View Full Version : I Hate Batista

The Show Off
09-03-2009, 03:22 AM
I don't have a history on here, or in the real world, of hating anything. On the whole I try to find the best in everything. But I hate Batista.

Let me get this straight though, I don't hate Dave Batista the human being. I don't know Dave Batista the son, boyfriend, or human being, all I know and all I'm judging is Batista the wrestler, the entertainer, the and the performer.

...now what I just said is somewhat of a misnomer. You see because Batista isn't really a wrestler, he really isn't an entertainer, he's barley a superstar, and he's not exactly a performer.

Batista's in ring ability is about on par with what it was back in 2002... Well not exactly. He was better in 2002, holding the cauffer for Reverend D-Von is far better in-ring activity than anything he's done in the ring this year. He's consistantly been in the main even from January 2005 until right now. That's over four and a half years in the main event scene and in that period of time he's put on about 4, maybe 5 quality matches. And he seems perfectly content with that figure.

As far as being an "entertainer" is concerned he falls way short of the mark. His promos are... What's the word? Generic? Nah, Batista's promo's make generic promo look like a Mick Foley level promo of depth an neuance. Over the past seven years I've only ever been entertained by Batista much the same way I'm entrertained by watching a kid with downs syndrome trying to explain quantum physics.

I think the "performer" aspect is where I really have my problem, because "performer" implies some sort of effort, which to my knowledge Batista puts little to no effort into any aspect of his job. He wrestles almost the same exact way he did in 2002, and his promos are just as bland as they were when he was just some big guy that Ric Flair managed. Say what you will about John Cena but at least Cena has tried to become a better wrestler. And John Cena at least tries to be a poor mans Rock. Batista doesn't even put forth the effort to change or evolve or improve.

Where am I going with all of this?

Well, I'll tell you want I'm not doing....

I'm not boycotting the WWE.
I'm not wishing Batista ill.
I'm not demanding he turn heel.
I'm not saying this is anything more than an opinion.

What I'm just simply stating is that I've been a wrestling fan for over twenty years now. And I've seen some things. I've see David Arquette become a champion, I've seen necrophilia. I've seen Gene Snitsky. I've seen Vince Russo's booking. I've seen Ultimate Warrior promos. I've seen Scott Steiner promos. I've seen Hulk Hogan as Champion for an entire year where he wrestled only about a dozen times. I've seen some pretty questionable moves in wrestling, and some down right embarassing moments in wrestling, and I've always found a way to look on the bright side of it. And of all those things I never hated any of it.

But I hate Batista.

Greatest Batista moment ever

Anyways... Batista pretty much just rode the Evolution angle and HHH to the main event. Then he moved to Smackdown where he was like the only main event face for awhile and thus quickly became stale.

You guys forgot to add spear in his move list. I am not sure but Warlord happens to be one his favorite wrestlers. Plus recently when he use to be on the turnbuckle

I wouldn't classify Batista's "Spear" as a Spear.

It's looks more like a bungling tackle to be honest.

09-03-2009, 04:37 PM
I liked Dave until he literally stopped trying to wrestle. He hasn't really improved his game since he hit the main event (I know he's been injured, but still). It's like he found his formula and is sticking to it. This mindset is as rigid as his ring work.

I've always thought his mic work sucked. His promos should consist of him saying something along the lines of, "I'm going to kick your ass!" and that's it.

And I wouldn't hate the dance so much if he could at least get the timing right. Jesus, it's like it's the first time every time.

screech
09-03-2009, 04:39 PM
As for the Cena comparison,

Say what you will about John Cena but at least Cena has tried to become a better wrestler. And John Cena at least tries to be a poor mans Rock. Batista doesn't even put forth the effort to change or evolve or improve.

This pretty much sums up how I feel about that.

I find it weird to think that he's been in the main-event for the best part of 5 years now, yet I still sort of see him as 'new age', like I can't help but feel his prime is ahead of him and 'he's still new to it all'. Then I just think Austin, Rock and countless others who performed so many memorable matches/moments, had shorter times at the top than him.

HHH was the leader of the DX with Sean, Chyna, Billy and Road Dogg. DX Army is probably the most popular version of D-X. Their feud with The Nation was the best thing besides Austin-McMahon in 1998.

Nah you guys are crazy. Dave isn't my favorite wrestler by far, not close really. But he has had quite a few top notch matches with the likes of HHH, Benoit, Taker, Cena, and. Mysterio

He isn't a genius mat technician no doubt. What he is is a big powerful dude and he plays that up. Also he is super over with the fans, and no one can question that. I have to say big Dave surprised me by starting out wrestling so late in his career and still becoming a top player in the WWE. Only thing holding him back is injuries he keeps racking up, but besides that he does his job well.

Seven good matches of Batistas heh? I think I can do that easily enough. First off of course is his phenomenal match with Taker at Wrestlemania 23. It was definitely match of the night, and one of my favorites that year. Next I would go with the afore mentioned Bats vs HHH Hell in a Cell match for all the reasons mentioned. Also Taker and Bats Last Man Standing match at Backlash before their epic WM battle was also very good. Gets overshadowed a lot by their WM match. Then there is the Eddy vs Bats match which I recall being a really good match. Also Bats had a exceptional match with MVP on Smackdown during his time chasing Edge for the title. Also he had a couple good matches with Edge so pick anyone of those. Last I would go with Batista/Flair/Orton vs Rock/Foley from back in the evolution days for the win.

That wasn't so hard really. Still could name a couple more including some awesome bouts he had with Mysterio and some other Taker matches from 07. Batista isn't the hitman when it comes to in ring skills, but the man can go when he needs too.

Johnny McNasty
09-09-2009, 07:24 AM
Nah I wouldn't say so. With the build those two got going into WM, and the fact that if your match ends up stealing the show at Wrestlemania, a word like phenomenal makes sense I say.

Also Kami Taker might've of dictated the pace of the match like most veterans do, but it takes two to tango. I say Batista put in an effort equal to that of Takers in that match. You don't see 4-5 star matches from Taker with the likes of Khali do you?

Mr. Nerfect
09-09-2009, 11:16 AM
I loved it back in late 2004/2005 when he first started swelling up. He was just effortlessly cool in the way he'd cut promos, and the way he was never a big dummy, but a guy who was not stupid enough to let himself be manipulated by Evolution.

When he made the decision to Batista Bomb Triple H through the contract signing table, his future was set. The man was going to become the World Heavyweight Champion and the top gun on RAW, which is how it should have been. But what then became a question is what does Batista have going for him besides the storyline where he turns on Triple H and wins the World Title? Instead of addressing this potential limited quality Batista possessed, they shipped him off to SmackDown! and just tried to make him a big fish in a small pond.

He loses all the characteristics that made him intriguing -- his sense of style, his "I don't give a fuck" attitude, and just how effortlessly good he is. He become a Superman fighting for the same principles as guys like John Cena have. He is B-L-A-N-D. If Batista is to become interesting again, I think he needs to turn heel, become a bit of a bad-ass or, or just set himself apart from the other faces on the roster somehow.

There's the possibility he will be going to SmackDown! again, which is just a desperate way of clearing up RAW, getting a big name to SmackDown!, and refreshing Batista without ever doing much work -- but hopefully Michael Hayes can do more with this, and actually make Batista relevant again.

McNasty you named 7 matches and I have to give you rep... And say you were right. Now, I don't agree with your assessments on this, but good is subjective and you named 7 of them.

Batista/Taker (Wrestlemania 23):
Was good but not match of the night Cena/HBK was.

Batista/HHH (Hell in a Cell, Vengence 2005):
Was definitly a good match, good job picking that one.

Batista/Taker (Last Man Standing):
It was alright, definitly not on the level of the previously mentioned matches.

Batista/Eddie Guerrero (???):
You didn't name a specific match but I'll give you this based on the old theory of Eddie being able to wrestle pudding to a good match, so he must be able to put on a good match with Batista has only slightly less charisma than pudding.

Batista/MVP (Smackdown ???)
Once again not specific but still, I guess this counts.

Batista/Edge (Sevral Matches):
They had a cage match at One Night Stand 2007 I think so I'll just pretend you said that rather than be vague. That was a good match.

Evolution/Rock 'n' Sock (Wrestlemania 20):
At least this one is specific, and you're right this was a good match. Proving that Batista could be in a good match... That is as long as he has 4 better workers in the ring with him... If you're going to pick this match why not pick Royal Rumble 2005 as one of his best matches of Smackdown/Raw at Survivor Series 2005 as a great match of his?

I did like how the ECW fans shitted on Batista in the Hammerstein Ballroom. Word is that he cried afterwards. Also, Booker kicked his ass soon after for not respecting the veterans.

Big Show has been the best he has ever been when Paul Heyman was booking him. That dude knew how to use Big Show. I think he owes Heyman two of his five World Title reigns.

As for Batista -- I'd like to see them use him as a prototype to see how awesome a John Cena heel turn could be. Someone suggested that he and Rey Mysterio lose to Chris Jericho and Big Show, and then Batista gets frustrated and turns on Rey after the match. That would be fucking incredible.

Batista needs to get his slick back. The awesome suits, the "I don't give a fuck attitude" and the bad-ass ring presence that comes with being a dominant heel. CM Punk, Batista and possibly Kane could carry the heel side of things until Edge comes back to freshen up SmackDown! even more with a face run.

I don't believe he was outright carried in all of those matches by his opponents. I don't care how good you are, you can't carry someone to a four/five star encounter, without a substantial contribution from your opponent. Batista performed above and beyond in the matches I listed, showing that he is capable of having "good" matches. Saying he was carried in every match I list is a cop out as there is no way to prove it.

I remember reading a quote in I wanna say Ric Flair's book where he talks about one of his encounters with Lex Luger. Saying something along the lines of how Luger should get a ton of credit for that match, as Flair insisted that Luger called the match as he was the heel at the time. He then states how he feels they went on to have one of their best matches with Luger at the helm.

Also I'm gonna add the Tag Team title match from HIAC to my list of good Batista matches. Was probably my favorite match from the whole show.

Well, the obvious answer to this is...

Lex Luger > Batista

Actually...

Lex Luger > Batista X 10

Lex Luger wasn't THAT much better than Batista...well, a young Luger was. There never WAS a young Batista.

1988 Lex Luger was a great wrestler.

Their was never a single year that Batista was great.

He has one of the best theme songs of all time, and also one of the best entrances that I still enjoy watching. Once that bell rings though, I fast forward on my DVR. Though he is a much better wrestler now than he was in 2005 when he first won the world title (Which was embarrassing to watch), I still am not into watching his matches.

I disagree, I think he's gotten worse since 2005. He peaked at Vengeance 2005.

Don't know why you guys hate "THE ANIMAL" Batista. He's pretty agile in the ring, can cut a really good promo and has been in some of the greatest matches of all time. Can't take that away from the "THE ANIMAL".

The fact that he has a cheat code/Game Genie for unlimited title shots is why I hate him
