November 5, 2009 - Earlier today, Electronic Arts announced a PlayStation 3 exclusive multiplayer beta for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. The beta starts on November 19.

Normal folk will have to reserve the game at select retailers to receive beta keys, but IGN Insiders and GameSpy Founder's Club members can get keys starting on Tuesday, November 10.

Damn. Aint subscribing to shit just to get a key.

You get it for preordering at certain retailers as well. While I gave shit to publishers in the past for pulling this shit, I'll let this instance slide because it's a beta and not a demo. You are essentially dropping 5$ to help playtest the game, which is tad more noble on the user end. I don't have a PS3 but my buddy does, and I got him baptized in Battlefield with 1943 and he loves it - so I'll at least get to play if he preorders.

lol In the "5 games you gotta have" thread people had MW2 and L4D2 in there! Also, being that both game aren't out I can compare them on based on what I know/seen so far. And it looks like I'd have more fun in BC2 than MW2.

Historical trivia, I returned CoD4 for Battlefield 2 two years ago when I seen the game was a tad overrated.

After some time with the game, playing Gold Rush (now called Rush), I feel BC2 will live up to the series - but there's some hiccups I hope is just a 'demo thing'. As I said there's a sluggish/choppy feel to movement. It's enough to make me notice during playtime and it feels unpolished. Game's still playable, but it didn't seem as smooth as I know Battlefield could be. It was certainly less smooth than BC1.

The sluggishness rears it's head when you activate certain commands as well. Is it me or does it tale a second to register the respawn command? I feel like I have to press it twice. It's the same with B button commands, it takes a sec for the action to actually happen, be it entering vehicles or disarming bombs. You get used to the input lag but I rather not have to. Everything else is 'FPS responsive', the gun shoots when I want it to.

I like the slightly remapped controls, they're more natural and saves confusion (I still had issues cycling BC1 and 1943's weapons/items). The four classes seem well balanced, but I miss the shotgun for Engineers - perhaps it's an unlock. The defibrillator is so cool and nice to have back after so many years. I've bought my Squadmate back more than a few times and I felt like I was pulling my weight. The game will let you know who needs health on your team, you can be a superstar medic. There's a predator chopper drone that's league's easier to use than the regular chopper and great for recon, provided you can that one asshole to stop hogging it.

Modern Warfare 2, compared to this demo, comes off more polished and responsive. But the team-based objective nature still keeps me excited. To be honest, it was a lukewarm playtest, because everything I value Battlefield for seems to be done 10 fold on the recently released MAG - and I can't help but feel I should be all over that instead. But still, BC2 is good team based fun.

i havent really bothered with the atv or when i try to get in with another player they just drive off

I can't wait for the full game. Adding slight touches to your weapons will be cool, and their implementation of their own 'Perks' system looks a lot less exploitable. Want.

Yes. Its graphics are much better, everything in the enviroments can be destroyed, and there is so much more "cool" shit.

So I tried it. Feels more polished than the first one. Everything has more "weight" to it. But I don't know. Playing MAG and then playing this, everything feels deserted and barren. Feels weird. I'll probably stick with mag, and maybe pick this up later.

Been practicing with the chopper and managed some decent bombing runs. Even had a dedicated gunner and we slaughtered many an enemy. We landed for repair and went back to kill. It was great. Then I crashed it.

Just figured out how to request favors from the other classes, and even ask for a ride from vehicle users, but I think there's too much going on for someone to notice. Chatting with your squad will still be the ideal thing to do.

Glad parachutes are back. HALO jumps FTW.

Yeah I've heard virtually no voice chat in this at all (even though I don't use a headset myself, you can usually at least make out the sound of chatter).

On my last map as attackers, three guys were randomly chasing an enemy helicopter that wasn't even doing anything instead of pushing for the MCOM stations.

Although I love BC2 leagues ahead of MW2, I'll let IGN slide on this one. We shouldn't give so much weight to reviews and I learned to accept this after a stiff lecture pertaining to my YouTube vid on IGN's DBZ reviews. Giving reviews weight is fallacious enough, comparing reviews is worse, and offers far too much influence to the reviewer. So let IGN fap to MW2 all they want, we know what time it is. Also, humorous tutorial vids seem to be the rage these days, and BC2 has one that takes a number of stabs at it's competition - as well as offer some tips.

Yeah, the latest GameInformer gave it a 9.5 and said that it's pretty much as good as if not better than MW2 in almost every single aspect.

Yeah that's annoying, but you still have Squad Spawning which can come in handy regardless of your squadmate's stupidity. And you will have more chances to gain points with the squad-based bonuses.

Yeah my experience was smooth late evening yesterday so I guess it was fixed. Had a bunch of games with RoXy and Alva52 perfectly fine - though RoXer experience some weird auto-dashboard thing.

Some of the add-ons for weapons are 'priced' way too high. It's gonna be a whole lot of games before I get a scope on my guns, and they saved the cool shit for much later in rank. I still think Hardcore's point deduction for blunders should be in the real game to encourage responsibility - in fact, I'd extend it to getting a vehicle blown up out of combat and with no other passenger present and suicide from going out of bounds. Call me strict.

I just got of a 40min Squad DM game, no bullshit.

The damn game needs a time limit. My squad was facing two guys, and only two guys, who felt the need to hide the entire time. It was super annoying, and I wished there was time limit to count down. A game before that had us against a full squad, but they all just had to be Recon class, so the whole game was hide and seek. It wasn't even working for them, spotting shut that shit down - but the game still went way longer than it should because we're looking for them the whole time. For some reason we weren't getting games with the full 4x4 player action.

Meanwhile, I'm a fucking monster with the tank mines.

Super-Squads:

Being that the game supports party chat for all modes, and you can actually invite friends to games without having them join your squad - you can theoretically have a whole team of friends communicating via party chat (or at least a meta-squad bigger than 4 people). Even with no squad spawning, the communication may be worth the guide screen fumblings.

I love being on offense in rush and going behind our initial spawn to snipe the 4 or 5 defenders who may or may not advance. Esp if its a whole squad of it. That way I either spawn at our spawn or nehind it! I don't get mad running all the way down there only to die and then find out my entire squad hasn't moved and I have to run all they way down there again. I love it!

Snipers are a pain in the arse. I can live with a few people on each team sniping, but it sometimes gets ridiculous the amount of people just sitting looking through scopes rather than pressing on the objective.

I've always had much more fun getting into the thick of it.

And of course, they aren't spotting shit despite their 1337 vantage points.

A few times I had a team where every squad and player were on point, and those games are works of art.

I was playing as the attackers on Port Valdez last night and we lost on the first set of MCOM stations. Half the team was just sitting back sniping, leaving only 4 or 5 of us to actually try and get to the objectives. Needless to say, we didn't take them down.

Also, Laguna Presa is the shittiest map in gaming history. People already snipe too damn much as it is. When this map comes around either no one or 1 or 2 guys run around capturing flags, everyone else snipes. Running around and capturing the flags yourself wouldn't be too bad if it weren't for every damn flag being watched by 3 or 4 snipers at any given time.

How come deathmatch has to be in teams? FFA deathmatches are awesome. That's the only complaint I got so far. That, and I just randomly die because I get sniped every 30 seconds or so.

finally won a deathmatch. luckily was in a squad with some decent players who didn't sit back and snipe. got in a tank and dominated the entire match. kept dodging mortar strikes most of the time while machine gun guy took them out. also finally got my veteran status working. yay for acquiring 1943 guns i will never use.

Just had my best match online. Went 53 and 33 with 5610 points overall on the jungle map playing rush. Played as medic exclusively. Was rushing around throwing health packs down everywhere, and going from one side of the map to other reviving fallen comrades. Plus I was mowing down anyone who was foolish enough to get in my way. Planted three bombs that went on to destroy M com stations as well.

Feel like such a beast right now.

I got the special Shotgun upgrade that extends its range and I must say, it has AR range now. With the automatic shotgun you'll clear rooms easily. I use that in my Recon class because I can't snipe for shit.

Most people don't know how to use the sniper class effectively in these types of games.

I like to use a sniper class in MAG, and what I'll do is go with my squad, til we get close to an objective. Then I'll hang back and cover them, and counter snipe the people defending the objective. That's what a good sniper does. Not sit in the spawn point the whole game.
