone know if they work on the Wii without any type of modifications? I always ask the people but they say no modifications no matter what since they want money.

You'll have to read through the thread.

Your post count isn't high enough for me to warrant you sending the download information.

You will have to make modifacations to the software of your wii console, but not the hardware

G

nah I was going to get everything ready before buying that

You'll need to use the alt dol method for that game. I don't know the specifics, that's all I remember reading.

The game worked fine for me without loading into Wii Patcher. (had the same problem)

Same goes for World Tour and Metallica.

Of course you need mods done. They are trying to rip you off.

K, our Wii is hard modded with a chip and we've been enjoying our shit so far. My question is this: can you burn a gamcube game to a regular dvd-r and play it?

The 00002 Error

But i can't load it in the patcher

G

That's odd. I'm able to load it just fine in the back up channel. Try loading it through a loader with the 002 fix.

G,

Was about to test out a wii sports resort copy.

Does it do an update? Anything I should be aware of?

G

It'll force you to update if you don't block it.

Dave Youell

I updated first using Waninkoko's 4.1 updater, then did the update off the disc. Everything seems fine.

Is that the 4.1 updater I gave you, or something else?

G

You gave me the 4.0, 4.1 just came out a few weeks ago.

So basically the update on the disc puts you onto 4.1 and this is the new thingy that sorts it, at work right now. Will sort all that out tonight

I'm reading through this and it says that it updates via homebrew.

Will I always need my SD card in there from now on for this to work? Or does it just do something and that's it?

No, it just loads the installation files from the SD.

I don't know the specifics, but you need to use a loader that'll switch the .dol or something.

Yeah, this is a royal pain in the ass, aparently using gamma v6 will sort it. I'm only using 0.3.

I've got a wad version, but i'd rather have it as a channel as I use my sd card for other things so don't want to rely on it.

Any ideas people?

I don't know what your Tiger Woods problem is. I think I burned that before I learned how to fix the 002 on the computer, so I probably used a loader with the 002 fix.

Dave Youell
08-15-2009, 02:44 PM
Ok, fixed it.

I was running of Gamma 0.3. Now on Neogamma v6, which has an 002 anti fix with it.

Have also found a way to make this app and all other wads a channel using the wad manager, which is nice

No, I don't mess with USB loaders anymore. Next time I turn my Wii on I will post the two channels I have with 002 fixes. I do know that one of them plays rap music when you click on the channel.

Savio

Yeah I've tried using that .dol off the sd card, but it's not reading it, I put it on the root of the card, but it's saying there's an error reading it off neogamma.

Nintendo has been so kind as to release system menu 4.2 for the Wii. This update will delete The Homebrew Channel, all cIOS files and remove bootmii from your system. It appears that all IOS files have been updated and a few new ones installed. Effectively, it will remove and all homebrew and iso loading capabilities from your console so for now we recommend not upgrading!

Not much else is known about the update, but it doesn't appear to add any new functionality. For now feel free to discuss the new update in our thread linked to below:

chillax fellas, there will be a fix eventually. unfortunately, the main guy making all the fixes has left the scene. apparently, you need to update in order to access the shop channel. however, if you're modded, you don't need to go on there and buy anything anyways.

Quick update:

I haven't been paying too much attention to upgrades and stuff, since I haven't been playing the Wii. Today I had to upgrade to cIOS rev 14 because of the (new to me, probably old to some) new 002 protection. Tried to play Wii Fit Plus and got 002 error on every loader I have. So I upgraded to cIOS rev 14, installed Neogamma R7 and it works fine. Still haven't done the 4.2 upgrade. Probably won't until something forces me to.
