Any spoilers in the review? I want to read it but avoid spoilers.
Ever since GameTrailers totally spoiled the twist in Bionic Commando, I've not been too sure of watching reviews of games I'm trying not to spoil.

Nothing about the story. Surely spoiling the twist in Bionic Commando was attempting to do everyone a favour so they don't play that turd :shifty:

I agree with the general overview, good game, but kinda disappointing. Once you get to be king/queen it gets kinda boring.

Just looked at the DLC section of the 360 marketplace and there was a bunch of Fable III DLC ranging from new areas and quests to dyes and outfits. 5 minutes later they had all been taken down.
Guessing they went up too early and had to take them down. I still don't have my copy anyway.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest phoning the place you bought it from and seeing if they can fix it for you. If you pre ordered and it's anything like pre ordering instore in the UK, they should have your name, phone number and address so there's proof you pre ordered and are entitled to the DLC. Dunno if that'll help, it depends on the shop, I guess.
It was likely a mistake on the part of whoever served you.

- Combat is improved, but only slightly. This is more a nod to Fable 2's combat engine than a stab at Fable 3's. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Overall it's smoother and more responsive as far as multidirectional attacks are concerned (no-look attacks look cooler than ever). There's still a 'claymation' quality to the combat movements that, at this point, is pretty much Fable's 'thing'.
- Love the larger world areas. Should be fun traveling with a mate and taking on... wolves so far.
- Appreciate the streamlined magic system. While Fable 2's system was fairly straight forward, this simplifies it further and newbies should get into much quicker. The gauntlets are badass. Can't wait to mix them.
- The 'evolving' weapons gimmick is kinda cool, but I'm so far unconvinced that people will have different looking weapons. Right now my guns are effected by all the Hallowmen I killed. And I'm thinking, "People at this point killed just as much of these zombies," so I'm convinced a lot of people have bone handle guns. Perhaps this is something that will hit off after people go off on their own varied adventures. Named my sword the Triad Blade and the pistol, Death Dealer.
- My hero is a shirtless dude with bandit tattoos right now.

The GB crew spent a good amount of time on the podcast this week talking about how much fun they had with Fable II, and how much time they spent talking about it after it came out. Brad was ultra disappointed with the the late game, but didn't want to spoil it for anyone. They said the humor is still in full force and continues to be one of the highlights of the game.

I just got my LE in the post. Couple things to point out.
1. Text is unreadable, which sucks. I have an at least 30" tv. It's standard def and my 360 is set to "SD" and "widescreen". HD wouldn't make a difference as some people on the LH forum with HD are saying they can't read the text either. Hoping that get's fixed ASAP. It's doable because Rare did it with Banjo-Kazooie: N&B.
2. Notifications pop up in a weird place. Rather than being told someone has signed in at the bottom of the screen, it's at the middle right of the screen.
3. I've only seen one but cutscenes look like they are a bit blurry and like things leave trails. I only saw one so far so I'm not totally sure on that.
4. I don't think we get a villager code. Go to the villager make and it says something about having to sign in so it can assign the created NPC to your gamertag.
Quick question. When you start the game does it automatically choose a save file from Fable II? I never got prompted to pick which Fable II Hero I would be the child of.
RoXer
10-28-2010, 10:07 AM
My text is readable (on a fancy hdtv), I kind of know what you mean about cutscenes, haven't attempted villager maker, and the notifications pop up on the right so that they don't cover vital text on the top or bottom of the screen if you have subtitles on.
Funky Fly
10-28-2010, 10:11 AM
Text is easily readable on an HDTV. Cutscenes are definitely off-looking compared to gameplay. My village creator code was given to me by the clerk. You enter it at www.xbox.com/fable3 in the npc creator. Didn't ask me either. Doubt it matters too much about the Fable 2 save..

Came online to make a post about the game and just this second got my villager code in my email. So that's that sorted then.
I changed my 360 settings to "normal" tv instead of "widescreen" and everything is readable now, thankfully. Only problem is achievements and other pop-ups are huge but that's no big deal. I can play the game and that's all that matters, really.
The cutscenes aren't blurry either with the 360 set to normal tv instead of widescreen.
I'm liking the game so far. It's definitely moving a lot slower than Fable II did which isn't a bad thing. Anyone know how long it takes before you notice changes to your weapon? I'm guessing morphing takes longer than I thought.
All in all, I'm liking what I've played.
My Hero is currently wearing the Scottish outfit minus the hat. I want to dye it red and black and I have the red dye but black dye is future DLC. I'm not sure if it's in the game and just really rare but I know for a fact we can buy it as DLC. It was among the 6 or so DLC items but up too soon and removed again.
As for weapons etc. I'm carrying around a hammer (and using flourishes as much as I can) and a rifle but can't think of a name for them yet. Going to wait until they morph a little. My dog is a red setter called Storm.

I've come across a minor hitch. I can't dye clothes anymore because of a glitch.
When I now try to apply a dye, the game switches from the dye screen to the regular gameplay camera but with the list of dyeable clothing parts still listed and the X,A,Y buttons listed as "Dye". I can move around the room but everything has dissappeared. Jasper, clothing etc are all invisable.
I can use my magic and weapons in the room but I can't leave the room at all. So I have to exit to the dashboard and reload my game.
I've tried 2 different dyes on different parts of the same outfit and it keeps happening.
Drakul
10-30-2010, 01:48 AM
I can now dye clothing again but I've been hit by another, much more common, glitch. Mute Jasper.
He doesn't speak anymore at all. Even if you walk over to him and press A to interact and A again to have explain the room you're in.
LH have said they are working on a patch to fix all these glitches and have set up a webpage where you can report bugs and glitches you find. I'm hoping the patch is out really soon.
How long doe it usually take to get a patch out? Is it closer to day, weeks or months?

Depends on the size of the patch and how many bugs and glitches they have to fix.

So far the LH forum has had people, including me, mentioning Mute Jasper which is really common, my dye glitch, some people getting stuck in other sanctury rooms, some getting stuck in the map screen. Those are the ones I know of but I'm avoiding as many threads as I can to avoid spoilers so there could be a couple more.

That's actually why I've not taken part in multiplayer. I saw Kalyx running around but didn't invite him to my world or join his because some people said they were fine until they tried MP and then Jasper stopped talking.
Although some people claimed MP might actually fix Jasper. So I didn't want to risk glitching out anyone elses save.

How did she die? Did she just keel over and die or did someone kill her?
Kids never died in Fable II so this is new.

It's actually very possibly a glitch that weaves into the story arch picture perfectly. I can't go into details without some overall spoilers, but let's just say it seems she was a war casualty. I was seriously pissed, and my early kinghood was spent trying to see if she was out there. She's definitely gone, I have no family, and I'm taking it out on everyone.
Drakul
10-31-2010, 12:41 AM
If she just vanished, I'd guess it was a glitch. If you didn't see her die or get some kind of notification then it'd be a glitch.
It's a lot harder to form a relationship with anyone in this game so I'd imagine actually reaching marriage and having biological children would be a little more time consuming than in Fable II which is why you adopted, I guess. Not a bad thing but interaction was better when I could pick what I did with people. Now it just seems to basically boil down to random "good interaction" and "bad interaction". I don't want to introduce myself to a smelly male begger by ballroom dancing with him but that seems to be the one that comes up the most. I thought every new person you met would start with a hand shake and work from there.
Kalyx triaD
10-31-2010, 12:50 AM
Yeah the emotes are random picked and the process is dumbed down overall. Love the hand holding mechanic, used it to take my daughter for a stroll around town. Should have expanded the idea of touch beyond holding hands and 'interaction mode' hugging. Something like rough housing with a friend, again using the L trigger, and carrying on like that as you wish (I should be able to assign L Trigger actions from a radial menu).
It would seem they took the simplification thing too far, but at the same time introduced some cool mechanics. Looks like Fable 4 should try bringing it all together.

Co-op is silky smooth, btw. No complaints at all.
And I take back what I said about the evolving weapons. I didn't think they took actions like treasure hunting and interactions into account. Not only is that awesome, I'm sure it's a floodgate the dev team hasn't fully realized (because they still expect you buy other weapons). I feel a connection with my sword I simply never felt for any weapon in any game. It is my sword. And I like playing with my bro and seeing his hammer. It's very cool, but I feel like this concept is just the beginning. I would like some sort of wiki to fully examine all the details that can form from whatever habits.
Drakul
10-31-2010, 12:59 AM
I'm fine with the random interactions if they make sense. Dancing like they do in the game seems more fitting to do with a girlfriend or wife than as a way of saying "Hello, blacksmith I have never met before. How are you?"
I think the hand holding is cool but I've not used it much outside of quests yet. They could expand on it but the more you expand on a small feature the more it looks like a gimmick. Hugging could have been both triggers togethor. This would let you turn a hand hold into a hug and vice versa.
Co-Op is another thing I've still to try. I'm not getting much time to actually put the game through its paces for one reason or another.

I didn't know treasure hunting etc was taken into account for weapon morphs. I thought it was basically your alignment, your fighting style (flourishes or quick swipes) and what you killed that determined how things changed. That's cool that so much effects the weapon. I just hope drastic morphs keep happening after you have fully upgraded your weapon. I heard it only really changes 5 times.
I'm not sure how unique the weapons are because I saw one hammer that looked identicle to mine in a shop.
Give it time and someone will put up an FAQ about how to get any look you want for your weapons. I'd not be surprised if people figure out how to make the Master Sword or something. I can see a future DLC containing some kind of shop or Royal blacksmith that lets you actually select what your weapon looks like.
I agree with feeling the weapons are our own. I've used the same weapons since I began. I just wish I could think up a name for my hammer.
I want to name it something Scottish or Celtic as it's my "theme". I'm wearing a Scottish outfit with a Scottish/Irish dog. I have a beard and a war hammer. Thought it would be cool to play it with the Scottish theme because I'm Scottish, I imagined my Fable II guy was Scottish and this game is about rebelling against a tyranical English king. Plus the rebel flag appears to be just the Scottish flag coloured red, my favourite colour. So I thought it would make sense.
The AI seems determined to force you to use ranged attacks btw. After going through the game as primarily melee. The enemy AI no longer comes anywhere near me and is mostly made up of people with rifles, standing 3 miles away.

Hmm... It may be possible the enemies learn from your past battles. I use my gun more than anything and I swear I faced Hollowmen that dodged my bullets Matrix style when I shot at them. This didn't make them much more difficult, but it took me by surprise.
RoXer mentioned that the combat was laggy. I think he's not used to the pace of it all, as the combat is largely unchanged from Fable 2.
I would love for your blacksmith idea to get in, messing with details at will. Perhaps it should wait a bit, though. After people explore evolving their weapons more. Thinking about Fable 2's DLC (which was well done), exciting things can come for Fable 3 - but some technical patches should be in order as well. Increased enemy difficulty, adjusted interaction system and yeah, maybe faster attack responses to bring the combat more in line with the action games that inspired the team in the first place.

It would be interesting to have AI learning how you did your other battles but it seems a little strange to force a player to abandon their chosen play style and adopt another in a game about freedom of choice.
Playing as a melee character and doing a fetch quest for the preorder villager that requires you to get something near a bandit camp when the AI is all range attack is not pretty. I swear the enemies where never ending and that the larger enemy with the cigar kept showing up. I'd kill him but then two more would spawn from nowhere. I was near death so often that, in the end, I just had to grab whatever it was I had to grab and run.
Combat is fine, I think. I really like some of the new finishers. The hammer finishers can make you wince and others are just plain cool. Has anyone else had their Hero put an enemy in a sort of full nelson type move and break the enemies neck? I've had it happen about 3 times, now, at random. It's not a weird glitch because he lifts the arms, you hear the neck snap and everything.
I liked the Fable II combat so I'm glad it's not changed much.
I'm hoping a patch is out ASAP. 1 DLC area/quest is already complete but I'm guessing there will be more.
Edit: Think I've come up with names, finally. Lugh's Hammer (Celtic god of war) and Morrigan's Rifle (Celtic godess of war).
Also, found out Rhiannon is the Welsh goddess of birds, horses, enchantments, fertility and the underworld. Random.

Based on his questions I don't believe he's seen reviews and youtubes. He's asking questions of fairly old news. This thread covered them all. I think it would benefit him to look into it himself. He might end up not liking what you guys recommend, even if he gets it for 20$.
This is part of a bigger nag for me with general people and how they buy games, not a BDC thing. People aren't smart consumers. These games are expensive.

How am I a cow? If anything you are the sheep. You buy into the hype and buy everything day of (with your mom's money) no less. I rarely buy a game for more than $25, I always check reviews, get feed back from other people that have played, and don't buy into the hype. So my game library is small but solid, except for lego batman, I got that for free so I'm not really miffed that it sucks.

So? Lots of reviews are stupid so he's asking people he actually trusts the opinion of. I'd call it the very definition of an informed consumer, considering he hadn't made his mind up to buy it or not and was seeking information from a trusted source before he made that decision.

So is anyone still playing this? I've not seen anyone on my friend list playing it since maybe the start of the week.
I finished the main story a couple days ago. I liked it but now I have a ton of side quests left over to do and other stuff which I'll mention in my reply to FearedSanctity.
I'm curious about how other players did as king. What judgements you passed etc.
Oh, and there is reports of a "glitch" where your wife vanishes when you move into Bowerstone Castle. This isn't a glitch, in my opinion. I thought I had been hit with the "glitch" but it turned out my wife was in the kitchen. She is always in the kitchen.
With the castle being so big, I'm guessing people that claim to have this glitch just aren't coming across the kitchen because it is a little difficult to find at first.
I think that might be why you can't find your daughter, Kalyx, I'm betting you just can't find her because the castle is so big and she hasn't glitched/died. Check the back court yard or the area between your bedroom and throne room. I tend to find my daughter running around either of those areas.
What. The. Fuck....
I didn't actually think EVERYONE would die. Now I'm wandering around Albion with just a handful of guards. No shopkeepers, nothing. Pretty weak that you get punished this severely for being good.
Thought I had more time. But hey, when you jump from 121 days left to day of without warning, not much you can do
I saved a few people but now all the shops are closed, dead bodies are lying everywhere and the survivors all hate me.
It does seem that you can't win as King. If you are mostly good, everyone dies and survivors hate you.
If you are mostly bad, people survive but will probably hate you because of what you've done to the world with your decisions.
The only way I can think of is if you do as much good as you can as King of your world so everyone loves you and, at some point, join someones game, steal all the gold they have in their treasurey (seperate cameras in a big castle. They wouldn't know until it was too late.) and high tail it back to your own game. You screw over another player and his game, you likely get a negative gamertag review, maybe even a complaint filed or hate mail but you still win your own game.
I'm currently on my own personal quest to reinvigorate the land. I'm doing quests etc to get my popularity up so everyone stops hating me and I'm buying and renting out houses now to raise enough money to reopen the shops.
I'm guessing the game will magically spawn an NPC when I buy a shop or rent out houses so it's one way get everything moving again.

Trying not to read spoliers so i've only skimmed the pages, but whats the deal with money this time? The way i read it in a review was that you only collected rent etc while you were playing the game, not like Fable 2 where it collected it even when you werent on for a week.
That would make sense, so you can't abuse the shit out of it by setting your clock years in the future and make millions.
Funky Fly
12-13-2010, 04:48 PM
Yeah, only when you're playing the game, but quests give you plenty of cash, silver key chests give you tons of cash and you find 100 - 5000 gold just through digging, so it's not like you never make money.

Beat the game twice.
First time I had all the gold in my personal account, and forgot to move it back before doing the last judgments and final battle. So everyone was dead, and yet I still was bringing in gold. I didn't do to bad though. Found 20 books, 35 gnomes, all the Flowers, figured out Sunset House, and opened all the chest.
The second time, I decided to cheat and used my hubby's Hero to hold my gold, so I could start over will all the gold I would need, plus some. Managed to find 2 more books this time round. After I beat the game, I gave in and looked up where the other gnomes and books were. I can say I wouldn't have found all the books, but the gnomes would've just taken time.
Anyway, I'm thinking of playing one more time and being evil.
Oh...And I hated the ending battle. Another game with the ending just lame and too easy.

I love the technical and presentation upgrades (except for the limited emotes, still pissed about that) but it definitely has a weaker story. Would love Fable 2 with many of Fable 3's enhancements and features.
Hopefully it all comes together in Fable 4?

Hopefully but I wont be as excited for Fable IV unless it looks like something really special.
My problem with Fable III was part of the story and the inability to choose which action to perform to people but also the game just felt hollow to me.
Befriending NPCs or trying to start a relationship with an NPC just didn't feel any good and always required a quest.
Also the morphs were nonexsistant. I went through the game and got my strength to max and my goodness/purity to max and I looked near identicle to when I began the game. I didn't really look taller, broader, more angelic or anything. Any change is hard to notice.
I also think it was really bad design to jump from such a random number of days to 0 days in one go. If they were going to do that, they should have had an NPC, like the guy that tells you your schedule for the day, specifically tell us it was our last day before the attack for whatever reason.
Also the outcome seems fixed to always be bad without using the "buy every house and crank up the rent" method and even then, you get labeled as corrupted for charging so much. I don't care if I got angel wings at the end. My kingdom got slaughtered and everyone hates me, that's a bad ending. Although if I did what it takes to save everyone, I'm guessing they'll still hate me for charging them so much money, opening brothels and destroying the beauty of the world, still a bad ending because it ends with everyone hating me and considering me greedy and tyranical and hypocritical.
It's always bad, just a varying degree of bad, it seems.
