it's the cotton companies Mr Riddle that has Marijauana on the banned substances list in america. Look that shit up. Cotton companies were getting squeezed by hemp producing textile plants. So in order to keep 'the touch, the feel of cotton' a commodity, they managed to pimp the government to make Hemp illegal.

SCIENCE.

Former Strikeforce bantamweight champion Miesha Tate (13-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will face Cat Zingano (7-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) in April at the The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. UFC officials on Monday announced the matchup

Guyborg Santos wants out of its UFC contract. I feel like this does the UFC a bigger favor than it does her. He is an unstoppable beast and if he were able to get down to 135 and beat Rousey, that would put a damper on the women's division since most of the women in 135 dropped from 145 so they wouldn't get tea bagged by him.

Kris P Lettus

I'm hearing she wants no part of a fight with Rousey and is refusing to drop down to 135.. It makes no sense for them to start a 145 division right now, which is what she wants.. I think she is ducking Ronda even if that is coming from Dana White..

I legitimately believe that she can't make 135 and was under the delusion that she would be enough of a draw for them to create a 145 pound division featuring her smashing a bunch of cans.

I don't think it's ducking Ronda either. In fact, I could see Santos beating Rousey via TKO because her stand up is vicious and Rousey's never really been hit. Plus, I believe Santos would have a strength advantage that Miesha Tate never really had.

The truth is that most of the talented female fighters are at 135 and 125. Coker fucked up because he created 145 to appease Carano, who hates cutting weight, and ended up stuck with Guyborg when Carano lost.

It's def true about Liz's GnP.. Also, true about Rousey never getting hit as hard as Liz is gonna hit her.. It's all about weather Ronda can catch an arm or not..

Why did Carano "retire" after that Cyborg loss?? I realize she started acting and whatnot, but that didn't really go anywhere.. Having her drop 10 and come in to fight Rousey could be huge, buy wise..

Demetrious Johnson-John Moraga title bout sweetens 'TUF' finale card
By ADAM HILL LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
Posted: 02/11/2013 12:57 PM

When the champion of the current season of "The Ultimate Fighter" is crowned in Las Vegas on April 13, the bout will not be the main attraction.

Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson will defend his title against John Moraga on the card, according to sources close to the organization. It will mark the first time a UFC belt is on the line on a "TUF" finale.

No venue has been announced for the event.

In addition, Miesha Tate will make her UFC debut against Cat Zingano. It's only the second female fight the UFC has announced and the first one that doesn't involve champion Ronda Rousey.

Also, heavyweights Gabriel Gonzaga and Travis Browne will meet.

Two featherweight fights are also set to be announced.

Bart Palaszewski will fight Cole Miller and Daniel Pineda will take on Justin Lawrence.

The remainder of the card is likely to be filled by contestants from this season of the reality show, which airs Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. on FX (Cable 24).

UFC heavyweight contender, Antonio Silva recently shocked the MMA world at UFC 156 where he viciously knocked out former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem.

Following the impressive victory, one of Silva sponsors offered him a brand new red Maserati if he would resign, Silva gladly accepted the offer and the estimated $126,000 sports car.

The Gran Turismo Maserati maxes out at a top speed of 180 mph, and does 0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds.

The former EliteXC champion is now scheduled to face UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez for the second time at UFC 160.

The two previously clashed at UFC 146, where Velasquez defeat Silva via TKO in the first round after opening a big cut over his forehead early in the fight.

Check out Silva's brand new car below:

http://middleeasy.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=10296:ufc-has-won-their-lawsuit-against-new-york-state-and-can-now-begin-holding-events-there-immediately-yes&catid=34:organizations

It’s cold out today, there’s still some snow lingering from last week’s snowstorm, but if a day like today doesn’t call for some sort of outdoor celebration in New York State, I’m not sure what does. Invite Kimbo over for a BBQ and rejoice, because the UFC has won their lawsuit against New York State and can now begin holding events there legally as soon as they want to. Let’s be clear, MMA is still 100% illegal in New York, but the UFC is not. From now on, when someone tells you they ‘trane UFC’ – there is actually some validity to their claim. You simply can’t ridicule them like you could yesterday and everyday since Adam met Eve (or whatever origin of species theory you subscribe to).

I’d like to pretend I followed this case closely, but the props go to underground MMA connoisseur, author, and all around swell guy; Jim Genia. In an article on Fightline.com here’s the scoop:

“ Zuffa scored a big win in their lawsuit against New York today, paving the way for the organization to legally hold a UFC event in the state almost immediately and regardless of whether or not the ban on professional mixed martial arts is lifted by the legislature.

In what was supposed to be a day of oral arguments pertaining to the State Attorney General's most recent motion to dismiss, attorney John M. Schwartz – representing the Attorney General's office – acknowledged unequivocally that the law prohibiting pro MMA did not apply to amateur versions of the sport, and that as per the statute, a pre-approved third-party sanctioning body could oversee MMA events in the state. The admission of the latter prompted the counsel representing Zuffa's interests to say that if that were truly the case, then there'd be no further need to pursue the lawsuit – which in turn prompted the presiding Judge Kimba Wood of the U.S District Court of the Southern District of New York to push both sides to immediately settle.

The statute banning professional MMA in New York was enacted in 1997, at a time when fighting in a cage was more spectacle than sport. But MMA has evolved since then, and with the inclusion of a plethora of rules and a variety of weight classes, sanctioning can be attained in nearly every other state in the country. New York remains one of the last holdouts. Efforts to have the ban repealed by lobbying the legislature have stalled each year since 2008; Zuffa's lawsuit against the State of New York, citing Constitutional violations, was filed in November, 2011.

Notwithstanding whether a settlement is reached, the door is now open for Zuffa – or any other MMA promotion – to circumvent the ban by utilizing one of the pre-approved sanctioning bodies enumerated in the statute. Those sanctioning bodies include the World Karate Association (since renamed the World Kickboxing Association, a.k.a. the "WKA"), the Professional Karate Association and the U.S. Judo Association, among others.

Only a few of the organizations listed are currently still active, and while the WKA has been responsible for sanctioning professional kickboxing events in New York for years, a recent letter sent to Governor Andrew Cuomo by the Association of Boxing Commissions blasted the state for placing sanctioning responsibility in the hands of organizations who have "failed to meet the health and safety standards that the Association believes are necessary." Regardless, under the 1997 law and by the Attorney General's own admission, sanctioning by a third-party organization is a viable way around the ban. In addition, as long as the law remains on the books, the New York State Athletic Commission has no regulatory authority over MMA and would therefore have no oversight over such events.

"We'll take it," said UFC in-house counsel Timothy Bellamy, who was present at today's proceedings. "We'd rather have the state lift the ban and we go that route first, but we'll know in the next two months if that's going to happen." If it doesn't, said Bellamy, then the UFC would use the third-party-sanctioning option.

In January, UFC president Dana White promised a UFC at Madison Square Garden this coming November. It seems that event may now very well happen.

For those that have never been to Madison Square Garden, have no fear about getting a seat because there are a mind-bending 22,300 seats available when the arena is set up for a boxing or pro-wrestling match, which means you’ll probably be able to get a seat as long as you’re not the 22,301st person to try purchasing a ticket. We know you’re better than that. On a more serious note, there’s still no guarantee that MMA will be legalized this year, although people are still hopeful the state will agree to regulate it, but according to this lawsuit victory, it wouldn’t matter. In fact, the only part of the lawsuit that remains unclear is whether or not elbows will be allowed – they are still universally illegal throughout all combat sports in New York, even in sports like Muay Thai. Time will tell if the rules will be modified, or if a third party will choose to ignore those regulations. Either way, we’re happy the UFC has found a legal loophole to bring MMA to some loyal fans who have waited far too long for their first local event.

Holy shit. Fitch was released today. He wasn't the most exciting fighter, but you can't say he wasn't one of the most dominant Welterweights in UFC history based on his record. He'll probably go to Bellator and decision Ben Askren for the title.

Former welterweight contender Jon Fitch was among the 16 UFC fighters who were released from the promotion on Tuesday.

UFC president Dana White also confirmed with MMAFighting.com that the following fighters were also let go: Wagner Prado, Mike Russow, Jacob Volkmann, Vladimir Matyushenko, Che Mills, Jay Hieron, Terry Etim, Paul Sass, Jorge Santiago, Mike Stumpf, Simeon Thoresen, C.J. Keith, Motonobu Tezuka, Josh Grispi and Ulysses Gomez.

Each fighter was coming off at least one loss in his most recent fight.

i have always hated matt hughes but fuck, i just read this breakdown of his book

what a f'n asshole

I just bought a copy of Matt Hughes book, and am in 3 chapters already. It is borderline unbelievable. I figured from all the FRAT postings that not everyone on the UG is a big reader, so I'm doing you all a favour. I'm reading it for you and providing a synopsis, chapter by chapter. As astounding as some of this sounds, everything I post is actually in the book. Here it goes:

Chapter 1

Matt talks about growing up on a farm, and what repulsive little brats he and Mark were growing up. To this day, he thinks their childhood "mischief" like breaking **** all the time, being disobedient to their parents, and being cruel to animals is funny. After reading chapter one, you'll find yourself thinking, "Somebody should have beat those kids asses"

Chapter 2

Matt talks about how he and Mark virtually hated each other in jr. high, and high school. He also talks about how he was better, and smarter than Mark at everything.

Chapter 3

Things take a very interesting turn in chapter 3 when Mark and Matt's father has the balls to scold Mark for riding a motorcycle without a helmet. Without letting him finish, the Hughes brothers, physically attack their father, and beat the **** out of him, finally showing him who's boss. Later Mark threatens to throw his mom out of a window or something like that when she's stupid enough to correct him. Not surprisingly the family splits up.

Chapter 4

Matt cheats his way through college getting A's in classes he proudly says he never attended. He and the other wrestlers bully everybody at Lincoln Junior College, and break a bunch of ****. They tip over people's cars, and flood the dorms on purpose. We reach a new low, when he also makes light of the fact that one of his college buddies could not read or write. He then takes time to bash Frank Trigg, saying that he "never became anything."

Later it gets even more disturbing when he describes mutilating a live baby piglet by cutting off it's testicles, and throwing them at a friend. For good measure he slits it's stomach open as it screams wildly to "freak his friend out." After he and Mark brutally torture and kill a dozen or so baby pigs, solely for entertainment, they starts throwing their testicles and body parts at each other. Matt even now still seems amused because his friend looked like he was going to vomit.

A family member shoots himself over a girl, and Matt skips the funeral decided to go to a wrestling meet instead. After getting drunk one night they take a bunch of girls "swimming" in some sort of pond/rain water/sewer runoff. There is a whirlpool that's formed in the sewage pond, and Matt and 2 other drunk college kids get caught in the current. Matt pulls himself out but the 2 other kids drowned. He talks about how God saved him.(apparently God hated the other 2 drunk college kids) They feel so sorry for the 2 kids that died, that the same night the go out and get drunk again, and look for girls. They end up at a house party, and are having no luck with the girls, so they started eating food from the cabinets and refrigerator. When confronted by the home's owner, they throw him through a window, and leave before the cops get there. Matt then starts fighting MMA and kicking everyone's ass easily. Pat Miletich refs one of Matt's fights, and is so impressed he invites him to train with them.

On a side note, for a guy who's disgusted by the language Serra uses, I've counted 14 curse words to this point in the book.

I forgot in Chapter 4, him and Mark both make-out with the same 8th grade girl while they are in college. Why he would include that I have no idea. It had nothing to do with the story.

Chapter 5

Chapter 5 is mostly uneventful, just talks about his first fight in Japan, and so on. He does manage to say "I would have done anything for a country breakfast in Japan" which did nauseate me momentarily. The end of the chapter starts picking up momentum when at Mark's wedding, the boys snub their dad, not allowing him in the family photos. Later, after getting completely plastered they beat the **** out of their new in-laws at the wedding reception, and the entire event turns into what Matt calls "A Battle Royal."

Chapter 6

This chapter should have been titled "I am such a badass." Matt misses no opportunity to pat himself on the back for his fights. He talks about steamrolling everybody. Later Matt shows his utter lack of character when he divulges that he guilt-tripped a fellow mitetich guy into letting him win a grappling match at the Abu Dhabis so he could get the bonus money for fastest submission. The guy fakes like Matt submitted him, earning Matt $1,500 for fastest submission. The way Hughes rationalized it was "The winner faced Tito Ortiz, and we both knew I was the only one that would have a chance against him." He admits Tito beat him in the grappling match, but remembers being surprised at how much stronger he was than Tito. He basically says Tito got lucky in beating him. More later on.

Chapter 7

Matt talks about how he and Jens Pulver used to belittle new members at the Miletich gym. He talks about how they both made fun of and ignored a fat kid who was seemingly in awe of them. That fat kid was Tim Sylvia. He talks about how the UFC temporarily released him "by mistake." He finished the chapter by divulging that he likes to eat at Hooters, and he knocked up the gym skank, who he describes as having "nice boobs, even though they were fake" and "her hips were a little too wide for his taste." Apparently not to wide to impregnate.

Chapter 8

Matt starts this chapter by sexually assaulting the aforementioned 8th grader, who's now 21, in public at a grocery store. Or "Smacking her on the ass" as he called it. Matt notices that her body is "tighter" now that she's grown up, and not the same 13 year old he'd made out with in college. For some reason Matt immediately tells her that he knocked his girlfriend up, and seems utterly outraged that she has decided she's
keeping the baby.

After making it back to her parents house he again begins fondling her on the couch by reaching through a hole in her jeans. He goes on to describe how he noticed she didn't shave her legs that day. (At this point I started to wonder if I mistakenly was reading Penthouse Forum or something.)

The story line changes out of nowhere and Matt begins describing how an opponent who he was mauling once whispered to him to "take the arm," or in other words, I've had enough, please just arm-bar me, and leave me a little dignity. Matt decided he wanted to "take out some more aggression", and continued to beat the **** out of him for another round.

Also, at the end of the chapter the victim of his sexual assault, for some reason I can't begin to fathom, breaks up with him.

Chapter 9

This chapter tells a story about how Tim Sylvia approached Matt like a man, and asked Matt why he had a problem with him when no one else at Miletich does. Matt then goes on to describe the look on Tim's face when Tim who was hoping to bury the hatchet, gets told that he's lazy, not a team player, and Matt didn't like him. Matt takes joy in the fact that he knew exactly how he was treating Tim, and Tim was hoping he'd apologize or something.

Tim, obviously crushed says that Matt has always been one of his heroes, and he'd do anything to be his friend. Matt then tells him he's got enough friends, and that Tim can't buy acceptance by following his team mates around to UFCs when he's not invited.

This chapter is interrupted by a bunch of pictures of Matt being repulsive at different ages. There's a repulsive Matt baby picture, a repulsive Matt toddler picture, a repulsive Matt with a mullet high school picture, a repulsive Matt adult with family picture. The one that tops it all off is a picture of him writing this book on a, I **** you not, typewriter. It looks to be 60 or so years old. But hey, he is from the country I guess.

He then talks about Tito getting knocked out on the street, and what a dick Tito always was to him.

He ends the chapter in typical fashion talking about his sexual assault victim waiting for him to get home from Europe one night, sitting in a car outside his house. He takes that opportunity to let us all know he wouldn't see her that night because he was "too busy spending the night in someone else's bed."

Come to find out, the victim sitting in the car would later become his wife. I bet she loved the fact that he included that little tid bit in his book.

Chapter 10

Matt is up to more shenanigans as he starts dropping by his ex-victim's house, who wants nothing to do with him, when she's not there, and pretty much kidnapping her three year old son so he can spend time with him. She finds out about it and puts a stop to it, the way her parents should have put a stop to college age Matt and Mark making out with her when she was 13.

From here we go to a weird story about how Matt refused to walk all of the way to the bathroom in a bar at a casino in Las Vegas, and would just publicly urinate near the bar while pretending to be getting another drink because it was "dark enough in there to get away with it." I'm at a loss for why that was included in the book. At that same bar his brother Mark's wife refused to get on the bar and dance with some other skanks despite the fact that Mark had ordered her to. She left the bar upset.

He then talks about his ex-victim deciding to get breast implants in the plastic surgery mecca of the U.S., Cedar Rapids. She wanted to know if Matt would stay with her for a day after her surgery because she would be highly medicated. Matt agreed and took full advantage of a still very groggy patient and had sex with her THE DAY AFTER HER SURGERY, which unfortunately "tore some stitches." He also says that this was the first time he saw her completely naked because she always wore her shirt when they had sex before. I didn't know what to make of that either.

He finishes up by talking about how he destroyed Sherk for 5 rounds, and then says he encouraged Sylvia after he tested positive for steroids.

Chapter 11

This chapter was a whole lot of nothing. Matt beat the hell out of Trigg. Matt was beating BJ Penn but just got caught with a good right hand. Matt gets married and has a 24 hour honeymoon which includes dinner at Steak N Shake, and watching the boy he was kidnapping earlier, who is now his step-son swim at a cheap motel pool. That's right, they took the kid with them on their honeymoon. Nice little reminder that someone else has slept with your new bride if you ask me. Still no mention of Matt's other kid so far. You know, the one he wanted to have his ex abort. He also says that some guy started talking to him about becoming a
Christian.

Chapter 12

We now find Matt at an orphanage in Mexico helping out as a missionary. After some prodding, he becomes a Christian in Mexico, and returns home a few days later. He immediately starts lecturing his wife, who for some reason he now calls "Mom" even when they're alone, about her language and her spiritual life. She's not having it, and starts bringing up all of the girls he slept with in the past.(something he still seems to be just a little proud of) He beats Trigg??s ass again, and then his step son gets in trouble at school for kicking other kindergarteners, and Matt instructs him to use his shin next time instead of his toe.

Chapter 13

This ************ is out of his mind.

For some reason he still calls his wife/victim "mom." Dana calls and wants him to coach tuf 2. Matt tells "mom" he's unsure about being away from her for 6 weeks, because he doesn't want to end up like Randy Couture, and leave his long time wife for someone he met while filming tuf. Where does this dude get off airing Randy's dirty laundry??? "Mom" then assures him that he's no Randy Couture. I would also like to take this time to personally reassure him that he is no Randy Couture. And who the hell worries about leaving their wife if they can't see them for 6 weeks. What the ****?

He also takes time to tell us that everything about Randy "radiated decency....except for his actions." What the hell is going on here?

He also tells Dana that he WILL NOT CUSS on the show. He will apparently do it in his book though

He next proceeds to forget his 6 year old step son is with him at the tuf training facility, and drives away leaving him there for over an hour.
Later he can't believe a guy has the balls to ask for his autograph while he and "mom" are eating, and regrets to this day that he signed it.

He talks about filming the country breakfast commercial.

Later while training at MFS, some young fighter from TUF who is now training at Miletich has the nerve to come up and talk to him after practice like they're on the same level. Hughes is completely pissed that this nobody thinks he is worthy to talk to him, but because he's a Christian he's decides he must be nice to the kid.

Matt then does a complete 180 and says maybe he was a little judgemental of Randy. A little? Again, what the hell is wrong with this ************.

Chapter 14......Finally

I really am out of town without the book, but the outcry for a conclusion has been so great that I actually went to Borders books last night and read chapter 14 so I could post my synopsis today.

Matt begins this chapter by telling a story about him insulting Joe Riggs......in front of Joe's wife. Apparently a few months after Matt beat Joe, he ran into Joe and his wife somewhere. Joe introduces Matt to his wife, and Matt says, "Hi, I'm Matt, I'm the guy that beat up your husband a few months ago." Matt says everyone laughed, except for Joe and his wife, which led me to wonder who "everyone" was. He also mentions, for some unknown reason, that he had sex with his wife in Pat Miletich's room, the day before his fight with Riggs. It's said almost with the overtones of Matt being a "playboy" or something like that. I guess it's better than being proud of sleeping with someone besides her like he described earlier.

Next he takes time to talk about how he basically owned Brock Lesnar when he came to train with MFS, submitting him with ease. He also talks about not being impressed with Lesnar in several ways. One, he wasn't impressed with his wrestling credentials, because Matt himself was every bit as much an elite wrestler. Two, and even more amazing, he says he was surprised that Lesnar "wasn't that big," only 6'2" or 6'3". This is coming from a guy who's pushing 5'8". That's like Jason Reinhardt being surprised by how many cans Chuck Liddell has fought.

We then move to his fight with Royce Gracie, or as Matt refers to him sarcastically "the ninja." After basically trashing everything the Gracie's, and Royce in particular, have accomplished he then goes on to talk about how he wasn't worried about Gracie at all. He knew he was a myth. He describes their fight, and says he was again surprised by how much better was on the ground than Royce "the ninja". At one point he even says that Royce didn't seem to know what he was doing from the bottom, and wasn't even trying to counter anything Matt was throwing at him. He also intimates the fact that he really wanted to break Royce's arm, but had to settle for a choke.

The chapter finishes up with him and Liddell being at Disney World together with their families, and all but calling Chuck an attention whore. Matt says he tries to steer clear of attention in public, but Chuck makes sure everyone notices who he is.

Another thing I've noticed Matt mentioning repeatedly in the book is that he's red headed. He said it at least 5 times now. My question is, when did that become something people brag about? Every red headed kid I ever knew took **** for their hair. But Matt embraces it.

Something else that is really hard to stomach that keeps surfacing in the book is the fact that Matt loves manual labor. He only agreed to go to Mexico on the missionary trip because they promised him he'd be doing "manual labor." He constantly congratulates himself for his farm bred work ethic saying at one point, "Hey, if there's some sort of work to be done, you know I'll be there."

Chapter 15

Matt starts by describing how he intentionally got an argument going between Matt Serra, and Mark Laimon on TUF. He goes on to talk about while he was there he could tell that George St. Pierre was afraid of him. He says St. Pierre is the last person he'd want on his side in combat or a street fight because it's one thing to be tough in a cage, and another to be tough in a street fight in an alley. Apparently Matt now also fancies himself a street fighter. Someone should remind him that it's one thing to be tough while kicking your dad's ass alone, but a completely different thing to be tough while kicking your dad's ass with your brother.

Next, Matt quotes his wife bitching about something during which she drops 2 F-bombs. Really classy lady imo. Matt then reneges on a promotional appearance he was scheduled for.

Matt's wife then has a C-section, and Matt comments that the doctor had red hair. I still don't know what the deal is with the constant focus on red hair.

Not long after the birth a Mom is again hospitalised when she is feeling sick, and that's when the details get a little sketchy and the story takes a strange turn. Without explaining clearly why, Matt claims to have jumped on top of his wife while she was laying in the hospital bed recovering, and she forcefully pushed him off. He fell backward and hit his head on a table, and was momentarily dazed, almost knocked out. What is it with surgery and sex with this guy?

Chapter 16

Matt begins the final chapter of his illustrious literary work by talking to Pat Miletich about his upcoming rematch with BJ Penn. Matt says he was a little unsure of himself when taking that match. His nerves were calmed, however, when looking across the cage at BJ he noticed, and I quote, "that silver spoon's been putting a lot of food in his mouth, he looks plain fat."

He goes on to describe how he was absolutely dominating the stand-up in that fight. I for one was wondering if he was talking about the same fight I saw. He says that Tito was yelling encouragement to BJ and Mark Hughes told him that he'd better shut up. I'm sure Tito was petrified.

BJ tried a dirty move by poking him in the eye, but that didn't stop Matt's domination of the stand-up. Big John then stopped the fight. And Mark
Hughes continues telling Tito that "he's nothing, he's nobody, he's a freaking idiot."

GSP stole Matt's glory by showing no class when he came in the cage and said he was not impressed. Matt responds in true badass street fighter style by telling GSP, "you just showed me who you really are." No, Matt, he'll show you who he really is on two separate occasions in the months to come.

After some redneck bullshit where Rachel Leah got burned twice and some guy almost died on an ATV at Hughes' farm we fast forward to the GSP fight. Matt says GSP only started beating him after kicking him in the balls twice, and that he wasn't even knocked out when Big John stopped the fight. His next fight he destroys Chris Lytle.

Something else in the book that I couldn't bear to write about is Matt's use of "the witchdoctor." He never goes into great detail, but apparently the witchdoctor is a faith healer that hangs around Matt all of the time.
The book ends with Matt laughing about GSP losing to Serra, and him being excited enough about fighting Serra to coach TUF again. He then walks outside to breathe that "fresh Hillsboro country air."

When someone can venture in a Russian forest to hunt a grizzly bear with a fork, special rules need to be applied if that same person decides to compete in an MMA bout. It's the only way to level the playing field amongst human beings that aren't genetically predisposed to owning reality. It's already established that Aleksander has the power to distort the space-time continuum and can knock people out just by thinking about. In fact, Aleksander's telepathy is so powerful that he's even forced people into retirement without landing a single strike. Whenever he's not bending Dr. Levinson's time equations, Alek likes to cause absolute ruckus on passenger planes. Check out this report from R-Sport regarding an incident that occurred yesterday.

Alexander Emelianenko has been fined after pleading guilty to harassing passengers and crew on an airplane, Russian prosecutors said Monday.

A video of the incident spread quickly on the Internet. In the clip, Emelianenko appears to be drunk as he scuffles with passengers and crew.

“During the flight, the renowned athlete caused a breach of public order, spoke loudly, molested passengers, provoked them into fights, did not react to remarks from the cabin crew, demanded liquor, used foul language, smoked in the airplane,” Barnaul transport prosecutors said in a statement issued to media.

Emelianenko, 31, admitted a low-level hooliganism charge and was fined 700 rubles ($22.70), prosecutors said.

Four days after the incident on the flight, the M1 Global MMA promotion canceled its contract with the fighter, with president Vadim Finkelstein citing numerous breaches of contract on the part of Emelianenko.

Hours after M1 Global’s decision, Emelianenko said he would retire.

Just another day in the life of Aleksander Emelianenko. Heck, we probably have enough material to do a 'Top Ten Stories on Written on MiddleEasy about Aleksander Emelianenko' if you guys are up for another feature.

Dave Meltzer: Ronda Rousey is the number five PPV draw in #UFC

« In response to former manager, Mirko Cro Cop digs a deeper hole | Home | Florida’s commission jacks up prices, approves faulty rings, allows a transgender fighter to compete in women’s MMA tournament »

By Zach Arnold | March 5, 2013

A summary from a Sunday radio interview on Sherdog:

The early estimate for the UFC 157 PPV buy rate is in the 400,000-500,000 range, more or less in the middle of that range. Dave claims UFC budgeted itself for 250,000 PPV buys for the Anaheim Pond event, hoping that Ronda would draw around what the smaller fighters like Jose Aldo & Frankie Edgar draw. Drawing 250,000 PPV buys is fine, 300,000 is good, and 400,000 is very good.

“A big success” even though “it’s still Liz Carmouche in the main event.” Both women made north of $150,000 USD in terms of money from the fight.

When Dave first saw the original PPV barker ad for the UFC 157 show (the now infamous Rousey mean/smile combo ad), he said it hit him that it’s two girls fighting and that it wasn’t going to draw so well. The early ticket sales in Anaheim were around 4,000 sold for $600,000 at the gate. However, unlike normal UFC business trends, the event ended up sold out and had more momentum for the close.

While the amount of paid tickets sold and gate wasn’t as high as a typical big UFC show is concerned, there were a few reasons for this. The first reason is that Los Angeles/Anaheim is a very tough market for UFC to draw big numbers in. Second, “there was fear” when they put Ronda Rousey on top of the Anaheim Pond card. When the early indications showed slow ticket sales, “they had to be scared” that a ton of empty seats would have Ronda look like a flop to the masses. Over 7,000 tickets were sold in the last couple of weeks. The momentum for the fight surged greatly two weeks before the event and Ronda Rousey being a Southern California girl made it a big deal.

Dave thought the fight would draw 200,000-300,000 PPV buys tops, similar to what Frankie Edgar or Jose Aldo draw. Instead, it drew much stronger numbers.

“She’s gonna be a good PPV draw.”

Dave claims that DirecTV is stating that no other UFC PPV show has ever sold more buys for the High Definition telecast than UFC 157 drew. The early web PPV buys UFC got for the show led them to think the show would draw 300,000 PPV buys but momentum grew and then they started feeling that the show could hit the 500,000 PPV buy mark.

The belief is that Ronda was able to attract a different kind of PPV audience — one more affluent and female. However, the live audience at the Anaheim Pond was still 80% guys and pretty much standard UFC event far.

Jack Encarnacao asked where Ronda Rousey ranks as a UFC PPV draw, given that she’s a bigger attraction than Frankie Edgar, Dan Henderson, Urijah Faber, and Ben Henderson. Dave said Rousey/Carmouche out-drew Anderson Silva/Stephan Bonnar and was parallel to the Jon Jones/Vitor Belfort fight. The fight had some novelty appeal and drew way more media coverage than any other UFC fight.

“I suspect Ronda (will be) no worse than the #5 draw in the company if she continues to win.” Dave says that one UFC company source believes Ronda can draw 700,000 PPV buys a fight if she continues her winning streak over the next year. Dave says it’s a “wait and see” situation regarding whether or not Ronda can regularly draw more than 400,000 PPV buys per fight. However, if she loses…

“Will the people stay with her when she’s lost once?”

Ranking UFC’s top 5 PPV attractions: Georges St. Pierre, Jon Jones, Anderson Silva, Cain Velasquez, and Ronda Rousey. Each fighter appeals to a certain fan base. St. Pierre appeals to Canadians. Jones is the superstar, dynamic athletic. Anderson Silva attacts tons of Brazilian fans. Cain appeals to Hispanics. Ronda appeals to female fans and non-traditional UFC fans with cash to burn.

Chan Sung Jung
Dear Mr. Geroges St. Pierre

Hi, My name is Chan Sung Jung from South Korea. As one of many Koreans who like you as an incredible athlete, I feel like I should tell you that many Korean fans, including myself, were shocked to see you in your gi designed after the Japanese 'Rising Sun Flag'. For Asians, this flag is a symbol of war crimes, much like the German Hakenkreuzflagge. Did you know that? I hope not.

Just like Nazis, the Japanese also committed atrocities under the name of 'Militarism'. You can easily learn what they've done by googling (please do), although it's only the tiny tip of an enormous iceberg.

Furthermore, the Japanese Government never gave a sincere apology, and still to this day, so many victims are dying in pain, heartbroken, without being compensated. But many westerners like to wear clothes designed after the symbol under which so many war crimes and so much tragedy happened, which is ridiculous.

I know most of them are not militarists. I know most of them do not approve unjustified invasion, torture, massacre, etc. They're just ignorant. It's such a shame that many westerners are not aware of this tragic fact. Wearing Rising Sun outfits is as bad as wearing clothes with the Nazi mark on it, if not worse.

Since you're influenced by Japanese Martial Arts, your wearing a headband designed after Japanese flag is understandable. But again, that huge 'Rising Sun' on your Gi means something else.

Many people say GSP is the best Welterweight fighter throughout history, to which I totally agree. This means you have a great influence on every single fan of yours all around the world. And I do believe your wearing 'the symbol of War Crime' is a very bad example for them, not to mention for yourself.

So, what do you reckon?
Do you want to wear the same Gi next time as well? — with Georges St-Pierre and Georges St-Pierre.

They should find a Japanese fighter to match the Korean Zombie up against and let him take out his frustrations that way.

In all seriousness, I didn't know that was an offensive symbol. If it is that serious, maybe GSP should listen.

Since Georges St-Pierre wore our walkout gi at UFC 158 we have received attention surrounding the negative connotation of the rising sun graphic used. The last thing we want is to offend or alienate anyone with the choice of design on our products.

We at Hayabusa have the utmost respect for culture and history and appreciate all of our customers worldwide. As such, we accept full responsibility for this design and are taking all complaints and comments very seriously.

The gi worn by GSP will not be brought to market. In addition, we will be very conscious of this specific design element when developing future communication materials and products.

Please accept our sincerest apology for any offence this has caused. If you have any questions or comments regarding this matter, please feel free to discuss it with us at customerservice@hayabusafightwear.com. One of our representatives will be happy to assist you.

Apparently GSP is going to have a small part in the Captain America sequel:

Another Marvel Universe villain is set to appear in Anthony and Joe Russo's Captain America: The Winter Soldier as Latino Review reports that UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre will be playing French kickboxing master Georges Batroc, AKA Batroc the Leaper.

With origins dating all the way back to 1966's "Tales of Suspense" #75, Batroc doesn't have any superhuman abilities beyond his mastery of martial arts. While he's primarily a Cap foe, he's appeared throughout the Marvel Universe and done battle with the likes of Spider-Man, the Punisher, Iron Fist and many more.

St-Pierre, who hails from Quebec, has previously appeared in the martial arts films Death Warrior and Never Surrender, both directed by Hector Echavarria.

Also set to star Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Scarlett Johansson, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Hayley Atwell, Robert Redford and Maximiliano Hernández, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is said to be a political thriller inspired by Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting's acclaimed arc in the comics.

The sequel begins production shortly, aiming for an April 4, 2014 release.

Upbeat UFC featherweight Marcus Brimage is not particularly happy with the match ups UFC officials have thrown his way thus far, telling MMA Fight Corner that he believes he is being used as a "stepping-stone" for fighters who come into the organization with hype around them and that people think he "sucks."

 SHARE (14)  TWEET (11) 47 COMMENTS
"The plan is to win by any means necessary. If it goes to decision it sucks, but it'll go to decision. If I knock his ass out in the first, then I knock his ass out in the first. We don't get paid by the round in the UFC. It's just that the position I'm in, in the UFC, everyone thinks I suck. Sooo if I beat you, you really suck. Because they keep using me as a stepping-stone. Maximo Blanco he was supposed to on the fast track to Aldo, I stopped that...Jimy Hettes, I stopped that. Now this guy, and I'm about to stop that again. They think I suck. They keep using me as a stepping stone, but if I keep beating you and you suck, then that means you really suck."

-- Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight Marcus Brimage (6-1) tells MMA Fight Corner about the lack of appreciation he feels from fans and the UFC brass going into his UFC on FUEL TV 9 bout against highly touted Irish prospect Conor McGregor. Despite holding a 3-0 record inside the Octagon, "The Bama Beast" is being regulated to the Facebook preliminary portion of the card against an organizational newcomer. That doesn't appear to sit well with Mr. Brimage as he thinks the promotion is using him as a stepping-stone for new talent, a point that's hard to argue after taking a look at his record and list of opponents. Regardless of Brimage's feelings, a win against McGregor at UFC on FUEL TV 9 would move him to 4-0 under the UFC banner and he will certainly receive a pretty significant step up in competition.

UPDATED: Jon Jones Injured, BJ Penn steps in to fight Chael Sonnen At UFC 159 | UFC NEWS

The injury bug is starting to spread. After rumors of the UFC on FUEL TV 9 event being in jeopardy due to an injury to Alexander Gustafsson, sources are now reporting that Jon Jones has suffered an undisclosed injury forcing him out of the UFC 159 Main Event.

UFC President Dana White could not have been happy when he got the call that one of the more anticipated UFC PPV events is losing one of the Main Event fighters. The injury that is forcing the Light Heavyweight champion to withdraw is said to be ‘very serious’ and he could miss “significant time” according to sources.

Trying to find a suitable replacement for the Main Event would be a difficult task, especially on such short notice. The fight is just under 4 weeks away, but a legend of the sport has stepped up: BJ Penn. When the 2x UFC champion heard of the injury to Jones, he made the call to White and asked for the fight.

The UFC granted Penn’s request.

UFC 159 is set to go down from New Jersey’s Prudential center on April 27. The Penn vs. Sonnen fight will serve as the evening’s headliner.

If you were offended by George St. Pierre's walkout gi from his UFC 158 fight against Nick Diaz last month in Montreal, then you must be an idiot.

That's according to former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight Ryo Chonan, who thinks you might be too stupid to go out and educate yourself on the history involving Korea and Japan as it pertains to war crimes back in World War II.

From Samurai Life (via Middle Easy):

"All the people complaining about the Rising Sun flag is an idiot. Learn history! Even though that might be too much for you idiots. I don't care about the comfort women (girls and women essentially held captive in a life of enforced prostitution in the Imperial Japanese Army), go make more statues in Korea. Japan is too busy. There is a lot of exaggerations and anti-Japanese education in regards to Japanese involvement in World War II. Japan actually helped Korea and made it a developed country. Also when Japan was there Korea was not divided between North and South."

Subtle.

St. Pierre was openly criticized by fellow UFC star Chan Sung Jung (see his beef here), who called "Rush" out for sporting a Rising Sun flag that was, by "Korean Zombie's" definition, the equivalent of the Swastika in terms of offensive symbolism.

That's just idiotic, says Chonan.

Nevertheless, leading retailer of combat sports apparel, Hayabusa, promised to keep the offending gi off the market while St. Pierre promptly apologized for his unintended gear gaffe (read his statement here). All's well that ends well, right?

Not if you ask the Japanese "Piranha."

Even with a complete unknown in the main event, ratings for Saturday afternoon's UFC on Fuel 9 seem to indicate more and more fan familiarity with the station.

The show, headlined by former Strikeforce champion Gegard Mousasi's UFC debut, facing late replacement Ilir Latifi, averaged 236,000 viewers for the three-hour telecast. It was the fourth most-watched program in the station's history, and the largest ever for a non-prime time broadcast.

It should be noted that all four of those shows have been UFC broadcasts that have aired over the last three months. The previous live show, airing in prime time with a stronger marquee card from Japan and headlined by Wanderlei Silva vs. Brian Stann on March 2, averaged 485,000 viewers and blew away all station records. The pre-fight show for Silva vs. Stann did 250,000 viewers. Also finishing ahead of Saturday's show were prelims from a Jan. 19 FX show from Brazil, that did 255,000 viewers. Fuel is currently available in 37 million homes, a number that hasn't varied significantly since UFC started on the station.

What made this number impressive is the show aired starting at 2 p.m. on the East Coast and 11 a.m. on the West Coast. During those hours, Fuel was the highest rated ad-supported cable station in the Male 18-34 and Male 18-49 demographic, something unheard of for the station. In Males 18-49, it was the second-highest rated show in station history.

Also notable is a major shift in viewership habits when it comes to live vs. prime time.

Historically, when UFC would run afternoon shows from Europe, they would draw higher numbers on tape in prime time for replay showings than live. That has changed of late. On Saturday, the 7 p.m. Eastern time slot did 98,000 viewers and the third airing, for West Coast prime time, did 92,000 viewers, meaning 426,000 total viewers.
The three airings also led Fuel to its second most-watched day in its history, trailing only March 2.

Viewership was up 20 percent from the 197,000 viewers for the first UFC show from Stockholm, on April 14, 2012, in a similar time slot at the same time of the year. With Alexander Gustafsson vs. Thiago Silva as the main event, that was a stronger marquee match to the public. The most recent live UFC show out of prime time, on Feb. 16, from London, England, headlined by interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao retaining the title over Michael McDonald, did 195,000 viewers. The non-prime time record had been 215,000 viewers on March 15 for the Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz weigh-ins.

While Mousasi has some name from Strikeforce, Latifi was a complete unknown, who took the fight four days ahead of time after Gustafsson was not allowed to fight, due to a head cut suffered days earlier.

Two days after his 19-second knockout win over Philip De Fries, UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione has had his contract suspended by the promotion.

In a Monday appearance on "The MMA Hour," Mitrione called Fox a "lying, sick, sociopathic, disgusting freak."

In response, the UFC issued a statement saying the "TUF 10" veteran's contract has been suspended and he will be investigated.

"The UFC was appalled by the transphobic comments made by heavyweight Matt Mitrione today in an interview on 'The MMA Hour,'" the statement read. "The organization finds Mr. Mitrione’s comments offensive and wholly unacceptable and – as a direct result of this significant breach of the UFC’s code of conduct – Mr. Mitrione's UFC contract has been suspended and the incident is being investigated. The UFC is a friend and ally of the (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community, and expects and requires all 450 of its athletes to treat others with dignity and respect."

The UFC in January announced a code of conduct for its fighters under contract.

Fox has been a near-permanent fixture in MMA news for the better part of the past month after SI.com reported that Fox, 37, had gender reassignment surgery in 2006 along with supplemental hormonal therapy.

Fox holds a 5-0 combined record as a professional and amateur fighter with all five wins coming in the first round. But the controversy has been centered around her potential opponents and whether they're entering into fair fights with her.

Peggy Morgan recently told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) she wasn't convinced that Fox didn't hold a physical advantage over other women in the cage, despite the fact that "socially, yes, she is a woman."

In the interview, Mitrione repeated referred to Fox as "he" and "him" and said he was "appalled" by Fox fighting other women.

"It's an embarrassment to us as fighters, as a sport, and we all should protest that," Mitrione said. "The woman that's fighting him, props to you. I hope you beat his ass, and I hope he gets blackballed and never fights again because that's disgusting and I'm appalled by that."

Mitrione (6-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) on Saturday snapped a two-fight losing skid at UFC on FUEL TV 9 when he stopped De Fries quickly in the first round in Sweden. How quickly, if at all, he'll be allowed back in the octagon to go after a second straight win remains to be seen.

Mitrione did not immediately return a request for comment.

Did not know Mitrione was suspended. Although the language he used was ignorant and disrespectful, I agree with his take on Fallon Fox. Although Fox has had gender reassignment surgery, she still went through puberty and has the bone density and muscle structure of a man. I don't think she should be allowed to fight women for this reason. Other female fighters like Rousey and Tate agree.

McCorkle, who just got suspended for saying dumb shit, helped Mitrione write the "jokes" he told on MMA Hour..

I like Mitrione, but he def lives up to the "Meathead" moniker that Rashad gave him..

Of the 300 hopefuls who showed up at The Ultimate Fighter 18 tryouts in Las Vegas Monday, for the first time, there were women, too - 50 of them. Shayna Baszler, Kim Couture, Jessamyn Duke, Tonya Evinger, Tara LaRosa, and Roxanne Modafferi were among the hopefulls.

"It was absolutely a historic day to have the women here for the first The Ultimate Fighter tryout," said UFC president Dana White. "This is basically like the first season of The Ultimate Fighter to me."

"There are lots of girls out there that have taken taekwondo, judo, wrestling or mixed martial arts, and now they've got the opportunity to become a professional athlete and potentially make millions of dollars. I knew there was going to be a great turnout, and every season we do, the turnouts will get bigger and bigger."

UFC fighter Julie Kedzie was there in support of several Jackson-Winkeljohn teammates.

"They're always going to be remembered for this season, the girls that make it on the show, for being pioneers," said Kedzie. "I think it's incredible. This is going to spark, I think, hundreds of thousands of girls to start training. Look what happened after the first season of The Ultimate Fighter."

"It's cool to see this as a fresh start and a new beginning for the UFC. Some of these women have been doing this for a decade. This is going to be their chance to shine, and I'm excited to see them finally get the recognition they deserve."

Josh Rosenthal: MMA Referee & Your Pusher (Rosenthal Pleads Guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute $6 Million in Marijuana)

Big news regarding one of MMA's most notable referees. Josh Rosenthal pled guilty to conspiracy to manufacture and distribute marijuana, a charge first brought up last year in his hometown of Oakland, CA. MMA Junkie has the big details:

One year ago, federal agents raided an Oakland, Calif., warehouse owned by Rosenthal and an associate that contained 1,356 marijuana plants, according to a copy of the agreement, which MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) obtained from the U.S. District Attorney's office in Oakland.

The drug's street value was estimated at more than $6 million.

Rosenthal is due in U.S. District Court on May 17. The government is recommending 37 months in jail, fines and five years of probation, during which he would be subject to random searches, according to the agreement. Without a deal, he faced 10 years to life in prison, a $10 million fine and a minimum of five years' probation.

Rosenthal is perhaps best known for two fights: The decision not to stop Shane Carwin vs. Brock Lesnar in the 1st round at UFC 116 when Lesnar was close to a TKO loss, and the bizarre late stoppage of Chris Weidman vs. Mark Munoz at UFC on Fuel 4 last July. Rosenthal even admitted to having a slow reaction time for that bout. He hadn't refereed a UFC event since October in Minneapolis. He was still a visible figure as early as last week, when our own Eugene Robinson interviewed him at a Jiu-Jitsu tournament in California.

You really don't need me to tell you that this is a huge deal. If you hadn't seen him in a UFC cage recently you definitely won't be seeing him for a while. Bloody Elbow will update this story when Rosenthal is sentenced next month.

hendricks is hurt

it's weather he waits and gives big rig his shot or if he wants another fight before, not necessarily Silva

Silva is already gonna fight Weidman so I don't see that fight happening

Maia is the only guy who could step up unless the pull the Ellenberger/Rory fight and like Jake have his shot

I think GSP will wait for Hendricks

only other solution is to have the winner of Ellenberger/MacDonald but Rory is a fag and won't fight GSP and that fight isn't till July anyway so I would think, time wise, it would be the same as waiting on Hendricks

When Chael Sonnen was pursuing a fight with Anderson Silva, his key weapon was the MMA media. The ‘American Gangster’ produced a ceaseless stream of outrageous comments about Anderson, his career and his homeland.

The latter subject was controversial, with more than a few commentators accusing Sonnen of racism for his various derogatory comments about Brazil and its culture. For example, in the process of labelling it a third-world country, Sonnen expressed surprise that Brazil possessed such things as computers and internet access.

He also claimed that the Nogueira brothers had “tried to feed carrots to a bus”, the inference being that vehicles are such a rarity in Brazil that they didn’t know how to approach it. Many Brazilians, fighters and fans alike, were annoyed and offended by these comments. Brazilians generally take a fierce pride in their nation.

This past weekend, one of them attempted to gain restitution via a pound of flesh. Sonnen was at the TUF 17 Finale in Las Vegas and did some meeting and greeting with fight fans afterwards. One of them called him over for a photo opportunity - but it was a trap.

“He was there, shaking hands with everybody and everything, and this guy says, 'Hey Chael! Chael! C'mon over here.' Chael goes over there and the guy starts swinging on him, tried to punch him,” UFC president Dana White tells us.

“[Security] bundled the guy up and dragged him out and he's saying, 'F--k you! You are a piece of s--t! I'm from Brazil!' and all this other stuff. The guy attacked him at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17 Finale last Saturday.”

The Brazilian’s direct action came back on him in rather immediate fashion however, as the venue security gave him the five-star treatment on the way out of the building. “It was a bad move. They didn't take him out of there politely. He got bundled and dragged over every stair on the way out,” White laughed.

The humour of it aside, the incident does raise interesting issues. Sonnen’s press conference appearances in Brazil prior to his second Anderson Silva fight were fraught with security concerns. One of the reporters who attended tried to sabotage Sonnen with a novelty pen which delivered a mild electric shock.

Obviously that wasn’t a particularly serious incident but if a reporter feels like doing something like that, there’s no telling what a young hothead might attempt.

There’s a world of difference between US and Brazilian culture; the WWE-style trash talk which American audiences understand to be hyperbole don’t necessarily get understood that way in Brazil. Many Brazilians took Sonnen absolutely literally and were incensed by what they saw as outrageous slanders on their culture and country.

wait what

why should he have quit after beating Mir, winning the title and avenging his only loss??

i know thats win he got sick but he came back, had a huge comeback win against carwin, then lost to cain, who is the greatest HW in UFC history IMO, then lost to overeem

he might should have retired after the cain loss but he was a huge draw and was promised another title shot if he won

not really like he went on a huge losing skid jobbing to no bodies, he was still right there in the title hunt, fighting the best HW's in the world
