YESSIR! Love me some Sergio Martinez. If dude was American, spoke better English or promoted by a Don King/Dana White type instead of an old ass bastard like Bob Arum he would be just as big a star as Pacquiao. He's legit in the ring and a good guy out of it.

Imagine if Vince McMahon went into MMA instead of creating the XFL.

It would have been too corny and maybe overly produced. Especially with the inevitable storyline tie-ins that would come. J.R., since I know he's expressed interest in commentating MMA, would be obnoxious.

I think the UFC could borrow a few things from wrestling from a production value sense (e.g., a Zuffatron would be sick and maybe entrance videos tailored for each fighter on the main card), but I don't think Vince would connect with MMA fans as a promoter the same way Dana does.

UFC should do those face to face interviews like boxing with Kellerman. Have Rogan do it with big main events.

That would be sick as long as they limited it to big main events like you said. Can you imagine Silva and Sonnen face to face with just Joe Rogan (and probably Ed Soares) prior to their fight? The tension would be amazing.

Zuffa should definitely steal a little bit of HBO Boxing's promotional/presentation style.

Mir Out for Fight Against Cormier

TORONTO -- Former two-time UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir suffered an injury that has forced him to pull out of a Nov. 3 bout against Daniel Cormier, a source confirmed to ESPN.com.

The nature of Mir's injury has not yet been revealed.

MMAJunkie.com reported the news earlier Wednesday.

Mir and Cormier were scheduled to meet on a Strikeforce-promoted card in Oklahoma City. It was to be Strikeforce's final heavyweight fight.

Strikeforce has not yet determined whether another opponent will be selected to face Cormier, who was slated to compete in UFC after facing Mir.

Mir was expected to become the first fighter on UFC's roster to compete in a Strikeforce event. UFC and Strikeforce are owned by Zuffa LLC.

During his most recent fight -- on May 26 -- Mir was knocked out in the second round by UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos.

Mir has a professional record of 16-6.

Cormier (10-0) won the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament on May 19 with a lopsided unanimous decision over former UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett.

Jon Jones and Sonnen are the coaches of TUF 17 and will fight April 17th according to LA Times

Dunno if Sonnen/Griffin is still goin ahead or what

Next Big Thing
10-16-2012, 06:30 PM
TUF ratings blow so I guess they're going to try to up it with Jones and Sonnen. Not really mad as I think both guys bring a refreshing dynamic as coaches and personalities. It's the actual TUF competitors that I don't give a shit about. The talent pool is so watered down at this point and I can only watch a bunch of dudes who will never amount to anything in the UFC live in a house, train and fight for so long.

The actual fight is kind of a joke though. Sonnen is going to get knocked the fuck out and I don't care about how good his takedowns are. Jones is too big, long and strong for Chael to dominate him like he did Silva in their first fight.

Next Big Thing
10-16-2012, 06:35 PM
I feel like the UFC has stretched itself to the point where it's gone from logical matchmaking and clear cut contenders to WWE style matchmaking and squash matches. Vitor gave it a good try, but had no business fighting Jones. Bonnar had no business fighting Silva. If Sonnen didn't have a mouth, no one would be happy seeing this fight based on Sonnen's record and style. Even his trash talk is pretty much the same old ish repeated.

Crimson
10-16-2012, 11:48 PM
All true but I don't see a problem with it right now. Sonnen and Jones are 2 of their top drawers in the company..people will pay for the fight..and the rating for TUF will increase . Really a win win.

Only letdown for me is the hype for a Bones/Silva matchup now taking a backseat. Come to think of it what if they would have done a Sonnen/Hendo coaching season and the winner would be #1 contender? That might've been good too

I thought Hendo and Sonnen were bezzies?

That's what's interesting and confusing now. Sonnen fights under the "Team Quest" banner, which Hendo started with Couture, but there are actually two incarnations of Team Quest. One is Hendo's, the other is Matt Lindland's. They even have two separate websites and rosters.

Chael fights under Matt Lindland's brand and Hendo is actually suing Lindland over the name and trademark because although Lindland joined them shortly after Couture and Hendo started the team and opened a gym with their blessing, he apparently trademarked the name without their knowledge or approval.

So was Jon Jones and Rashad Evans. 13 pounds of Gold can make the worst enemies out of the closest of teammates.

In hindsight, were they really that tight? Now Jones is pretty much saying the same ish about fighting Anderson that he said about fighting Rashad and they don't even train in the same city or live in the same country most of the time!

I can understand 38 year old Anderson Silva not wanting to fight a bigger, faster, stronger and younger version of himself (especially when he's only got two fights left on his current deal and could potentially slay one more Middleweight and GSP before retiring or sticking Dana up for more money), but Jones can't seriously call himself a business man and not want to take on the Greatest of All Time.

Imagine the paycheck and the publicity/hype that Nike would give to him if that fight were to take place in Texas Stadium. It would be one of the most profitable events in the history of all combat sports and probably end up second only to Pacquiao/Mayweather.

Source: Stephan Bonnar fails test
By Franklin McNeil
ESPN.com

Recently retired light heavyweight Stephan Bonnar and heavyweight Dave Herman failed their respective UFC 153 postfight drug tests, a source told ESPN.com on Friday.
The source said that Bonnar tested positive for drostanolone, an anabolic steroid. Herman tested positive for marijuana metabolites.
UFC 153 took place in Rio de Janeiro on Oct. 13.
The failed postfight drug test was Bonnar's second. He tested positive for boldenone after a unanimous decision loss to Forrest Griffin at UFC 62 in August 2006.
Griffin defeated Bonnar by unanimous decision in April 2005, during "The Ultimate Fighter" Season 1 finale. That fight is often credited with being most responsible for attracting casual fight fans to mixed martial arts.
Marc Ratner, the UFC vice president of regulatory affairs, confirmed to ESPN.com that two fighters did fail their 153 postfight drug tests. But he would not say whether Bonnar and Herman were those fighters.
"When we go to these different countries, in order to grow the sport, without athletic commissions supervising, we self-regulate," Ratner said. "That's because of the experience we have in our company with regulators.
"There were 12 fights (at UFC 153) and we tested all 24 fighters for performance-enhancing drugs as well as recreational street drugs. Twenty-two fighters tested negative and two fighters tested positive."
Bonnar suffered a first-round TKO to middleweight champion Anderson Silva in the main event. They competed at light heavyweight.
A little more than two weeks after the loss, Bonnar, 35, announced his retirement from mixed martial arts. He finished his career with a record of 15-8.
Herman was submitted via armbar in the second round by Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. It was the first time in his professional career that Herman (21-5) had been submitted.
The setback to Nogueira, a former UFC interim heavyweight titleholder, was Herman's third in a row.

It isn’t often that the booking of an undercard fight can cause controversy, but Bellator recently found itself in hot water when they booked Dan McGuane on the undercard of this week’s Bellator 81. Bellator booked a fight between McGuane and 3-0 Light-Heavyweight Mike Mucitelli, ignoring the fact that Dan McGuane was convicted of manslaughter in 2005. No big deal, it was just self-defense, right? Unfortunately, no. Not even close.

Recently, a website BanDanMcGuane.com popped up after the webmaster had learned that Bellator had signed the fighter. According to reports, McGuane and his twin brother beat an eighteen year old, one hundred and fifty-five pound man named Kelly Proctor to death after Dan’s brother thought he heard Kelly say something. I wish I were exaggerating, but I’m not. After the jump, the grisly details, courtesy of the website (they’ve since been removed):

At the time of the incident that led to his death, the victim was five feet, eight inches tall and weighed approximately 155 pounds. Each defendant was approximately six feet, four inches tall and weighed nearly 200 pounds.

On the evening of Saturday, July 2, 2005, the victim and his girlfriend, Jayme Rotondi, watched part of the town of Ayer’s annual Independence Day fireworks at Pirone Park, but left early to avoid the crowds at the end of the display. As they left the park, the victim and Rotondi passed a group of at least six people walking toward the park. The group consisted of the defendants, Greg Shultz, an exchange student from Denmark, who was approximately the same size as the defendants, Brandi Livingston, Mary Papalucas and Sara Jones. Rotondi noticed one of the defendants staring at her; she smiled, then heard someone laugh. The victim stopped and asked Rotondi, “What are they laughing at?” Peter left the group and walked back toward the victim and asked, “Did you say something? Do you want me to beat your ass in front of your girl?” Papalucas positioned herself between Peter and the victim and said to Peter, “Don’t do this, let’s go.” At that point, Peter reached over Papalucas’s head and, with an open hand, slapped the victim across the face, knocking from his mouth a straw on which he had been chewing. After Peter slapped the victim, Daniel joined in the attack. Both defendants punched the victim several times. The victim began crawling, trying to escape the assault.

The fight gradually moved from the street to the curb, then onto the sidewalk, where the defendants forced the victim back up against a sport utility vehicle (SUV). Rotondi, in an attempt to break up the fight, jumped onto Daniel’s back and scratched him, tearing his blue polo shirt. She was pulled off Daniel by Papalucas, who also tried unsuccessfully to break up the fight. One of the defendants shoved Papalucas and Rotondi aside, then Daniel kicked the victim in the chest. The victim fell to the ground and ended up under the SUV. The defendants walked away, leaving the victim under the SUV. As he left the scene, Peter said, “What do you have to say now?”

The victim remained under the SUV, lying on his chest, with blood coming from his nose. His breathing was labored. Papalucas told the victim it was okay to come out from under the SUV, but he was not responsive. She and some of the defendants’ friends, who remained at the scene, pulled the victim from under the SUV. The victim was unconscious and his eyes were open but rolled back in his head.

Long story short, Dan and his equally deplorable brother beat a younger, smaller Kelly Proctor to death because they heard him ask his girlfriend a question. I’d compare them to the lunkhead pieces of shit who wear Affliction, but I have – and I can’t believe I’m typing this – more respect for those people than I do for the McGuanes.

Before we go any further, I understand that everyone has a right to make a living. At the same token, not everyone has a right to make a living as a professional fighter. There are plenty of other ways to make a living besides fighting.

It’s bad enough that certain politicians still compare our sport to cock-fighting and dog-fighting; we don’t need to give those comparisons legitimacy by glorifying a despicable human being like Dan McGuane. Beating a younger, smaller person to death with your twin brother isn’t “brave” or “athletic,” it’s something that only a completely sick, deranged individual would do.

If someone is unable to separate the person in the cage from the person outside of it, they simply aren’t mentally stable enough to deserve the right to represent out sport. If you disagree, that’s fine, as long as you don’t complain about the mainstream media representing MMA fighters as douchebag high school dropouts who are too stupid to work at Burger King. At least be consistent with your beliefs.

For the record, I also wouldn’t want current Bellator fighters Brett Rogers and War Machine representing my brand due to their – ahem – “character issues.” Unlike McGuane, though, not only did those two never kill anybody, but they’re also both names that hardcore fans are familiar with who have demonstrated that they have at least some talent. I’m not saying I agree with either man being on Bellator’s payroll, but at least I understand why they were signed. There were literally never any such advantages to signing Dan McGuane.

Within hours of BloodyElbow running with the story yesterday, Bellator tweeted that Dan McGuane had been removed from their card and that they would begin looking for a replacement fight. We applaud Bellator for doing the right thing and cutting their ties with Dan McGuane.

Mitrione was also scheduled to fight Phil de Fries on the 29th so hopefully that shatters this illusion that the UFC can't/won't re-book guys when it suits them. I like Matt Mitrione a lot though. I just don't think he has what it takes to challenge Nelson yet.

Dana White disappointed by Bonnar
By Franklin McNeil
ESPN.com

Stephan Bonnar not only failed his UFC 153 postfight drug test, he failed promotion president Dana White.
White has opted not to speak with the recently retired light heavyweight since the test results were revealed.

Bonnar, 35, tested positive for Drostanolone, an anabolic steroid, after suffering a first-round TKO loss Oct. 13 to middleweight champion Anderson Silva in Rio de Janeiro.
A little more than two weeks after the loss, Bonnar announced his retirement from mixed martial arts.

But vowing never to fight in the Octagon again did not soften the emotional blow Bonnar's failed test dealt to White.

"I've known Stephan for a long time and we've had a great relationship," White said Sunday morning after UFC 154 in Montreal. "That's the thing that disappoints me the most.

"I haven't even answered his phone calls. I haven't talked to him since. I don't hate him, but I just don't want to talk to him."

Bonnar was a late replacement at UFC 153. He was asked to fight Silva in a light heavyweight contest after an injury forced featherweight champ Jose Aldo to withdraw from his bout against former lightweight titleholder Frankie Edgar.

"The thing that bothers me most about the Stephan Bonnar thing is that he didn't tell me," White said. "He wasn't planning on fighting. He said that he was practicing to do some pro wrestling."

Bonnar was suspended by UFC for one year. The suspension prevents Bonnar from coming out of retirement, according to UFC vice president of regulatory affairs Marc Ratner.

Bonnar has not spoken publicly about the positive postfight drug test.

It's the second time in his professional mixed martial arts career that Bonnar has failed a postfight drug test.

He tested positive for Boldenone after a unanimous-decision loss in August 2006 to Forrest Griffin at UFC 62.

Bonnar finished his pro career with a record of 15-8.

Former WEC announcer Joe Martinez tapped for octagon debut at UFC on FX 6

Former WEC announcer Joe Martinez will soon make his octagon debut.

Martinez recently revealed to Examiner.com that he has been hired for in-cage duties at next month's UFC on FX 6 event, which takes place on Saturday, Dec. 15 in Australia but due to the time difference airs live in the U.S. on Friday night....

Dana interview for MMA Fighting -

- Nick Diaz is next in line to fight GSP, also Hendricks will be forced to fight in the interim because "he's in no position to demand anything". GSP asked for the fight....

- Rousey is officially the UFC Womens 135lbs champ and will debut as main event of UFC 157 against Liz Carmouche, Cyborg will get the winner.

- Shogun vs Gustaffson is sketched in as #1 contender bout, but "anything can happen in the UFC"

Marines ends sponsorship with UFC
December 18, 2012
The U.S. Marines announced that it will not extend its sponsorship of the UFC via ESPN’s Josh Gross (and Stripes.com). The sponsorship with the UFC ended November 30th and the budget for its sponsorship have been assigned elsewhere according to Major John Caldwell, a spokesman for Marine Corps Recruiting Command.
According to Maj. Caldwell via Stripes.com:
“Due to evolving mission requirements, budgetary constraints, marketing analysis and the recommendation of our contracted advertising agency, resources previously allocated to the endeavor have been applied to alternate priorities,” he said.
The decision to cease the business relationship has to do in part with a push by member of Congress to end all sports sponsorships. Earlier this year, the U.S. Army pulled its NASCAR sponsorship. Also, the article infers that the Culinary Union Local 206 may have influenced the decision to pull its support from the UFC.
Via Stripes.com:
“The Marine Corps continues to stress strong personal values in markets that are viewed by young men and women who are interested in military service,” Caldwell said.
The veterans committee of UNITE HERE, a union that represents 250,000 hotel, food service, restaurant, textile, industrial laundry and gaming industry workers, said values were the heart of their argument against the partnership between the Marine Corps and UFC.
Payout Perspective:
The termination of the U.S. Marines sponsorship is a blow to the UFC as its signage and brand was a mainstay during UFC events including the sponsored “Tale of the Tape” and “prep point,” the mat where fighters were greased, during PPVs. It may be that the Marines were not receiving enough of a return on its investment in its sponsorship despite the fact that the UFC’s demo of young adult males is the audience the Marines would likely want. The union influence, if true, is another thorn in the side for the UFC. The UFC must now seek another prime sponsor to replace the hole that the Marines have left.

Well now this is interesting...

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White talked to media members this week (via MMA Fighting) about the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17 and surprisingly, his focus wasn't on his celebrity coaching staff.

Instead, it was on a fighter who has the rest of the cast running scared.

"We have a guy on this season of The Ultimate Fighter, every fight he's in, someone goes to the hospital. The whole house is terrified of this guy. F-- terrified. Everybody. I picked this fight, and this guy is lined up with the guy I'm telling you about, and the guy has a nervous breakdown in the house over the weekend. Has a f-- nervous breakdown. Freaks out and has a nervous breakdown. This guy scared the living s--- out of everyone. It's awesome."

Awesome indeed.

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones will coach a team of up-and-coming fighters against recently-promoted title contender (and former middleweight) Chael Sonnen. TUF 17 will make its season premier on Tues., Jan. 22, 2013 at 9 p.m. ET on the FX Channel.

Has the promotion discovered the next big thing?

Stay tuned.

UFC lightweight champion, Benson "Smooth" Henderson, was one of the WEC's top lightweights before getting placed into the UFC. He proved the WEC doubters wrong, as he became the UFC lightweight champion and has since defended it twice. With that, he has now signed an eight fight deal with the UFC, likely for a pretty good amount of money.

Ariel Helwani had a great idea for the Fox 7 (which coincidentally takes place where Strikeforce did most of its shows):

UFC vs. Strikeforce:

Melendez vs. Henderson
Cormier vs. Mir
Mousasi vs. Gustafson
Rockhold vs. Philipou

Not a bad card at all and a good test for each fighter on the card. I could realistically see the Strikeforce guys winning 3 out of 4 of those matchups.

Vocal front of MMA, Chael Sonnen has been in the headlines for several years for his choice of words for his opponents and also his legal troubles. Now, courtesy of the Jim Rome Show, Sonnen went on the offensive in describing a run-in he had with disgraced former Tour de France champion, Lance Armstrong.

Armstrong recently admitted to taking performance enhancing supplements during his career. Sonnen was suspended from MMA after he tested positive for raised level of testosterone. While Armstrong’s case represents a much bigger scale, Sonnen was still put into the spotlight of eliminating PED’s from the sport of MMA. Either way, the two athletes don’t quite see eye to eye:

“Why are they calling him a bully? That’s what I can’t wrap my mind brain around. Lance is a dweeb, the only thing he’s missing is the tape on the glasses and the high water pants. That guy couldn’t get respect at the local Honky Tonk in my hometown. He threatened to sue me so I threatened to kick his ass and the whole thing went away.”

“Look, I get it and I’m kidding but Lance did do some bad stuff and he was a jerk about it. Yeah, he hit me up with the whole ‘I’m gonna sue you’ routine and I hit him back with the whole ‘I’ll kick your ass’ routine. That’s it, that’s where it ended. I thought he was going to go through with the lawsuit but he did not.”

Whether you like Chael Sonnen or not, his statements will not cease so why not enjoy them and indulge in some of the most creative trash talking around.

Thanks to CagePotato.com for lifting the quote.

Randy Couture has signed a multi-year agreement with Spike TV and will serve as a coach for the first season of Bellator’s forthcoming reality show on the Viacom-owned cable network.

Sherdog.com confirmed the news with sources close to the deal on Tuesday morning following an initial report from SI.com. Spike is expected to formally announced the signing during a Feb. 5 press conference.

The extent of Couture’s participation in Spike programming is not yet known, but he is expected to appear on the network outside his obligations to Bellator’s reality show. This will not be the first MMA reality television show in which Couture has participated, as the decorated two-division UFC champion previously coached opposite Chuck Liddell in the inaugural “Ultimate Fighter” on Spike in 2005.

The debut date for Bellator’s new series has not been announced, but it will likely feature lightweight and welterweight fighters, presumably competing in a tournament-style competition. Promotion officials previously announced that the show will be produced by “Amazing Race” co-creator Bertram Van Munster. Bellator recently moved its weekly live event programming to Spike from sister network MTV2 and averaged 938,000 viewers in its Jan. 17 Spike debut.

A UFC Hall of Famer, Couture, 49, has occasionally served as a broadcaster during Ultimate Fighting Championship cards on the Fox network since his 2011 retirement. The five-time UFC champion saw a three-fight winning streak snapped in his final in-cage appearance, as “The Natural” was knocked out by Lyoto Machida at UFC 129. Couture had previously retired following a 2006 rubber-match defeat to Liddell but returned to the heavyweight division a year later to best reigning champion Tim Sylvia. In addition to his fighting career, Couture has also made several appearances on the silver screen, notably appearing in “The Expendables” and its 2012 sequel.

Dana's probably not too happy about that one. Good move for Bellator though. Really brings some legitimacy to the brand.

This is my new friend Enrico, a 13-year-old who flew to Vegas from Sao Paulo with his dad because Jose Aldo is his favorite fighter. I've seen him a handful of times over the past couple days waiting for hours to meet Aldo in the hotel and get his autograph on that glove he's holding. I finally bumped into Aldo's manager an hour ago and asked if he could help him out. Amazingly, he just called Enrico's dad right then and there and set up a time for them to go to Aldo's room tomorrow before the fight. Incredible.

His love and dedication for his favorite fighter reminded me of when I used to wait for hours to catch a glimpse of my favorite athletes. And I kinda thought, as I seem to do with everything these days, what if that's my son in 13 years just dying for a chance to meet his hero? I sorta wish I could be there when he meets his hero. This is why I love sports, and in particular, this one. If you're in Vegas for 156, there's a good chance you'll see Enrico today or tomorrow. Say hello and quiz him on UFC trivia. He's encyclopedia of knowledge. Pretty amazing.

Thanks in advance, Jose. http://twitpic.com/c0761q

MMA referee and judge Rob Hinds has worked fights in the UFC, Bellator and many other organizations. He also owns Combat Consulting, a company that trains and educates referees and judges.
In this article, Hinds comments on the practice of “playing the game”, where a fighter, usually up against the cage, will post a hand to make himself grounded, thereby eliminating his opponent from throwing knees or kicks to the head.
by Rob Hinds
An interesting phenomenon has piqued debate, along with the interest and emotions of the MMA community!
Fighters have been criticized and referees looked at closely in their assessments of what has been called “playing the game”. The term (game) is in reference to a fighter using a rule to their advantage.
In the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts, there are two types of strikes that are allowed when both professional competitors are standing; but not allowed when one or both fighters are “grounded”. Kicks and/or knees to the head of a grounded opponent are not allowed at any time, in any position (within the Unified Rules). Please note that there are many International organizations that allow these techniques to be legal under a different set of rules.
Many have asked and continue to clarify…’What is the definition of a grounded fighter?’
By definition and explanation: A grounded fighter is when anything but the soles of their feet is touching the floor of the fighting area. To clarify further, if a fighter has a foot in the air and one of their hands on the floor, they are still considered grounded.
Do not confuse or compare this current definition with the old one (three points of contact).
This is where “playing the game” comes into strategy. Whether it’s a knee, back side, hand or even finger on the floor, leg striking to the head of the grounded opponent is illegal.
The rule comes into play in several situations. Fighters have become very aware of the rule, and are extremely savvy in using it to their advantage. Much to the dismay of the media and fans!
Whether you’re an avid or casual fan of the sport, it is now commonplace to see a fighter pinned up against the cage and put their hand down on the floor to avoid leg attacks to the head. Taking it a step further, they will also raise and lower their hand on and off the mat, trying to bait their opponent into causing a foul, which may be enforced by point deductions or disqualification.
Many referees are wise to this phenomenon and are being pro-active in their approach to dealing with the situation before it happens. Detailed rules meetings and discussions with the fighters before their bouts help clarify the rule and make a clear case of what is expected of them. Many referees tell the fighters that if they play the game, they are taking a risk (at the mercy of the referee’s call) and gambling on getting what they want out of the strategy. Many people may (and do) look at this gamesmanship in a negative way.
Keep this in mind. The rules were created to set parameters. Coaches and athletes in all sports will ALWAYS push the limits of those parameters to gain any edge or advantage over their rivals. That being said, “playing the game” is allowed. Like it or not…

I think taking a knee to prevent a kick or knee to the head is fine. One could also argue that this position could be used to set up an offensive advantage by way of countering for a takedown of their own. But a hand down with their feet flat on the mat should NOT be considered grounded. I can't see a way this can be used for an offensive advantage.

UFC welterweight Matt Riddle exploded with an anti-establishment rant on TRT and marijuana during his appearance on MMAmania's Verbal Submission podcast this past Wednesday night. Find out why he's passionate below.

FACEBOOK

TWITTER
UFC welterweight Matt Riddle has a right to be upset about the current state of drug enforcement used by the athletic commissions these days.

Just one event after Chael Sonnen was allowed to compete against Anderson Silva in the biggest pay-per-view (PPV) of 2012 while using testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) to boost his levels of testosterone in training, Riddle scored his first finish in two years with a "Submission of the Night"-winning performance.

The problem? Riddle had smoked marijuana two weeks before and the metabolites were still in his system. When he tested positive for said metabolites, his victory over Clements was overturned and changed into a "No Contest."

When asked about the current state of testing and punishment by the commissions during his appearance this past Wednesday on The Verbal Submission (listen to the full rant here), "Deep Waters" unloaded on everything related to TRT, especially in light of the fact that Vitor Belfort was given a free pass to take it for his second round knockout over Michael Bisping this past month.

His rant:

"Funny thing about that is steroids aren't on the same level as marijuana. You can do steroids in the UFC now, didn't you hear? [TRT] is steroids and you can do steroids as long as you get a doctor's note now. So Vitor Belfort just pops for testosterone and everybody's like, 'Oh, he failed."'

No he didn't, he has a doctor's note so it's okay.

And honestly, I think it's ridiculous. The reason why they say I can't use marijuana is because it's a performance-enhancing drug. Okay, I understand that. It's a performance-enhancing drug to you. Whatever. But testosterone isn't? Steroids aren't? And if you're saying I can't smoke because you need to keep other fighters safe or myself safe because I'm too high, don't you think you should keep others safe by not letting people using steroids into the cage? That's how I look at it.

And that wasn't the only item with which Riddle took umbrage. Not one to hold his tongue, he went into detail on his use of marijuana, explaining how it has helped him in his every day life while railing against the testing protocol and how "the man" is trying to keep Mary Jane down.

The glory continues:

"And on top of all that, it wouldn't bother me if they tested for THC, because I would never fail for THC because I would literally have to be that high when they tested me or I'd have to be high the day before. Instead they just test you for metabolites which you just mentioned which can stay in your system for up to a month after you're done smoking.

Let's be honest. It's White America, it's the big man, it's the guy with the money, it's the pharmaceutical companies, it's the alcohol companies that don't want want marijuana legalized and they'll do anything. They'll ridicule it, they've already had slanderous campaigns about it.

I've been smoking weed since I was 13 and look at me. I'm in the UFC and I smash people with a smile on my face. It's not a performance enhancing drug. It makes me relax. It makes me happy. Honestly, it probably keeps me from beating my three kids because they're always screaming and crying at me and my wife's crazy and you know what life's like. It's hard sometimes and honestly, I like to go to my game room and rip a tube and just sit back and relax and enjoy a 20 minute show, go out, see my family, take care of everything I have to take care of, and that's what I do. A lot of people think it's okay to drink a fifth of jack and beat their wife. I don't."

Wow.

Riddle will be taking his talents to the Octagon next Saturday night (Feb. 16, 2013) when he battles Che Mills on the main card of UFC on Fuel TV 7, and he'll be doing it without the aid of TRT (or even THC).

"Deep Waters" has professed he'll focus on his strengths instead of simply trying to win a "Fight of the Night" in every one of his bouts, which is probably for the best if he wants a lengthy career in the promotion. That doesn't mean he won't be trying to equal his knockout of Dan Simmler from The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season seven, which he still believes is the most brutal finish in TUF history.

Fair or foul?
